Long wait for food but helpful staff.

We went for an evening with my wife. We were pleasantly surprised. Everything tasted delicious. Everything was beautifully presented. The service was excellent. All in all, a wonderful evening for two. Highly recommended. So much better than a "standard" tapas restaurant.

We received a very friendly welcome from our host, Wilbert. Initially, the four of us wanted to order different tapas ourselves. But after a pleasant conversation with the host, we decided to let him surprise us. That was a good decision, as it allowed us to concentrate on our conversation, and the delicious tapas were served in several sittings. Wilbert, thank you for your advice; we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great food and excellent service good selection of dishes and of drinks. It is rather noisy when busy, however this is a typical atmosphere of a tapas restaurant/ bar.

It was a LONG wait. The food tastes ok, but for the price… It is extremely small portion and, it is very expensive. We stayed there 3 hours, and we left the place still hungry.

We were there on a Thursday. The food was mediocre. The bigger problem was that after 1.5 hours, we had three rounds of tapas and then went to the nearest supermarket because we were still soooo hungry. Our empty plates were ignored for ages, and we simply didn't get anything to eat.

By far, the best restaurant I've ever eaten at. Don Juan offers a great selection of tapas. We tried a wide variety of tapas and each one tasted amazing! And even though we had a lot of food, our bill did not explode, as the prices are more than fair! Apart from the food, the service was excellent and the ambience of the restaurant was very charming. I visited during my summer vacation and had a lovely table in the outside area of the restaurant. And last but not least, the owner of the restaurant is a really great guy. So Wilbert, if you read this, thank you so much for your hospitality! I'm really looking forward to my next visit on my next vacation!

The food was incredible. Especially the chicken empanadas were to die for. The prices are great too! Wouldve given 5 stars if not for the Spanish meats platter, which was ridiculously small😅

Staff was very friendly. We were the only ones inside, I didn't think it was very clean/fresh, also nothing special in terms of atmosphere. We had chosen surprise tapas, I wouldn't recommend that because you don't know what you're paying, it was indicated that it was just as expensive as if we would choose it ourselves. The food itself was good. Only downside: if you have an open kitchen and you cut the meat for your guests, don't eat it yourself in the meantime. Not really fresh. I didn't think the price-quality ratio was entirely ok, for three rounds of tapas and a dessert we spent over €200 for 5p.

It takes way too long and the food is minimal for the price. The menu is not clear since the price is per person or per piece of Tapas, and not for the whole dish. Paid 50 euro and left hungry after 3h.

Very expensive compared to when you choose your own tapas. - Food got worse and worse towards the end of the evening. Green paprika with sea salt had had its best time. - Sangria overpriced and it tasted more like Tinto de Verano. Tip: add bar place for 2 people to reservation options. Could be a very nice place but unfortunately it was disappointing.

Delicious food. Authentic Spanish and super friendly service/owner. You have to take your time but it is rewarded. They have a real Spanish importer and you can taste it. In the photos a small impression of the atmosphere.

Cozy place and the girl who served was alone, still she did a great job. Yummy tapas, cocktails. Had chocolate stuffed churros for dessert which was delicious too.

Super kleinschalig restaurant, met Spaanse tapas gerechten. Vriendelijke eigenaar. We lieten ons verrassen qua eten. Alles smaakte voortreffelijk en was zorgvuldig en met liefde gemaakt. Beter dan de Spaanse tapas in Madrid. Ik had aangegeven geen vis te lusten. Hij had perongeluk dubbele portie gamba's geserveerd. Dit had hij niet in rekening gebracht. We komen zeker een keer terug.

Delicious food, super nice place! Very nice people working there, and they do everything themselves: the service and the cooking. All the food is delicious, and they change the menu occasionally. The sangria is also recommended. There's plenty of delicious food for everyone! The prices are also very reasonable; the four of us ate for €90. A great new addition to Groningen!!

What a pleasant surprise this is, no other restaurant comes close in terms of authenticity. When you close your eyes and taste the food you almost imagine yourself in the narrow streets of Cordoba or Granada. You will definitely see us again!

Delicious food with perfect service

What a nice place and what delicious dishes. They have a menu, but the chef is actually supposed to decide for you what you eat. Had a nice wine with it. Staff speaks Spanish and cooks everything fresh before your eyes. The girl who served us was really great, she made the evening even more fun. Would definitely recommend this and hope to come back soon. Top business! :)

We were received very hospitably. The staff are all really very friendly. We were surprised with tapas boards, and didn't choose ourselves, and we certainly didn't regret it. They really take the time for good food and good service. I highly recommend it!

Really delicious tapas, of very good quality. Never had such delicious tapas anywhere before (not even in Spain). The owner is extremely friendly and is happy to explain more about the origins of tapas and the ingredients. During the summer holidays the staff were on holiday and he ran the business on his own, not taking on too many customers in order to have enough time for those who were there. Really congratulations. The fact is that we live in Utrecht, I would almost drive for it 🤪 Oh yeah and it's crazy affordable?! (Put the price up a bit dude)

We were a group of 9 people. A long table and we let the owner decide. Different tapas snacks every round and enough for everyone. And we never had a moment when it took too long, the timing was perfect and so was the food!

A nice new spot in Groningen. There were 2 orders that were forgotten or took more than 1 hour. This ruined it a bit for us. But the tapas tasted good, they did feel a bit small, but the price reflected that (3 euros or so for a tapas instead of 7-8). The staff was very friendly and the wine was good too!

A really noble, very tasty experience. The owner is very friendly and rightly stands behind his restaurant. The meal was really an experience, every dish was a positive surprise and was more than worth the visit in itself. This was characterized by a balanced flavor composition, which motivated us to order more and more delicacies. I was particularly surprised by the price. I was expecting this for two people incl. Drinks around €60 to pay. In fact, the bill was only half that! Absolute recommendation!

After three years of searching in the Netherlands, my Spanish girlfriend and I FINALLY found the perfect Spanish tapas restaurant. When she tasted the pimientos de padrón (Spanish mild peppers) she even cried... we have never experienced this before... This restaurant offers truly authentic flavors from Spain, which you simply have to experience. It's sometimes hard for her to be so far away from home. This changed everything... It would really be a shame to miss this... It was really great... Wilbert, our host, was fantastic and makes everything himself. He can write books about his dishes and the journey he took to arrive at what the menu looks like now. We wish you all the happiness. This evening was unforgettable. Thank you very much indeed

Writing a review is not my "thing" and I also hate it a bit, nevertheless it was definitely worth eating at Don Juan. Upon entering we were kindly received by the host who gave us the choice of where we wanted to sit. Once the food is on the table, you can enjoy yourself in a richly filled street with people and an abundance of hospitality. In short, a nice, pleasant evening that is worth repeating.

Tonight we ate at Don Juan...all I can say is that everything we ordered tasted very good. A real treat to experience the "real" Spanish to taste tapas. From the first dish, pan con tomate, to the dessert, tarta de queso Manchego, everything was delicious. Definitely recommended if you are in Groningen and you want good food. The service was great, normally the dishes are explained, but this time it was not necessary😉. You notice that everything from the products, the preparation to the service, they know what they are doing. Definitely recommended, keep it up!!!

We were in a group of 7 people and the owner suggested to surprise us with an 'x' amount of courses for which we had set a budget. In our opinion, we didn't get enough for our money, because we were not full after all his courses. For a budget around 210+ euros (excl. drinks) you would expect to be full, right? Unfortunately this was not the case. In my opinion the food is overrated for what it is and the price to quality ratio was not what we expected.

Sober decor but friendly reception. Before we ordered, it was already indicated that a number of dishes could not be ordered due to a new menu. We managed to immediately order three dishes that were not there (chorizo, anchovies, berenjenas). We did order pan con tomate, but it was disappointing. Instead of the delicious thick Spanish country bread with rubbed garlic and tomato, we got some small slices of baguette on which we could spread salt, oil and tomato (frito) from a tub. We paid and luckily we were able to eat delicious food elsewhere in Groningen.

What a nice small and cozy tapas restaurant Don Juan is! This was our first but certainly not our last visit. Upon arrival, you will immediately be greeted in a friendly manner with a brief explanation of the menu. The dishes are brought to your table at a leisurely pace. Each one tasted delicious. We returned home satisfied!

Delicious tapas as you are used to in Spain, but just on the Zuuderdaip in Grunn. Tapas made from delicious Spanish ingredients. Nice atmosphere and very hospitable owner. A winner in Groningen!

It was very quiet and therefore a bit without atmosphere. Bites are nice, but don't expect a full bar with delicacies as in the Basque Country. Tastes are fine, nice guys.

I went here with my Spanish boyfriend and I have rarely seen him this happy. The food is extraordinary and has a good price. The guy is super friendly, helpful and passionate about what he does. The atmosphere is great, small place, amazing light.

Hands down the best tapas bar in all of Groningen by a landslide. The food was amazing, the atmosphere very relaxed, and the owner was obviously extremely passionate about what he does. The recipes were not just a faithful recreation or "interpretation" of the real deal, but THE deal itself, with ingredients imported straight from Spain. Spanish people, go here! You will feel right at home.

We had not made a reservation and the place was already fully booked, but luckily we were allowed to sit at the bar and the service was fantastic. Delicious tapas and nice informal atmosphere, the host is extremely friendly!

Superleuke plek, ontzettend leuk personeel, hele fijne informele sfeer! Het eten is heerlijk. Als ik in Groningen zou wonen, zou ik iedere week terugkomen!

Na de sluiting van Tapas restaurant “El Pincho” in Haarlem eindelijk een waardig vervanger gevonden. Enig probleem is dat “Don Juan” in Groningen is gevestigd. De eigenaar (Wilbert) en zijn Spaanse rechterhand (Gorge) de vrijheid gelaten om verrassende tapas te serveren en dat bleek een goede keuze. De heren geven blijk van kennis van de Spaanse tapas keuken. Heerlijk gegeten in dit uiterst gastvrije restaurant. Reden genoeg om weer even naar Groningen te gaan.
