Noor Groningen in Hoogkerk e.o.

A beautiful building, with modern decor in an old church. The acoustics are poor, and the sound reverberates heavily off the ceiling, making it difficult to hear people three tables away, but impossible to have a conversation at your own table. The entire experience leaves much to be desired. The food quality is reasonable, definitely not Michelin-star worthy, and the menu is uninspired (perhaps due to the summer sale?). The service is poor and rushed. Upon arrival, you wait for minutes while staff walks past and completely ignores you. You're then escorted to your table and offered an aperitif. The extra charge for bread and water is clearly stated, but the sparkling wine isn't. Upon checkout, it turns out to be €25 per glass of less than 75ml. Then the amuse-bouches are thrown on the table without any explanation other than "this is our finger food." The amuse-bouches taste fine, but they have a very anise-like flavor, which completely negates the flavor of the bubbles. A real shame, especially when the price of the bubbly is revealed on the bill. The starter was excellent, with a delicious Riesling in the wine pairing, paired wonderfully with the brook knight. The main course of venison stew was brought to the table by a non-Dutch speaker without any explanation. The gentleman also didn't know what the various sauces were made of and had to inquire with the kitchen. With a dish consisting of seven components, four of which are listed on the menu, the staff should know what the others are. The flavors were once again exquisite, a beautiful Italian red wine with a soulless explanation about lava stones. The entire dinner was rushed and hurried, not why you go to a good restaurant. We hadn't even finished the red wine when dessert was brought to the table (the second Riesling had initially been forgotten, but then again, there were still two half glasses of red). Strawberry, quark, and elderflower dessert. Frozen strawberries and goat's milk quark. When I made the reservation, I mentioned my allergy to goat cheese (I know quark and cheese aren't the same thing, but they're so closely related that this should have been discussed). It was terrible. Dessert should have been a special treat, but it was a disappointment, and I had a stomach upset for a day because of the goat's milk quark. All in all, a decent meal, but definitely not star-worthy. It's a shame.

At the end of 2023, we received a €200 gift certificate. Due to a world trip, we weren't able to redeem it within a year. The certificate has since expired. Unfortunately, Noor isn't willing to offer any compensation. What a shame.

Stay away if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions. Giving 3 stars since I’m sure the experience and food would have been wonderful if the service could have accommodated me. I would rather give 1 star but I’m trying to be fair. I booked a reservation at Noor and noted that I am allergic to peanuts. Mind you that peanuts are very easily avoided unlike some other more serious foods. A few days before my reservation, I was sent a reminder email of my upcoming lunch and that if there were any allergies to accommodate, I needed to let them know. I told them I have a peanut allergy for the second time and they told me that they prefer not to accommodate any allergies but will do their best. I found this incredibly rude to not want to accommodate me even though I gave them 3 weeks notice at my first reservation request. They told me that the current menu did not contain any peanuts, that the few items that may contain traces could be replaced for me, but that they just simply don’t want to accommodate allergies and that it was at my own risk. For a Michelin star restaurant, this is not Michelin star service. I have been to Michelin star restaurants before and was always taken seriously, accommodated, and made to feel safe in their environment. This was incredibly disappointing and unprofessional. I cancelled my reservation and did not dine here over the fact that myself as a customer was unwanted.

What a unique experience...a sensory experience from start to finish: the beautiful entrance to the church, featuring a combination of stained glass and modern design, the welcome and the cuisine, and the warm, diverse service with abundant information and personalized attention. The dishes and wine are a journey in themselves. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

The food was fantastic! You can taste and feel the Michelin star in everything. We felt completely at ease, and the service was fantastic!

We enjoyed the summer menu, which included three courses and three appetizers. My husband had the wine pairing. As an added bonus, we enjoyed delicious homemade sourdough bread, and to finish, we had coffee/tea and sweets. The Madeleine cake was fantastic. We received a friendly welcome, and each course and wine pairing was explained.

Took advantage of the summer offer. A three-course meal for €55 per person. After a welcome drink, two slices of bread, water, and three glasses of wine each, it ended up costing €270. The food was fine, and so was the wine, but they rushed through a standard explanation, gave no interaction, and made for a lousy experience. They had an hour and a half to spare, and they easily made it. After an hour, everything was finished, but coffee wasn't allowed. In short, a lousy concept, and Noor lost a potential customer.

You have to make reservations, and well in advance at that, which is the only negative about this restaurant. However, considering the food on offer, it's perfectly reasonable: everyone wants to eat here! With delicious food, impeccable service, and plenty of personal attention, this is definitely recommended.

Delicious food and beautifully presented, but seriously...? We're leaving at 7:30, the wine hasn't even finished yet, and we have to pay at 7:15, and there's no way we can even have a cappuccino. Sorry, but that's just not part of a relaxed dinner. And even if it's on sale, it's still not cheap! My tip: start at 5:30 😉.

We had a truly enjoyable 3-course summer special meal! The cannelloni with deer stew and chanterelle mushrooms was the star – it was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, truly transporting me back to my time in Stockholm. The dessert was also fantastic, with its creamy texture and striking design-unique shape reminiscent of roof lighting. But the real showstopper? The warm, fragrant madeleine, smelling of butter and vanilla, it was pure perfection and the absolute highlight of our night. The sourdough bread was also excellent. Additionally, l have to say: the very best flat white in the town! served really hot, l hate cold served cappuccinos, flat whites, special thanks for this 🤩 A few small suggestions for an even better experience: we really missed having a drink menu to help us choose wines and discover your non-alcoholic options, l saw it later on your website. The slow-cooked salmon starter fell a bit flat; it needs more character; perhaps a touch of sourness, spice, sweetness, or umami to give it a distinctive taste. The wine pairing was just okay. l am sure there are much better rated options around. Despite these minor points, the staff were polite and friendly, which greatly enhanced the experience. l am wondering if chefs had worked before in Scandinavian countries and Italy? was a really successful fusion. We'd love to come back again!

In an enchanting ambience of clean lines, surrounded by the sense of modernity in a small church converted into a wonderful venue, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our seats for the next few hours. A journey full of culinary surprises began; with each course of our 8-course menu, we were increasingly enchanted by the exceptional combinations of flavors and textures. The visual presentation consistently underscored the finesse and clarity of the flavor compositions; at no point did the presentation take precedence over the flavors. Rounded off by a first-class sommelier and the outstanding, always attentive, and extremely friendly service, this evening was an unforgettable experience – clearly 2-star quality!

Every little detail made sense, every carefully thought through and executed flawlessly. Not a moment of 'waiting' for smth. Just flow. I still can't really put in words what happened to my mind and body sensory systems, but it feels like this 'before and after' kind of thing when perception is changed and you never go back to how it was. Hope that the owners will see and hear what I mean beyond the humble form of words. Thank you for creating a world of mindblowing exquisite food that leaves such a deep impression on so many levels.

An unforgettable evening at Restaurant Noor Last night we had dinner at Restaurant Noor in Groningen, and what an experience! We sat at the exclusive Chef's Table, with a direct view of the open kitchen in the beautifully renovated Theresia Chapel. The atmosphere is unique: stylish, serene, yet warm and welcoming. Chefs Marleen and Jeroen Brouwer delivered a culinary spectacle with their surprise menu, which was full of refined flavors and creative combinations. Every dish, from the delicate mackerel with bergamot to the buttery sea bass, was a work of art, perfectly balanced with fresh acidity and local ingredients. The interaction with the chefs from our place at the Chef's Table made it extra special; their passion and craftsmanship shine through. The wine, carefully chosen by sommelier Nick, was spot-on and lifted the dishes to a higher level. The staff were attentive and created a relaxed atmosphere despite the high culinary standard. Noor is an absolute must for those who want to experience gastronomy at the highest level. We will definitely come back!

Nice restaurant in a beautiful location just outside Groningen. The old chapel has been converted into a luxurious star restaurant, with top quality dishes. A little more interaction between Chef and hostess and his guests can improve the experience, after all, they are the cooking stars of today. The menu itself was fine, but we probably thought it was a bit too acidic throughout the menu. There was a lack of variety, especially with the dessert. a sweetener, to keep and get more balance in the menu. Otherwise a top tent, with pleasant service.

I still work part-time in Rest cooling technology. Noor is a customer of mine for the refrigeration, so I come into the kitchen and see, for example, the preparations and making of the products. Always said with a joke that they are "liflafjes" and you leave hungry at the end of the evening, We have discussed it regularly with the owner, come and experience it! It is an experience and not just eating out. It had been on our "Bucket list" for a long time to eat in a star restaurant. Always thought that this is not for "ordinary people", well what a big mistake! We went there to have dinner for my girl's birthday. I take everything back, it WAS an experience even for the "ordinary man". Everything is top notch, the kitchen, the service, the ambiance and the food. Most of the kitchen and service are "young", but the passion with which they serve you and the food is unprecedented. The owners [Jeroen and Marleen] really love what they do, are warm-hearted and despite the MICHELIN star, they have both feet on the ground. Pampering people culinary I have added to my Bucket list: :YET ANOTHER TIME TO REST.NOOR! And that will happen.

Restaurant Noor is located in a beautiful location and undoubtedly focuses on refinement and quality. The flavors in the dishes are subtle, well balanced and show that there is a lot of craftsmanship in the kitchen. What was particularly impressive was the work of the sommelier: where a dish on the plate sometimes seemed a bit safe or ordinary, he managed to take everything to a higher level with a perfect choice of wine. His knowledge, flair and timing made our evening — an absolute highlight that made all the difference. Cherish him! However, there are also some serious points of attention, especially given the high price level. At a restaurant in this price range you want every detail to be correct. It was therefore noticeable that some staff members were wearing worn-out white sneakers — which conflicts with the intended elegance of the evening. In addition, the team looked tense; a smile or a little playfulness could have made the experience lighter and warmer. Unfortunately, the acoustics in the restaurant are not optimal: the sound bounces back loudly, which can disrupt conversations at neighboring tables. The high pace at which the courses were served also sometimes took the peace out of the dinner. Add to that the rather pricey upselling, and it feels a bit too commercial at times. In short: beautiful setting, impressive wine-food combinations and refined flavors — but the restaurant could pay a little more attention to atmosphere, relaxation and consistency in finishing to really offer a top experience.

It was a great experience. Location is beautiful, service friendly and accurate. And the food is excellent. The appetizers were fantastic and further stimulated our curiosity about the menu. And it did not disappoint. Highly recommended in Groningen. What we also really appreciated were the local / Dutch products, including the cheese.

Unique experience. I must honestly admit that in these types of restaurants I always find it a shame that everything has a price tag. Would you like a glass of water? Would you like an amuse-bouche? Do you want to breathe? That is 75 euros. I'm exaggerating but you get my point. If you offer me a glass of water, I regret finding out afterwards that I paid a lot of money for it. The food is truly delicious. But keep in mind that you will spend significantly more than you expected in advance.

For my birthday and also my first retirement day, this was offered to me by my partner and two other table companions. We had a great evening from start to finish. I had some difficulty with my poor English, which is why I had some difficulty with the explanation. This was resolved immediately. Too bad for the very kind young man. Upon entering Noor restaurant, one is immediately surprised by the modern and peaceful atmosphere. The restaurant is located in a special space that, after walking through the kitchen, offers a setting that feels both intimate and refined. The ambiance is beautiful, but remarkably quiet, so you almost have the tendency to speak in a whisper. This contributes to the serene experience, but may seem a bit uncomfortable to some guests. The dinner itself was a culinary highlight. The dishes were all surprising and tasty, with the amuse of chicken liver with hibiscus and cherry particularly standing out. The preparation of the roe was also sublime, which is a testament to the craftsmanship in the kitchen. The flavors were refined and the presentation excellent. Unfortunately, the service was a bit disappointing. The service was impersonal and there seemed little interest in the guests. This became especially noticeable when we were the last table and were repeatedly asked if we wanted coffee, friandises or something else, while I was still eating my dessert. This gave us an uncomfortable feeling, as if we were being rushed to leave. It made for an unpleasant ending to an otherwise successful evening. All in all, Noor offers a wonderful culinary experience, but there is certainly room for improvement in the hospitality and pace of service.

Please note: detailed review! My wife and I had dinner at Noor's yesterday. Once at the table we were asked if we wanted Champagne as an aperitif. That was not necessary for us and it turns out that we saved us €50! This set the tone a bit: in addition to the chosen menu, you regularly have to refuse (or accept) carelessly offered extras throughout the evening, which can be quite expensive!). Even before desert we were asked if we wanted friandises with coffee. Ask that after desert! One of the previous reviewers already made the striking comparison with Easyjet, where you buy a ticket and then have to click away all kinds of extras. First the five appetizers: The chicken liver/hibiscus/cherries entrance: delicious in taste and texture, but the base is a bit too thick and hard, so you have to chew it away at the end. The Remeker amuse could have been a little more pronounced in relation to the coffee, which was now a bit too subtle. Thirdly, a tartelette with filet americain and piccalilly ice cream: surprising and delicious! Then the koshihikari with beetroot ice cream: excellent! Very surprising, beautiful flavors, different textures and temperatures, a hit! Then a bisque of beach crabs and vadouvan: delicious! Then the mackerel tartare with tomato: delicious subtle flavors, but the wafer in the middle was a bit too tough and difficult to cut, causing you to push the entire tart apart. In between, sourdough bread was served with Guernsey butter and sea salt. The bread had very good taste and texture! The butter was delicious too! Then scallop with, among other things, frozen pearls of smoked yogurt: in short, worthy of a star! After this, the much-praised 5 preparations of celeriac, accompanied by a cool story from a visibly proud young chef. One of the highlights, because with a simple basic ingredient a very convincing dish with a beautiful story is created! This was followed by wild sea bass with seaweeds, mussels and broccoli. The broccoli overpowered the seaweed a little too much, but the fish was excellent! Then the Mushroom risotto with various mushrooms, including black winter truffle. Tasty, but the risotto a bit overcooked. Not adventurous; Using expensive ingredients does not immediately make something a culinary masterpiece. After this, deer calf in Zeeland bacon. Boring, not many different textures. Finally, a sorbet with mango, rice porridge and earl gray. The Austrian Spätlese complemented the dish perfectly. It's a pity that the wine was only served after repeatedly seeking eye contact, when we had already half finished our desert. We are happy that we finally ate at Noor, but we do have some comments: although the food is largely very good, the prices are on the high side. Even tap water costs €7.50 per person! The most important thing, however, is the missing 'story', the mutual coherence of the sometimes unexciting dishes. What does Noor stand for? Moreover, the atmosphere is not warm and cordial, the staff is professionally friendly, but distant. It feels quite stiff and uncomfortable. We felt more like customers than guests! Although the quality of the food was good to very good, Noor was unable to meet our high expectations in all other aspects (creativity, conviction, ambiance, hospitality).

The Chef's Table was enjoyed by the two of us. What an experience. Magisterial dishes. The relaxed atmosphere in the kitchen that you can see is reflected on your plate. Very worthy of the Michelin star! Marleen and Jeroen put up a picture of a restaurant. What knowledgeable and kind people.

A cozy restaurant in an old church building. Welcoming reception, surprising flavors where, unlike in many other star restaurants, the dishes are brought to the table by the chefs themselves. A good and expert explanation, nice. In short, a place where you will come back again!

Yesterday we were wonderfully pampered by Noor's staff. You enter through the kitchen and walk straight to the restaurant. That's a lot of fun and then you are greeted by the chef and his team. We had a table by the window where we could look directly into the kitchen and watch the preparations. Very nice. We had the Chef's Table Menu and this did not disappoint. A few dishes stood out for us: In terms of appetizers: chicken liver with hibiscus and cherry (photo 1) fillet American with Piccalilly and egg yolk (photo 3) but high light for me Koshihikari rice that was warm, topped with a hollandaise (with?..) lukewarm and topped with beetroot ice cream (photo 4 /5) Both different temperatures and textures, but taste-wise really great! Probably my favorite flavors of the entire evening! Delicious preparation (quickly by the way) for the next 8 courses (9 if cheese is added) Of the 8 courses, all very tasty, a few stood out for us. The mackerel was delicious with the sweet/fresh tomato. Then scallop with delicious sauce and pearls (frozen) yogurt. Followed by tasty oyster (I normally don't like that but I thought I'd try again and have the tastiest oyster I've had). My husband was really excited about this dish. Then 'old friend' celeriac with fantastic goat yoghurt sauce. Risotto was also a delicious autumnal savory dish that did not disappoint. Then sea bass and then roe. Both delicious too. We opted for cheese (because we still had some room). Of these, 4 very tasty. But in retrospect I don't think it was worth 25 euros per person. Dessert was fine, but it was something I wouldn't have to eat again, so this one (among the other super dishes) was perhaps a bit disappointing. In terms of number 7. The bread (sourdough with a 105 day old starter) was really delicious and we got extra! The wines were tasty with nice explanations. All in all, we felt wonderfully spoiled! The atmosphere of the restaurant could be a bit better in terms of lighting. I have seen this more atmospheric elsewhere. Definitely recommend this restaurant. We had already eaten at Loohoeve in 2019 but were certainly surprised in terms of flavors and the dishes/quality has been developed! Good luck!

Last Saturday I was able to experience Noor for an afternoon as a birthday present. Each dish was a small gift and each equally surprising. I can't call it 'eating out' but rather an afternoon of culinary art, both in terms of composition of ingredients and presentation, and the friendly chefs and employees who explained passionately. Great lunch. Beautiful combinations of flavors, delicious wines and relaxed employees who make you feel very welcome. Highly recommended and definitely worth repeating.

To start with the good part: the food was excellent and the location is great, very unique and stylish. What we did not like: we had the “Autumn menu” and the stuff were constantly trying to upsell additional options. At some point it felt like buying a low cost flight ticket and having to deselect all the extras.. and this ruined the atmosphere quite a bit. In the end, they charged us for an upgrade (re the appetizer drink) that we were not aware that we chose/ accepted.

Beginning with when we walked in, very warm welcome from the staff and passing through the kitchen, everyone also greet to us. The atmosphere is really nice and beautiful interiors. The dishes are very creatief, the combination of flavors are also very interesting. I also like the drinks which they made themselves to match with the dish. The taste overall is not heavy, mostly fresh and sour in the base. My husband loves the bread which made from Marleen herself, the owner. She showed us the yeast dough she made and even gave my hubby extra bread. The service is great and we really enjoyed this evening.

It's been a while since we enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Noor. The food was very special, and every course was a special tasty surprise. What kept me happy in addition to the delicious food, the beautiful matching wines and the beautiful ambiance is the smooth and very hospitable service. We will definitely come back! Recommended!

It was a fantastic experience. Great staff that explain what they serve you with interesting details, both for food and drinks. Everything was very tasty and all flavour combinations were special and meticulous. It is the type of meal that inspires you to do better with food, which is a nice reminder to get.

It was always on my bucket list to do something amazing like this, so we did! What an amazing night we had yesterday at Gault & Millau & Michelin star restaurant Noor Groningen. We went in with a completely blank mind and wow, we were astonished by the whole lot of it. The building, an old church actually, ambiance, the team of owner, sommelier, waiters and cooks, just like a well oiled machine and filling in for eachother perfectly. It was even way above my expectations, and those were already pretty high to be honest! Every dish was accompanied by a unique and perfectly fitting wine, I’ve never had such combinations of food and wine before, it was so precisely. Every time we got an upcoming dish the cook that made it explained the ingredients but also the way of cooking and even where the ingredients came from in a very extensive way. The same for the wines, at every dish the sommelier came to pour us a glass of wine, explaining exactly where it came from, how it was grown in the country of origin and on which soil and also for how long it was being preserved, for example on oak. I do regret not taking pictures of the wine labels now, but when you are in such a moment, you just don’t want to get your phone out. Very well deserved that they have a white star on the star wine list. Besides every dish looked beautiful, the taste was also beyond anything I could ever expect, the taste changed constantly while you were eating, so surprising how food can be made into pieces of art. Maybe even too beautiful to eat, but we still did it, oops. The most impressive where that some dishes were made with some really local but also simple ingredients, you never think something this amazing would come out of celeriac, but it was probably the best dish of the night. And that comes from me as non vegetarian and a meat and fish lover!
