I had an amazing experience! Visiting this place felt like a little trip to Egypt full of beautiful details that everyone loves. The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was an absolute masterpiece. I totally recommend it!

The hawawshi was sour and didn’t taste good like it does in Egypt, it even made us feel sick afterwards. The food is also not fresh, everything is frozen or pre-made.. the vibes of the restaurant and service were nice though

Okay, let's start with the concept, the music was great and authentic. The food was really not good. The hawawshi was too greasy, the bun was burnt, the bottom was super wet with grease, the meat wasn't cooked through and was still rare, or raw. The meat tasted like nothing. It said it had 16 spices, but I only tasted salt and pepper, nothing more. It was absolutely inedible. The salad, well, you don't call it a salad, just spicy spices, no sauce, and the iceberg lettuce, which wasn't cut, was tasteless and so spicy that you simply didn't taste anything afterward. All in all, there's just a lot of room for improvement. I personally wouldn't recommend it, but hey, that's what people like. I won't even mention the toilet; it's just not good.

I ordered the Hawaiian ribeye today. It turned out to be absolutely not ribeye, but ground beef. The meat also had a sour taste. As a side dish, I received an uncut piece of lettuce ("lettuce butt"), which seemed very unprofessional. I hadn't eaten this badly in a long time, and I even ended up with a stomach ache. Very disappointing. The nasty sour aftertaste lingered for hours.

Yesterday we ordered food from Hawawsi Amsterdam for the first time. The service was incredibly friendly and the location is beautiful. My Egyptian partner felt completely at home. The food was delicious. We had Hawawsi and Egyptian fattah. The lamb was delicious and fell off the bone, and the rice with sauce and bread was excellent. The Hawawsi is beautifully seasoned. We will definitely be back.

The food is amazing it took me back to Egypt , I felt like I am back home. The atmosphere is great and the vibes that the place gives, ancient Egyptian music, pictures and decorations . The owner is sooooo friendly , welcoming. I was there the day before yesterday and I did enjoyed and also my friend loved the food . Usually it is hard to find a restaurant that we all agree on it as we are a group from different cultures, but this one got us Very recommended

Only egyptian restaurant in the city that sells authentic egyptian food. I was really surprised by how good the food was. The staff is committed and really take care of their work. They give good service and make sure you have a good experience.

It was delicious, the atmosphere was great, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, they played nice music by Oem Kaltoum, and I especially loved the steak with melted cheese! Highly recommended! Oh, and we were served very quickly! 15 minutes after ordering, we were already enjoying our meal, which I always find very important. :-)

It’s always a great experience to enjoy hawawshi’s soul food. Everything is made with love and the service is top tier! I personally recommend the baba ghannoush and the chicken pita (hawawshi). Flavourish, warm, comforting, simply delicious. They also serve Egyptian coffee and desserts. Big big recommendation! And they’re open until midnight which is a biiiig plus.

As an Egyptian, I was excited to try this restaurant hoping for authentic Egyptian food, but unfortunately it was far from genuine. The dishes did not resemble real Egyptian flavors or preparation, and everything tasted very bland and uninspired. What made things worse was the poor hygiene. I truly appreciate and support restaurants that try to bring Egyptian cuisine to the world, but authenticity and cleanliness are the bare minimum. Unfortunately, this place failed on both. However, I want to mention that the atmosphere and service were really good, with old Egyptian music playing, which I genuinely enjoyed. I hope the owners take this feedback seriously and improve the quality, authenticity, and hygiene.

Unique taste with high quality ingredients, great care for details and hygiene, and nice ambient music. The portion sizes are generous considering the prices, and the richness of spices in each dish is delightful. The rice dessert is sweet and light, and goes well with the fresh hibiscus juice they serve. I also appreciate the possibility of having a smaller cheaper quality meal and a more complete assortment of meat, veggies and rice when the hunger takes over. As a demanding customer in terms of meat sandwiches, I consider this in my top 3 sandwich places ever.

Not recommended. I went there for a quick lunch in the middle of a hectic day. I was the only customer, but after taking my order and the payment, the chef owner disappeared into the kitchen to pray instead of preparing my food. I ended up waiting about 35 minutes before he came back. When the food finally arrived, it wasn’t tasty at all and honestly not worth the money. A very disappointing experience.

Middle eastern/Egypte type of food, mainly for take away as the restaurant itself is not very nice. The babaganoush was pretty good, the pita’s good but nog special. Next I would try some menu.

I like the ribeye hawawshi. The rice menu with meat is also nice, coming with such a big portion.

I had to wait 25 minutes for a single hawawshi, while the rest of the restaurant was empty. The bread was burnt, and for the price, you get very little. It wasn't fresh either; I think it was taken from the back of a freezer. The filling was half soggy, half chewy, and tasted more like ground beef than rib-eye. The otherwise friendly gentleman didn't speak Dutch or English very well, which was a bit of a challenge.

Unfortunately, one star, and that's for the hibiscus drink, which was quite good. We ordered a rib-eye and chicken hawawshi, and it was a huge disappointment. It had been on our list for a while after seeing it on Instagram. The reason: the hawawshi bread was literally burnt. The roll tasted like a mishmash of mostly onions and too many spices. After hours, I still had a strange aftertaste. The rib-eye tasted like ground meat. Because the employee doesn't speak Dutch, it was also difficult to ask for anything. The tables and chairs weren't clean either, which already makes you less hungry. It's a shame, I hope they do something about it.

I traveled all the way from Denmark to Amsterdam with a friend who is Egyptian. Since there are no Egyptian restaurants in Denmark, we were excited to finally try some authentic Egyptian food, and Hawashi seemed like the obvious choice. The restaurant is small and located a bit outside the city center. The staff member we met was very friendly, kind, and service-minded. Communication was easy since we spoke Arabic, which made us feel welcome at first. However, our experience quickly turned disappointing. When we asked to use the restroom, we were directed to a toilet in the backyard. The area smelled rotten, there was trash everywhere, and the toilet itself smelled strongly of urine. There was no hand soap available, which made us uncomfortable considering we had to touch several door handles before getting back to the restaurant, where there finally was a sink with soap. When the food arrived, things got worse. The hawashi was advertised as being made with ribeye, but instead it was just minced meat. The bread was soggy, the meat was raw inside, and it tasted sour and old. We also ordered another meat dish, but what we got was mostly bones with a small side of rice. Everything tasted suspicious, and we stopped eating after just a few bites. It also became clear that the food was pre-made and simply reheated in an oven. We noticed that the food was stored uncovered in buffet trays and only covered with plastic wrap, which raised serious concerns about hygiene and food safety. In the end, we left the restaurant regretting our decision to eat there. We thought we were getting a cheap meal, but after comparing prices in Amsterdam, we realized that this was actually very expensive given the poor quality, unhygienic facilities, and overall experience. On our 10-hour drive back to Copenhagen, we both felt unwell and suffered from indigestion. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had.

Hawawshi had been on my list for a while, after I discovered it in Cairo last year. We went specifically to try their hawawshi. The staff was friendly, but didn't speak Dutch or English, making communication difficult. We ordered the beef hawawshi. After the first bite, I immediately noticed something was off: the meat had a sour taste, as if it wasn't fresh or even spoiled. Therefore, we decided not to eat any more and left. Afterward, I also noticed that the restaurant was completely empty during lunchtime—probably for good reason. One small positive: those who visit the restrooms do get an authentic downtown Cairo experience.

I am egyptian in a work-visit to Amsterdam. I convinced my colleague to order from here. I didn’t find the authentic egyptian taste that i used for. The hawawshi sandwich ( meat and chicken) where super salty and the original taste has been lost in this salt. Besides, the dessert Om Ali, was not good at all, it had after taste like cheese instead of heavy cream, the worst i tried in my life.

Hawawshi rib eye and chicken was huge disappointment, it was super salty and burning hot. I really eat everything but this was bad. Food is like fuel for me but this was idk…

What a great discovery! Authentic Egyptian hawawshi as you would only expect in Cairo. The bread was crispy on the outside and richly filled with perfectly seasoned meat on the inside. The flavors were intense and unique, truly a taste. An absolute must for anyone who loves authentic Middle Eastern food. I will definitely be back!

I saw the sign out outside, how could you pass a sandwich like this up. I ordered the rib eye Hawawshi to go. It was out in appropriate time. Was a tasty treat while waiting for the tram. There was a distinct herb within the hawawshi that gave it distinct taste unique to this food. Definitely a repeat visit eatery. Please be a little more careful placing the food in the bag as mine was upside down.

Sick from the food, very bad hygiene behind the scenes, waiting time 30+ min for take away. ‘Ribeye’ is greasy minced meat, pita bread is soggy because it’s drowning in grease. Poor ventilation and loud music. Friendly people though.

A very tidy but beautiful and great place to eat. Traditional Egyptian food with alot of options. We went for the hawawshi but ended up ordering more. The owner had a great service towards us and was really kind to us and our mother, even giving taste test before we order and patiently explaining the story behind the food. We also chose the Egyptian special which contained lamb meat and rice and the portion was beautiful and reallllyy filling, so it's worth the price

The food has nothing to do with Egyptian males only the name I'm myself from Egypt..it needs some on really specialized in that kind of street food .. people who work there is on from India and another one out Syria they have no clue of what they are doing...the prices also very expensive 🫰🫰🫰...one time try never again

Pita was burnt. Taste of dish sour-bitter. Waiting time 12 minutes. The cook/owner seemed to give cigarette smoking priority over preparing the order. This spot falls into the category of clean-Gen-Z diners who are trying to make success with styling and as-if authenticity. Has little to do with good food.

We were there today, very bad food. We couldn't take more than one bite. The macaroni with Bashamel was so old and was not edible either. Change dish was Hawawshi and I don't know it but it was so bad that we couldn't swallow either. So disappointed, we left the food without eating and paid around 46 euros.

Nice atmosphere, but overpriced for Egyptian street food. I didn’t mind paying a higher price, expecting quality that would remind me of home—but it was a disappointment. The food didn’t taste fresh, as if it had been prepared days earlier, and the meat had a strange taste. Definitely not worth the price.

This place knows how to do hawawshi right. Crunchy bread, juicy meat, full of spice and flavor. The people. Super friendly, welcoming, and fast. You feel taken care of from the second you walk in ! Highly recommended

No advice at all I swear they spent days and months on the food, and they put spices and hot sauce on it, so that you don't feel the taste of the food. I swear to God, my husband and his stomach are tired since we ate until now, and I have no rest, and I am allergic to chili and many spices. They brought me a dish to improve the situation and produce more chili. We have a plane in the morning and I don't know what to do

This is the spot on Kinkerstraat for a real Egyptian restaurant👌 The owner of this wonderful place makes everything himself and puts all his love and passion into it. Before I came here, I was not familiar with this cuisine, but wow, this is delicious. We went for the Egyptian menu, all the trimmings. The service is very good, and the atmosphere is super accessible. At Hawawshi they really take you into the culture and how it should be eaten. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

This was €22.50. “Ribeye” hawawshi, which indeed resembled minced meat in taste, small side dish, sauce and one drink. Amsterdam prices? No, just absurd. There are also other (cheaper) prices online. So you get that side of the Egyptian experience here. The music is indeed very loud, employees flee to the back as soon as they can. Service is also low, because everything had to be asked twice. Atmosphere gets 3 stars because you don't necessarily have to sit inside with the smell and loud music.
