Great food, very friendly staff, very dark in the restaurant. I like atmospheric dining but this was a bit too much.

A hidden gem in the centre of The Hague, world famous in the city itself but if you come from outside it is a real find. Very small but very atmospheric tent where the smell of the grill immediately greets you in a pleasant way when you enter. The menu is simple, but cheap. Very friendly service. Excellent seating. It is old, but atmospheric. We ordered the fruits de mer in advance. That is simply shrimp, salmon and imitation crab with some cocktail sauce and rocket. Simple, dated perhaps, but very fresh and effective in terms of taste. As a main course we shared the Balkan Grill with 3 people. The steak was a little dry but that did not detract from the fact that the taste of everything was perfect. Tender chicken, delicious skewers, a great piece of bacon, tasty rice and deliciously spiced potatoes. Truly a meal fit for a king. And what do you pay, including 2 drinks the nose? 55 euros p.p. Now that is what I call friendly prices. And if it also tastes like this... 10/10

The restaurant advertises itself as an "institution" in The Hague for decades – I believe it immediately. The food is plentiful and delicious; upon request, they added two complimentary sauces that perfected the whole experience. The owner is extremely friendly and approachable, and the prices are comparatively reasonable.

Delicious food for little money. Parking around the corner in the parking garage, 5 minutes walk. Booking in advance is a must, sometimes it is full months in advance for the holidays!

You have to look for this restaurant specifically and know where it is, I think it's difficult to find it just by walking through the city. But once you're there, you'll be rewarded with friendly service and good food, and you'll be happy to come back again.

If you are not from Balkans they will treat you like poorly better find more international place

I have to say, this was one of the best meals I’ve had in the Netherlands, especially after being pretty disappointed by Dutch food 😂. The portions here are super generous, and I really enjoyed every part of my meal. The meat was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and paired so well with the Balkan liqueurs 🥃. Seriously, the combination was amazing, and I’d 100% recommend trying it. The atmosphere was also really nice—cozy, welcoming, and just a great place to sit down and enjoy a proper meal. It felt like they actually care about the food they serve, which is something I really appreciate. Honestly, if there’s one reason I’d come back to Den Haag, it’s this restaurant. Big thanks to the restaurant for serving great food, good drinks, and making sure people leave full and happy. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town!

Two times I went all the way, both times did not manage to eat cause they said the grill was closed! It was a Friday evening around 21:00!!! Be sure to call before because the management is a bit amateuristic and according to clients they close or not.

Everything was fine, but my recommendation to prospective guests would be to order one of the meats instead of the sword of them as we did. One of the meats on the sword was lovely, but the rest were dry. Our eating partners ordered the surf and turf, and their meal was much better. Service was also slow but friendly. Those garlicy potatoes were a triumph.

Other food was very good but cevapcici was not good

It has an inconspicuously, unsuspecting location behind Primark, like a little "hole in the wall". The atmosphere is nice, it is very busy, there are tables everywhere, a small bar for the drinks and the kitchen is in viewing distance to watch. I had the prawns as a starter, 3 full, unshelled and meaty prawns. The beer is Balkan, hits the spot. Very nice. For the main, it was a 3 meat dish that came with lightly seasoned rice, a tomato based pasta and a generous portion of baby roasted (or fried) potatoes...and garlic sauce on your side veg. Everything was dipped in it, the potatoes went so well with it. There was 2 pots of sauce to add to it if you wanted. The meat was beautifully cooked, everything seasoned just right. Well priced and worth every euro. I left fat and happy. Please, worth visiting. The staff were lovely and accommodating as I was a walk in.

We had a nice meal and something was also done for the birthday boy, which was very nice But it was cold inside. I also completed the last part with my jacket on. I will definitely come back for the food But now in the summer, when the perceived temperatures are a bit higher.

Ćevap as it’s finest Being a true ćevap lover I traveled all Balkan countries to find which one is the best and I realized that best doesn’t exist, there are different preparations of it. Here, at Balkan Grill they made very high quality ćevap, one of the best ones I have ever had. The restaurant has its own, charming atmosphere, people there are very friendly and welcoming, food is excellent, what can you wish more? Hope

Balkan Grill has been a phenomenon in The Hague for many years. Generous portions, delicious taste at an affordable price. The tournedos is of super quality. Without a reservation you have to be a bit lucky, but it is definitely worth going for a meal.

This is not the first time we have visited. A wonderful restaurant. Violetta always greets you with her wonderful smile and pleasant service. Among the drinks, I think everyone will choose slivovich-Balkan vodka (moonshine) and kruškovac (liqueur). Everything is very tasty and fast. I recommend it to anyone who loves grilled food.

At the barbecue restaurant in The Hague, the long baguettes are very delicious, with crispy skin and soft inside. The mix grill for 2 people is very large and comes with vegetables, fried rice, pasta and baked potatoes. Two people can't finish it.

First time trying Balkan dish. Selected Romanov's for 2. Meal was great. Could have fed 3. Mixed grill of filet,pork and veal. Potatoes, rice, bowtie pasta, green beans, cucumbers and tomatoes accompanied the meats. Two sauces also accompanied the meal. Sauces were not spicy, nor A1 style. Server / Violetta provided very good service and spoke very good English. I enjoyed the feel of the restaurant

Highly recommended for meat lovers. The Fatanyeros is a celebration. The decor is Balkanist, you just have to look through it. Toilet should really be renovated (or even look through it, because Balkan). But if you want good food, then you just have to go here.

This a long time favorite for a lot of people in The Hague. I must have walked by this restaurant a 100 times or more. Until now: lets see if the proof is in the pudding. First of all, this is a meat restaurant. I have to say, the interior looks acient. It's dark, almost cave-like. But you dont eat the interior. Place opens at 17.00 and guests are pouring in, good sign. I get a table right away altough I had no reservation. I decide to take it easy and have a cola zero. This comes fast. The charcoal grill, it's signature mark already smells great. Now for the menu. I know what a sirloin steak is, I want something special. So I choose the fancy "Balkan Spies" a "Gypsy skewer" with chunks of beef sirloin with pieces of bell pepper and onion. The waitress is very Dutch but fast and friendly. My main course arrives before I know it. It's one plate, on it some tomato rice, farfale pasta in sauce, pan fried pommes parisienne and that meat skewer, wich looks mouthwatering good. There's also some butterhead salade on my plate, garnished with 2 slices of cucumber, equal ammount of tomato, and a spoonfull of...canned green beans with a dollop of ready made garlic sauce! Take me back to the 70's!!! It's hilarious. But: that meat skewer, pieces of sirloin steak prepared medium rare on charcoal, that's what this place is about. And it's good, very good. Two warm sauces served with this, Stroganoff and paprika, both home made fresh and delicious. Farfalle pasta is decent. The long grain rice is not my favorite but tastes okay. The pommes parisienes are delicious, i love these pan fried potatoes. I have a draft beer with this all. I finish my diner except for some rice and that salade. I ask for the bill, comes fast and sets me back 30 euro. I leave 35 because the overall experience was good. I will visit this place again! If you like this review please hit the like button!

The food was soo good and excellent the potatoes were🥵 and it was my birthday and I asked the woman if they had any birthday cakes she said no and at the end they surprised me with a cake it was soo nice of them we couldn’t even finish everything.

Went back to Balkan grill after many years and nothing had changed, still the same layout and the food is fantastic.

If you want to experience the Balkan atmosphere, you should go here. It's just as dark and loud as always everywhere on the Balkans (except tourist spots), but here you don't care if you're a tourist, here you get to experience the Balkans for real. Here you will be full for the next two days. Grilled and fried so it splatters. Skopska salad is a must. Nothing special or remarkable. Simple and cheap. The place is in a dark alley, as dark outside as inside.

Geen restaurant voor vegetariërs. In een achterafsteegje in hartje Den Haag zit de geweldige Balkan Grill. In een interieur dat al zo te zien al 40 jaar een tikkeltje oubollig oogt, worden de heerlijkste grillgerechten geserveerd. Vlees met rijst. En pasta. En gebakken aardappels. En salade. En saus. De ideale bodem voor een avond stappen, of om te vieren dat je 20 jaar samen bent. De hele keuken ís de afzuigkap voor de houtskoolgrill, de bediening is hartelijk, de porties zijn gul en de prijzen zijn schappelijk. Als je van gegrild vlees houdt dan is dit een absolute aanrader (mits je even door het decor heenkijkt). Wij waren hier ruim 15 jaar niet geweest, maar er was niks veranderd en het was net zo lekker als vroegah.

TOP gegeten hier en paar jaar terug ook regelmatig wat afgehaald, echt kwaliteit en goed voor een redelijke prijs. Personeel vriendelijk en netjes.

Super tent, ik kom hier al 40 jaar, Mijn vader nam mijn 40 jaar geleden mee, en ik heb mijn dochter ook weer op haar beurt meegenomen, dus 3 generaties. ook van de Balkangril gaan 3 generaties mee. echt een super vlees Gril restaurant, alles van 100% vers topkwaliteit. als je er 1 keer voor het eerst gaat eten .zal je het echt ervaren en er terug blijven komen .

Hier avond gegeten met twee. Lekker verborgen plekje, binnen ontzettend klein maar knus. In ieder geval precies wat ik had verwacht van een Balkan restaurant!

Gisteravond kwamen we zonder te reserveren langs.. Eigelijk waren ze helemaal vol geboekt maar we mochten toch gaan zitten en hebben een heerlijk gerecht voor 2 gegeten. Wat een aardige mensen. Zo gezellig.

Geweldig ! Deze winkel bestaat al duizend jaar ( lijkt wel, in ieder geval sinds 1970 ) op hetzelfde adres, er is in die tijd weinig aan verandert maar dat maakt het niet slechter… Blij dat we hier eens zijn gaan eten ( met gezelschap wat hier ook in de 70er jaren kwam eten ) want het is de moeite waard… Serieus lekker eten, voldoende porties, super smaakvol ! Vegans én vegetariërs hebben hier niet zo veel te zoeken maar voor een lekker vleesje ben je hier aan het goede adres. Vriendelijk personeel ( en ook lekkere aardappeltjes als ‘bijlage’ ), het is alleen een beetje fris ( maar niet anders gewend in Balkan landen ) dus dat mag wel een graadje hoger. De zaak zit vrij vol dus ga er maar vanuit dat we niet de enige lekkerbekken zijn ! Maar we komen zeker terug en niet pas over vijftig jaar !
