We visited Restaurant de Moerbei to celebrate our two-year anniversary and had a fantastic evening! We were able to sit outside, which was truly perfect given the warm weather. We opted for the five-course all-inclusive package with wine, and every course was an impressive taste sensation. The unique combinations were surprising, and the wines complemented them perfectly. Even a seemingly simple dish like artichoke with mushrooms was truly amazing. The fact that the chef himself came to serve the main course made the experience extra special, and the dish was truly sublime. As an extra surprise, we received a specially made mini-dessert after the main course. An incredibly thoughtful gesture that we thoroughly enjoyed! The service was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. All in all, a wonderful evening that exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back!

The sauces and flavors are perfect. The preparation method and the meat and fish used are somewhat less so.

It was our first time dining there, and it was really worth it. Top-notch cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. A young team with a lot of knowledge, and the chefs even come to the table. Very nice! And the food (with accompanying wines) was fantastic! Thanks for this wonderful evening.

Under summery conditions, we were able to enjoy the 4-course lunch on the outdoor terrace. The culinary dishes were once again creative and exquisite in taste. A special feature was the presence of Gerko, an old acquaintance and former waiter at Het Havenkwartier in Katwijk aan Zee. All in all, it is a good example for a Michelin-starred restaurant. So, definitely recommended for foodies 👍👍👍

De Moerbei continues to improve. The dishes on the menu (lobster, asparagus, trout, and lamb) are a feast for the eyes, but above all rich in flavor and perfectly prepared. The Nouvelle Vague champagne is beautifully rich in fruit, and afterwards we enjoy a high-quality red melon. The ambiance is as wonderful as ever, and the staff warm and welcoming. A great experience!

A charming old building modernized under new owners. The fresh breeze is also noticeable in the kitchen, with modern dishes that are well-seasoned. The portions are just right, and the wines are chosen with love to complement the dish, but also the guest's taste. You shouldn't miss the North Sea crab caviar!

We had a truly excellent experience at De Moerbei. From the moment of arrival to the final dish, everything was taken care of down to the last detail. The dishes were of an exceptionally high standard: refined, surprising, and beautifully presented. The location also contributes to the experience — the charming, characterful "upstairs room" in the former farmhouse gives the restaurant an intimate and stylish atmosphere. The service also deserves high praise: attentive, professional, and at the same time warm and relaxed. The only minor point of attention is the acoustics in this intimate space. With a larger group, the noise level sometimes became a bit too pronounced, although this did little to detract from our enjoyable time together. Nevertheless, we look back on a wonderful culinary experience and will gladly return here again.

The food was delicious, and all courses were perfectly coordinated. When we got cold on the outdoor terrace, the excellent staff gave us a warm blanket. In short, when we have something to celebrate again, we'll be back.

WOW. The Netherlands is not necessarily known for haute cuisine, and many would think that the best restaurants would only be in Amsterdam. Well, anyone who immediately agrees with that perspective hasn't visited the establishment of De Moerbei. First, let's make sure we recognize the two maestros, Frank de Haas and Michael Corpel. They are young, talented, and recent owners of this successful establishment that began earning Michelin stars in 2009 and has survived through covid. Michael is artistically brilliant in his edible presentations, and Frank is an absolute wizard with wines. Together, they have gone all in on this fantastic gem of a restaurant, and they are only going up. On a stunningly beautiful April evening, following a day among the tulips, we snuck out just beyond the charming city of Leiden to meet Michael and Frank at De Moerbei and enjoy an incredible performance of enticing dishes. We had bouliabase and champagne. We had a flight of tiny crudité with caviar. We experienced a lobster in ajo blanco that made me want to cry. We also had poetic local lamb, and a masterful fois gras, which was very elegant, but I adored the tender white asparagus and delicate rhubarb dessert even more. My personal favorite type of restaurant is one where the local food is cherished by the chefs, and they want nothing more than to share that food with you. This is that type of restaurant, where you are eating butter and lamb from minutes down the road, paired with exquisite wines from halfway around the world. If you are wise enough to get out of Amsterdam to really enjoy the pastoral pleasures of the Netherlands (especially in tulip season) you absolutely must enjoy De Moerbei.

My partner and I enjoyed a delicious lunch. For me, the appetizer, the locally caught pike-perch, was the highlight. The service was friendly and efficient, with excellent explanations of the wines. A small tip: for ladies, bring a small table or something similar to rest your handbag on (so you don't have to put it on the flatbread).

A wonderful culinary spot. The vegetable menu is fantastic, and it can really compete with the scallops, sweetbreads, etc. I found De Moerbei thanks to the Were Smart Green Guide. They have three radishes in it, and as far as I'm concerned, they deserve four.

A more than pleasant surprise! Interesting flavor combinations that, in our opinion, were spot on. French cuisine with a strong Asian (especially Japanese) twist. Rich, beautiful flavors. Add to that the attentive service, parking right outside, and excellent value: a big plus from us!

Worth a visit, friendly staff and superb food

We had a wonderful evening; we received a very warm welcome, making you feel instantly at home. There's a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of room for personal conversation. They clearly put a lot of effort into flavor combinations, the quality of the products, the wine pairings, and the excellent service. The various courses were clearly explained clearly. Everything was perfectly balanced, and it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the staff. I definitely recommend De Moerbei!

I predict that this restaurant will have a 2nd star in '26 or '27 latest if they continue on this path. Of all the 1 star Michelin restaurants that my wife and I have eaten at in the past few months the Moerbei stands out with head and shoulders. I don't know what it was, perhaps it was the tons of beurre blanc but every single dish was an absolute delight, we literally could not find a fault in a single dish. On top of that the restaurant is surprisingly affordable for a 1 star Michelin restaurant. We were a party of 5 people and we paid 300EUR p.p. and I lost count of how many bottles of Champagne and Port we went through. The only downside is the noise volume, but I don't blame the restaurant for this but the Dutch patrons, the Dutch are loud talkers, love my Dutch fam! PS. I have not forgotten to send the sommelier a box of Franciacorta.

Both were very friendly - attentive and with an eye for detail! 💰5 courses, 2 wine pairings, water, and oysters as a starter was €610 for 3 people, including tip. A normal price in this segment. 🍽️Vegetarian and the regular 5-course dinner. The vegetarian lady has never eaten at a Michelin-starred restaurant and, like me, has a new hobby. Crossing off Michelin-starred restaurants, so as far as she's concerned, a success. I had the MULBERRY menu: 1️⃣North Sea Crab (8/10) Sobrasada - Kimchi - Crab Cake Very tasty, beautifully presented, but not exceptional. I personally thought the little jar looked a bit odd. It reminded me of a toilet bowl 🫣 2️⃣Weever (7/10) Tomato - Pine Nuts - Potato Well-seasoned, perfectly cooked; I just found the sauce too buttery for my liking. 3️⃣Sweetbread (8/10) Cecina de Léon - Tortilla - Bell Pepper Never had this before, a bit of an odd texture for me, but well-flavored and balanced with the rest of the plate. 4️⃣Duck Breast (9/10) Corn - Romanesco Delicious! Beautifully presented and with those hard-to-find vegetables - ROMANESCO 5️⃣Raspberry (10/10) Ras el hanout - white chocolate Best of the evening - red fruit at its finest. Perfect balance of sweet and sour. 🍷Excellent wines, clear explanations. The glasses were also designed to accommodate the designated driver! 🅿️ Free on-site delivery 🚽 Very clean - neatly decorated and cotton towels for drying hands. 📋In summary, a good performer in its class (8/10)

Very nice and tasty dishes, service was correct and friendly

The restaurant is located close to the water. It has a big garden with terrace and a private parking. The service was definitely 5 stars; kind and making a connection. The sommelier had some great stories and the chefs also came to the table to serve dishes. We loved 5 of the 6 courses, especially the sauces were really high on taste and we really enjoyed it! The one dish we found lagging a bit was the cheese platter. The goat cheese was really dry and the fig bread was also a bit dry. There was no compote or something to make it less dry. Second cheese was a bit blend and the blue cheese missed the “punch” in my opinion. Also one of the two wine pairings was not to my preferred tasting (I know, that’s personal). I found it to be a bit “petrol” tasting. All in all the experience was five stars, five out of six dishes were five stars and most of the wines were five stars as well. Why a four star total? Because at this price point and the Michelin star I was hoping for everything to fall into place. We spend about € 185 per person. This asks for everything to be excellent in my opinion. But; we will surely return because you do get a great evening with very good food!

Great experience at De Moerbei. For our 20th wedding anniversary we organized a dinner here with our loved ones. Everything was arranged down to the last detail. The host pampered us from the moment we entered to the moment we handed in our coats. We had a 6-course surprise menu. The chef and other cooks regularly come to the table to serve the dishes. The food is of a reasonable standard. I have not been surprised by any of the courses in terms of taste or structure. Often the same cream/ointment throughout the corridors. Crockery is “old school” but that goes well with the interior. The website has been on the website since 1996….but that is also for the interior. Stripes of wallpaper, heavy curtains, bad linst (although that is certainly debatable), worn chair backs, toilet was from the farm days, I think, but the biggest letdown was the poor lighting. Just halogen spotlights, you can't make that up. Service was reasonable. The sum was good and pleasant, the lady was wearing eraleten sneakers and was dusty. Come on Michellin, if this is the level you are losing your credibility. I have eaten at many stars but this was a 4.4/10. This week we had a delicious dinner with friends at De Moerbei. What is always striking is the warm welcome and the almost homely atmosphere. The creations of the kitchen brigade were very surprising and particularly tasty and it was good that the chefs regularly presented and explained their dishes themselves. In short, another wonderful experience that we would like to repeat again soon.

Ate here last year, everything went excellently, as you would expect. Now, with new ownership, it has not reached the level you would expect from a Michelin restaurant. Waiting longer for the various courses, forgetting once to put down cutlery on time while serving was taking place. In addition, the courses were often served with similar sauces, which created monotony.
