Food was fine. The room is dirty. The bathrooms were gross.

It was fab, we took my family for lunch and the 3 of us got the veal croquettes: 1 with bread, 1 with fries and me, 1 one without anything but the croquettes. And a Cesar salad for 4th person. Yummy it was!! Nice chardies, too!! Service lovely and fast, lovely food and great ambiance!! What more would one need to enjoy a great lunch with my family in Amsterdam???

Good atmosphere and delicious coffee

Overall, the dishes were tasty and filling, but the staff were quite rude. We waited a long time because one of our orders was served to another table. The tip was deducted as 10% without being asked.

Two days ago, we went there for the first time. The waitress was rude and unfriendly. When she brought me my Coke, she threw the bottle on the table and made an annoyed face. It completely ruined the atmosphere for us. We simply left and we definitely won’t be coming back.

The food is just so-so overall; you definitely won't be surprised by how delicious it is. There is no air conditioning, so it is extremely hot. The building is old, and the tables and lights are also old, so it is a bit... not great. However, the staff are hardworking. I probably won't go again.

The food was fine, but nothing special. Service: from arrival to departure, not a smile or genuine friendliness. At the table, no one asked if everything was to our liking between courses or if we wanted another drink. I eventually had to clear the table myself twice to signal the next course and get our attention. No lemon wipes or bowl of water with the prawns (I received blue napkins in a glass that stuck to everything, so I rushed to the toilet to get those blue bits of paper off my hands). Wanted to pay, but no one was in sight. Plates etc. were still on the table after a long wait; I walked to the bar to ask if I could pay. There, too, no one asked if everything was to our liking. For the first time in 30 years, I didn't leave a tip (and I work in the hospitality industry myself for quite a few years, so it felt very strange to me not to give a tip). Tip for the waitstaff: do not gossip about colleagues and management in front of guests; that is not what guests are there for. Spend that time instead on your guests and the service the company wants to project, and have these kinds of conversations during your break or talk it out with your colleagues/manager; we aren't in high school anymore.

The onion soup was greasy and sour; the waiter didn't even bother to ask when he took the whole thing away, but he certainly charged me for it. It used to be an Amsterdam classic years ago, and now it's become absolute garbage... what a shame.

The best avocado toast I ate in so long, if you add 2 eggs you will have the craziest breakfast/brunch ever, it was really clean food and fresh veggies! Came 2 times

Absolutely terrible. The only thing worse than the food was the service. We ordered four items, after a while we were informed that three of the items were no longer available, but I could not cancel the fourth one because they said it was already done. It was a Caesar salad, which was basically a half a pound of bacon, three pieces of lettuce, and a bucket of sauce. Waited for a long period of time to try to find someone to get me a bill. Finally, I went into the building and found someone to give it to me who seemed quite annoyed that I was bothering them to pay my bill.

Nice café on the Spui. Great food, good place to meet up. Nice and quiet during the day on weekdays. Lively and busy on weekends! Sometimes the service was a bit slow due to the crowds, but overall great!

We spent 75 Euros on ridiculous junk food with my wife and child and left hungry. Eating here is like throwing your money away. Get a hamburger and fries from Febo, I'm sure it will be better than here.

Sitting on the terrace for a nice while late Friday afternoon. There was a table free. After ten minutes, the table next to us also became available. 5 minutes later, the waiter came to tell us we had to move. There was a reservation, you see. Everything was full, so we wanted to stay seated. The server became increasingly rude, and eventually, the manager came over. This young man told us that the tables were reserved. The word 'reserved' was written on one of the tables. The way he did it made us feel like we were trash. The manager indicated that there were plenty of other terraces. Eventually, another spot became available, and the manager had indicated that we were not being served. Finally, the manager came to take our order. We could have escalated it further, but we just didn't. The staff is rude, refuses to talk back, and is supported in this by the young manager. The end of the story is that the spot where we weren't allowed to sit remained unoccupied when we left. A reservation and no apologies. I am never coming here again.

Once a household name, now a tourist trap. What a run-down place. The staff look terrible and talk about their partying on the weed boat (I was there with my granddaughter). I had mussels that were so small and overcooked that I didn't pay for them. Kitchen response: this was the best stock. Please, the average fishmonger has better stuff. My granddaughter had a so-called grilled steak (both coincidentally the most expensive dishes, actually ridiculously expensive). That steak was prepared so lovelessly and grey around the edges. That one should have been sent back too, but she had already eaten from the middle. Factory-made baguette, and with the mussels, orange Calve sauce, straight from the bottle, sickly sweet. The sweet waitress couldn't open the bottle of wine because of an old and rusty corkscrew. Well, that is indicative of the whole place. Close the place down! Keep your money in your pocket, and walk on to Boouillon on the Nieuwe Zijdsvoorburgwal.

Today I was extremely disappointed! We ordered our usual dish: croque madam. Besides the fact that the salad seems to be shrinking every time we come, I was most disappointed by the croque itself! I asked the waiter what happened and he told me that they started making their own bechamel sauce. PLEASE STOP DOING THAT! It looked unattractive, grey and puke like and it tasted like nothing at all! What happened to the rich lovely Gruyère taste? GONE! Great that your kitchen staff makes your dishes with fresh ingredients, but please taste them before you actually change them because this really only worsened and ruined the dish. I’ll come back, but no longer for our beloved croque madam (RIP). W

visited april 7, 2026. i was reading some good things about the croquette here so i went on my first day on my amsterdam visit. and god it was really good. the filling was so smooth and tasty,i havent had anything like it the black guy staff that served me was kinda sassy. i loved it, it was lowkey funny

We found this to be a great spot for lunch. Good drink and food options in a causal but interesting environment. Suitable for all sorts of occasions and well priced for its location. We would return.

The hot chocolate was incredible — rich, indulgent, and topped with the most generous whipped cream — and the apple pie was just as good. Proper comfort done right. Your carpaccio sandwich is truly the most delicious carpaccio sandwich EVER! It's like an angel peeing on my tongue! Delicious!! I've been to Cafe Luxembourg over 10 times now just for the carpaccio sandwich. Everything about it is just perfect. I almost cry when I think about this sandwich. I've rarely tasted anything so delicious in my life. I hope you never take this carpaccio sandwich off the menu, or my life will have no meaning anymore.

We ate before a lecture at the Lutheran church on Thursday evening, January 22, 2026; after a 35-minute wait, the food arrived. When we asked why it was taking so long, we were told it was very busy, but that didn't show. They also said the Melanzane we ordered still needed to finish cooking in the oven. Neither my girlfriend nor I ate Melanzane, with large chunks of eggplant still raw, hard, and disgustingly covered in a flavorless sludge. The young man serving us apologized, but that was it.

The restaurant is very well located and has a pleasant atmosphere. However, we received very little on our plates for the high price. A burger at €18.50 without fries is quite light for lunch 🫤. On the other hand, the fish and chips was decent.

I was hungry and wanted a cream croquette, so I searched on Google Maps and found this place. The photo shows the 12-course classic lunch set (15€). It consists of two sandwiches, tomato soup, Holtkamp veal croquette, and ham. Everything was delicious, especially the tomato soup, ham, and bread. The staff were all very friendly. It seems to be a popular restaurant, as it was very busy even before lunchtime.

I went with three other people, the service was great, the food was good, and the interior is very quiet, perfect for conversation. There was no wait because the table was reserved on the café's website.

I recommend eating the Biterballen (traditional Dutch croquettes) with a beer on the sidewalk. Guillermo is a genius and a sweetheart. He took excellent care of us! A must-see in Amsterdam.

The flat white we had was really good. The service leaves much to be desired though. For example after taking the coffee order the waiter quickly left yet we wanted to order water with our coffees too. He just darted away. Otherwise great place.

We go to this cafe every time we are in Amsterdam. People have good service, they have a lot in the menu. Prices are good. You have wifi and clean bathrooms. FYI,I think food stops being served at 4 pm and after that is only drinks.

Nice sitting in a nice place in Amsterdam. Outside on the terrace is the full menu. For lunch you can't choose everything from this menu. Which is a shame, because this is a bit misleading. For the rest it is value for money.

A nice location with average food and service. Cafe Luxembourg is situated near a small square, a crossroads of trams, bikers and walkers, so it’s a nice place to relax and people watch. I loved the Tripel Karmaliet beer which was very good, the food overall was average. We had to wait a long time for our bill and then chase someone one down to pay and leave.

Late lunch Friday. Had coffee and a sandwich. Paid €13 for a sandwich with tuna melt, although it was good. About 15-25 years ago my friend & I came here quite often. After that not so much, last year again every now and then. Unfortunately it is rarely really clean. To read the newspaper I always moved the menu on the table. Almost didn't work: stuck... Wash basins (ladies') toilet: soaking wet and didn't look clean. Overflowing paper bin. It used to be extremely dusty in the conservatory. Too bad. Basically a nice place.

Spacious space with a terrace. Attentive service and fast food. The Croque Madame is superb. The carpaccio sandwich is a bit bland, lacking much flavor.

2025/5 They have terrace seating and the interior is nice. They serve coffee first. I tried the croquettes. Melted cheese and ham sandwiched between thick slices of bread. I don't think they're that expensive. They're open from early morning until late at night.

There were 2 people working the service. They were friendly, courteous and worked quickly. But the food is disappointing. Schnitzel wasn't crispy, it was like boiled. The fries were cold. Burger bun was stale. The wine was nice. There was no soap in the toilet and it was messy. Expensive for these meals.🤑

Didn't eat well. I ordered a chicken sandwich with avocado spread. The chicken was undercooked and it didn't taste like anything. Neatly indicated at the service, but you still have to pay. The lady at the table next to me had the same problem with her sandwich. I'll never come here again.
