MJ café in Kustwijk

Been there a few times now. Beautiful place with a terrace to match, lots of friendly staff but the food is not always my thing. The onion soup was lukewarm and full of twigs and onion skin. The MJ hamburger for 22 euros! Soggy, sticky and greasy with a bowl of fries that seemed to have been fried for the 3rd time. Too bad because the steak tartare is great again!! All in all a nice place but the food is less so.

After a day at Batavia city - outlet me and my girlfriend were looking for a nice restaurant. Cozy atmosphere, very motivated and nice staff. Food was great and I really enjoyed it, what a nice ending! Thanks everyone at MJ

Unfortunately, the loud music of a DJ and a drummer (?) partly spoiled our dinner because it was not possible to just talk to each other with the three of us. When we asked if the music could be turned down a bit, we were told that the restaurant was celebrating its three-year anniversary... We would have liked to have been warned about this when we booked the table 2 weeks ago. In addition, waiting 5 quarters for a starter is also a bit long.

Great food, nice spontaneous service. Too bad that at 22:00, when you are still enjoying your coffee, the music goes to disco mode. If you like that, this is ‘the place to be’, but I like a good conversation in good company. Negative point.

The weather was lovely and the terrace was full, which meant that our food was served quite late. When we asked they offered us a drink and an apology for the long wait. In the sun this was not a problem, the service did their very best.

**Bad experience at MJ Café Lelystad** Unfortunately had a very disappointing experience at MJ Café in Lelystad. The chicken satay was served cold and the sauce that came with it didn't taste like peanut sauce at all — more like a mixture of salt and mayonnaise. The steak was also a major disappointment: tough, tasteless and covered with an unappetizing, disgusting layer of fat. Really not edible. What made it even worse: we received two glasses of water “on the house”, but these suddenly turned out to be €6.20 on the bill. Very misleading and absolutely not customer friendly. All in all a bad meal, bad service and definitely not recommended. I won't be coming back here again.

MJ café is a beautiful spot to go and have a bite after work or a lunch in a sunny day. The staff is super nice and helpful and the drinks are amazing. Overall the food was great, the only thing I can point out was the steak was a bit stiff and slightly hard to chew, but overall was a good experience. Also want to add that we waited quite a bit for the food but we heard one server mention how understaffed they are. It was packed but somehow calm and not too noisy, the calm music on the speakers probably helped to not feel too overwhelming. Will definitely be coming back often!

I was attracted by nice ambience with DJ and good music. But service is horrible with unexperienced people. I’ve waited for a long time til someone realized my presence. I asked for menu and chose my option.. and waited for a looooong time. Nobody came to take note of my order. I gave up and went to another bar really close where i was promptly served. You should pay more attention to the clients and the services u are (not) providing. Good luck and success!

Had a great time last Saturday on the terrace at MJ Café. Never knew Lelystad could be so hip! We were there with some friends, and they enjoyed it immensely too. The DJ was very good, great music! Nice to see him in Lelystad; I have previously experienced one of his live sets at Latin Village. The music matched the setting perfectly; we imagined ourselves in Ibiza for a moment.

Delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere

Although we don't live in Lelystad, we like to come to MJ. Today we also had a great time on the attractive terrace with a nice view and plenty of sunshine. It always gives you a holiday feeling. The steak tartare was excellent and the burrata salad was also excellently prepared. These delicious dishes with a bubbling Prosecco made our lunch perfect. What makes this location unique is the combination of delicious dishes, a beautiful terrace with an extremely motivated team. See you again very soon.

Nice grand café with a very nice interior, beautiful herb garden and top terrace, and yes when the weather is nice so early in the year you sometimes have to wait a little longer, but yes it is in the sun and out of the wind and had a nice view, and when the service comes it is also pleasant, top location

Even 1 star is a lot. Waited 45 minutes just to get a menu, 30 minutes after ordering they told us that lunch was until 4:00 PM while we arrived at 3:10 PM. Bringing a napkin here takes an hour. Food was terribly bad and very average. There are plenty of staff around, but no structure or discipline at all. And if you indicate at checkout that everything together was very bad, you will be told yes, sorry, it can happen. Only the oysters were tasty, but yes, you buy them from the wholesaler. Such a beautiful place, but they literally don't do anything with it.

Friendly staff and tasty food. The ambiance is also nice. Definitely recommended for a meal. The starters were really delicious. As a main course I had the salmon with potato puree. I missed the salt here, although the sauce that came with it made up for it somewhat. For dessert I had the trifle and I personally didn't like it as much, but that was probably because it is very rich because of the mascarpone.

Good atmosphere, friendly employees. Main course, meat was cold, not warm, not lukewarm, but cold. Could be replaced, but not chosen due to time, and we were invited. Communication between service and kitchen is therefore not good. Won't be eating there again anytime soon.

We enjoyed a delicious ladies lunch here. It was neatly maintained and extensive. More than enough too. The terrace is spacious and cozy. There was a DJ with nice music that was not too loud, we could still have a conversation. The afternoon was over in no time! There is a spacious and free car park around the corner from the grand café.

Beautiful, attractive and spacious restaurant in Bataviahaven in Lelystad. In addition to the restaurant, they also have a nice large terrace with a view of the harbor. Staff are exceptionally friendly and hospitable. They have a menu with various beautiful dishes. I had an excellent Asian Steak and the Pornstar Delight dessert was also sublime.

- Bad service, arrogant management (not the employees) - older people are treated rudely. - Guests with dogs are not welcome inside, but they are allowed on the terrace, but if it starts to rain you will be shown the door. (not answered in their response) - So this company only thinks about their own profit, they get the turnover but you don't have to expect any service. No, they have house rules. - they are a grand café, but want to compete or think they are a Michelin star restaurant. They are not anyway, given the above (service). So in short: a big inadequacy, as stated in other reviews, they are missing out here. I can agree with that. I say walk a little further and find another company/restaurant where everyone is welcome!

We, a group of 7, enjoyed a nice beer and bitterbal after a boat trip and a visit to the Marker Wadden and then had a delicious meal. The beautifully presented plates were a feast for the eyes and taste. . Great atmosphere, top service (thanks Sven and colleagues), beautiful decor. The nice ambiance really made our day complete, despite the wind force 5 and rain outside. A sunny feeling 💛

Had a quick bite to eat at MJ's. It was really delicious! The steak tartare is highly recommended. The service was friendly and adequate, the interior looked nice. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Was here recently and was a bit shocked. I used to come here a while ago for a cup of coffee and a cheesecake. The cheesecake was always a generous slice. However, a few days ago I was served a small block the size of a few cheese cubes next to each other for five euros. I laughed when I saw it and asked the waitress "what is this?". Very unfortunate, because I always liked coming here. But this is going a bit too far for me.

We had lunch. Amazing! Great quality food, a little pricey but it is worth the quality. If you get something like the gyoza like i did, I do reccomend getting a side dish. We both had one dish, a side dish, one coffee and one mint tea.

Absolutely fantastic in all aspects. Not a single thing to complain about.

We came with a group of people. It was not possible to organize a large table even though there was enough space. It is a beautiful, trendy place in a deserted Lelystad at this time. We ate a three-course menu for groups. The starters were served cold and were not really special but very rich. The main course, on the other hand, was really good and tasty. The desserts, on the other hand, were another disappointment. All in all, a somewhat unbalanced evening in terms of food. Toilets are in excellent condition and the staff was also above average.

Gezellig en erg lekker geborreld. Wel om 2200 uur te horen gekregen dat ze de laatste ronde gingen inschenken ondanks ze tot 12 open horen te zijn. Opzich logisch want we waren nog de enige, maar voelt toch alsof je snel weg moet...

Een verademing om in Lelystad ook gewoon goed te kunnen eten. Heerlijke wijnen en uitstekende service. Niets op aan te merken.

Toptent aan de haven van Lelystad, in alle opzichten een dikke 10 En omdat mijn naam dezelfde initialen heeft als deze zaak, kreeg ik nog een mooi glas met deze letters mee, hoe attent is dat!

Gisteravond bij MJ gegeten met 4 personen. Gezellig op het terras aan de haven. Vriendelijk personeel en fantastisch lekker gegeten. Zowel voorgerecht, hoofdgerecht als nagerecht van hoge kwaliteit. Lange tijd niet zo lekker gegeten

Zeer goede keuken, attente en vriendelijke bediening. MJ "cafe" dekt voor ons niet de lading, het is veel meer dan een café. Uiteraard kun je voor een hapje en een drankje binnenstappen of koffie met gebak, maar voor ons is het gewoon het beste restaurant van Lelystad.

De eetgelegenheid biedt een genotvolle culinaire ervaring dankzij uitstekende gerechten, vriendelijk personeel en attente service. De kwaliteit van het eten is hoog, en de verhouding tussen prijs en kwaliteit is gunstig - je krijgt waar voor je geld. Wij komen zeker vaker terug.

Wauw wat een verrassing. Een uitzonderlijk goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding van het eten. Alle gerechten die we hadden besteld waren echt goed. Het personeel was ook zeer vriendelijk en kwamen regelmatig vragen of alles naar zin was. Ze namen de tijd om vragen over het eten te beantwoorden en kenden het menu en de ingrediënten. Het restaurant is modern en gezellig ingericht. Zeker aan te raden en voor herhaling vatbaar.

Heerlijk gegeten in een gezellig restaurant. Vriendelijk personeel, en een goede prijs-kwaliteit verhouding. We komen zeker weer terug.

Nu twee keer geweest. Eerste keer voor cocktails en een toetje en de tweede keer eten. Vriendelijke bediening en leuke sfeer. De cocktails waren heerlijk en de toetjes ook. De tweede keer was de service niet anders: gelijk wat water en fijne mensen. Wij hadden de kip als hoofdgerecht. Mooi opgemaakt en een hele lekkere saus. Maar we vonden de kip wat "gewoontjes". De smaak zat duidelijk niet in de kip, maar erop. Vonden we toch een beetje tegenvallen. Het was wel prima zeg maar, maar niet bijzonder. Volgende keer gaan we iets anders proberen! Vooralsnog gaan we zeker nog een keer komen.

We waren hier eerder toevallig terecht gekomen met onze groep van 12 om iets te drinken op het mooie grote terras buiten met prachtig zicht op de haven. Dat is ons prima bevallen. Lekkere cocktails en mocktails. Super professionele bediening. Je krijgt ook onmiddellijk gratis water uit geschonken. De volgende avond zijn we terug gekomen voor een dinner. Aperitief buiten en dinner binnen in het prachtige interieur. Allemaal geen probleem hier. De gerechten en desserts waren zéér lekker. Sides apart bij te nemen. Prijs/kwaliteit zit goed. We hebben hier een mooie avond doorgebracht.

In 1 woord: FANTASTISCH!!! Heerlijk eten, heerlijke wijn, geweldige bediening en de sfeer was super relaxed en ontspannen. Kan niet wachten om er weer te komen!!

Food is amazing! Try out the veal cheek with wasabi crumble .. mmmm. Staff are super friendly and the service is too. The atmosphere though I can’t figure out. It looks high end, the prices match medium end yet it’s always borderline empty when I eat there on a warm, sunny evening. Market yourselves better :)

We visited the MJ by invitation. A very modern, fine restaurant with great details and very attentive service staff. While we were still thinking about the starter and main course, the bread we ordered at the beginning came with two extremely delicious dips. After we had ordered a starter and a main course, plates that had been prepared very lovingly came to us. The great look was also confirmed on the palate. This is where high-quality products meet the taste buds - the eye is also richly rewarded. A meal that will be remembered for a long time. Hopefully this place can keep up this quality. Even if it's not cheap fun, it's great value for money! High-quality food, which is combined to form excellently coordinated dishes, simply has its price. We will come back for sure!

Met mooi weer kan je heerlijk aan het water zitten op hun uitgebreid terras. Ook binnen is het heerlijk vertoeven. De short rib en de limoen kip zijn overheerlijke gerechten. En super goeie service

Very kind and courteous staff, but horrendously slow wait times. Today was a busy day, but we have been here three months ago on an extremely slow day and it was the same. Sometimes waiting 30+ minutes for only drinks to come out or even just to have a server come to us to order more. The drinks are very overpriced for what you get, but they are well made. The fries are lacking in salt, but the cheese and bitterballen are great. Again, however, they’re quite pricey for what you get. If you don’t mind a potentially lengthy wait or the prices, MJ has a fantastic atmosphere and lovely staff, but the previously mentioned issues are a dealbreaker for me personally.

Al regelmatig geweest, prachtige locatie, mooi terras en binnen is het ook prachtig! Personeel erg vriendelijk. Waarom de 3 sterren? Omdat het eten erg wisselend is qua kwaliteit en zeker voor vegetariërs is er niet heel veel keuze (tenzij gefrituurd). De laatste keer erg tegenvallende skin on friet (zonder skin en drijvend in het vet) en de geitenkaas"salade" was niet meer dan een krop little gem met extreem veel zout. Zeker het geld niet waard. We hebben dit wel aangegeven en we konden een nieuwe salade krijgen (?) Maar ik vind het zonde als de oude wordt weggegooid dus maar zo gelaten. De friet bleek van een andere leverancier vandaar geen skin, prima maar dat hoor ik liever van tevoren. Kleine dingetjes maar wel net dingen die voor mij de prijs niet helemaal rechtvaardigen. De cocktails zijn erg lekker en het desembrood ook! Wat meer keuze in vegetarisch qua lunch en streetfood zou fijn zijn , de buns die er eerst waren waren heerlijk. Op de nieuwe kaart wel wat ijs opties gezien dus die binnenkort maar eens proberen. Ok, wisselende review want wisselende ervaringen tot nu toe, dus voorlopig 3 sterren...

Prachtig geserveerd en heerlijk eten. En dat uitzicht.....!!!

Wij vonden het een beetje tegen vallen.hadden er meer van verwacht.Bediening was vriendelijk dat was een plus.soms lang wachten.

We aten met vier volwassenen het vier gangen menu bij MJ. De ontvangst was ondanks de reservering koel. We starten met een goede prosecco. Kraanwater van het huis is standaard aanwezig. Heerlijk desem brood met goede olijfolie en boter maken het een fijne start. Het personeel is vlot en accuraat. Samen met de mooie inrichting zorgt dit voor een relaxte sfeer. Nadat we onze keuze hebben gemaakt wordt het voorgerecht al snel geserveerd. Fijne en smaakvolle gerechten mooi opgemaakt. Wachtend op het tussengerecht blijkt dit na enige tijd niet aanwezig. Als alternatief staan er twee vega gerechten op de kaart waar we uit kunnen kiezen. Beide gerechten bekoren ons niet en we stellen de vraag of er bijvoorbeeld vanaf de streetfood kaart een ander gerecht kunnen kiezen. Dat blijkt niet mogelijk en er wordt niet meegedacht in alternatieven. Jammer. De gedwongen gekozen vega gerechten smaken overigens prima maar waren niet de eerste keus. Het duurt meer dan een uur voordat het hoofdgerecht wordt geserveerd. Iets te lang in onze beleving. De hoofdgerechten smaken prima maar niet uitstekend en de door een tafel genoot gekozen snoekbaars is voor wat betreft de hoeveelheid wel erg karig. Bij het dessert gaat MJ volledig de mist in. Een tafelgenoot geeft aan uitsluitend vanille-ijs te willen. Wanneer het dessert even later wordt geserveerd wordt er één bol vanille-ijs geserveerd. Het dessert staat in het menu voor 8 euro op de kaart, twee bolletjes ijs is dan toch het minste wat je verwacht. Nadat we de avond afsluiten met gemengde gevoelens en thuis de rekening controleren zien we dat er voor het ijs onder de kop “ keuken diversen” nog eens 2,50 euro in rekening is gebracht. Ofwel er is 10,50 euro betaald voor één bol vanille-ijs. Te gek voor woorden maar het sluit goed aan bij het gevoel dat we aan de avond hebben overgehouden, MJ is het allemaal nét niet. Jammer. UPDATE MJ heeft snel en professioneel gereageerd op mijn review. Op basis daarvan heb ik sterren voor service verhoogd van twee naar drie. We gaan binnenkort nogmaals ervaren dat gastvrijheid bij MJ met hoofdletters wordt geschreven.
