I ate here for my birthday. First of all, the staff was friendly and cheerful, the decor was warm and inviting, and the aromas from the kitchen were pleasant and inviting. Upon receiving the food, we were enthusiastic, and the presentation was beautiful. Both cuts of meat, combined with the pepper sauce and gravy, plus the winter vegetables and fries, were delicious and very flavorful. The steak tartare, however, was a huge disappointment: grayish meat, no sauces, very coarsely cut, and a subpar taste experience. When I reported this problem, no solution was offered. I think the cola that was removed from the bill was a nice gesture, but it's not in line with the price charged for the tartare. This way, you don't get a tip, and you end up shooting yourself in the foot. The fact that it was my birthday was also ignored. All in all, there are areas for improvement, and I hope you will handle this better in the future.

I had a fantastic birthday at Fred's Cousin last night. I had such a great time, thanks entirely to the fantastic service and atmosphere of the café! A huge thank you from me, my friends, and family to the team, and especially to Fabian! I highly recommend throwing a party or having drinks with your loved ones here!

We already knew the Goudvis family from our previous neighborhood, so how wonderful to discover Bonnie's cousin. You immediately feel like they're family, although I have to say: Fred's cousin still misses that dancing-on-the-tables vibe of Bonnie's a bit. But hey, the drinks, wine, and food are simply fantastic. More than excellent and exactly what you want for a cozy evening. In short: cozy, delicious, and absolutely recommended!

My daughter moved to Amsterdam today. We grabbed a bite to eat around the corner and had a wonderful time recovering. Our Teun also got all the attention he deserved with water and a dog treat. Everything was perfect! The cappuccino came with a glass of water and a delicious cookie. Sugar was provided upon request. And I appreciate that from a sustainability perspective ❤️. My Caesar salad was also delicious, and I hope to come back soon to check out the wine :) etc.

I was at this cafe in Amsterdam with my brother while we were waiting for a friend. Two female employees approached us politely and asked if we wanted to order anything. We respectfully told them we were waiting and would order later. After a while, a male employee—a white man in his 30s—approached with a very serious expression and said, "Either you order something or you leave." His manner of speaking was curt, rude, and completely unnecessary. I felt very uncomfortable and neglected, as if we weren't welcome there. My brother, who was on the phone at the time, responded calmly and politely, saying we were leaving. Even so, the employee looked at us and simply replied, "Go! Bye!"—coldly, as if we were a nuisance. What bothered us most wasn't the rule itself, but the way we were treated, with a lack of respect and empathy. This type of approach has no place in an environment that claims to be welcoming. Unfortunately, we were left with the impression that we were treated differently because of our appearance. I don't recommend it and hope management reconsiders its employees' behavior. Respect should always come first.

Super fun relaxed place! Just chill with terrace near (and on) the water and by the road. Good and friendly staff. The white Sangria's are fantastic! We like to come back here. Food is also great by the way. Steak was delicious!

We went here with a big group for a celebration. The food was not great, I think this place is better suited for drinks only. We were also quite surprised about the lack of interest and friendliness of the staff.

The setting of this bar bistro is nice, but the pricing left me with a sour impression. I ordered a Caesar salad, which was already quite expensive. The waiter asked if we’d like to add chicken—something I assumed was part of a standard Caesar. We said yes, only to find out on the bill that it added €5, bringing the total to €21. While it may have been mentioned on the menu, it wasn’t clearly communicated at the table, and for a casual place, that price feels hard to justify. Another odd detail: there’s a €0.50 surcharge if you choose decaf coffee. Small, yes, but it adds to the sense that everything extra comes with a hidden cost. The food itself was fine, but overall, the experience felt more expensive than expected for what you get. A bit more transparency would go a long way.

El restaurante tiene un buen ambiente y la comida es buena. Necesito añadir que sus precios no son aceptables. Tenga en cuenta que si pide un capuchino descafeinado se le cobrará un adicional de 50 c solo porque es descafeinado. Esto no es normal. La ensalada caeser es más de 16 euros, que es empinado, pero oye, estás en Amsterdam, entonces para mi sorpresa - nos cobraron más de 5 euros por el pollo en la ensalada como si fuera esta gran adición? ¡21 euros por una ensalada! ¡Eso es ridículo! ¿Entonces pagas 16 euros por una ensalada que contiene verduras, crutones y huevos?

Wonderful to enjoy a snack and drink here in the sun. The steak tartare is highly recommended.

Nice beautiful tent. Service is friendly but very slow (had to beckon several times and had to wait a long time for drinks and food). A bit pricey and the order didn't go well. Fine, but they are better and nicer tents.

Waiter was incresdibly rude and treated us like he was constantly bothered by serving us. Worst serving I experienced in 6 years living here.

Atmosphere outside is pretty, especially if you sit in the terrace down close to the water, that is very cool. For the rest a very normal bar with usual variety of drinks and snacks. If you live nearby and it’s decent weather to sit outside definitely come to sit in the terrace close to the water.

It is my first time visiting since it changed from the cafe Radijs. Pros: Incredible location with a large terrace on the canal, good beer selection, cocktails were tasty, the food was also really good! Cons: It took some time to get served our second drink, but it was a sunny busy day so we could see the staff were going as quickly as possible. Summary: great spot for lunch and drinks on the water, will definitely return.

Nice place, but I paid 7.95 euros for fries with truffle mayonnaise. Then I expect something! The fries were limp and I think it's really scandalous on what kind of small plate it was served. I think it's theft. When I said something about it, there was no real response. In short, very disappointed and immediately left.

Nos recomendaron visitar por nuestro hotel. El lugar es bastante acogedor, el personal del bar era muy amable. Estábamos tomando unas copas desde última hora de la tarde, así que decidimos comer algo. El bocadillo de pollo estaba muy bueno, los Nachos eran pobres. Quedamos bastante sorprendidos cuando llegó la factura. Estaban cobrando 5 Euros creo que por una cerveza pequeña, pero bueno deberíamos haberlo comprobado primero.

The bar is located in a very nice area facing the canal, food is ok and service not so bad however this last time we came after all the beers we had we have requested, for at least 9 times, for a bottle of water and this never came. It looked liked they were really not willing to bring it to us and even making fun of us when requesting it again and again and again. I felt really disrespected.

Such a nice spot. I've been twice up on the terrace and down by the water. Both times had immaculate sunshine that is positioned so that lasts until at least 9pm! The drinks were lovely I had a cosmopolitan which was delicious. They have a good selection of craft beers and yummy Dutch fried snacks. Definitely recommend

Good beer selection and nice array of seating by the streets and canals. Nice locals type spot. Only one toilet though!

We were a group of 8 people. The place and atmosphere are nice and pleasant. It is on the water and the service is smooth and friendly. As for the food I found it very disappointing. I ordered the eggplant dish as a main course. This consisted of 10 slices of eggplant with a cheese sauce and lots of olive oil. Completely insufficient in quantity and bland in taste. The fries ordered as extra were limp and all small pieces. Moreover, the food served was not hot enough. In short, a nice place on the water, but more suitable for a drink.

We only had the snacks and they weren't particularly good but they were expensive. Beer was also ok, also rather expensive. The location is very cool and has places in the sun.

Nice place and friendly staff. The only comment is that there is only 1 toilet for ladies and gentlemen and that it is so dark that it is like a dark room. Unsanitary and customer unfriendly. Time for renovation :)

Sadly not quite what we expected. We read and heard lovely thing’s about this place bus the poor service made it a poor experience. The food was okay but not the best or remember able.

Really cool terrace by the water. Lot of space. really chill. Large choice of local beers from the tap and bottles. We did not try the food but we had a great time.

Normally nice place, but today it was completely wrong, forgot drinks, lasted half an hour, but what stood out most was the “caesar salad” where you pay 16.95 for lettuce with an egg, because the chicken is separate and costs another 5 .75… that's not possible, folks…

We had Ceaser Salad and Double Smash Burger. The ceaser salad was really good, it was traditional with anchovies, egg ,sauce and everything. The kitchen is open till 22:00. The staff were friendly and the crowd was very nice as well.

Atmosphere is amazing, there are tables in a deck on the canal, absolutely perfect. I did not book but found a spot there. The food was good, the menu is short and offers some vegan and vegetarian options. It was quite expensive, 97 euros for an entrance, 2 salads and a bottle of tasty natural wine. Service was good, fast and people were kind.

Really cool place, the terrace on the canal is much like what you find all over Utrecht, and its beautiful The service was a bit slow, but it was very busy as it was on a sunny saturday, so no surprise there. The food seemed expensive (7.50eu for 6 cheese sticks?) so would probably just stop for drinks, but will definitely return for the terrace.

One of my favourite spots in Amsterdam and always a go to when friends are in town. Food (burgers are amazing), setting and the service are all top quality – even forgiving us for acting up when there were no Bloody Mary's (sorry again!!)

Hele avond gezeten, op 1 collega na veel zure mensen die aan het werk zijn. Voor de rest heeft niemand oog voor service. Glazen worden niet gehaald, er wordt niks aangeboden en hiernaast betaal je hier voor een biertje nog meer dan in de stad. Pitcher 21 euro. Absurde prijzen voor die service. Hiernaast houden ze goed rekening met de buurt en laten ze tijdig weten wanneer de bar gaat sluiten. Je laatste biertje, die 4.20 kost, mag je ook niet opdrinken. Begrijpelijk, maar jammer.

Prima voor een terras dagje, maar de muizen die letterlijk in de vensterbank hangen en richting de keuken sluipen maakt het niet aantrekkelijk om een hapje te eten.

Leuke plek en gaaf ingericht binnen. Eten was oke niet bijzonder. De bediening was heel slecht; super niet geïnteresseerde jongens die niks zeggen en niet lachen. Enige sociale wat ik ze heb zien doen was stoere verhalen vertellen aan elkaar achter de bar.

Nice hidden gem in Amsterdam west! We sat next to the canal on the terrace to enjoy the sun until late. Drinks are good but we had to ask three times for a portion of fries despite having ordered them together with drinks! It was a Monday evening so not even busy. Pity as it could deserve a 5 stars

I liked the location right on the canal in warm weather. On the less positive sides, service was not very prompt, and the beyond burger was rather dry. On the plus side, the cauliflower, asparagus and spinach salad, mackerel rillettes, and even the bread and butter were quite good.

Leuke tent, vriendelijke bediening. Echter zou ik de cheeseburger ontraden. De steak tartaar en de kip van mijn tafelgenoten waren goed maar de cheeseburger vond ik niet te eten; niveau Mcdonalds. De Mcdonalds heeft er zelfs meer groente op. Het was niet meer dan een hamburger, (niet lekkere) saus en brood. En de volgende dag zat ik bovendien aan de diarree.

Nog voor het terrasseizoen begint, doen we een hapje binnen bij de Neef van Fred. We worden in de extra ruimte achter de bar geplaatst, waar de akoestiek nogal moeilijk is. De kaart zelf is compact maar bevat voor elk wat wils. En: veel vega opties. Vooraf nemen we brood met kruidenboter (niks bijzonders) en als hoofd de Beyond Double Cheeseburger. En helaas: ook die is niet heel bijzonder. De patty oogt als echt vlees maar is tamelijk smakeloos. Het plakje kaas is nu de grootste smaakmaker. We sluiten niet uit in de zomer nog eens op het riante terras terug te keren voor een borrel. Maar als buurtrestaurant heeft Fred weinig onderscheidends te bieden

Dit eetcafé van de familie Goudvisch is een toppertje. Ik kom er een keer in de 3 weken vanuit het zuiden enkel voor ‘De biefstuk van Fred’, een culinair hoogstandje. Hij is medium-rare gebakken zoals het moet. Hij ligt alleen op het bord in een plasje jus. En, hij wordt gesneden met een klassiek Catalaans mes, de Pallares Solsones. Daarbij serveert de bediening alles met een glimlach. Wat een feestje…

Leuk klein buurt restaurant met een paar tafels binnen en een terras. De keuze van de menu kaart is klein. Bediening had het druk en in het begin zagen ze ons niet. Later ging dat beter. Lekkere kip gegeten en zalige wijn gedronken.
