Canvas in Weesperzijde

We stumbled upon this place for a family dinner and were delighted with our experience. The whole fish was delicious, the burger nothing special, but we were able to finish with an excellent crumble. Aside from the food, the atmosphere is very cozy. Finally, the staff's patience with our boisterous 16-month-old baby deserves special mention.

The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because the waitress was wearing a necklace with the state of Israel in red ( The service and atmosphere were great) You can have your own political opinions and to each his own. Just keep it out of the work place! Especially when you are serving other people who might be offended by it.

We went for lunch here, the food was amazing. There was only 2 people running the front side of the warehouse so they were obviously stretched. It was running a little slow but that's understandable. They were really nice though. The salmon and eggs was absolutely amazing and the burger was really nice too. Great views, and actually quite reasonably priced. About 45 EUR for 2 people including drinks.

We had a wonderful meal with a beautiful view and a lovely atmosphere. The guinea fowl was delicious, and the vegan lentil stew was also fantastic!

A view over Amsterdam, a DJ playing music on a bike, and delicious food. Even though the service made us wait a bit, the vegan bitterballen and sweet potato fries were very tasty.

I normally just come for drinks and it’s one of my favorite places. It’s good for a small group or a date (for a larger group you might need to get lucky to find a table). Everyone loves a rooftop with a view. Take someone here who has never been and they will be impressed. It has an outdoor terrace as well which is great to have the indoor/outdoor options. It can be quite loud, almost annoyingly where having a conversation is difficult. It also can be busy on weekends and I’m not always sure I will find a place when I show up but I usually do.

Nice place, but the DJ sucks. Everybody I spoke to was dancing because they want to dance, but not because they liked the DJ. Could benefit from changing him.

Chef is really good, the serving staff got the drinks over wrong 3 times, and it was only su, mineral su and a wine ! Then they cleared plated before we had all finished. Food really healthy and good value for the location.

Great rooftop bar, the view is amazing from here. They have beer pitcher, cocktails and even tho I didn't try the main dishes they looked good. We spent the afternoon with a great sunset and chill music. They have DJ on Saturdays from 20:00

We had a lovely evening here at Canvas. We came in for cocktails and the place didn’t disappoint! Most of the cocktails were quite bitter, so we asked our lovely bartender Lotje to make us her version of a passion fruit martini and she made the most amazing sweet cocktail for us! Great service and friendly staff, as well as a nice view of the city!

Staff complaining for not being enough people and the bar is not even full. Didn’t let us in to have a couple beers even… While he was sitting on his phone in the corner next to the kitchen. The guy with a weird haircut.

The drinks and food were quite okay. We weren't asked how we wanted our steak cooked. The waitresses kept suddenly appearing next to us; it was very busy. The music was way too loud, so I sometimes couldn't understand them. The tables were also quite close together. Not recommended for highly sensitive people.

Absolutely loved the vibe. Its a restaurant/bar on a rooftop of a hotel. We went for dinner (that by the way was really tasty) and then drinks on the terrace. We tried to make a reservation but it was full, we decided to give it a try anyway and had no problem getting a table as soon as we got there, even though it was a Saturday evening. Great views, great place, great music. The only thing why I don’t give 5 starts is because the service was really slow (but the staff were kind).

Strange people work there they are not customer friendly, opening hours do not match what they tell you. and they are racist do not go there, really a gay bar.

In itself magical place with a view. But the information on rules well-intentioned information is too much after a while. Presumably in the combination of all the drinks that are not there. What they want to manage or control is not really hospitable. The hospitable customer is king principle was far to seek. That the dance floor is freed up, that the kitchen closes, that the cocktails have a final round. That the terrace closes that the la Chouffe is gone that.. gosh guys RELAX we pay enough just act normal.

You shouldn't go here for the food. Very mediocre. Lukewarm stew and tasteless salad with hardly any fennel. Service was fortunately very friendly and the view is great.

I was celebrating my birthday with a friend but it was not quite as expected. We were told that the kitchen were closing in 10 minutes and we were out in a hurry (at 21h40) I mean I understand that the kitchen close but why let table be reserved at 9h30 if you close the kitchen 10 min later ? We had to choose if we weee going to take dessert, we choose Somme ice cream instead we would be stil hungry… the waitress gave our plate without even take a look at us, just put everything on the edge of the table and leave. We ate and were told to rush + the ice cream just melted by the time it was dessert moment. We were asked to pay at the bar before finishing our meals, my friends was in the bathroom at this moment, so here I am, mouth full of food following this guy to pay at the bar for my birthday because he didn’t even wait the end of the diner or that my friend came back. After paying we couldn’t go back to our table and had to took our drinks somewhere else. I mean it was okay but so unprofessional from beginning to end. The place is nice but I won’t recommend it if you want to have a dinner of quality and enjoy a good moment without stress

Hidden spot, love the food and terrace. Terrace is first come-first serve, no booking available. I liked that place so much, that I spent my birthday there, they let me bring balloons, which is a very nice gesture :) staff is friendly.

Went Here with My parents & sister for a lunch at the rooftop, not too busy around 6-7 on a weekday, staff was extremely friendly, and attentive, yet young and funky. prices for the cocktails/drinks & food were also very accessible especially in regards to the location, and quality. Super nice view on the city, burger could have used a little bit of sauce, but in general a good, big filling portion! If you’re looking for something that feels very upscale but doesn’t require that price, volkshotel is definitely the way to go. Love this place, and very family friendly yet quirky and characterful!

I come to Amsterdam yearly, and whenever I visit I book at Volkshotel, since it has become my favourite accomodation. What I find baffling is how you can be treated as a hotel guest, depending on which employee you get (this can sometimes happen at the reception or bar downstairs as well). On the terrace you have to scan a QR code to order and pay. The problem is, that they only accept Dutch bank cards or iDeal, which obviously I didn't have as a person living abroad. So I got up and went to the bar to place my order and pay, telling at the counter that unfortunately I could not pay through their system. I did this twice and both times bartenders who were half my age were rude, gave me the eye roll and the feeling that I was disrupting their side conversations with their co-workers (it was not busy, there was nobody at the bar) and made me feel that they were accomodating my request to pay and order at the bar as an exception - I mean, I even got up and went to them, it wasn't anything major. As mentioned, this happened twice during my last visit, which left a sour taste on an otherwise overall amazing trip to my favourite hotel in my favourite city. I suggest you either adjust your online ordering system accepting international credit cards so guests won't "bother" your employees, or maybe hire people who love being in hospitality (as a bartender myself I would never treat people like that for no reason).

I have been here several times. Really nice. But lats time I came at 2am and they told me the bar was closed even through they close at 3am. The bar tender said the beer tap was clean and couldn’t serve anything else. Honestly disappointed. I come here cause is great but now you cannot trust if people want to work their full shift.

Food, in this case the fish was tasty and tender. The service can be better. We were the only couple inside to eat. But no one came to take the order because they are busy bringing drinks outside because they work via QR code there, but not inside. So you have to contact someone yourself.

We were double charged, and they said they’d pay us back since they couldn’t issue a refund immediately. They took our details but never followed up. Absolutely unacceptable!

Stayed at the hotel on a business trip and went for breakfast at this restaurant. The breakfast is just depressing, limited and low quality food for the price.

Medium food (quite overpriced for what you get), poor service (we had to wait a long time to place our orders and even went to the bar twice to order) and plates were empty on the table for an extremely long time after the meal. The view is great.

I assume it gets busy during the weekdays because of the rooftop. In my experience don’t expect to get anything served within 40 minutes of getting there even if seemingly not busy :(((((

Upon arriving at the establishment, we were waiting for a long time to be seated to a table. Noticing other guests entering and seating themselves, we did the same after a while. We seated on a table but after waiting for 30 minutes without any acknowledgment or request to take our order, we decided to move to another table. Unfortunately, after another 30 minutes of waiting, a waitress finally approached us. However, her demeanor was rude and aggressive as she insisted that we move to yet another table, not allowing us the opportunity to speak or explain that we were there for 1h already

On March 29 at 18:30 we had a very unpleasant experience at Canvas. We were not helped for a long time and when an employee finally came, she became unfriendly and aggressive. She reacted defensively, interrupted us constantly and even shouted at us. This felt intimidating and unprofessional. It concerned an English-speaking lady with black, curly hair, approximately 1.65m tall. We hope that something will be done about this and would like to hear how this is handled.

The service was very slow and there were some confusions on the drink. The view is pretty great though.

This bar is five minutes from Wibautstraat station. It has a secret vibe as you enter via a lift to a trendy bar with rooftop scenes of the area. It has a mixed crowd of young people and families. There are various events available for music and dancing. The staff are friendly though service can be infrequent at times. The cocktails are exceptional and the food is excellent. The place has a nice atmosphere and is enjoyable for dining or partying. Highly recommended.

The burger tasted like it had been there a little longer. My dining companion and I ordered another cocktail at 10:25 p.m., but it was forgotten. I understand that it may have something to do with staff, but the transition from food to club is quite sudden and sudden. We were offered a glass "on the house", which was excellent

The only good thing was the food but as we stayed for the whole evening and celebrated a birthday, many negative points were scored. Paid toilet (after 22:0), seriously?? Unfriendly and unprofessional waiters: one broke the glass above my head; another served kombucha for one of our friends and told the other "it was a mistake, we don't serve kombucha" (?); the final move was when the girl brought a cappuchino to our table and to my request of another one said "we don't serve coffee anymore" (it was 22:20). Never sorry, never smiling, definitely understaffed and underpaid. The "dj" was just playing random tracks as if it were his Liked songs on Spotify. Tables got way closer to each other than 2-3 years ago here at Canvas. You cannot pass by without bothering people; it's super crowded and you don't hear your friends but the neighbors' tables. Overall max 2/5

I celebrated my birthday here last weekend. The big advantage is the view, the drinks are tasty, you can dance there. The disadvantage is how busy it was, I had reserved a place for 25 people (very well in advance), but I had no idea that Canvas had actually taken the size of the group into account. There were even more groups in a very small space. That's the only thing I have to say about it :)

Cozy location, sat on the outer ring for drinks and that works very well for drinks. Service was fast, friendly and customer-oriented menu: they have a dining and drinks facility. If you come for drinks with a group, it is not possible to get a suitable drinks board for a group and you have to order individual items. that's a bit inconvenient when you have a drink.

Pretty surreal location. Great for drinks, but even better for a lunch or breakfast! Can get pretty busy in the evenings, but throughout the day stays mostly empty. Service is really chill, coffee is great, view speaks for itself, and prices are reasonable. Honestly can’t recommend enough

Nice place on the top floor of a Big Hotel. Great views, and funky atmosphere. I have eaten here a couple of times. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the size of the portions. It's just not enough, and given the prices they ask, it should be.

Wow. 2,5 hours for a 4 course meal. They forgot us several times in a half full restaurant. It started with ignoring us while when we entered. Then they forgot about the gluten free meal even though we informed them numerous of times, when we made the reservation, when they called us to confirm and today when we entered the restaurant. Such a bad service. They offered coffee for the long waiting after they forgot us again to serve the dessert … to find out they just put it on the bill. Don’t mind the 7 euros, but don’t offer it then as a kind of service. Second time the service was really really bad. The food isn’t worth the agony either. So won’t be coming back for dinner.

The starter of the Christmas menu was very tasty, the soup was very mediocre and the main course was also substandard. The location and service were very good.

I am very dissatisfied with how special dietary wishes were handled. I made a reservation weeks in advance and informed them that I have an intolerance to garlic and am a vegetarian. Normally I would call after this, but because it was so clearly requested when making a reservation, I trusted that it would be taken into account. When I arrived it turned out that I could only eat the salads, not exactly a festive choice. Fries could also be added, and I double checked that there was no garlic in the mayonnaise. Ate with 4 people and gave e190 plus tip of e15. Only to be awake all night with a stomach ache (and dry mouth, both symptoms of having eaten garlic after all). I suspect that there was garlic in some of the Russian salad, or that the wrong mayonnaise was served with aioli. Anyway, I haven't slept a wink and I really feel bad about it. That for e215,- 😢

Charged double for drinks and they couldn’t refund the money. No receipt was given either. In 2024 with digital tablets as registers they cannot give simple refunds without printing manual forms? I left my bank details but they never issued a refund or contacted me. Wonder how many people they scam like this every night. Should send an inspection.

The views are spectacular, but it’s clear this place is in serious need of better management. We experienced painfully slow service. - A steak ordered medium-well but served blue, paired with an overwhelming sauce, vaguely resembled chimichurri - A salad with no dressing - What was listed on the menu as a soufflé turned out to be deep-fried bites (though tasty, misleading) served with sweet chili dipping sauce - The "crayfish" are yabbies On the positive side, the oysters and chips were excellent. But overall, the experience left us with disappointment. If you're just after a great view, fried food, and a beer, it’s worth a visit. For anything more, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

I came here because of the comments and it was a terrible experience. We were a group and asked to the dj if he could play something similar but he didn’t even look at us and said no. Why people need to be so rude? Saying a no it’s ok, but why people working with public needs to be so rude and make people want to leave the place… don’t recommend for internationals. I celebrated my birthday here on Saturday evening and I was blown away by the unprofessionalism of the staff and the incredibly poor service. Only once did someone come by for drinks and then we tried to order at the bar ourselves, which was almost impossible. I was completely ignored by the staff and waited almost half an hour for my drink. I then walked back to the bar, where my order had been on a tray for about 10 minutes and I wanted to offer to bring it to the table myself. I could barely finish my sentence and was snubbed by the bar staff. Then it was said that it would be delivered, which did not happen. Everyone just walks around like a headless chicken and I don't get the feeling that the staff has been trained at all or has even a LITTLE bit of understanding. And I understand this to a certain extent, because I have been working in the catering industry since I was 15 and know how chaotic and stressful it can be. But what I really find downright acceptable is how the staff treats guests. And that halfway through the evening the bar simply closes and suddenly nothing can be ordered for more than half an hour. I walked to the ground floor to get myself a drink. Even when I wanted to pay at the bar, no one spared me a glance. I am really deeply disappointed. I sent this to you privately, but since I didn't get a response, I'm putting it on the internet.

As we were staying in the hotel we thought we'd pop up for a drink before heading out for the evening. While the setting and view is nice, the service was terrible. 4 waitresses seem to be walking around not knowing what they are supposed to do. It took 30 mins to get our first drink and it was either in there!
