We had a delicious lunch. Great atmosphere, and the ladies work so hard! They paid close attention to detail, as our wobbly table was expertly put back on its feet. We'll definitely be back!

What a fantastic spot! I come here often even though I don't live in the city. It's right next to Carré, which is also a nice combination. But you can also walk straight into the city center. Walking along the Amstel is always fun. The service is pleasant, friendly, quick with drinks, and accurate. In the summer, there's an outdoor terrace with a beautiful view of the bridge and the Amstel. I recently asked for a table in the quieter section, and they accommodated me. The advantage is that it's busier and has a better atmosphere, but for a good conversation, I prefer the back. The menu is small, but it does have a changing daily special. The quality is good. Make sure to book in advance for lunch or dinner if you don't want to miss out!

We love this restaurant for our theater nights. We've eaten there several times now and always enjoyed the delicious dishes and the welcoming atmosphere. The price-quality ratio is perfect, making it a great start to the evening every time.

Cozy cafe with friendly staff, but you should only eat chicken satay here. We ordered North Sea sole and, to our surprise, received two overcooked sole for the price of a North Sea sole. Too bad.

Great café on the Amstel River with friendly, efficient staff. It's also a nice spot for a cup of coffee in the sun on the terrace or a drink at the bar in the evening!

Gave it three chances; twice with reservations, once without on Mondays; and even then it was full. The owner was grumpy during service, we had to wait a long time, and we received very little of what we ordered, especially cheap fries. Also, really poor value for money (26 euros for a satay?!) I get the feeling that the only reason this place is always full with reservations is because it's next to the Carré theater, and the price is because it's located on the Magere Brug. Furthermore, it's an overpriced, average cafe for the local Amsterdammer looking for a quick bite on a cold Monday evening.

A small, busy place where the staff did their best but still delivered the wrong drinks a few times. Unfortunately, we also had cold yakitori skewers as a starter, after which the main course arrived very quickly. The ribeye wasn't cooked perfectly, but the chicken satay was very good. Dessert was a disappointment; it was the worst crème brûlée I've had in the Netherlands. It was too thin and lumpy.

€25 for a satay is way too expensive for me. So is €12 for an Italian coffee. We shared a starter, four beers, two satays, two desserts, and two Italian coffees, and we paid €129. And that at a small table, within elbow distance of the neighbors. Such a shame.

This place has a charm factor you can’t ignore. We stopped in while killing time before our AirBNB was ready as we couldn't resist the patio. The inside had that cozy, almost storybook vibe where you could imagine spending hours with friends over drinks and bites. Service? Spot on Menu? Tempting Food? Delicious My only hang-up was that the price vs. portion math didn’t quite compute. Quality was high, but the plate felt a little too… minimalist for what my wallet contributed. Final tally: a solid 3 stars from me, dragged down by the price tag alone. Otherwise, 5's all across for food, service and atmosphere.

We had a truly delicious meal! The wine was also excellent. We had indicated that we needed to be at the theater on time, even on the same evening, and that wouldn't be a problem. The starter arrived quickly, but unfortunately, the main course took a while, so we still had to rush and didn't have time for coffee. Luckily, Carre is a two-minute walk away, so we made it in time. And the delicious food was definitely worth it!

The menu is outdated. A latte now costs €5. It's outright theft. And a cup of mint tea costs €4.50. Ridiculous! If only the service and coffee were excellent, but no. A complete disgrace.

We had reservations for tonight at Eetcafe De Magere Brug, a place we often go for a meal. It was incredibly busy, as we could see, but despite that, the staff were incredibly enthusiastic. Tables around us had to wait a bit, but we heard they were compensated, which was very polite. Excellent service as always. We'll be back next time!

After the Pieremachocheltocht (pieramachochel tour) during SAIL 2025, we were ready for a beer and a glass of wine. We found a table near the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge) at the café named after the bridge. After about twenty or twenty-five minutes, we were spotted by a young man who acted like a waiter, but seemed oblivious to the flow of customers on the terrace. Random service reigned supreme. But finally, we managed to order a rosé, a pint of beer (for a ridiculous price), and a bitterballen garnish (six bitterballen for €8.25)!!! Next to us sat a woman who had been there longer, and her order was taken at the same time as ours: a cup of coffee. After we finally received our order, she still hadn't received anything. As a result, she left the terrace; understandably, she was done with it. Finally, after a while, her coffee arrived, but by then she was already home (I think). In short: not exactly recommended when it's busy and there are young people working there who don't seem to care about the patio service. Positive? The excellent bitterballen! We ordered a second portion, but we never saw it. It was on the bill, but we didn't pay for it.

Yesterday we sat here for a while on the terrace before going to a Carré show. I think quite a few Carré visitors stop by before or after a show :). Beautiful view of the bridge. Unfortunately, they were out of apple pie, but the cheesecake was also delicious. The staff was super friendly.

It was indeed quite busy – and that's a good sign! We waited for our food together, which isn't a problem when you're sitting with beautiful people. The atmosphere was great, and it was very convivial. For those who complain: don't whine, just enjoy the lovely ambiance, the delicious food, and the beautiful people around you. Extra recommendation: try the alcohol-free Vrijwit – it's truly fantastic. We'll definitely be back next time!

We went at the wrong time; for us, it was after a show at Carré, and for them, right after Pride on Saturday, so the staff had been busy and were a bit tired and done with it. But the food was good, and despite the minor errors (which they noticed and promptly resolved), the staff were helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere was good. So, highly recommended, and a great combination with Carré.

We went to eat here because we had to go to the adjacent Carré. We had made a reservation well in advance and we were served fairly quickly for drinks. We still had to look at food. When ordering drinks we indicated that we had to go to the theater. According to the staff, this applied to everyone who was present at that time and was therefore not a problem at all. Then it took a long time before we got someone at our table to order again. In the end we asked ourselves, because (we stated again) we have to go to the theater. We ordered 3 courses at once, because this would speed up the pace (or so we thought). Luckily the starter came quite quickly and although it wasn't quite what we expected, it was fine. Then our main course didn't arrive. In the meantime I saw someone from the kitchen staff go outside (it looked like a smoke break) and we waited for the food. After waiting another 20 minutes, we decided to cancel the dessert. But at that moment someone came to us and announced that our dessert would be arriving shortly. We noticed with surprise that the main course had not yet arrived. We indicated that we already wanted to cancel the dessert. Then someone came with a bill for just our two drinks and an apology. Apart from this whole story, I would certainly not recommend the cafe. Staff busy with each other, trousers desperately held in place with a belt halfway up the thighs (read: you're looking at underpants) and tears in someone else's trousers in places that left nothing to the imagination.

Food was tasty, atmosphere was cozy. However, the chicken was a bit too tender, as if it had not been fully cooked. We also had to pay for the fries that were clearly listed with a dish on the menu.

Recently ate in a packed cafe on a Sunday evening after an afternoon performance in Carré. Very friendly and quick help from a certain Esther. The food was delicious; nice, simple card. You may be a bit cramped, but the atmosphere is good and the location is fantastic. Just like a year ago, great!

Sometimes there are little gems that you haven't discovered yet, Eetcafe de Mager Brug is one of them. Reserved for the theatre concert of Paul Carrack. Searched for a restaurant near Carre, so ended up at Eetcafe de Magere Brug. When entering it immediately felt familiar, a nice welcome, and a sweet message on the reserved table. It is a restaurant actually divided into various blocks, which really creates the atmosphere. Staff super friendly and humorous, the dishes we had ordered were of excellent quality and everything arrived wonderfully warm and quite quickly. If you haven't been here yet, I recommend you to go and eat here sometime. In the summer you can also sit outside and enjoy the beautiful Amstel river and of course enjoy the real Magere Brug. Without a doubt, the Magere Brug is highly recommended.

A bit messy-chaotic atmosphere, just had a drink.

I was there couple of months ago in winter. I always go there and send my customer there. But this time was different. It was in the morning and they were preparing to open. So it was very cold outside and I knocked the door to ask if it was possible to enter in and my fingers were dead frozen. There was a white waitress there I ask whT time will they open she said to me in 15 mins which was OK for me to wait and have my hot chocolate as usual. 15 mins passed still not open . I knocked again to know if now I could get in but still being denied . She said again 15 more mins. Now I asked if by the meantime I could stay in because it's very cold the girl was confused and asked a lady which is black nothing against color I'm myself I'm black she came up really rude attitude I said it was supposed to be open 30 mins ago and it's 45 mins passed still nothing. She said that they were still preparing the place and that I don't make her salary there. I was really passed off and cold . I don't know is she was the owner or not and that other girl no sympathy at all. I wouldn't recommend this place of you don't see the true side of the staff there. Really bad mentality. I will spread the workday to make sure you always get bad comments unfortunately speaking from my experience.

Made a reservation yesterday to eat at the De Blauwebrug cafe. Upon arrival at 5.45 pm we reported that we had to leave at 7.30 pm for a performance in Carre. They were unable to arrange a main course before 7 p.m. so that it could be eaten in peace, with reference to the fact that we had taken a starter. 2 waitresses made the statement for another 5 minutes, and 3 minutes later for another 8 minutes. It's a bit strange that if you indicate the time you have to leave, nothing happens. All in all a bad event. The starter was fine by the way.

Nice cafe. No fuss, just sit comfortably, eat/drink well and enjoy. In our case, we had something to eat before we went to Carré. After ordering it sometimes takes a little longer before the food is on the table, but the wait is more than worth it. Quality of food is really good. Friendly staff in a cozy tent. And, when the weather is nice, it's always great!

What a nice and cozy place this is to have a delicious meal!!! Cozy and attractive restaurant at the foot of the Skinny Bridge. A nice end to a beautiful evening. Oh and the Espresso Martini is highly recommended! I will definitely come back here again!

1 star less due to the very long wait between starter and main course. Booked well in advance and even arrived fifteen minutes earlier. A portion of fries was forgotten with the main course, which came later when we had almost finished eating. Then we had to wait so long again until someone came to order a dessert. Unfortunately he didn't get that because it was too late due to a performance in carre. One employee was attentive and proactive and paid attention to us, while another employee was not. This happens if you serve the same table with 2 employees. Then they don't know each other, etc. Especially after it became busier. The food was delicious, the surroundings were cozy and close to the square. Just fix the lock on the toilet door. That would be nice with so many people going to the toilet.

Poor price/quality ratio. Despite top location. Ginger tea at 4.50 lukewarm, which was tasteless because it had not been steeped; The coffee is just barely warm, so drink it quickly. Tomato-vegetable soup at 9.75 no better than that of Unox. Served plain with a slice of (crusty) bread. Service smooth and friendly. The 2 of us were very busy. Seems like a pretty overrated eatery considering the amount of reservations they had. I don't understand why. Better to continue/walk back towards Waterlooplein.

Disappointing experience. Messy entrance, ordered a menu, after a long wait/inquiry the main course came before the starter, the waitress thought it was our fault and indicated somewhat threateningly that if we wanted the soup first the main course would take a long time. Ordered a glass of white wine while waiting but it did not arrive, but after a reminder it was delivered. After waiting again for the main course, it was not clear to the service that there was also a dessert included. Had to ask for the bill twice. The friendly male colleague at the counter apparently realized the situation and deducted an appetizer from the bill. But that turned out to be a cigar from their own box, after departure the glass of white wine that they had obtained with difficulty turned out to be double on the bill. "Our mistake", we should have checked the bill carefully...

Notice that the love has disappeared a bit from this café. A simple vase costs four euros, if you want a Duvel you pay seven euros, a simple white wine also costs seven euros & it is not surprising that no local resident can be found in the café on a Friday evening. Strangely enough, there is also a bottle of Glassex on the bar all evening. Bartender hasn't laughed once in 1.5 hours.

What a lovely place with lovely service and rustic Dutch-Italian menu and what a location looking onto the Magere Brug. We felt welcome. Atmosphere and decor was authentic. Online reservation was effortless. The Dutch ‘Uitsmijter’ was exquisite. The place is not huge so don’t tell anyone, just try it

My experience does not match the good reviews given here. Very outdated interior with a dingy menu of which some dishes were not available. Ordered burrata salad as a lunch dish. It contained a lot of lettuce and many croutons but little tomato. The whole thing was sprinkled with grated parmesan cheese from a packet. Definitely not worth 20 euros! Too bad, we won't be coming back here again.
