Very welcoming atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff; excellent food, good selection of beers.

This place is in a quiet residential neighborhood but we found it plenty crowded. Very well cooked meat and generous portions. A good list of mostly Dutch and Belgian beers. Nice view of the canal and cocoa factory. If you are sick of crowded Amsterdam tourist restaurants, it's worth the schlep.

We had a wonderful lunch on the terrace overlooking the Zaan River! The food was excellent, and the service was friendly and helpful! We enjoyed a high cocktail, beer, wine, or soft drink with delicious snacks on the terrace with a group! It was also very cozy and delicious!

Huge nachos, super friendly staff but the pasta wasn't fantastic

The older employee was a bit impatient and curt. That was a shame. The location is very nice by the water and the atmosphere is pleasant. The food was fine, but not great.

For the price, it's definitely the best place in Zaanstad for a meal that's neither too fancy nor too casual. Portions are enormous, so come on an empty stomach.

Voor de eerste keer gebruik gemaakt van de aan tafel service. alles werd perfect op tijd bezorgd en op onze tafel uitgestald. Wat zag het er mooi uit En wat hebben we samen met onze gasten genoten van het lekkere eten. Dit is echt een aanrader. Iedereen kon pakken wat hij lekker vond en ook mensen met een speciaal dieet hadden ruime keuze.

A great place to socialize for a drink or a bite to eat. It's just a shame you have to make a reservation for six months, so to speak.

My cousin and I had a wonderful meal. Wow, you get so much on your plate! And the staff is very friendly. The seating is lovely by the water, a lovely spot in Assendelft.

With a menu full of delicious dishes served to your table by exceptionally friendly staff, De Toog is a little gem on the Zaan River. Inside, there's a cozy pub atmosphere, and outside, you can relax on the terrace overlooking the Zaan. It's always a wonderful place to be.

Erg lekker geluncht, eten top, bediening zeer vriendelijk. Kaart is vrij uitgebreid. Kan het iedereen aanraden. Zowel lunch als diner. Zorg wel dat je honger hebt want de porties zijn groot.

We were trying to eat here, we came really early when the restaurant was just open it was TOTALLY EMPTY, they said they service us because they were “aspecting a lot of people” we got the impression they didn’t want to attend us because we weren’t locals.

Really nice restaurant which can also be reached by boat like we did. Had a good lunch with fresh ingrediënts and the looks of it were amazing. Big portions could not eat it all. I had the eggs with fries good combination haha lovely. Recommended to have a delicious lunch for a good price.

Op doorreis toevallig neergestreken. Een geweldig eetcafé in Koog aan de Zaan met een gezellig terras aan de Zaan. Een typische Zaanse buitenkant. Geweldig gegeten, grote porties, en vriendelijk personeel. Een echte aanrader!!!

Delicious food and a great place to enjoy the water

Heerlijke clubsandwich gegeten bij deze zaak. Was hier al een keer eerder maar ze hebben er dit keer zeker een stap harder ingezet. Wat een topper dit broodje, lekker patat en Zaanse mayo erbij. Hiervoor moet je een keer bij de toog gegeten hebben! Kom snel weer terug!

Wij gingen hierheen ivm verjaardag. Eten was ronduit slecht! Eens maar nooit meer. Stoofpotje was opgewarmd in de magnetron, ik weet niet wat het was maar geen stoofpotje!

The place is nice and I liked the atmosphere. Simple but good food. The price was a little expensive for what we ate but like in the rest of the country.

A cozy café with a diverse menu. We started with a starter since there weren't any appetizers for me (a personal choice). For the main course, I couldn't decide, so I went for the "two-bite" option. The satay was excellent, surprisingly well-seasoned. The hamburger was a good piece of meat and very flavorful, and the spare ribs were my favorite; they fell off the bone. We skipped dessert because we were completely full, so the portion size certainly wasn't an issue. This café is child-friendly, with high chairs available, and the staff is incredibly welcoming! Before we left, my daughter received a little gift; we'll definitely be back!

Het is een erg aantrekkelijke locatie om hier lekker te gaan zitten. Het broodje was oké, prijs kwaliteit was in verhouding.

Wij komen hier al jaren en zijn altijd tevreden over de kaart en het eten. Echter de prijzen zijn meer dan fors gestegen en dat overviel ons. Verder prima personeel en een goede sfeer. De cajunkruiden op de patat zorgt vaak voor veel buikklachten bij verschillende klanten. Tip: vraag om normale patat zonder kruiden.

Delicious food at De Toog at a reasonable price. Now I ate a cheese fondue, it was very tasty. Very noisy in the tent behind the café, one of my tablemates was noisy afterwards.

Today unfortunately not satisfied for the first time. The carpaccio came from the freezer and was still partly frozen, making it watery and tasteless. Hamburger was over 80% raw. The (Fresh) ginger tea had already been pre-chopped earlier today, so it had no taste. The skin was also still around it 🤔, which released even less flavor. Almost everyone at the service was friendly, except for someone who said: "the plates are not heavy". 😂 Tssss...

An example is an egg roll with fries on top. Large portions! You definitely get value for your money here. They're going to see me more here. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. Good service. Always good food and the atmosphere is great. Last time for my husband's 50th birthday. De Toog is happy to contribute to making it a festive moment. We like coming here.

The designation 'diner' does not cover it all. This is simply a super restaurant! I had already surprised myself online about the extensive menu. Great variety (there really is something for everyone). Everything very tasteful and very pleasant and friendly service.

What a nice tent! We were on our bikes and luckily we were able to leave them packed next to it in the alley. A very good price/quality ratio. We had a lovely lunch on the terrace on the Zaan here!

The food here is great, always delicious and more than enough. Wide choice of drinks. The terrace looks a bit uncomfortable in some areas.

It's always a party with Nico and the rest. Ricardo had an orange and wanted a straw. Frank was not there. Brentje was very pleasant and Jeff had eaten everything.

High tea is really not recommended. Slow service, no communication about why the rounds take so long, empty plates were not cleared and the sweet course is not exactly high tea style when everything is served on 1 plate (on top of the dirty plates).

A really top restaurant, we received a friendly welcome, we had not made a reservation but were quickly assigned a table. The friendly waitresses had done their best to fulfill all dishes and wishes. We started with the drinks. The food was prepared in the meantime. The fresh fish of the day had a crispy skin and a delicious mustard sauce to enjoy. We also had the Pesto besto wide ribbon pasta and homemade basil pesto with Parmesan cheese and cream and arugula. Our dessert was a warm homemade brownie with strawberry ice cream balls and whipped cream. We had a wonderful dinner experience. Lively cozy atmosphere with family, couples and children too.

Ended up here by chance yesterday. What a nice nice tent. Top service, pleasant atmosphere, great food. In short, we would like to come here again. Keep it up

waiting 15 minutes is not acceptable you ask for a menu and they tell you it's not there. you can only drink they don't understand English because the menu was there and when they see you leaving, they even say goodbye.
