Chinees Indisch Restaurant 'Mei Wah' in Nieuw-Bergen

Despite the negative reviews, we thought it would be fun to get food here, and we weren't disappointed! It's indeed an older place with worn carpet. What charm! It's like stepping back in time 40 years. Fantastic! The food didn't disappoint either: large portions and no expense spared. Of course, you can't expect culinary masterpieces for this price. You simply trim off the occasional fatty bit, and there's still plenty left. There's also plenty of meat and excellent flavor. No thick, sugary syrup, but a perfectly thin sauce. We don't understand how anyone could give this less than 5 stars. The experience alone and the friendly lady behind the counter deserve 5 stars. As for the price-quality ratio: ditto! In short: a fantastic retro experience with a price and quality to match. Top!

Cozy atmosphere and delicious food

For the first and last time. The restaurant looks old and worn, with a musty smell that made it uninviting to dine in, so we ordered takeout. The babi pangan was like greasy water and downright disgusting, the noodles weren't fresh, the egg was dry, and the satay was also good enough for the trash. Unfortunately, one star is the least you can give, but it's actually 0 stars, and I should stay away from it.

I ate a spring roll that was made and fried on the spot. Not ready-made or frozen, but a pancake, fried, filled with fresh vegetables, ham, chicken, and egg. Bravo.

ZERO STARS NEVER AGAIN!!! Unfortunately, I have to give at least one star. I've never had such bad food. At first, there was no one in the restaurant. After calling several times, someone came and said he was in the kitchen. We should have left then. He took our order and brought drinks. Then he left. We were the only ones in the restaurant. After 15 minutes, a woman came in with a shopping cart, wheeled it through the restaurant, put the groceries away, and parked the cart inside. Our food arrived and didn't look appetizing. We tried it and found it inedible. The woman came and asked if it was okay. I said no, and she said everyone cooks differently. She also said they were a Chinese/Indonesian restaurant. Then she left and never came back. I've ordered and eaten a similar set menu with Babi Pangang, Satay, Nasi, and Foe Young Hai many times before, but this was bad, and that's putting it mildly. The egg was undercooked, the meat was soggy, and the sauce was sour. We left the food. When the phone rang, the man finally came out of his kitchen. I paid, and I regretted every penny. For bad food, zero service, a complete waste of time, and I might as well have thrown the money down the drain. We went somewhere else to eat afterward.

Today, September 27, 2025, I ordered two portions of tomato soup and a complete rice noodle dish. The soup was lukewarm/cold and quite thin. The complete rice noodle dish was not... so the satay that is supposed to come with it was missing. It was supposed to be delivered later... it was delivered after three quarters of an hour, warm, but we had already eaten. We'll just eat tomorrow then with the second meal, because there is so much of it that the two of us will eat generously from it for two days. We also waited 1.5 hours for food... last time even two hours. It was the weekend, but even so, it is very long. Day 2... warmed up the leftover food. The soup was thicker now, even after being warmed up... so the satay was included this time. Everything tasted pretty good on day 2... we really have to work with speed and care...

Had a delicious Chinese meal with friends today. The food was plentiful. Excellent value for money! Highly recommended!

Just had a delicious, crispy, and well-filled spring roll. The egg and meat were crispy enough. Definitely worth repeating. Friendly service. Very satisfied. Keep up the good work.

Ten times better than a 'normal Chinese restaurant'. Lean meat, fresh vegetables and delicious sauces. Top!

For our taste the food was very bland and babi pangang even very watery. We are used to more spicy food with much more flavor. Quantity was fine, also helped nicely, but what you taste in the end is the most important.

Very friendly service, delicious fries

Koe luk yuk hard as stones, leaking takeaway and cold. I got yesterday's food sort of reheated. And the operator barely speaks Dutch and finds the staff very unfriendly. After asking fellow villagers, they all don't go here to get Chinese. 30 euros worth of food wasted.

Tomato soup is like sugar water with an orange coloring. Spring roll with stewed beef is mainly a lot of fat, little meat and it is certainly not stewed. Whole spring rolls are a juicy mess and taste like sugar. The only good thing was the prawn crackers. Never again for us

Take away food. The food was ready more than half an hour later than ordered. In addition, the food was disappointing. It was tasteless and the babi pangang and tjap tjoy were very watery.

It is incomprehensible why this restaurant sometimes gets bad reviews. We recently ate here and it was delicious. Very friendly service too. You can also stir-fry there.

Had food here for the first time today. It was very tasty and the quantity was also perfect. Because it took a few minutes longer, this was compensated with extra prawn crackers and fried bananas! It wasn't necessary, but it was a very nice gesture! Both madam and sir are very friendly and we will definitely come back here.

I've only had the veggie options but here's my take: quite tasty! Plus they have tofu which is awesome. Lompeias are great. Service is very friendly.

Twee keer via thuisbezorgd besteld en ze stonden beide keren binnen een kwartier aan de deur. Nasi en Peking Eend waren vet lekker!

Supervriendelijke mensen. Heerlijk eten. Rund met szechuan saus is een aanrader.

Wachttijd voor een simpel menu erg lang. Kwaliteit van het eten matig. De 2 sterren geef ik voornamelijk door de weinig sympathieke eigenaresse. Geen klantenbinder.

Gezien we vanuit het noorden op vakantie zijn in de omgeving wilden we wat eten afhalen. We zijn toen uitgekomen bij de Chinees. Het was een aangename verrassing! De man achter de balie was zeer aardig en beleefd. We hebben een menu besteld voor 2 personen en hebben er echt van genoten. Het eten was erg lekker en ook genoeg om de maag mee te vullen. Vooral de babi pangang is het bestellen zeker waard. De prijs was ook heel goed en laag voor wat we ervoor terug kregen. We hebben het eten zelf afgehaald en het was snel klaar. Mochten wij zelf of bekenden van ons hier in de buurt komen dan zullen wij deze chinees zeker niet overslaan. Good job!

Heerlijke Indische rijsttafel afgehaald en gegeten. Niet te lang gewacht en ruim voldoende.

Sind nach ner langen Fahrrad Tour hungrig hier eingekehrt und haben es nicht bereut. Gute Portionen und sehr lecker! Freundliche Bedienung. Können wir weiter empfehlen.

Geweldige cantonese maaltijden!

Vriendelijke en behulpzame bediening. We werden verrast door het veras sings menu. Heerlijk gevarieerd gegeten van de overdadige porties. Zeker een aanrader

Hier wezen afhalen, gewoon goed. Porties zijn ruim en was lekker. Verder goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding. Konden er de volgende dag nog van eten. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar.

Op woensdag 18 sept 2019 waren we met 5 personen naar dit restaurant gegaan. Één van ons bestelde het verrassingsmenu. Daar werd leuk op gereageerd. Er werd gevraagd van welke smaken zij hield en van welke smaken niet. Ik bestelde eend. Mijn eend kwam met een heerlijk krokant korstje en was prachtig mals en lekker. Het verrassingsmenu bleek een voltreffer. Alles was even lekker met mooie afwisselende smaken en tussendoor was het ook gezellig praten met de mevrouw van de bediening. We hadden plezier en de mevrouw vroeg ook onze mening. Wij vertelden dat wij normaal gesproken de sauzen apart willen hebben omdat anders de krokant gebakken producten hun krokantje kwijt raken door de saus... daar stonden ze wel voor open.. geef het maar aan als je dat ook wil. Vanwege de goede ervaring zijn we op zaterdagvond nog een keer gegaan. Ook nu werden onze wensen gevraagd en het werd een combinatiemenu met wat extra's, weer alles even lekker. Het ijs werd echt een feestje, doe maar iets wat op een dame blanche lijkt en maak er maar een feestje van... lachend ging de mevrouw naar de keuken en kwam even later met 3 heerlijke ijscoupes terug. Zaterdagavond was duidelijk drukker dan woensdag en er zaten behoorlijk wat mensen in het restaurant. Geen haute cuisine, maar wel smaak en aandacht voor de gasten.

Gewoon Chinees goed maar iets duurder

bediening is vreugdeloos, plichtmatig, authentiek en autistisch, kan er soms om lachen, soms ook niet. ik hou niet van online reviews maar ben nu drie dagen flink ziek van een acute voedselvergiftiging van een doorgaans hier zo smakelijke loempia. ik heb de kans gegeven dit op te lossen via email maar na drie dagen nog steeds geen antwoord;, dan maar even zo.

Wat heb ik hier heerlijk gegeten. Een buffet met topkwaliteit eten. Voor mij een 10

Netjes te woord aan de telefoon, goed eten goede bezorgservice

These Chinese couple came from Hong Kong Long time ago. Order something of their speciality, for example Hong Kong style kitchen. They can make very delicious Beef Horfan (Fried Beef Rice Noodle). The couples are very friendly, I would recommend to eat at their place and order something of their speciality.

Geweldige Chinees heerlijk eten en niet duur

Altijd vriendelijk en ekker eten.

This is really a hidden Chinese jewel, of all places in such a small town. Fantastic tasting food. Somehow they managed to get the right ingredients. The staff is super friendly, especially Sik-tshu, the lady who does everything in her power to help the customer choose the right food. We had a lunch here (Mihoen Singapore, yan-Chou, and Wanton soup) and enjoyed an amazing conversation with Sik-Tshu at the same time. Lucky citizens of Nieuwbergen who can eat here regularly :-)

Na in twee dagen 368 km te hebben gefietst konden we wel een goede hap gebruiken. De eigenaar nam de bestelling op en bereidde deze zelf. Een topchinees!

Snelle berzorging en altijd lekker eten, vriendelijk personeel

Wij komen hier enkele malen per jaar speciaal naar toe om " een vorkje te prikken" wanneer wij in de buurt zijn. De kwaliteit is constant van hoog - en vers niveau. De gerechten authentiek en de bediening persoonlijk en vriendelijk. De prijzen zijn overigens even vriendelijk! Kortom een aanrader!!

Lekker eten en super bediening klasse 1

Bij "Mei Wah"heb ik eten besteld voor 8 personen.Het eten werd bezorgd op de afgesproken tijd.Alles werd netjes klaar gezet en heb ook uitleg gekregen wat het allemaal is.Stonden ook kaartjes bij wat het was. Rond 19.30 uur belde ze op of alles naar wens was en of het voldoende was.Alles was naar wens en het is ruim voldoende wat je krijgt.Ik had ook mensen uit het Noorden van het land op bezoek,en die zeiden dat deze beter is dan bij hun.Ik moest ook de complimentjes doorgeven van mijn vrienden.De mensen zijn erg vriendelijk en hele goede services.Dit restaurant is een aanrader.En ook namens mij de complimenten. Ik kom zeker weer terug.En bedankt voor de goede services. Met vriendelijke groeten van de vrienden groep en tot de volgende keer.

Super goede service en super goede bezorg service erg lekker.

Laatst tijdens een fietstocht hier gestopt om chinese tomatensoep te eten. De soep was erg lekker en de prijs was haast vooroorlogs! De bediening was zeer vriendelijk en snel. Aanrader!
