Fantastic Food. Very helpful staff. Great atmosphere with soft music in the backround. Reasonable prices. Sustainable way of thinking. We had mixed injera, and they were mouth-watering and fulfilling. Will revisit to try more plates

Eventhough the place is small, it is really cozy with different decorations. The vibe was really nice. The food is okay as I tried other African cuisines before. The service of the waiter is really appreciated as he needs to attend all the tables and explains about the dishes but it comes with slowness. One advice is to reserve the seats before going.( response to the comment from owner- three star rating is given because of food. After having the food, I got bad stomach pain which was not expected. Now I have take out that appreciation as well)

Off the beaten track Ethiopian gem. Totally authentic, wonderfully delicious, made fresh for your plate, with a fantastic vegan range, so there's really no need to eat meat. However, the lamb is really delicious, so if you're a part-time vegan, take the evening off. If you haven't tried this kind of food, you definitely should. You eat it with injera, this spongy rubbery slightly sour flatbread that tastes so much better than it sounds. Finger-licking lekker. And yeah, it's not always swamped with tourists. But sometimes it is. So book.

Sympathiek restaurantje op loopafstand (10 minuten) van Artis, dat daar al zo'n 30 jaar gevestigd is. Met ons vriendengroepje hier neergestreken. Leuk idee om eens wat verder te kijken dan de directe omgeving bij die mooie dierentuin in onze hoofdstad. Zo hadden we een paar gezellige uren en kozen gezamenlijk voor een Mixed injera (check de menukaart) zodat we met onze "10 geboden" de schotels deelden. Omdat we met ons zessen waren, besloten we dit gerecht voor 5 personen te bestellen dat ruim voldoende was. Dat werd ook bevestigd door de vriendelijke medewerker die alles kundig uitserveerde. Ook bestond de mogelijkheid om voor een meer pittige variant te kiezen. Maar wij gaven aan dat de meesten van ons dat niet graag wilden (en ik persoonlijk daar niet tegen kan). Helaas bleek dat sommige stews, die onderdeel uitmaken van de Mixed injera, sowieso van een behoorlijk pittig gehalte waren en dat was jammer, voornamelijk voor mij want mijn tafelgenoten hadden daar minder last van. Blijft gezegd dat we het vooral super gezellig hadden, maar dat o.a. ik de verhouding prijs/kwaliteit (Injera per persoon € 21!). voor het gebodene niet in verhouding vind. Helaas voor mij geen volgend bezoek aan dit vriendelijke, kleine zaakje op het Rapenburgerplein...

Amazing food, friendly waiter, nice atmosphere, interesting decor. Would recommend the Mafe (beef stew), which was just delicious, not too spicy but very tasty. A great choice of dishes from many different African countries.

Hi!! The food was super tasty, I also really enjoyed the juices and tea :) staff was very friendly. For the quality and quantity that was just delivered, the price could be higher. The overall atmosphere was relaxed, I almost fell down the stairs when I came back up from the toilet, but that was because of the platforms under my uggs. The appearance of the place was very warm/cosy. Anyways thank you I enjoyed it and will 100% come back!!:) Gem of 020

What a delicious meal we had! Mixed Injera with freshly squeezed Tamarind juice. The boy who served us the food gets a 10! He provides very good service, a winner!

La comida etíope era verdaderamente única y también ofrecía platos veganos, que personalmente estaba muy contento y convencido! Los pequeños platos de verduras / pastas (en combinación con el pan añadido) eran increíblemente llenos y la forma de comer a mano fue una experiencia única! ¡Una recomendación clara de mi parte!

Stopped by spontaneously after a long day of sightseeing and actually got a seat. Very nice service and very attentive. The food was delicious, if we are in Amsterdam again we would love to come back!

I wanted something delicious before going to a work event because I didn’t want to eat a bunch of pizza, and this was waaay better than I could’ve imagined — the mixed plate was so delicious Favorite meal in Amsterdam so far!

Food was good, BUT... the service, ordering, getting a menu etc. goes extremely slow. Firstly we didn't get our starters. Good that i said it in the end, otherwise the waiter would have put it on the bill. We were lucky that there was only 1 table besides us occupied when we arrived, we waited at least 45 minutes for our main course to come while we had something to share. Lastly.. the waiter was eyeballing me the WHOLE time, it was very uncomfortable to be honoust. I would come back for the food but not for the rest.. and especially not for the waiter.

I had a delicious meal here yesterday with a group of colleagues. Very friendly service. Nice menu with, at least for me, also lesser-known African dishes and everything freshly prepared for reasonable prices. And that has been the case for 30 years!

One of the best or the best African restaurant in Amsterdam. You can find an African Menu with dishes from Kenia to West Africa an then you have also the ethiopian menu (That's wonderfull). Go and visit them, you will not be dissapointed!!

The ambiance and music is really on point. Not too strong to make it harder for you to speak nor too soft that it fades into the background. Service was great! Kinda quick tbh for so many things on the menu. Make a reservation to avoid the hassle of waiting outside. The food was delicious but very little offering. No chicken so only 1 lamb and rest all beef curries. In veg there are 5 I assume. Great teas and coffee! Their fig dessert is delicious too! Would definitely go again.

This small but perfectly lovely restaurant offer diners a variety of dishes from the African continent. So expect an eclectic menu including the drinks listing. Excellent portion sizes, so go hungry to enjoy a good food plate. Service knowledgeable and helpful with lesser known dishes. Background music adds a nice touch to the ambiance. Price wise very reasonable for the quality and quantity of what was served up. Would recommend…

I’ve been to this restaurant multiple times and savoured different dishes. Everything I tried so far was exquisite. Also, the waitstaff is welcoming and happy to give suggestions. Perfect place to share an abundant meal with your family and friends.

The food was very delicious and very different from what you normally eat. We are tourist from Denmark so traditional African food is not something we know alot about but the staff was nice and recommend us a great selection of Ethiopian food and beers.

De bediening is heel vriendelijk. Het eten was te gewoon van smaak. Ik ga wel vaker Ethiopisch / Senegalees/.. eten. Maar het is de eerste keer dat ik niet overweldigd ben door de smaken in mijn mond. Spijtig maar zeker geen aanrader.

Wat een geweldige tent! Toevallig na een drankje bij café De Druif deze plek opgemerkt en ik ben blij dat ik er binnen ben gegaan. Lekker authentiek eten en oh ja met de handen! Een dikke pluim ook voor de bediening. De Nederlandse jongen deed alles om mij op mijn gemak te doen voelen en was zeer behulpzaam!

Een knusse tent met heerlijk eten. Je hebt verschilde Ethiopische en andere Afrikaanse gerechten. Wij zijn nog elke keer voor de mix gegaan. Dan krijg je van alles wat. Dit deden we dan voor 4 personen op 1 grote schaal. Erg gezellig en leuk om zo met z'n allen te eten, lekker met je handen :) De service was top! De ober was attent en meedenkend 👍🏻

Lovely restaurant with a cozy, warm atmosphere. This is a restaurant I always recommend to my friends and family visiting Amsterdam and everyone loves it. The food is so delicious! The vegan mix injera is my favourite, you get to try a lot of flavours. A big plus for the price quality ratio and that gluten free injera is available, if requested the day before. Plus, the staff is very kind, always having a nice chat. Finishing off with tasty ethiopian coffee and the cake of the day, you can spend a good while to enjoy the vibes here.

Incredible food, great price - only needed one main course for the two of us (and a third person with a smaller appetite could’ve joined and it would still have been plenty of food), the chef came up to us to tell us she’d recommend starting with one main course as she thought two would be way too much and we would waste food. She was right and we were grateful she told us beforehand!

Absolutely delightful! This hole-in-the-wall African restaurant delivers unique and delicious flavors from across Africa. I could not have enjoyed my meal more. The traditional Egyptian lamb soup (spicy) exceeded expectations and paired well with the soothing home-made honey beverage. The peanut-based beef stew also did not disappoint. Note that the pace of service at this cozy restaurant is slow by design. My meal took 2.5 hours and that was just fine. This is a great spot for a date, conversation, and people watching. When the weather is good, there is outside seating. The restaurant is deservedly popular. To avoid a long wait, arrive when they open.

However, the lamb is so delicious here that it's almost worth the inevitable destruction of the human race that unchecked meat consumption and animal agriculture represent. Although I'm sure that the animals that died for Kili were happy to sacrifice themselves. Actually, I'm not sure about that in all honesty. Let's move on.
