The family gives you a warm welcome, and you'll feel the passion they share. We sat outside and enjoyed a delicious meal. We try to eat at this wonderful restaurant every year when we go to Deventer. Luckily we had made a reservation in advance, because that is necessary. Today we chose the surprise menu, and for medium spicy. We should have chosen spicy, we are used to eating Thai dishes in Bangkok... After the delicious food, we spoke to Tom for a while and promised to come back soon.

What a beautiful ambiance - it feels like you are on vacation and not in the Netherlands anymore. Very friendly owner and staff, all very hospitable and friendly. We enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. Definitely recommended!

We visited Mekong on a Sunday and had a lovely experience. The atmosphere was pleasant, the interior is decorated with lots of statues and unique details that give it a welcoming feel. There’s also an outdoor seating area. The staff was friendly and attentive without being over the top, which we appreciated. We ordered four different dishes, and each one was full of flavor, everything tasted fresh and well prepared. All in all, we had a great time and felt well taken care of. Definitely a place we’d be happy to come back to.

Had a lovely meal with a friend at Mekong in Deventer last night. Very friendly service. We sat in the atmospheric garden. The food was delicious! Fresh and even adjusted by the chef to a slightly spicier taste. What a service! We will definitely be back!

The service was certainly fine and friendly. The food was tasty but not exceptional. I found the menu quite limited for a Thai restaurant, but that made choosing easier.

Dit restaurant zit in een prachtig oud pand en is zeer smaakvol ingericht. Je voelt je meteen thuis. De bediening is zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam om een geschikte keuze te kunnen maken uit het ruime aanbod van gerechten. Omdat wij veganistisch eten willen we graag weten wat de mogelijkheden zijn. We kozen voor 3 gangen. Deze waren alledrie heerlijk . Vooral het bananendessert was zeer goed. We komen graag weer eens terug om andere gerechten te proeven.

Wij hadden gekozen voor een 3 gangen verrassingsmenu. Het voor gerecht was geweldig! Helaas was het hoofdgerecht een tegenvaller. Erg vlak qua smaak. Totaal nergens een pitje in,geen pepertje kunnen ontdekken!! Mag voor Thais eten toch wel stuk pittiger. Nu snap ik heel goed dat niet iedereen daar van houd en niet al te gek kan maken. Maar wat meer mag best,of even aan de gasten vragen!! Dessert was prima. Helaas geen wijnkaart,alleen simpele huiswijn. Voor verbetering vatbaar.

Heerlijk verse gerechten en vlotte, vriendelijke bediening. Flinke porties ook. Restaurant is ook sfeervol ingericht.

For a team outing we went to Mekong for dinner. The restaurant was nicely decorated and spacious. The surprise menu is definitely recommended. You get a little bit of everything. The table is therefore quite full of plates, but with a bit of tetris you can figure it out. The waitresses are friendly and exude calm. The owner also came by at the end of the evening. Nice! The only downside was perhaps that the waitresses did not ask if you wanted something new to drink when the glass was empty. Still 5 stars.

Gezien de goede reviews hier een reservering gemaakt op 8 maart. Dus toch wel met enige verwachting naar dit restaurant. Prima ontvangst en we mochten een tafel uitkiezen. Soft drinks werden geserveerd zonder flesje dus uit PET fles, dat maak je niet vaak meer mee, maar ok. Zelf had ik een Heineken 0.0 besteld, deze kwam echter niet. Nogmaals gevraagd maar kwam nog steeds nog niet….. bij het voorgerecht nogmaals (!) gevraagd (3e keer dus!) en uiteindelijk heeft de 0.0 toch onze tafel bereikt! Zelden driemaal om mijn drankje hoeven vragen, toch wat vreemd….. Voorgerecht op zich prima,. we bestelden o.a. de thaise garnaal loempia’s als voorgerecht. We kregen tempura garnalen en ik vroeg ter bevestiging of dit de garnaal loempia’s zijn….. ja, de loempia zit erin….. hmmmm… niet dus, gewoon tempura garnalen, prima en lekker maar zet het dan als zodanig op de kaart en niet als een garnaal loempia want dat is het niet. Hoofdgerechten waren echt lekker, goed op smaak en heel fijn dat er voor onze zoon van 12 iets buiten de kaart werd gemaakt, nogmaals dank! De bediening…. tsja…. jong en oogt niet ervaren. Ze gebruiken geen dienbladen, lopen veelvuldig langs tafels zonder lege glazen mee te nemen. Jongeman begon met afruimen maar maakte het niet af en ging met andere werkzaamheden verder, al met al zeer onrustig. Dame nam het in opdracht over en ruimde de tafel verder af, dessert heerlijk en de moeite waard. Al met al vonden we de wachttijden over het algemeen toch wel wat lang maar ok. De witte huiswijn was echt ver beneden de maat, wat een teleurstelling, dat moet echt veel beter! Wij komen zelf uit de horeca en omgeving rond Amsterdam, gaan vaak uit eten, zijn daarom wellicht wat kritisch maar wel oprecht eerlijk. Is Mekong een goede thai… mhoaw… we hebben echt wel beter gegeten. We komen met enige regelmaat bij Krua Thai in de Staalstraat in Amsterdam en dat is echt een ander niveau, daar proef je Thailand en dat niveau heeft Mekong in Deventer echt niet bereikt. Prima als je in de buurt bent maar anders niet. En de thaise (?) muziek, leuk hoor maar na een kwartier ben je er helemaal klaar mee…🙃 Prijs kwaliteit is in verhouding. Fam. Hagens, 8 maart

Voor de eerste keer in Deventer en gekozen voor dit restaurants vanwege de zeer goede recensies. Daar was niets aan gelogen, het eten was heerlijk meer dan genoeg en de smaken van de gerechten waren zalig. De warme uitstraling van het team kom je nog weinig tegen en het restaurants was sfeervol en heel gezellig. Tom, leuk dat je nog even naar onze tafel kwam en ons welkom heette. Het was een warme ontmoeting en we weten zeker dat er iemand heel heel trots op je is. stay strong, groetjes mike en nancy

Heerlijk eten, goede bediening en een super lieve eigenaar. Op aanraden van onze vrienden zijn wij naar Mekong gegaan. Wij wonen sinds 2 jaar in Frankrijk en missen deze keuken heel erg. We kwamen met plezier proeven en zijn niet teleurgesteld. Het was heerlijk!! Lieve Tom: de meest heldere ster straalt voor jou.

Wederom, heerlijk gegeten. Gerechten zijn erg smaakvol. Wij komen speciaal uit Enschede naar Deventer voor dit restaurant dus dat zegt genoeg.

We were a group of 13 people. We were asked in advance whether anything needed to be taken into account. This also happened nicely. We were served various starters and main courses. Very attractive restaurant, nice smooth service and delicious food. Everything is perfectly coordinated. It feels very homely and the furnishings have been carefully coordinated. The tables are spaciously arranged. The tables also look beautifully set and the meals are tailored accordingly. It is clear that a lot has been invested in this and that makes the entire evening a wonderful experience. The owner was very friendly and approachable. I drove here especially from Amsterdam on the recommendation of a friend (combined with a visit to the beautiful city center) and will definitely dine here more often. A 10!!! We had an extensive mixed starter for 4 people, massaman with shrimp, yellow curry with chicken, green curry with chicken and kai med muang. Everything beautifully prepared, very tasteful and authentic. For dessert, sticky rice with mango and ice cream. The entire evening was a feast for the taste buds and the eyes. My compliments.

Als je alle 150+ recensies van Mekong Deventer door loopt, zie je voor 99,9% alleen maar 5 sterren beoordelingen . Dat is toch bijzonder! Onze eigen ervaring bevestigde dat volledig. Een authentiek Thais restaurant, een vriendelijk gastvrij familiebedrijf, dat de beleving van de Aziatische keuken nauwkeurig benadert. Een 100% aanrader!

One of the tastiest Thai's I've eaten in recent years. Owner was also very friendly and the decor is beautiful! If you fancy Thai food, this is your best option in Deventer!

Sunday evening, December 22, '24, we had a delicious meal in a super atmospheric living room/Restaurant Mekong, Highly recommended if you want to enjoy Thai food in peace, and you should definitely try the dessert, freshly cut mango, with a scoop of mango ice cream, and a scoop of rice with coconut sauce on top, wow really heavenly.... we will definitely come back, and thanks again for the delicious food and service, nice and friendly staff TOP

I have never eaten Thai food as delicious as here! Atmospheric restaurant and very friendly people. The chef himself came by with dessert and to have a chat. I thought the green curry was fantastic and my daughter is a real fan of the sticky rice with fresh mango.

For me this is the surprise of Deventer. The food here is fantastic.

We have already eaten at Mekong a few times and we have enjoyed it every time, including last Saturday! The delicious food and the homely, cozy atmosphere. The food is all freshly prepared, so you can let us know your wishes if, for example, you don't want the dish to be very spicy. And yes, sometimes something can go wrong with an order, but it is resolved very quickly! In some reviews I read that people had to wait a very long time, I absolutely don't recognize that and I can't imagine it either! Owner/cook Tom is a sweetheart, who usually comes to ask if everything was to your liking or just to have a chat. All in all, highly recommended for a meal! In any case, we will definitely come back!

Not a Thai restaurant at all. Worst tom yam kong ever! How about the cook search a proper recipe first? It’s quite hilarious when we found cauliflower and sweet pepper in it. Phad thai is also pretty bad. Same as the fried rice.. no idea why it’s rated so high. It’s just not a Thai restaurant and I feel fooled.

Second time we ate at Mekong. It's okay. What we noticed: no pronounced Thai flavors, which can be so subtle. Starter: as if it comes straight from the wholesaler to the chip shop. Food is ok, but unfortunately not a third time for us. Very young service, functional, no real customer contact. Location very attractive. Price-quality ratio not in balance.

I love Thailand, have been there many times (see my reviews from earlier this year). Bangkok is one of my favorite cities in the world. What's so great about Bangkok is that people are cooking on every street corner. The food smells as you walk around this city are overwhelming. Not only the smells, but also the flavors of all the dishes in Thailand are so rich and delicious, full of herbs and spices. If you are used to these flavors, you should not eat in this restaurant in Deventer! Because this food really has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the food in Thailand. We are very surprised by the high score on Google, but that is mainly due to the design of this restaurant, because it is really beautiful!! Furthermore, it took a very long time for the main courses to arrive, we think we waited more than an hour. When the main courses finally arrived, there was also the wrong dish. We didn't say anything about this because we didn't feel like waiting any longer. So unfortunately you shouldn't come here for Thai food.

Might have a good location, but IMHO this can hardly be called Thai food, more like a weird fusion. For example, picture 1 shows the fried rice on the menu. The satay kebabs look like Indonesian food, and the fried rice looks like Chinese fried rice. Anyway, this is definitely not how Thai fried rice is made. Picture 2 is pad thai. I have never seen such a strange and wet pad thai. In my understanding, pad thai should be a dry fried noodle. Picture 3: This is Tom Yum soup. I can't imagine it. It uses a lot of coconut milk. I have never eaten "Tong Yum soup" that uses coconut milk. "Yin Gong Soup", there is rice noodles in it, I have never seen it, I don't think it should be called "Tom Yum Kung". Two stars for the environment. The environment of the restaurant is very good and the location is good.

Edit after response: I placed a reservation via the website on Sunday 11/24 and Friday 11/29 for 6 people on Sunday, December 1. Unfortunately, there was never a response to this. And on November 29, I called to be sure. The person I spoke to indicated that they could not see a reservation based on my name and number of people. Good restaurant Unfortunately, online reservations do not work, the reservations do not go through, so you do not receive a confirmation, and when you call your reservation cannot be found in the system. So you always have to call to make a reservation (tip). (Hence one star less) The food and the restaurant itself are definitely worth 5 stars. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and wide choice of dishes. The food is served very nicely and tastes good.

We waited an extremely long time before we got the menu or drinks. After ordering it seemed quite chaotic inside without many other customers. After not getting any food for almost 2.5 hours (I tried to ask several times, but the staff was busy with each other), I walked to the kitchen and asked myself. The food was almost ready, so we asked for take-out as we didn't feel like sitting here anymore. You didn't have to pay for the drinks, but you still had to pay 90 for the food. When we got home, it turned out that the stated allergy had not been taken into account, and all the food went straight into the green bin. Never again! Edit: definitely not a mistake, just posted later..

We were staying in the hotel close by and discover this Thai restaurant “Mae Khong” it looks nice decorated as a Thai painting or Buddha statue. We lived in Thailand for 5 years. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing TomYam with paprika 🫑 and cauliflower!!! 🙄🫣No taste of lemongrass or coriander at all 👎 fried noodles with soy sauce (Pad See-Ew) super salty and so wet . Our kids had fried rice, it looks delicious but no taste as it look at all . We read the reviews and seem convincing should try but we don’t think so . It’s a pity that no taste as a authentic Thai food 😭😤

Very nice place where they serve fantastic food. Waiting staff are very friendly. We arrived early so we would have plenty of time to catch up. Staff regularly checked in at the table to check whether we already knew and indicated that we had better order quickly because otherwise we would be behind a group and it could take a long time. Very nice intention, but after the umpteenth time it felt somewhat intrusive. In the end, the delicious food arrived very quickly and we had a nice chat with the staff.

Als liefhebber van de thaise keuken viel onze keus op restaurant Mekong. Het is op woensdagavond als we naar binnengaan. Je kunt terecht in een gang van een woonhuis vervolgens kom in een kamer en suite terecht. Het restaurant is gevestigd in een woonkamer van een statig herenhuis. Het is prachtig ingericht en gedecoreerd. We kiezen voor een plek in de achterste kamer met zicht op de tuin. We worden vriendelijk welkom geheten door het personeel. De kaart biedt voldoende keus. We gaan eerst voor een voorgerecht. Dat wordt vegetarische loempia's en de kipsaté. De kip is mals en de satésaus is bijzonder lekker! De loempia's zijn helaas koud. Maar dat probleem wordt snel opgelost. En even later staan er hete loempia's bij ons op tafel. Voor het hoofdgerecht kies ik voor Kai Kraitiem Prik en voor Petra voor Kai Med Mumang. Er wirdt geïnformeerd hoe we het gerecht het liefst willen hebben ( mild of scherp). De chefkok komt langs om te vragen of we er klaar voor zijn. Zeer attent, zo bepaal je zelf de tijd tussen voor en het hoofdgerecht. Het smaakt ons werkelijk heerlijk. Ook worden we nog voorzien van extra rode pepers om ons maaltijd iets pittiger te maken. Voor ons was het bezoek aan Mekong bijzonder geslaagd dankzij het vriendelijk personeel, het heerlijk eten, en niet te te vergeten de bijzondere plek.

Delicious Thai food for a fair price. If you want delicious Thai food, Mekong is the place to be, with hospitable service and a beautiful location in a large mansion. But inside we felt like we were in Thailand.

Had dinner with 5 of us tonight. We were surprised with a number of delicious small dishes and as a main course we received 5 delicious different dishes. Everything was very tasty and with fresh vegetables. The decor is very cozy and the service is good. Tom was a very good host who welcomed us at the beginning. We will definitely come back here.

Vanavond een heerlijk etentje gehad ter ere van het 8 jaar getrouwd-zijn! Wat een fijn en warm reztaurant, goede sfeer met oprechte aandacht voor de mensen die komen dineren. Het eten was heel smaakvol, niet te pittig(en mocht dit zo zijn dan kun je dit gerust aangeven) en ook smaakvol gepresenteerd. Van voorgerecht, soep, hoofdgetecht en nagerecht, allemaal even lekker! Wij komen zeker nog eens terug! ❤️

Despite the beautiful location, this is definitely not a good restaurant in my opinion. The service was downright clumsy. The food took longer than an hour. And the food itself was greasy and really had nothing to do with Thai food at all. I have not tasted or smelled lemongrass, lemon leaves, galangal, galangal, coconut, Thai basil or tamarind in the various dishes. Very disappointing and the chef at the table did not make it any better with out of place lewd comments.

NOT AUTHENTIC THAI FOOD! Even though the owner/chef claims to have worked in Thailand for 6 years, the food tastes more like a cheap bastardized copy. None of the characteristic tastes are present in the food. Fish cakes are mushy and bland. The Pad Thai noodles cooked incorrectly and only tasted sour. The curries way too thick, lacking the taste of crucial ingredients. It's a shame the food isn't good. Because of the stunning reviews, I expected authentic Thai cuisine. I suggest looking elsewhere if you're looking for something authentic. The staff is extremely friendly though (4 stars because we had to wait for an hour) and the environment is lovely.

Wij mochten vanavond bij Mekong onze 30e huwelijksdag vieren met ons gezin. Mekong heeft een fijne, huiselijke setting waar je fantastisch wordt bediend. Wij genoten van een plank met gevarieerde voorgerechten, gevolgd door een ruim en gevarieerd hoofdgerecht. De chef kwam zelf ook nog even langs om zich voor te stellen en uitleg te geven. Dit alles voor een zeer schappelijke prijs. Het is niet voor niets dat Mekong zo goed wordt gewaardeerd. Hier komen wij beslist weer eens terug.

Wij reserveerden en dit was nodig want op deze zaterdagavond zit het tuinterras vol en ook binnen is het restaurant goed gevuld. Uit de keuken komen heerlijke en verse gerechten. Het smaakt allemaal geweldig. Bediening maakte een foutje door ons een kipgerecht te serveren ondanks het feit dat we als vegetariërs garnalen hadden besteld. Even wachten en een drankje van het huis. Goed opgelost. Prima!

After not expecting too much from this restaurant, we noticed that it had a very warm and homely atmosphere and we thought the food was a real taste sensation, everything fresh, for a good price. Highly recommended for those who enjoy fun and good food! Tom and the staff are great people! The personal attention you receive is really a big 10! We will definitely come back here more often.

Heerlijk gegeten bij Mekong. Aanrader. Vriendelijk personeel en kok/eigenaar Lekkere producten/groenten. Wij komen zeker een keer terug

Beste Thaise restaurant waar ik in NL heb gegeten. De gerechten smaken heerlijk en zijn consequent op smaak. Wij hadden gisteren de Massaman en Groene curry. Heerlijk, tot het laatste schepje saus op gegaan. Je kunt vooraf zelf aangeven of je de gerechten wat pittiger wilt hebben. Erg vriendelijke bediening en prachtige ambiance, zowel binnen als in de tuin. De kok/eigenaar M. is iemand die je hart verwarmt en alle gasten altijd even persoonlijke aandacht geeft. We hebben gisteren elkaar zelfs even een dikke knuffel gegeven. Het liefst zou ik hier iedere week een keer eten. Tot snel! Ellen Takken

Today we ate at Mekong again with 8 people and as always it was delicious. It's always fun, atmospheric and great! If you want a delicious meal in a beautiful setting, you should eat at Mekong. Tom and team, see you next time! M

We had a delicious meal on the terrace and were given a very hospitable and friendly welcome by the waiters and chef. We will definitely come back to taste the other dishes! Together with our dog Fons :-)
