Verheul was a household name in Woerden. They made most things themselves, including the salads. Unfortunately, they closed years ago, and with them, the quality disappeared. The taste of the past has now become a greasy, tasteless snack.

Your hand glides over the familiar handle, exactly as you can only imagine it when you experience it. The handle, softly worn with use, tells decades of stories. You're greeted by a warm cloud of fried air that envelops you like a greasy hug from the past. The scent of crispy fries and imported snacks from a cheaper country fills the 1970s-never-renovated snack bar. And this isn't just any snack bar; this is Verheul. As you sit down on the faux leather sofa, plagued by crackling, and let your arms cling to the clean yet slightly greasy table, you almost forget what year it is. It feels, even if only for a moment, as if you're in the old Holland Wim Sonneveld sang about. Observing the unlit freezer with extra supplies, the sun-bleached posters with terms like "luxury meatball" and "shashlik" makes you dream of simpler times. The food is reasonably priced, despite the extra price tag, which is covered four times over with contrasting bright white paper and handwritten price. It's served hot, so even after you've finished your fries, you'll still be burning your mouth on the treacherously cold-on-the-outside, glowing-on-the-inside croquette. If you close your eyes while enjoying your meal, the only sounds you'll hear are the soft hum of the refrigerated counter filled with snacks packed in bags among the sparse green strips of "forestation," the distant scrolling of a Chinese version of TikTok by the owner, who kindly took your order, and, of course, the crackling sound of the deep fryer cooling down. All of this under the scorched suspended ceiling, illuminated by half-functioning fluorescent lights. Verheul is the only place where a millionaire and a beggar both have to wait the same amount of time for their pedal boat.

I've gotten fries and snacks here several times. They're delicious and not too expensive. The owner is friendly, and they're truly the best fries in Woerden. Highly recommended.

Limp fries croquette doesn't taste like it used to, that's why I prefer to go to the Prinsehoek, which is great with gyros, etc.

It has been a very long time since I have been here, I can still remember what it was like with the first owners (wooden benches, tasty salads, homemade croquettes, etc.) What is striking is that there is more than enough staff to help you. to help. The food was also fine, another plus point is that this cafeteria is often open longer than others, so keep that in mind! ^^

I like ordering a burger, I do my best. the milkshake could be a bit thinner but otherwise delicious. You wonder if god made these snacks. But it's a shame that the cashier was spilling sauce all over our table while he was eating his special frikandel sandwich. For the rest, nice staff and good banks.
