We ended up at Café Stoppels after a failed search for German schnitzels. Els had already read the menu three times and suddenly started cursing in German — "That's not a Wiener Schnitzel, that's a Rotterdam import!" The bartender didn't look up or around. Harm did. He had just taken off his leather jacket from Johnny's Vintage and Leathers in Harderwijk, hung it casually on the bar stool, and started dancing with the bartender as if Matthias Reim himself were on the jukebox. It wasn't a dance, it was a confession. The beer caps rattled like castanets, someone shouted "Leave the grinder open, Harm!" but he just laughed and said, "Sometimes you have to dance before you understand where you are." Els downed her Amstel in one gulp, ordered bitterballen (bitterballs), and whispered, "Leather jackets and schnitzels, that's love." And I thought: yes, Stoppels is just such a place — where time stands still and the smells of leather, beer and misunderstandings come together.

I had a very bad experience with security, especially. The people were incredibly rude. My friend had forgotten my sweater, so he wanted to go back in. He wasn't allowed, but I was allowed in because it was my sweater. A little later, I couldn't find it because I needed a number, which I hadn't received. I wasn't told until 40 minutes later. While I was alone in the pub, my friend was worried and one of the security guards punched him in the face because he wasn't allowed in.

A very cozy place to spend some time, just great, the food was so-so. The rest was great.

The DJ wasn't really in the mood to play music for us. He preferred to play his own music.
