It's a nice spot by the water in itself, but the food is so-so and the service is terrible, which ruins the entire experience. A shame.

We had a lovely dinner with friends. We were very happy with the service, the wine selection, and the drinks. Wonderful view over the water from our table, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The food was good overall, but I found the combination of some of the courses a bit unusual. For dessert, we were served goat cheese and a popsicle. It gave us a few good laughs around the table, but to be honest, it felt a little odd. 😊 All in all, we had a good time.

Had a delicious meal with colleagues. And what a relief to simply experience genuine hospitality again from the friendly, hardworking kitchen and service staff.

I had to perform here recently. From the outside, it looks as if rusty outboard motors are being tinkered with here, but the contrast with the chic table setting and equally chic clientele suggests that this restaurant is secretly a "best kept secret" discovery among hip Amsterdam.

Waited over an hour for 3 small dishes and some bread as a lunch order on a sunny Sunday. Even the bread couldn't be served with the bottle of rosé I ordered, but it arrived after that long hour. Meanwhile, I had a view of the kitchen where the cook was busy on his phone. Apparently, the order hadn't reached him yet... 2 staff members for about 8 tables, some of which were occupied twice. Tired staff because 'they also had a big party yesterday and hadn't had a break yet'. The chef sort of is busier inside in the shade and occasionally walks a lap around the terrace to refill some wine, but he fails to notice that many tables have to wait a long time. The 'Pata Negra' on the menu turns out to be a simple Parma ham, which borders on a rip-off for almost 15 euros and 6 slices in what looks like pre-packaged Hanos plastic. Just downright bad: either list it as sold out or put on the menu what it really is. The 'short ribs', also for around 15 euros, were meat scraped off 3 spare rib bones, shoved into the hot air oven just a little too short, and that was it. Oh yes, and 8 oysters... no idea who opens them, but it looked like a shrapnel grenade had been used to shell them. Shell flakes everywhere, and in some cases, the oyster crushed by the utility knife: 3.50 apiece for the cheapest kind, but violated and broken open by someone who simply doesn't understand a thing. In the end, you pay over 60 euros for an outright rip-off regarding lunch and a grumpy waitress who gets angry because you ask for your bread after an hour, starts a big argument, and is then not very hospitable. The toilet wasn't clean. Sorry, but with such a beautiful location, this is just not acceptable.

Very disappointing experience. The menu showed a completely different dish from what was actually served, and we weren’t informed of any changes before ordering. When we raised the issue, the staff simply responded, “This is what it is.” Only after insisting multiple times did they agree to take the dish back. The restaurant wasn’t even busy, yet it took an unreasonably long time for our food to arrive. To make matters worse, the food itself was poor quality, bland, and lacked any real flavor. I honestly don’t understand the high ratings. The only thing this place has going for it is its beautiful waterfront location, which makes it a pleasant place to sit. Unfortunately, the food and service were nowhere near the standard the setting suggests.

Me and my friend had a quick bite in Hangar. I ordered a kimchi, cheese sandwich which tasted really good ( 1 piece was already in my stomach i took the photo) There are also tables outside facing the canal which has a good view. We had to go inside doing order, i wasn't sure it was because they're understaffed or something else.

Nice location by the water. Lovely on the terrace in the summer (plenty of shade), but also beautiful in the winter with a view over the IJ. We were there for lunch; I had the wagyu burger, which was very tender and tasty. A generous portion of fries came with it. We chose a virgin cocktail, which was also well-flavored. There was a large group celebrating something, and this location is perfect for that. In terms of noise, however, it was a bit of a downside for the other guests. You could also tell from the service that they were busy.

Bravo to the service, who remained professional and incredibly friendly during a rather challenging evening! A full terrace that fled inside (where it was already busy) and needed a spot: it was simply taken care of. And let's not forget: delicious food!

We had an office party here and the food was really good. Our group was out in one of their rooms and not in their bigger restaurant space but such a great atmosphere right off the water in Amsterdam Noord.

Had a lovely lunch this afternoon! The food was very tasty and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. It was an extra nice touch that my daughter even got to play a song on the piano. Such small gestures really make all the difference. Lovely people, good vibe, and definitely a place to come back to.

In a prime location: view over the IJ. Industry in the background. Beautiful waterside terrace with delicious food. Friendly service. We are very enthusiastic about this place again, so Hangar is highly recommended once more!

The most oily pasta & gamba I haver ever eaten, probably not come again

Bad experience. Let’s start positive with that the food is okay to good quality. But the service 😭🫣. My goodness. From being to order was 30+ minutes, getting the starter 1+ hour and the main almost 2 hours. Understaffed, and the ones that were there were chaotic. There was some senior staff that cared more for their friends than their guests and the lines at the men’s toilet were so long that I simply went to the neighbors restaurant to go to the toilet. Very loud music which clearly upset some guests. On top, one guy literally fell with his chair through the floor and all the staff said was… let us check that crack in the floor later on (no apologies to the poor guy). Very weird place

What a disaster, just ate there on Whit Monday, terrible service, staff don't know what they're doing, kitchen as slow as can be, ordered vitello with veal, incredibly salty to share... then ordered a Caesar salad, didn't come after 50 minutes, so cancelled... half the menu unavailable, 60% of starters unavailable, dessert sold out... never experienced anything like it, a TOTAL DISASTER!

Everything was outstanding. Starting, of course, with the food, and continuing with the service, music, decor, and ambiance. Impossible to forget. Delicious food cooked over wood embers. Meat, fish, vegetables… everything infused with that smoky flavor. We stumbled upon this place by chance. Edy, who I believe is the owner, was setting up the place. It was 6:00 PM. He invited us in… and from then on, everything was perfect. And we ate! Boy, did we eat and drink! A very good selection of French, Italian, and Spanish wines. Extremely attentive service. Everything was a 10/10. We truly had a spectacular afternoon/evening. A full four hours. Needless to say, we felt very comfortable. “Edy, it’s a shame we couldn’t share that glass of mezcal, because in a rush we caught the last ferry to Amsterdam Central Station.” Thank you for your attention. That mezcal is still pending. Thank you!

Enjoy the view, food, and drinks by the water in a relaxed atmosphere. And company, of course. The hangar has an industrial look, but with a warm/cozy touch. Tim and team, you have created something beautiful here!

We found this place randomly and We were very satisfied with the host, stuff and especially the place /location of this restaurant. When the weather is great, it is worth to go for a dinner to see the Amsterdam city from anotherside of the river. In this location in some way You can feel like in a movie :) Food was very delicious. Those who write lese than 4* have to understand where are they going and what they have to expect there. There is not a place where You eat volumes of food or calories. There is a place where You taste magic of food mixing secretes and enjoy the vibe all around it. In my honest opinion every € spent there was worth. P.S in photo attachement is a started of Buratta. Yet it is the best cold started I have ever tasted.

We came with the family to have a dinner here. We were welcomed well, the host was kind. For the food, the food was tasty (for some dishes) but not a lot of food for the high prices. I ordered a steak and it was so small for 27 euros (without a side dish, the fries was 6€ extra). 2 persons took the 'pasta aspergus & she'll fish' but the pasta was not well cooked (possibly prepared in big quantity in advance and reheat in microwave), and with almost no shell fish in the dish... (really small few pieces). As well we waited for the food more than hour to receive the main dish. But what was good in the dish: côte de bœuf was good (not crazy but good), and the tuna tartare really good seasoning, same for gambas. The service was ok, the place didn't have enough waitress so they had to be quick and that made it feel less comfortable (running everywhere, really long time before ordering, receive food). The area is beautiful (in front of the canal) but unfortunately not good mood/atmosphere to have a nice dinner.

We've been coming here for years, but this time was truly terrible. The service was slow, and we had to wait over an hour for our main course. Unfortunately, it wasn't up to par. As compensation, we were offered dessert on the house, but the kitchen was already closed, so the selection was very limited. I sent an email afterward, but unfortunately, I didn't receive a response. We won't be back anytime soon.

I tried to arrange dinner at Hangar with my company. The group wasn't too large, and the atmosphere looked good. Unfortunately, I was strung along and got the feeling they weren't interested in us coming to dinner. I called first, and was told only one person caters to large groups and would call me back, but that never happened. I called again, and yes, she wasn't there, so I emailed her. I emailed, and another week without a response. Then I called again, and I wasn't warmly greeted and told off for being busy because of the Sailing season, so I had to email again. I visited during the Sailing season; yes, busy, I only read the email on Tuesday. No way. Unfortunately, and a real shame, we weren't allowed to come for dinner.

A cozy restaurant with very friendly staff. The view over the water is also fantastic. It was especially fun watching all the boats and ships sail by when we were sailing. The food was delicious, so we'll definitely be back.

The sailing event with Brut de Mer was a complete joke. Dietary requirements were communicated, but nothing was done about them. The staff couldn't tell if anything contained pork. We had to wait an hour before any food was served. And then it was pork... half the menu I didn't dare eat, and the other half was truly subpar. Simply not tasty. The Brut de Mer served with only a wooden skewer? It made it impossible to eat the crab claws properly... the staff said they had nothing but the wooden skewers. Absolutely ridiculous. And then the evening turned into a boomer party for the owner. Very awkward and inappropriate. Not everyone is looking forward to that. His name is Tim, by the way, and he was thanked a hundred times by the singer. No idea why, because he just stood there with a cigarette and a glass of wine or scroppino, ordering his staff around 20 cm from our table. Very bizarre and unprofessional. Not recommended. Please spend your money elsewhere.

That was a nightmare experience! We booked a table based on their Sail Fest promotion, which promised a nice view of the water, a relaxing atmosphere, and delicious food. We received none of that. If we hadn’t already paid more than €80 per person in advance, we would have left as soon as we saw our table. Instead of a water view, we were placed far away, stuck between the grill area and the music stage, where it was so loud we couldn’t even hear ourselves. We waited half an hour just to receive the menu. The food was terrible, and even after I clearly ordered a non-alcoholic mocktail several times (being visibly pregnant), they brought me an alcoholic drink! This was the worst dining experience I’ve had in Amsterdam. Don’t give them any money in advance , it’s basically a scam. Our evening was completely ruined, and we didn’t even wait for the last meal to arrive before leaving

We had booked the SAIL package. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was very disappointing. We also found it unsatisfactory. The seafood platter came without any utensils, so everyone had to hit the back of the crab with a knife, as advised by the waiter. It was also very tasteless, and only some mayonnaise was served as a dressing. The food was also mostly cold. The event's decor was cozy, although heaters would have been a good idea. All in all, not what we expected given the associated costs (85 euros per person, excluding drinks, for 7 dishes and a scroppino; we went home hungry).

Being terrified that someone might use your restroom and then referring everyone to nearby restaurants. If you think you can create an exclusive atmosphere or something like that, you've certainly achieved it!

We were going to Sail and end the day with a nice dinner by the water. "Restaurant" de Hangaar had put together a lovely menu. So we made a reservation for the 8-11 pm time slot. The full amount for the menu had to be paid in advance. In retrospect, I completely understand the reasoning behind this. If I hadn't already paid, I probably would have left after a nearly impossible attempt to order a drink. The service: lovely people, but it was clear they had no training in the hospitality industry. That's true in many restaurants, of course. However, the quality of the product you offer to guests increases your pride and passion for a hospitality business. That clearly wasn't the case here. The feedback we gave about the food was passed on by the service to the kitchen, and that's where it ended. My girlfriend personally approached the manager and literally brought him to our table so we could discuss the quality of the meat dish that had just been presented. Three types of meat and a Citroën. Prepared according to a new method. "Cold off the grill." According to the manager, it should have been hot. So he resolved the issue by getting a new plate with cold meat again. I almost forgot to mention something positive. The online reservation system had a space for dietary requests, so we took advantage of that. However, this was completely ignored. Given the price of 170 euros for a dinner for two, I expected something of quality, but I would have definitely been happy with a Wopper from Burger King.

DO NOT book or pay here in advance. The lackadaisical attitude regarding the quality of the food and the mentality of the kitchen and manager reeks of "don't care, we've already made our money." A self-respecting chef wouldn't tarnish their reputation with such incompetent management of this establishment. The waitstaff is young and inexperienced, but friendly. They show dedication, but the basic equipment and attitude of the kitchen and manager are so poor that no amount of good will can compensate. They were deeply moved by our feedback after each course. The waitstaff's response: "We've indeed had other complaints; I shared your feedback with the kitchen, but they looked at me strangely." We shared this observation with the manager, who listened with indifference and swapped one plate of cold, lukewarm meat for another. Absolutely no effort was made to genuinely improve anything. The feedback on the dishes: "Fruit de mer comes first. No appetizers as listed on the menu." It consists solely of shellfish and crustaceans. Mostly dried out, the crab and lobster legs are uncracked or only partially cracked, and there's no cracker with the dish. So, a lot of good meat is thrown away. Only then do two mini-dishes arrive simultaneously (the reservation stated three, but the third was never seen). One of them still has a piece of rind that's impossible to chew or swallow. Then comes an overcooked paella with several identical shellfish – not tasty. The reservation stated low-carb. No consideration was given. No alternatives whatsoever. Only after mentioning it twice is the suggestion made to double the next course (pointed cabbage). This was the least bad of all the courses. Then comes the meat course. Dried and poorly cleaned chicken, slightly lukewarm on the outside, cold on the inside. The beef was also cold. No improvement with the exchange. As a customer, you're essentially stuck because the full amount had already been paid at the time of reservation. This is the first time in my life I've considered leaving without paying the bill (just for drinks). And afterward, I actually regret having paid it. And red wine by the glass is only available as Merlot with a menu that's grossly overpriced. In short, everything is subpar, except for a few friendly but powerless young waitstaff. The owner and chef, who are running the place like this, don't deserve this incredibly beautiful location. This is where people with a passion for their craft should be able to express their talents.

Reserved a table outside at Sail In. Called twice to ask if there would be a view of the boats. Sure enough, tall ships sail past here. That was a lie. Had a lovely day but didn't see a boat!

Wednesday night at Sail we had a fantastic evening with great live music that perfectly matched the atmosphere. The menu was delicious, with a wonderful amount of fish, and the highlight for me was the pointed cabbage! I never thought I'd enjoy it so much... A fantastic evening!

Ordered chicken thighs but got chicken legs, the entrecote was all but gone. The bread arrived at the same time as the main course. The steak was gone. And the coffee was very lukewarm. Never again.

What an unforgettable day at the Hangar! We started our wedding celebration in a special way: we arrived by boat, while our guests were waiting for us on the dock in the sunshine with a welcome cocktail. A beautiful sight and a magical start to the evening. Then we enjoyed a delicious three-course dinner on the terrace. The setting was stylish and atmospheric – we received so many compliments about both the food and the decorations. After that, the party really got going… and what a party it was! A fantastic party that we will never forget. From the moment we talked to Joley about getting married at the Hangar, it felt right. She was incredibly helpful, thought through everything, and made us feel like anything was possible. The result truly exceeded all our expectations. The Hangar was the perfect location for the most beautiful day of our lives!

Hangar seemed to us the best place for a bite and a drink on a warm Friday night. Unfortunately that was absolutely not the case. This restaurant does not understand anything: My negroni (13 euros) was not a negroni but some kind of cocktail mix from a cocktail machine. You could see that and you could certainly taste it. Cocktail sent back... We got 2 free Gin tonics in return, so we were satisfied again. Then our main courses arrived. My entrecote was nothing more than a sad and lonely piece of meat. Not even a small carrot to make it look somewhat attractive. My girlfriend's risotto was not cooked! We called the manager and he said it was al dente. Then he took a bite himself and admitted that "it could have been cooked a bit longer". We handed in our dishes and went somewhere else to eat a pizza. In short, definitely go to Hangar for a glass of wine/beer in the sun; small bites are also fine. But definitely don't go there for the kitchen and skip the "cocktails" too. You might as well buy cans of cocktail mix in the supermarket. Rarely experienced such a bad kitchen, while it was still completely fine half a year ago. The bizarre thing is that almost all the staff was not at all surprised that we sent our food AND drinks back. It was clear that we were not the first/only ones with complaints. So perhaps a tough day... Let's hope so

Reservation cancelled just like that! I received a phone call from a Hangar employee with the message that my reservation had been cancelled. This came as a great surprise to me, as I had already made the reservation a week ago. I am very disappointed with the way the reservation was cancelled at the last minute. With a double booking, one would expect to receive an upgrade, instead of a cancellation. I find this an unacceptable way of So if you book here, you are not guaranteed a table.

Food was ok-ish. Chicken from charcoal was black and not too much taste. A sauce with it would help a lot. Fries were good. Staff was trying their best and obviously working hard however too little people available both in the kitchen and the terrace.

Highly recommended! Nice food by the water. Good menu Friendly staff Great background music! And honestly... Food was perfect! Especially the prawns pil pil They were super fresh, you could taste the sea, no frozen stuff. The boneless ribs are super soft and don't have that heavy pork flavor that ribs often have.. The entrecote with cognac pepper sauce was also very tasty, the meat was soft and had a light smoky flavor. The vegetable risotto was also tasty but very rich... I was already full after the 5th bite.. Maybe I would have preferred the risotto in a smaller bowl as a side dish instead of fries or something. Because at some point the taste becomes a bit monotonous with every bite. But again, everything is great! Recommended: The P-Martini is really tasty here!

Went here last weekend, and had a really unbelievably bad experience. Apparently nothing is going well, because literally everyone is grumpy, from the service to the chefs. The food, really too disgusting for words. The location is so special, that it hurts to have to see how such an incapable team has to completely squander it. Such a shame that after something is designated in the city, it cannot also be adhered to democratically that quality is also delivered to the citizens of Amsterdam. Because please, if you can't run a business, make room for other talent that can't wait to realize a dream and put a smile on the faces of guests. A crying shame.

Hadn't been for a long time due to... move, but clearly different owner and/or chef. My hamburger was still very red on the inside and I was horrified by that, so I asked if it could be put back on the grill. I got it back and unfortunately it was still just as red. Overall impression was little interest in customers and therefore little service. This location must be doing very well. Comment from the staff "that's how a hamburger should be, but yes if you don't like it". Too bad because it's a great place.

Lovely place for drinks by the water. Love it

On a Thursday evening we went to the tent to enjoy an 8-course menu “By the fire”. All dishes were made on/with the BBQ. Wow, that was an evening of fully enjoying all the delicious food: from avocado, salmon, piri piri chicken, pointed cabbage to pineapple and coconut ice cream. The stove was burning, the view was great and the wines tasted delicious. What a beautiful evening!

Had dinner here with friends last night and highly recommended!!! It was chilly outside, but nice and warm inside, wonderful atmosphere and super friendly service. The food is really finger licking good. The three oysters with different topping and the fish of the day and dessert. All equally tasty and prepared and served with love. Not everyday wines, such as a white Rioja. In short, let yourself be pampered in the Hangar!

Hangar Amsterdam-Noord; North is such a contrast to the center and we always feel at ease at the Hangar; hospitable, no-nonsense, perfect service, good quality food & drinks at a good price and parking in front of the door. A pleasure to visit in all seasons, but with nice weather just that little bit more with the water and the 'encampment' takes you into different atmospheres

Went when it was most quiet, delicious lunch and no downsides to be found. The atmosphere is really nice, also fun to be able to look into the kitchen!
