Food was great, but what kind of business makes you pay to use the restroom when you are a customer, just because "it's Amsterdam"..

Unclear prices for the salad plates, long waiting time for unclear reason and the pizza was not even well cooked…

Horrible place. The staff didn't even greet us; we had to find our own cutlery. A pea soup, which cost an outrageous €6, tasted of plastic. The same goes for the second-floor seat with a lackluster view of the wall of the building next door. And if the awful food really has to come out, you have to pay for the restrooms. I would never come back here.

This place means so much to us. We first came here 16 years ago, then kept coming back every couple of years, always grabbing our favorite treats. It’s been in our hearts all this time, and we’ll definitely be back again. This place just warms the soul.

Went in on Monday the 13th of October to have lunch. Asked the lady by the soup station if the soup would be ready soon. She did not even acknowledge us, or look up, just said NO. Extremely rude, so we just left. It's a shame as the food is good there, but some of the staff - terrible.

Pizza was great, the woman helping us too. Sadly the man who seemed to be manager. Dressed in a white shirt was snapping his fingers at workers and talking to them quite unpleasantly. Definitely got the ick from that. For the rest positive and recommendation, maybe that man just needs to be humbled for a bit😉

Very good burgers, the potato casserole and the fried mushrooms were also great, good value for money, very cozy and friendly. I'd be happy to go back. A visit is always worth it.

Expensive for what it offers. A small bowl of tomato soup and a mini salad plate cost 15 euros. Very inconvenient, with a lot of steep stairs to climb.

The service at this restaurant was very disappointing. The staff seemed to completely ignore guests and gave the impression that preparing an order was doing us a favor rather than their job. Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed everything else. Because of this, our overall experience was negative, and we will not be returning to this restaurant.

It couldn't be slower. They prepare mountains of baskets out front. And no one bothers to serve you. A 30-minute wait for a quarter of a pizza. We gave up.

One of the self-service places in Amsterdam, where you can choose from sandwiches, vegetables, meat and much more. In short, a very large place in Amsterdam and even when it is crowded, the space allows for excellent accessibility.

We came here twice to eat sandwiches for breakfast. The cheese and bread tasted good. They use quality products. We paid 25 Euros for 2 sandwiches, cheese, bread, fruit juice and tea.

Arrived at 10:00 AM for breakfast. The food wasn't great. I had a ham sandwich with honey and mustard sauce. The sandwich itself was dry, the ham was just thrown on top, and the lettuce was also old. My girlfriend had a caramel iced coffee. The coffee was just water with coffee flavor or something. The caramel wasn't noticeable in the flavor. Visually, it looked good, but the taste wasn't the best. It was very overpriced. The yogurt with fruit was €7.95 for a large, and it was still too small.

I often have lunch here with great soup and vegetable salad. Self-service so no waiting time. Upstairs you can sit by the window and enjoy the view of the Rokin and the Turfmarkt.

I have been a loyal customer for the past 15 years, and only today I found out about an unfair new charge (0.80 euro) to get to the toilet, even when you are a customer. When I tried to get an explanation, they told me that the toilet is not their toilet. But it's inside their business, and there are clear signs on how to get there. Pathetic.

Buffet food with a wide variety and very reasonable prices for the area. The restaurant is impressive, well-decorated, and very comfortable. A great find, no doubt. The third floor is well worth a visit.

We stumbled upon this place by accident and we actually loved it. It is like a school canteen, you go round and you choose what you want to take and you pay accordingly at the cashier. We loved the available options and everything was very tasty.

Absolutely terrible experience. The service at La Place in Amsterdam was downright rude. Staff acted like we were a burden just for asking how things work — whether it’s self-service, where to pay, or where to sit. The food stations were scattered randomly across the place with barely any signs, and 90% of the labels were only in Dutch, despite being in a tourist-heavy area. When we asked for help, they simply ignored us or brushed us off with attitude. Felt completely unwelcome and disrespected as a customer. Avoid this place if you value even basic courtesy or clear communication.

I had lunch at La Place recently. The food was really tasty and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. The staff were super friendly and helpful, which made the whole experience really nice. The only downside is that it’s a bit on the expensive side for what you actually get.

What a crappy place! I order 2x a Classic chicken burger. I get fries separately, for which I suddenly have to pay €7.70 extra. During preparation, the employee let a piece of chicken burn, then put a new piece on the plate, but then she still put the burnt piece on our burger! She couldn't handle the barbecue with two customers, let alone if there were ten. When I indicated at the cash register that I hadn't ordered fries, she didn't understand at all.

We were in this establishment, it's atmospheric, clean, everything is beautifully decorated, but... I chose a hot dog for lunch, unfortunately, it wasn't tasty at all. The sausage has no taste, it's not salty, there are no spices, it feels like eating paper, everything is covered in a lot of mayonnaise sauce. The potatoes and tomatoes are tasty, but it won't fix the impression and you certainly won't eat enough of it. The prices are also not cheap for such food, it's better to spend your time and find a normal establishment.

The food is okay, toilet accessibility is horrible. The toilets are paid, expensive, and the voucher system is useless, potentially by design. Customers access toilets after paying for the food; so the voucher is set to expire worthless. I want to see whoever has been congratulated for the design of this system start every restaurant they visit by going to the toilet (only once!).

Came upon this deli today. We had a tuna & chicken bab both delicious & v helpful staff. Lovely area to sit & eat v clean 80 cent to use the bathrooms which is fine by me as they are clean & well maintained. Would highly recommend The Place

I came here last year and was rather satisfied. That’s why I came back again this year to experience and awful customer service. Although we ordered multiple drinks and deserts, we were forced to pay for using the restroom! Had I known that, I would easily go to the Starbucks instead!

Went here for lunch with my mother during a day of shopping. Upon entering you can immediately grab a tray and choose your food, the range is very wide and looks good. 1 downside was that there were 2 types of yogurt/cottage cheese that you could choose from. I asked the staff what was what as it was not stated. It was said “one is organic yogurt and the other is strawberry cottage cheese” but no one knew which was which. Furthermore, I had a great meal and we were kindly helped with all our questions. Definitely recommended!

I’ve been coming here for years. The cakes, pastries, and pizzas are excellent. However, the sandwiches used to be better and now feel underfilled for the high prices. The service is friendly, and it’s a lovely spot to relax and enjoy good company.

Varied cuisine, there is almost something for everyone. The only downside is that the toilets are chargeable.

Many years later, I happened to have a quick bite to eat this afternoon. Inside, La Place looks very different. We had a pizza and shared it and something to drink. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of it, it was late in the afternoon and we hadn't had lunch yet. The pizza was a little less tasty than the other branches, I think it had to stay in the oven longer. But lots of ingredients. In addition, I have the feeling that you pay a little more here than the other branches. There are 3 floors where you can sit and today there was plenty of room. It's a bit of a shame that you still have to pay for the toilets as a customer. We went downstairs and it already smelled bad in the hallway, so we skipped a visit to the toilet.

the toilet is very dirty. very dirty paper is not. urinate on the floor. in two men's toilets the water button does not work. to wash your hands before eating you have to pay a fee. a great stupidity

5/5, Discovered it just by walking by randomly, it's 3 floors + underground flood (for WCs), totally self service and actually accepts Cash payment, I had a great combo deal of 5€ for a cappuccino+ Croissant filled with Caramel and Speculos, the atmosphere is super cosy and you can enjoy your dessert with a either the view of the Amsterdam downtown or the riverside.

I had a soup for lunch and it was DELICIOUS! ✨ It's like a buffet where you pay what you get. Good thing is that you know prices beforehand, so there are no surprises in here. There are 3 options: small, regular or big. It all depends on the plate you choose so, if you do pay for a big one, please fill you plate appropiately! I chose pumpkin soup and 10/10. You can heat it a bit in their microwaves and it's perf for a cold day! You can have fruits, smoothies and all pastries looked good! Everything here seems fresh and "healthy" (or at least not greasy and same as if you eat at home). Also, you can try their soups at the supermarket. Though I believe those might have some conservants or something like that. Anyway - Quality/price: 8/10 - Taste: 10/10 - Place: was good, clean and warm!

You pay 7 euros for a sandwich with hardly any toppings in it. Scandalous. On a chicken roll, 4 splinter-thin pieces of chicken. And the tuna focaccia only has a very thin layer of tuna salad spread on it. That's nice.

The pear cake was good. The rooftop seating was fantastic. The service at the coffee corner could have been better. I'll definitely be back!

Let's not talk about the prices of the past or how busy it was back then, in the glory days of V&D. Nowadays La Place is a place with little atmosphere. But what I really want to complain about is that I have now been served weak fries for the third time. If there is a complaint, the fries are simply fried again, so that they are first boiling hot and then limp again. A shame for such a place: so much space, but below standard due to unnecessary, poor service and those silly ham sandwiches with a lot of cream cheese and then those prices. Missed opportunities. What will it be soon? An Instagram museum or just another hotel?

La Place- where you used to go for a cream cheese sandwich, sausage roll or something good to eat. This restaurant.. is sad. Uninterested, rude personnel, lukewarm excuse for pea soup, dirty table. As i said: sad. Another Dutch institution down the drain.

When paying, they let the three people after me go first. It then turns out that you have to pay for the toilet, even after consumption. The amount was supposed to be 70 cents, but I got 10 cents back from a euro. For that money you expect a clean toilet, but it was extremely rancid.

Rarely eaten at a La Place, but guaranteed the worst (dining) experience. Not only was there one medium bowl for the soup and only dozens of large ones (not small ones), which almost became a problem at the checkout, a lot worse: The soup was cold (almost lukewarm) and the gingerbread nuts with the fruit salad were completely soft. and old. And the ice?: Flat, but really just below 0°C. The chocolate of the Magnum just barely kept the insides inside... Also got the wrong salad that was not included in the deal even though it was stated as such. Clearly not enough attention is being paid here. We were helped very well at the checkout. But more importantly: However, her burger and loaded fries were certainly good: 3 stars. Maximum.

It's on a busy street with nice views. The choice of food is large, the average price for a meal is around 25 euros per person. The knuckle was not sufficiently thermally processed, salads are good, fruit juices are fresh.

Super delicious sandwiches, salad and gravy

I consider myself a connaisseur of La Place, having visited the old ones (as part of V&D) and the new ones (owned by Jumbo) many times. Last week I visited the one in the Kalverstraat in the middle of the afternoon and the food on offer was nearly depleted and the few staff were completely not interested in any interaction with customers. Horrific. This is by the way not the case for other La Place restaurants I have been recently.

I left my bag here with very valuable items in it. Only found this out after closing time. Called early the next morning. Bag was found and neatly stored. Super!!!!!!!!

The food is usually good, but the service was really bad. The attitude of the woman with short hair on the salad section. I took one chicken then wanted to add potatoes, she yelled NO! you cannot have the potatoes! That was odd to say the least. Then, the woman at the coffie section almost threw the spoon at the counter. What is going on with these people!!

The seating area is very large, but still comfortable. You can sit there for a long time and do some work or read. The food is good, but rather expensive for a self-service restaurant.
