Café Zurich in Hoofdweg e.o.

Located on Mercator Square in the heart of an Amsterdam residential area, the restaurant is housed in a (large) pavilion. However, most guests were served in the outdoor area on the square. There was a wide selection of very good beers, including non-alcoholic options. The food was good, and the service was attentive.

I always enjoyed coming here, but since Yiyi stopped working here, you unfortunately really notice that the service has declined. She always brought so much cheerfulness, was genuinely involved with customers, and often knew our order by heart. That personal and warm contact is what made this place so nice to keep coming back to. It really shows how much difference one good employee can make. It is a real shame that the atmosphere feels different now.

Overcharged us and didn't give us back the change. Extremely scammy.

This used to be a great place. They no longer serve pizza and the food that they serve is mediocre and very expensive. €22 for a Melanzane which is half an eggplant, a quarter of a tomato and a pepper… Really went downhill. It wasn’t even busy and it took nearly an hour for a pasta and melanzane to arrive. We had to ask multiple times whether the food was coming or not. Then some fries were also forgotten by the kitchen and arrived after we already finished. Waitresses are friendly, but the place is not what it used to be.

So not authentic Italian. The place is really cool. Waitress very friendly but the food not so much. Under cooked pasta and the sauce is homemade but certainly not by an Italian. Overall we were hungry so it worked

Pizzas have recently become unavailable, and the pasta was unfortunately one big lump of dough. The service, however, was warm.

What an incredible experience. I normally don't care for Amsterdam at all, but here I feel right at home immediately. I received a very warm welcome and the food was delicious too. Big credit to the young lady serving the drinks; she has great taste in fashion.

The food is quite good and the atmosphere is pleasant. The owner, Mr. Sabahattin, was also very attentive. We chose this place two days in a row because it was close to our hotel! Thank you!

We went out for dinner on the terrace on a hot day. I had a strawberry/mint lemonade, very tasty! Not too sweet. However, the strawberry attached to the glass was dried out, so that looked less appealing. The service was friendly. We ordered a burger and linguine with pomodoro and burrata. The burger itself looked like a burger you get at a snack bar, deep-fried instead of grilled, which was a shame; otherwise, the burger was fine. The pasta was tasty, the tomato sauce was well-seasoned, and the burrata was a good addition. For dessert, I had the tiramisu. This took a very long time to arrive. The preserving jar it was served in was very large. There was a lot of cocoa powder on it, which I'm not a fan of; it's often excessive. The tiramisu could be lighter; it was a bit stiff. And the ladyfingers were heavily soaked in coffee, making the base very soggy. All in all, a pleasant experience in the neighborhood.

Service was shoddy, food very very average, wine seriously how can you serve this at 23 celcius and especially for this price? As a resident in the neighborhood my advice to the owner sell it to some who cares. I will not return under this ownership.

I used to go to this restaurant frequently because of the pizza, which was authentic Neapolitan, but as of now (May 2026), something changed, maybe it’s under new administration, and unfortunately the restaurant got worse. I ordered a Cola and got a Pepsi (no questions asked, they just brought it). There is no Birra Moretti on tap anymore. And the pizza is a joke now!! I’ve had better from the frozen section from the supermarket!! The only good part is the terrace during summer, but I will not go there for food anymore

The food was a failure. Absolutely not worth the money. It's impossible for it to be an Italian restaurant or offer an Italian concept, in my opinion. Not recommended.

We were sitting on the terrace, had ordered three things, and all three went wrong, even though we tried to explain everything very clearly and calmly, and even pointed out what we wanted on the menu; the woman didn't seem very experienced. Additionally, the glasses, plates, and cutlery were dirty (there was something caked on them), so we didn't really dare say anything about it. The food was okay, not fantastic, but the man was friendly, and the woman herself was also friendly (unfortunately not sharp). Very disappointing, but all in all, once is enough, never again.

The service was very friendly! A beautiful terrace. My son had the bruschetta and the pizza diavolo: very tasty! I had the broccoli soup and the linguini with mussels: the pasta was swimming in olive oil, really way too greasy! The soup was fine. Next time I'll go for the pizza. However, the staff should point out to tourists that it is not okay to consume groceries from Dirk van de Broek in the restaurant; because that is not how it should be done and it sends a strange signal to other guests.

We had pizza and it was really excellent.

No wonder all this huge place is empty. In a very begin when I entered the lady who works . She even didnt sayq proper hi.ok forget Hi. I clearly said to her. Please make me a cappuccino with less milk. So the cappuccino is going to be stronger. I had to go the toilet I come back she waits for me with cappuccino asking to pay her immediately. I wanted to stay and watch the fountain of the Mercatorplein. It.is true I am not a cute and handsome man. But ,this fact doesn't give her right to ask me to pay immediately. I was and I am not going to run away. Why I am giving them this negative review is their poor and in professional treatment and service towards a normal client. Who knows maybe they are expecting the Netherlands VIP clients. In Mercatorplein NL VIPS you can forget it. However it is , I am very disappointed with the approach and 0% of respect of the lady working today. She add one extra shot caffe in my cappuccino without me asking for it. I only asked less milk . I asked her used less than usual milk. Of course she heard me but she wanted to sale one extra shot caffe so she can get one unsatisfied costumer. I used to come here at this place. Service and product quality was allways in the highest level. It's ok it's pity.

Nice place, good food, but way too expensive for what it is.

I ate here twice last year and was satisfied with both the taste and the experience. Unfortunately, this time it was really different. We ordered a simple pasta, but both the taste and the presentation left much to be desired. To be honest, the food wasn't tasty. I took two bites and left it. Additionally, the restaurant was virtually empty. Despite the fact that five or six staff members were present, it took a remarkably long time before we received our food. That made the experience even more disappointing. I hope this review is taken as a constructive signal to be sharp again regarding quality and service, because it is a nice establishment with potential. I plan to come back again in a few weeks to see if there has been any improvement. If so, I will of course update this review. Should that not be the case, that would be a real shame.

Great pizza, great beers, great service! A lovely venue in Rembrandtplain

We always enjoyed coming here for a pizza, but when we were here yesterday, we noticed that the pizzas are no longer the ones we were used to. No more beautiful thick crusts and tasty dough. No, just a boring pizza with the typical semolina-sprinkled crust that belongs more in a shawarma shop than a pizzeria, yet at the same high prices as before. The price-quality ratio is completely out of balance. The service was also somewhat disappointing; neither during nor after the meal were we asked even once if everything tasted good, as if they are aware of the fact that the quality has declined. A real shame.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and excellent drinks. Bar Lusconi is a cosy spot with a relaxed vibe and consistently good service. Definitely worth a visit!

The Spanish waitress is very nice but rushed and forgetful. She speaks unintelligibly fast, broken English. Our own gluten-free bread was prepared for another customer, and the excuse drink was offered to us when we paid the bill. Well, then we had to leave. Update: In response to this review, I am asked to get in touch. I am doing so. They want the date and time and ‘of course we will compensate your not very good experience with an offer at Barlusconi’. It is almost 2 weeks later. Haven't heard anything since, not even a thank you.👎 Update: Eventually got offered lunch 👌

Delicious pizza, from a real pizza oven

Nice bar on the market place. Service was super friendly and helpful. Burrata was great. Nice place outside when the weather is good. Good selection of beers.

Update: Are not open during the opening times listed on Google Maps. Arrived to closed doors along side irritated vendors. Nice terrace. Friendly, chaotic service, but poor price-quality ratio. Not great Italian food at highway-robbery, Amsterdam Centrum prices. After two small glasses of so-so house wine and waiting for three mediocre slices of bruschetta for 23 (!) euros, we decided to cut our losses and go have a 5 star pizza on the Postjesweg.

Menu was changed, less options (no octopus). Tonight some items were not available: they were offering fries instead of mashed potatoes and they ran out of tiramisu. The pizza is good, but the Google maps photos of Neapolitan pizza are misleading. Had a nice time. Good service and nice ambience.

A warm and professional welcome, very pleasant service, quality pizza, fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked, and delicious pasta – a real treat! A flawless Italian restaurant to discover without delay.

A beautiful, clean, and modern restaurant, yet cozy, homey, and atmospheric with plenty of seating. Fast, friendly, and hospitable (customer-focused) service (despite the busy/full place). Large portions of (plenty of) delicious and authentic (flavorful Italian) dishes, from pizza to pasta and penne to... (and from lunch to dinner). And all for a very good/reasonable price. Price/quality (flavor and portion size) very good. All in all: highly recommended, well worth it, a pleasant experience and price/ And definitely worth repeating. P.S. Definitely, considering the abundance of this type of restaurant in Amsterdam.

Spontaneous visit to Bar Lusconi after having been to its predecessor Zürich in the past. We stopped by for lunch and both had a sandwich (carpaccio & veggie). Disappointed by the quality / freshness of the bread. Clearly not fresh. I don't understand why a restaurant would serve days old bread. Super dry sandwiches, not tasty at all. I guess we should have picked a pizza.

We really liked the place and the service, especially from Carlos. He also helped us find places to eat here in Amsterdam, which is much appreciated when you're visiting from abroad. The food was very, very good. The pasta was particularly noteworthy—perfectly cooked and delicious.

One of the greatest experiences I've had in Amsterdam. The hospitality was phenomenal. I love the ambiance and the energy that the waitresses displayed and it made such a wonderful night. The bolognese was amazing and so was the pizza. Thank you for the recommendations and hopefully we'll come back when I'm in Amsterdam.

The food is delicious & comforting - with an open kitchen in a very unique building! The staff is passionated and makes you feel as if you’re part of the family. We even did a limoncello shot with them at the bar at the end of the shift. Def worth a visit! PS: Try the cauliflour snacks as appetizer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've been twice. Once as a couple, and once with a large group of 10. Both times, the service was impeccable, fast, and attentive. Good wine, delicious cocktails. For a pasta lover like me, this is always my favorite, and you won't be disappointed.

Bar Lusconi is a great place! I really enjoyed it. We ordered a Margherita pizza and a beef pasta – both were delicious and freshly prepared. Enjoyed the entire evening, from the most delicious burrata to the fluffiness of the focaccia to the hostess' glasses! A great place for small or large groups, and the staff knows what they're doing!

What a cozy atmosphere, good service and above all, delicious food.

The service was friendly, but the pizzas were very soggy (a shame, otherwise they would have been delicious) and the tiramisu was simply something someone in the kitchen had done by putting two ladyfingers in a bowl, pouring a white blob over them, and then immediately serving it. So, the ladyfingers were hard and didn't let them set. Really strange.

There were six of us for a late dinner. We were greeted promptly and seated quickly. But then things really went wrong. The beer tap we were seated at wasn't working. We'd put our credit on the table, but there was no way any beer would come out. Another colleague of yours said, "Oh yeah, but they only serve events, and it's broken." I think something went wrong there. We moved to another table, and again had to wait a long time for our drinks. (Over 45 minutes in total, and there were only six beers...) We finally got them on the house after we asked for them. I thought the pizzas were terrible. They were incredibly soggy, and I couldn't even pick them up to take a bite. My scissors, which I was supposed to use to cut the pizza, fell apart. The serving process wasn't perfect either, but I didn't feel like complaining about that. One person had pasta, and the portions were really small... too small. The atmosphere was really nice, but too much went wrong at our table. To put it bluntly: A pretty face, little substance.

Barlusconi always serves the best pizza! The service is excellent, and it’s definitely my favourite pizza spot in Amsterdam.

I left your restaurant with the impression that this type of situation was not being taken seriously. The waitress who served me the pizza and took my payment apologized for the situation even before I explained what happened or how I felt. Which makes it clear she was aware of this man’s behavior while it was happening. Yet no one intervened to support me or to ensure that I could enjoy my dinner in peace. For me, the most upsetting part of this experience was not only the harassment itself, but also the lack of action from the staff once it was evident that I was uncomfortable. This left me feeling unsafe and unsupported as a guest. I hope you will reflect on this and take measures to ensure that your staff is prepared and willing to step in immediately if a customer is being harassed. This would make a meaningful difference in protecting your guests. ----------- I had a very unpleasant experience at Bar Lusconi last Sunday. I went there alone for dinner, but before my pizza even arrived, a man sat down next to me with a drink. His clothing had the same colors as the restaurant’s uniform, so I assumed he worked there. I asked him politely to leave me alone, but he refused. I had to insist several times, and when my pizza was served, I even looked at the waitress hoping she would intervene, but she did nothing. The man continued to bother me despite me raising my voice and telling him clearly that I wanted to eat alone. After some time, he finally left, but by then I had lost my appetite. I ate only a couple of slices, asked for the rest to go, and requested the bill. When paying, the waitress apologized and claimed the man does not work there, saying he was just someone who comes often and that they always have to ask him to leave. However, I had seen him hugging another waitress earlier, and she did not seem uncomfortable with it. This made me feel like I was being lied to. Overall, it was an extremely uncomfortable and upsetting experience. No staff member intervened when I was clearly being harassed, and instead, I felt completely unsupported. Because of this, I will not be returning to Bar Lusconi.

I can only congratulate you on this bar dedicated to the greatest Italian of all time.

Great food, good atmosphere and lovely service!!

The atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff compensate somewhat for the quality and prices of the food, but you don't have to go there for real Italian food, and it's not really accessible for the small budget either.

The service was wonderful, the staff knows how to deal with customer expectations like few other places. Good food, very pleasant outdoor seating for hot days. Tiramisu was very fluffy and delicious.

We live in the neighbourhood and this used to be our go-to to sit by the fire at least twice a week in wintertimes (if not more), as they had an awesome fireplace and atmosphere which they replaced with just.... a table and chairs. We were and are very sad that they took it out but alas, we went for pizza to give Bar Lusconi a shot. Was not a good idea. Pizzas were burnt, small and expensive. Plus the place has nothing unique about it anymore... Now it's just one of the five pizza places with too expensive crappy pizza. Very sad development for a very cool place, sorry for the bad review but we had to say something at least. Please owners, bring back the vibes!!

What a fantastic find! Bar Lusconi is a cozy and authentic Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food is absolutely delicious — from the fresh pastas to the perfect pizzas, every dish is full of flavor and clearly made with care. The staff are warm, friendly, and make you feel right at home. Great selection of wines and cocktails too. It’s the kind of place where you want to stay a little longer, enjoy good company, and savor every bite. Can’t wait to visit again!

Pros: the food was good, staff were friendly, and it was nice to sit outside under the umbrellas next to the water jets. Cons: management woefully under scheduled for a Saturday, leaving staff scrambling. Judging by the (actual) hour and a half it took us to get two cold sandwiches, and other tables sending food back, I think some tickets got lost or mixed up in the chaos. Staff were trying their very best, but it definitely wasn't an enjoyable experience.

Waiting an hour for your first drink is inexplicable in any way!

We went to eat at this place attracted by the name and the fact that we had met the waitress, very nice, the night before. The place inside is very simple but nice, with a very Instagrammable swing. The pizza chefs are mostly Italian, the pizza is good, not extraordinary but definitely one of the best you can find in Amsterdam. The place is a bit out of the way, 20 minutes by Uber from the center.

Slow to deliver menu's, forgot to input one of the drinks in the order, food sat waiting for server to deliver to us for 5 minutes as server was having dinner with no replacement. Couldn't get any attention to pay bill. Went up to the bar after losing patience.

Excellent service, cozy atmosphere. However: pizza was quite burnt so all sides were cut off. Indicated during operation. She just said: oh yes, a bit burnt indeed. No further response/action. So no pizza next time for me.
