Old Scuola West in Rotterdam Centrum

We popped in specifically for dessert, but were immediately greeted rudely. They told us there was no room available because they were out of dough – even though we clearly stated we only wanted something sweet. Instead of offering an alternative, we were simply curtly and rudely dismissed. Even though there were tables available without reserved signs. It's a shame, because that kind of reception doesn't exactly make you want to come back.

Excellent pizza one of the most tasty i have ever had

Pizzas are always delicious! This spot by the water is absolutely fantastic. We had a wonderful drinks party with friends. The staff was friendly and quick, but they were incredibly busy. Inside, the whole place was full of glasses, but the speed of service was impeccable.

Discovered by chance and enjoyed the sunset with delicious pizza and wine

First of all, the neighborhood is absolutely charming, and the decor of the place matches perfectly: industrial yet minimalist, quite classy, ​​but you're accepted as you are (no formal attire required, even though the place is magnificent). The pizzas (cooked in a pizza oven) were simply excellent; they didn't disappoint. The staff was very friendly.

Rude staff. Used to come here and highly recommend it to others but I no longer will after my friends and I were treated today. Miscommunication which could have easily been solved.

We had a delicious mushroom pizza. We drank a glass of wine for €6.80, but I thought they poured a rather rudely small amount. They did refill our glasses, but I find it unacceptable that it was initially served like that. We'll see what happens next time. When we were seated, no one paid any attention to our drinks or menu requests. They just walked past without looking. After waiting too long, someone finally showed up, and thankfully, friendly service. The music was very good, but there was no noise. One of us had a nearly empty glass taken away while we were all looking the other way while the table was being cleared.

The atmosphere is great, and the staff exudes enthusiasm. Our waiter was exceptionally friendly, gave great tips, and clearly enjoyed his work. The pizza (San Daniele with burrata) was served in no time and was excellent. It tasted exactly like something I'd eaten in Naples – I didn't expect to find this in the Netherlands. The tiramisu also exceeded all my expectations. In short, a fantastic experience, and I have a new favorite. Highly recommended!

From Sunday, August 10th, to Thursday, August 14th, we stayed at Daniel Den Hoed. This was due to my father undergoing yet another operation. On Sunday and Monday, we received excellent and friendly service from the wonderful staff. After the Erasmus visit, it was nice to sit down for a drink with my mother to recover from the day. Unfortunately, I was quite shocked by the person who initially approached us on Tuesday, because there's a partnership for discounts offered to guests at Daniel Den Hoed. At 9:00 PM, a specific blond man told us we couldn't join and that only those already seated would be served. Tuesday, August 12th, was also my birthday. After explaining this, we did get a table, but the service wasn't exactly friendly. The young man who brought our drinks, however, was very polite. Wednesday, August 13th, was supposed to be our last evening in Rotterdam, and I wanted to have a drink with my mom and an aunt. Once again, we were helped by this particular blond-haired person, who told us in a rather unfriendly manner, this time that there was no room and everything was reserved. In the four days we sat on your terrace every day, it was already empty by 9 p.m. Yet, almost every table had a reserved sign. During these days, we also discovered that no one ever sat at the tables that were supposedly reserved. I felt unwelcome by this person for two days in a row. I'm deeply disappointed that people with a lot on their minds and sitting in Daniel denhoed's room are treated this way. The rest of the staff were treated very politely, thank you.

Incredibly arrogant staff, especially the male server with blond hair. I won't spend another cent at this place. He has absolutely no interest in working and throws plates at your table. I'd recommend looking for new staff! And I'd recommend the staff find a job they enjoy.

First and foremost: the food was absolutely delicious! We ordered a pizza funghi and a pizza short rib, both of which were fantastic in flavor and had a perfect texture. When I paid, I asked if I could take home an Italian Blonde beer (from the restaurant itself) because I hadn't tried it yet. To my surprise, they offered it on the house. In short: a fantastic experience!

The food was delicious, but the service was truly subpar. The "manager" behind the bar is snappy with anyone without a reservation. Comments like "Well, you've learned your lesson for next time" and "Tell those guests at the table to move" don't make you feel very welcome. The table service seemed to be on their first day, but they did their best and were friendly.

Made a reservation and had to wait. It was a terrible experience, but the location is nice and trendy by the water. The menu is trendy but limited. The staff quickly delivered a tough, soggy pizza. We had to keep asking for cutlery, for example. Definitely not again.

Awful service. We wanted to get a table but had not booked. The guy said we had a 30 min wait—no guarantees, maybe 60 min. Fine, can we seat at the bar and have a drink? No. Ok, do you have list to write our name? No. So how do you know it’s 30 min wait? No answer. Basically stand on the street and wait and be lucky you get the table once it’s free and not the people who happened to talk to the guy at the right moment. The guy was dismissive and arrogant. We didn’t stay. Walked for 12 min to Trattoria Sophia which had great pizza and wine and fantastic service.

Great location in the edge of Little C complex. You have a great view of Coolhaven and especially on summer or sunny days it's one of the best spots in the area to sit outside and enjoy a drink or pizza. Nice selection of wines and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Good menu of pizzas (vegetarian options as well) with interesting selection of ingredients, so not the typical, standard pizzas you find in many restaurants. Only the crust was not too crunchy for my taste. The selection of antipasti could also be a bit richer. Service was ok. Fast and friendly service, but I find it a bit odd to be charged for a bottled tap water. Moreover, it might be a bit better for the customer to offer something more than just a glass with a pair of cutlery and napkins.

Male staff is extremely rude. I know bad days exist, but don't work in hospitality if you can't behave remotely polite

Please avoid this place if you can. Never have I been scared off by staff like this before. My friends and I came to dine on a Sunday evening. We saw the restaurant was quite busy, so inquired inside for a free table. The host gave us a very cold attitude, only answering in 1 word sentences and rushing us off to a table outside. When we sat down a waiter assumed we had not asked first to be seated first and accused us of ‘just sitting down without permission’. This is the opposite of hospitality.

Never had such an unpleasant experience with staff. Two staff members (males) were straight up rude and not welcoming at all. We didn't have a reservation, but tables were free and no other people were waiting, a staff member was very sassy when he showed us our table and didn't even say welcome. Second staff member also had an attitude asking us if we were helped or "just took the table". We left immediately. If you can't be nice, don't work in hospitality.

We were really looking forward to dining here, the location is great, and we had high hopes. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The staff inside was overly sassy, avoided eye contact, and spoke to us in a degrading tone, switching between two languages in a way that felt dismissive rather than helpful. Sadly, the staff outside wasn’t any better. He came across as rude and completely uninterested in working or helping us in any way. The entire interaction felt unpleasant and unwelcoming. We left feeling disrespected and uncomfortable. With service like this, we won’t be returning, and we won’t be visiting any of its other restaurants either.

Beautiful location. Strange menu with limited choices, and I'm not happy with the drinks. Not even a coke available. No pasta, which was advertised on the website. A few pizzas, but tasty. Cocktails also limited, expensive, and not my taste. In short, I won't be going back.

We went on a sunny day, so we sat outside and had a lovely meal. The evening was very enjoyable, service was good, the staff were very attentive even though it was busy. You do sit close next to other tables, but this allowed for nice conversations with strangers. Food was solid like their other locations. We had Bolognese arancini (halal), short rib pizza, and melanzane pizza. The elderflower lemonade was delicious ㅤᵕ̈

Went there today and the service people were rude. We didn’t have a reservation so they said we can’t sit outside in the sun but can only sit inside. When we went inside another service person said that we can’t either sit inside. Many tables were free, about one third of the space…

This place is absolutely perfect to spend your sunny afternoon. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It is right by the little C which makes up for a great view you can enjoy while sitting outside. The cocktails are also amazing and super refreshing. Overall definitely recommend it! Lette and Frizzi are especially kind!!

We ordered two pizzas. They tasted good, the edge crust was nice. But the centers of both pizzas were totally soggy. Maybe that's how they are supposed to be. But they were not to our liking.

Really good pizza and really nice location especially sitting at the terrace on a nice sunny day!! Waiter was passive aggressive when we asked for more menus saying that they don’t usually have menu for each person (???) can’t tell if he was trying to be funny. Toilet is dirty thats for sure.

It was very fun experience! The stuff is very accommodating and made our night very fun. We had an issue with our reservation and still got a spot, food was served on time. Overall a very good place to spend your evening, have great pizza, I got the short rib pizza but would definitely recommend the spicy salami one! It’s a topper!

The sunny location of Scuola west is fine. Service is downright bad. They are too few or completely uninterested. Do not clear tables. Do not give plates when serving food. Pizzas are very mediocre and do not compensate for all of the above.

The location is great! Right in the middle of some very new construction! The pizza I had wasn't great, but that's just me wanting to try something original. I think the other, more classic options are better. The dessert was good.

We had made a reservation at 19:00. You sit outside so close together that you are arm to arm with strangers and you can't even have a normal conversation. At 20:00 we asked a waitress ourselves that we would like to order. At 20:30 we got our pizzas that certainly tasted good. At 21:00 we asked a waitress ourselves that we would like to take the rest of the pizza with us and also wanted a tiramisu. At 21:20 we asked someone again because we didn't have anything yet, no box and no tiramisu. Then we were told that tiramisu could only be served in cardboard cups. We paid immediately after the tiramisu. The food was fine, the staff was really substandard and grumpy (sighing after a normal question etc.)

Family of 5, nice spot with view on the river, but seeing the staff carrying garbage along the terrace at least four times during dinner was a bit of a bummer. It just doesn’t look good and also somewhat unprofessional for a restaurant. A very long wait for the pizzas too.

I don't give 5 stars easily, but this was such a cozy and nice place that it couldn't have been otherwise ;) The location is ideal on the water with a cozy terrace. We arrived on a rainy Tuesday evening and were nice and warm and cozy inside. The service was great: we were helped very friendly and the staff really created a positive, relaxed atmosphere. It wasn't busy-busy, but pleasantly full, and we were helped quickly. And then for the food there is enough choice in starters and pizzas (I also saw vegan and vegetarian options). We both took one and that was more than enough. A classic Neapolitan style pizza and really delicious! We will definitely come back for the food, but also for the cozy atmosphere and the warm welcome.🥰

I was so excited to go back to your restaurant, but I was disappointed. Not in the food. The pizza will still remain my favourite pizza in Rotterdam. But the service quality (very poor), the dirty glasses, the dirty cutlery, the nonchalant service attitude and the filthy bathrooms just made the experience a poor experience. It is now easier for me to rather order your pizza online than go into the restaurant to eat. I will have a better experience at home.

After waiting 15 minutes we got up and walked away. Waitress walked past our table 8 times, looking at us but without saying anything. No, it wasn't busy.

Disappointing visit. Staff was not attentive and the tables dirty. Only after asking three times was it cleaned. One employee looked as if we were not welcome; luckily someone else took over later. The pizzas were lukewarm and the dough limp. If they can't handle the crowds, they shouldn't want to expand.

Old Scuola has so much potential — which makes it all the more disappointing that our experience fell short. We arrived on a sunny day and were warmly welcomed by two gentlemen inside. Great service! We were allowed to pick our own spot on the terrace, which was nice, but the mood quickly changed. After we moved to a different table outside, one of the waitresses was incredibly rude to us. It felt unnecessary and really took away from the sense of hospitality. On the bright side: the arancini bolognese was delicious. Big shoutout for offering a halal option! But things went downhill after that. We waited over 30 minutes for our pizza, which had clearly been sitting on the counter for quite a while. The dough had gone cold and the cheese had re-solidified like it had just come straight from the farm lol.

We sat outside on the terrace and really enjoyed the atmosphere — the pizzas were delicious and the homemade lemonade was refreshing. I still gave a 5-star rating because we had a lovely time, but I do think there’s room to improve. The menu is quite limited, so offering a bit more variety would be great. Also, it was a bit disappointing that they didn’t have decaf coffee available. Still, a charming place and worth visiting!

I have something to celebrate so I thought I'd check out the cool harbor at Old Skula, it's close to the Daniel den Hoed family home, so why not. Pleasantly busy on the terrace because of the nice weather. Delicious scampi eaten with slightly too hard toasted bread. Tiramissu for dessert. Blessed. Had 3 beers, the attentive waiter was super nice.

TLDR: I reserved on Uber Eats and literally waited 3 hours to be delivered (order at 7pm, delivery at 10pm). No way to know when I'd receive my pizzas. The delivery guy also had to wait in the dark the whole process. Kitchen guys refused to answer both our questions. All that for an above-average pizza that were emptier than my stomach. Find someplace else where they have some respect for their client.

Pizza is very tasty, but the service is really bad. We waited for our order for around 1,5 hours, even though we did it order a lot of dishes. Waiters kept forgetting our orders and weren't very friendly. Waiters and service in general are very unorganized and unprofessional.

I love this place and I’m often there since I live close by BUT I find it not wise to have only 2 people working on a Sunday afternoon, when it’s extremely busy. There are many delays and stress which the customers can feel. Hope it was just a coincidence this time ❤️

The location is great, especially the outdoor area on a sunny day, on sunset. However, I can’t say the same for the business itself. When a customer orders a drink and declines anything else, then you ask if they want water, I’d expect it to be complimentary. Charging for tap water served in an open glass with the restaurant’s name on it—not even bottled—is not cool. As for the food, the pizza was just okay. I didn’t love the dough as it wasn’t baked enough, and I didn’t like the sauce on the four-cheese pizza. This place is better suited for drinks outside rather than for food.

I ordered two pizzas and both arrived cold although the delivery was very fast and the distance less than a km. Furthermore the mozzarella in the Margherita smelled and tasted like fungus. I called to complain and the answer I got was that the smoked cheese (that they do not use in pizza margherita) might have a funky smell and that the fact that the delivery arrived cold was because of the delivery service because when they prepare the order they can not ensure that somebody will pick it up timely. I would be willing to consider the latter excuse valid if the delivery has not arrived that fast ( I placed it at 20:07 and had it delivered at 20:45). Furthermore regarding the quality no excuse was valid. Had to throw it all away.

The food was very delicious. We ordered mushroom sandwich and malanzane pizza. Also, the homemade lemonade was great. The chef was very helpful and professional. Defiantly Recommended.

Everything was great until we asked for the bill. Unexpectedly, the waiter brought limoncello shots for us and himself, which we never ordered, and added them to our bill. Since we had repeatedly said we didn’t want anything else, we assumed the shots were on the house. Unfortunately, we only noticed the charge after we had already paid. This is absolutely not the way to do business, and I find it completely unacceptable!

Wow. Melt-in-your-mouth perfection. I could leave it at that and it'd suffice, but let me just add that you should go here pronto. I mean it. Go now! Anyway, the pizzas (and everything) are so freaking delicious that I'm already plotting when to go next. This is in my top 5 of best pizzas I've ever had. Also, it'd be remiss of me if I didn't mention our lovely waiter, Oliver, who was affable, knowledgeable and warm. Big thanks to him and all the staff!

We just left this restaurant. What a pleasant atmosphere there. The pizzas were very tasty. The pizzas are baked in a wood oven. Then you get tasty crusts and crispy bubbles in the dough. In other words, highly recommended.

Always the tastiest pizzas!! 😍 This time I came to pick up, but the pizzas were not ready in my time slot, the waiter made a mistake in the time (good sign that time flies there, right?). We were allowed to take a seat while waiting, and because it was going to take a little longer, we were offered a free drink (we were even allowed to choose an aperol spritz)! Ultimately we were able to eat the pizzas in the restaurant (didn't seem possible at first due to reservations), and we even got free burrata. Really very neatly solved, we were completely happy customers again, a lot of restaurants can learn from it, compliments!!

One of the best balanced pizza flavors out there. Perfect ratio of tomato sauce, good dough, mozzarella and prosciutto (we took the one with prosciutto). The stuff was friendly and welcoming.
