De Lantaarn in Wijk 01 Maarssen

I walked in on a quiet Thursday afternoon (around 4:45 p.m.) to find three other customers (already served). I politely said "good afternoon" but was completely ignored by the owner and staff. After waiting a few minutes, two more customers arrived, and initially, the woman behind the counter wanted to help a regular customer first. I said I was first, and was helped first. I'd order one whole French fry without any. You might have guessed it: the regular customer who placed a larger order with fries, snacks, etc., got their order before me. In short, don't come here, at least not if you're not a regular (but then you wouldn't be looking), because you'll be treated like crap. Oh yeah, and the fries tasted like old grease, or there were a lot of reheated ones (fried twice), but it was disgusting. They also tried to foist a 25-cent bag on you without asking. Do with it what you will, the owner certainly does nothing with it if I read the reactions over the years.

They recently started using a pin machine. But when you pay, they secretly add 30 cents! That has happened twice now. So you get robbed. Food is okay, not shocking. Quite expensive though. Snack bar is 1990s in terms of atmosphere. Hasn't changed in years. Owner is very unfriendly. Seems to do everything to make sure you never come back.

A man over 75 urgently needs to go and asks to use the restroom. The manager repeatedly says "no" and directs him to the (closed) library 200 meters away. Simply rude.

I rarely go to cafeterias. The food was good! I was just surprised I wasn't allowed to use the restroom! Very strange for a restaurant! Thanks for the hospitality!

We had a lovely meal with four people. The service was great and the food was delivered to our table. You can also pay by card.

On Saturday, just before dinner, there were no customers, and the owner and staff were waiting with their arms crossed. Only a cheese soufflé was available as a vegetarian snack. €3.25 for a portion of fries without sauce. A generous portion, nicely seasoned/salted, and delicious. You can't pay by card, but there's an ATM around the corner. Ample free parking, and a few seats inside the restaurant.

The food is always ready quickly and deliciously, and they're very friendly! Nothing negative to say.

I see a lot of complaints about the food and the owners. In my experience the food was tasty and fast. The owners are maybe a bit stiff but not bad people.

Food is okay, nothing special but it is nice that they have French fries, owner has been unfriendly for years, I try it about every year but it has never changed.

The owner seems to have just crawled out of bed; looks dull in his eyes and doesn't seem happy to help you with your order. Furthermore, in 2022 you still cannot pay by card. Must have something to do with the tax authorities. Food is average.

What a strange guy behind the counter, doesn't respond half the time when you ask something. I think they forgot the memo that it is 2022 because you can't pay by card... fries were decent, noodles were way too greasy. Not really recommended

Terrible tent. No one inside (including the owner) wore a face mask, you cannot pay by card, it is also super expensive and the quality is medium. Do yourself a favor and keep looking!

Opening hours are incorrect. Has its door open, but when you walk in the owner says it is not open. If you ask when it plans to open, he simply says: "When I'm done...., it could be in 45 minutes..." Worthless.

Nice snack bar with good, fast service. Delicious food, large portion of fries with plenty of sauce and a good snack. Price quality is excellent. Definitely come back.

Hopeless case. Fries with just a few strips of gyros, this should not be called "French fries gyros". Price/quality very below par. Strange / grumpy owner, not customer friendly at all. Been here once, never again.

Food is fine. Service is often surly and no pins.

Great snack bar for a day when you don't feel like cooking yourself. When you enter, your order is taken immediately, so you don't have to stare blankly into space until your turn, like at other snack bars. The fries and frikandels are fine, I haven't tried other things yet. What I also appreciate is the relaxed atmosphere, the newspaper that is always ready while you wait for your order and the option to sit comfortably on a bar stool. I like coming there. The reason why I give 4 instead of 5 stars is the lack of the option to pay electronically. Come on, we live in 2018 and not 1998.

Grumpy owner. Very expensive for what you get. Healthy sandwich, the healthy part was already gone. Lettuce was just not close to brown. Can of coke without a shot.... Next time I'll look for someone else. Even if I have to go to bison track.

Food was dirty, service was not good

I went to De Lantaarn today (18/10/2016) around 12:30 PM, I ordered small fries and a cup of cappuccino. I think the owner is not nice at all. The lady was nice, but the gentleman was not, when I asked nicely about that gentleman 'can I pay now'? that gentleman looks so sour and unfriendly to me and he says 'What are you saying?' and then I said again: 'Can I pay now?' he doesn't say anything to me, then I walk to the lady and then I pay. What I don't think is fair is that I have seen that gentleman is nice to the other customer (Dutch customer), he just talks normally and friendly. I'm not Dutch, I'm an Indonesian woman, but I still have money and I want a nice lunch at De Lantaarn, but I think it's a shame that the owner is a bit of discrimination.
