Pizzacafé DESEM in Wijk 01 Nijmegen-Centrum

Very friendly staff, regularly asked if we wanted something to drink and we could also take leftovers with us. Arancini was very tasty, really worth it! The focaccia was unfortunately not airy, but very dense. The pizzas were well topped and had a nice thin base, but the base was not crispy but quite wet. Very unfortunate, because the flavours were good. Points of criticism: asking for sugar with my cappuccino is no problem, but half a teaspoon of sugar in a pot in which the sugar is caked in lumps on the bottom and a cup with a large crack from edge to bottom that is deep black, is not hygienic. I expected more from this restaurant, especially considering the reviews. Maybe a bad day?

Very decent pizza, and a large offering of wines and beers. I must say they lacked a few touches to earn that fifth star in their price-range. As others have noted: the atmosphere isn't optimal, but if that's not what you are looking for: go for it. :)

We went to pizza cafe Desem because I bake my own sourdough bread and was very charmed by the story of the pizza cafe. This concerns our own grown grains and the way they are processed. The fact that the owners/founders/pizza bakers have a background at the Nieuwe Winkel made me even more curious. Upon entering it is noticeable that this is a no-nonsense affair. We didn't know then that the taste of the dishes is paramount. It is clearly an informal setting. The service is also casual but knowledgeable and advisory. Then what we came for: the pizzas. Delicious!!! Worth the detour The only thing is that you have to leave on time because your time slot expires. But we are starting to get used to that more and more. Do you want really tasty, honest and original pizzas? On to Nijmegen!

Erg fijne ervaring en een pizza restaurant die het net even anders doen. Omdat dit restaurant gerund wordt door een oud collega moesten we uiteraard even langs. Hoewel dit geen volledig vegan restaurant is hadden ze genoeg keuze om ons een heerlijke maaltijd voor te zetten. En hoewel de foto’s anders doen vermoeden hadden we ook gewoon heerlijke desem pizza’s. Erg fijne bediening en sfeer en heel erg lekker eten.

A great little restaurant with amazing pizzas. Reservation is a must if you don't want to get there early. Price is good for the amazing food quality they have.

+ The food was great! Pizza's were tasty, and the Polenta and Risotto-balls even better! Reasonably priced. Service was friendly. - Unless you want to buy an expensive bottle, you only have two wine options. Both didn't taste good and WAY too little poured in the glass. Overpriced for what you get. - They don't accept cash-payment. Stated reason: "It's too expensive". Well, with these prices, I'm sure they can afford to accept cash. Irritating. Summary: Great food, friendly service. But they lost me with the overpriced wine and lack of cash payment option.

Great pizza, they really nail the sourdough approach and have one of the best drinks selections in Nijmegen to accompany it. Other menu elements can be a little hit and miss in terms of quality/value, so just stick to pizza if in doubt. Also, and it pains me to say it, resist the temptation to get a frozen one to take away. Not only is the price somehow almost as much as the ones they make there, the quality degrades massively due to some combination of the freezing process and not having a woodfire oven at home.

We had a very nice meal at Pizzacafé DESEM. The service was smooth and attentive. The pizzas were delicious. The desserts are also recommended. The basque cheesecake in particular was very popular. I came with high expectations and DESEM delivered! We would love to come back here again.

Was so disappointed! The staff wasn’t very welcoming, the risotto balls were overpriced and only tasted like something with the salsa on top. The kombucha wasn’t great, the pizza dough was fine but they lacked flavor too. The chocolate mousse was too dense and had pieces of chocolate in it, probably something went wrong with mixing. There was no olive oil on top either like it said on the menu. The tiramisu was mostly whipped cream with half a layer of savoiardi. It was extremely overpriced for the quality, I don’t recommend and won’t return.

Picked up pizza today at Desem. We were really looking forward to it. It was very busy, so we couldn't pick up our order until 7:45 PM, which wasn't a problem for us. I was in the shop at 7:40 PM. Once home, both pizzas were already cold. I think they had been ready in the restaurant for a while, because I live around the corner. The cheese pizza still had a lot of flavor, but the spicy sausage pizza had virtually no tomato sauce. I looked at the bottom of the base and 5 slices of mozzarella... And that for 18 euros per pizza... Unfortunately the last time for us.

A week ago I went to dinner with my partner, we loved it, the waitresses were super attentive and friendly, the pizzas were really good, I now have my trusted place in Nijmegen. A detail that I had not seen in the Netherlands (I am Spanish and have been living here for two years) is that when they brought us drinks, they also brought a free bottle of water, we liked it a lot.

Beetje vaag allemaal. Kwamen binnen in een bijna lege zaak waar we naar even wachten op de bediening een heel klein tafeltje strak tegen de zijmuur kregen aangewezen. Niet heel uitnodigend. De bediening die overigens in baggie oversized kleding liep met hele smerige “festival gympies” eronder. Toen kregen we de kaart, bestaande uit vooral rare combinaties die helemaal niks met pizza te maken hebben. We zijn heel snel een deurtje verder gegaan.

Dear Sourdough owner, I would like to give you feedback regarding communication and friendliness: follow a training course on how to best say 'no'. This also applies to your special staff members, who are afraid of you. In addition, I would also like to tell you to order takeaway from your website if you cannot place orders while your restaurant is half empty. My final feedback is: don't argue with your customers! This is how you scare them away!

Delicious food. Pizzas are delicious as are the starters. We went for the surprise menu. Highly recommended. We were back in Italy for a while.

The food is tasty, but the worst thing for me is the blunt way they turn away customers. We wanted to order food to take away, but they didn't like it. We started arguing when we were disappointed. Customer friendliness is hard to find at this tent.

A very nice place for pizza lovers. Also plenty of vegetarian options. They make delicious pizzas (with sourdough dough) with their own wood-fired oven. The dough is tasty, nice and airy and crispy. Making a reservation in advance is wise. The pizza café is also regularly full during the week. We opted for the pizza with 'spicy sausage' and the pizza with oyster mushroom (and blue cheese, among other things). They use good quality products: you can taste that. For example, the meat comes from the Groene Weg. They were really good pizzas. Well balanced in terms of ingredients. We ordered 2 sauces (for the crusts). Tasty sauces (a homemade hot sauce and an aïoli), but they were actually unnecessary: ​​the pizzas (and the crust) were tasty enough on their own. Even though the restaurant was full, we got the pizzas after about 20 minutes. Also recommended: the risotto balls. You can order them individually. Delicious balls made with Remeker cheese (from Lunteren). There is a wide choice of special beers (including a nice collaboration with Nevel: tomato beer and a collaboration with De Kromme Haring: a deliciously fresh pilsner. Both beers are exclusive).

Unfortunately, in my opinion, the pizzas were not baked far enough. Although the sourdough is tasty, the crust was not crispy and I found the pizza to be very sparsely topped. The coppa beforehand was delicious. The tiramisu was way too wet. The cocktails were good, but very low in alcohol, otherwise they would have been perfect. The beers were priced absurdly high (€8.50 for a can). Unfortunately not worth repeating.

I cannot stress enough how good this pizza was. I am writing this review a long time after having been at the restaurant because I tried a few others and until now I cannot forget DESEM’s pizza and I’ve been longing to go again. Try the pistachio one! Honestly o would just eat their pizza bread as is. And the tiramisu? Amazing! The idea of giving you a sauce to dip the crust? Genious. Homemade kombucha? Sign me up!

Alternative pizzeria with original tasty dishes and friendly staff. Tables are not crammed together, so it is nice and quiet and relaxed (unless there happens to be a larger group). Recommended for those who love Italian food but dare to try something different.

If you want to eat in Nijmegen, I can really recommend this place to be.

We were not really satisfied with our visit. Firstly, we were given a table next to the cash register and near the entrance (we did have a reservation), which was not a cozy or warm place. The choice of pizzas is very limited for a so-called pizza café. Our pizza was very tasty, but the price-quality/quantity ratio seems lost; We thought the pizzas were too expensive for what you get. Finally, we were not satisfied with the service; they seemed 'flat', when we received the pizzas and our drinks were already finished, we were not offered anything new and only when our plates were removed were we asked if we wanted anything else to drink. In short, I don't recommend this place.

This pizza is not the best in Nijmegen. It’s one of the best anywhere in the world. Creative recipes (try the oyster mushroom one), natural wine, wild beer. Great place in it’s golden era.

Delicious pizzas, highly recommended! Not a traditional Italian, but the taste is no less. Eat on site, take away or have pizzas for home in the freezer: everything is possible! We will definitely come back

Made a reservation at Desem because we felt like having special beer and pizza. Let me start by saying that the place looks very cozy, to be honest I did not expect that on a fairly unpleasant street. The pizza and beer taste great. I wasn't quite prepared for less traditional pizzas and drinks. Sourdough offers different pizzas and drinks than the usual Italian. Nevertheless, it remains highly recommended!

L'impasto è ok ma troppo formaggio sulla parmesan. E poi sarà stato un giorno particolare ma nel locale senza aria condizionata non era piacevole. Personale molto cordiale e locale pulito.

Leuke tent, goede bereikbaarheid, personeel loopt er lichtjes informeel maar toch goed herkenbaar bij. Bediening is ook erg vriendelijk en resultaatgericht, linksom of rechtsom. Sfeer is erg gezellig en het met het lekkere eten erbij ben je helemaal compleet. Hier vermaak je je sowieso, met leuke speciaalbiertjes, wijnen, goede limonades, goede en interessante pizzas en lekkere toetjes.

Erg lekker eten, er is in mijn beleving geen pizza beter dan de pizza’s van Desem, Fijne plek om te zitten, fijne mensen aan het werk, een mooie en verassende kaart. Alles is hier net iets meer. Supertent…mocht je ooit in de buurt zijn,… doen dus!!! En veel keuze voor veganisten🌱🌱🌱👍🏻

Voorgerechten waren heerlijke echter de hoofdgerechten pizza hadden ze niet wat op bord stond terwijl ik van te voren vroeg wat het was en dan niet zeggen dat het al op was! Tevens was 1 pizza zwart gebakken en toch opgediend! Dus na zeggen kregen we een nieuwe pizza. Echt slecht dat je deze durft te serveren! Wijn en bier waren lekker. Kortom niet zo goed dat wat we gewend waren….

De lekkerste pizza's die we ooit hebben gegeten, met een heerlijk natuur wijntje. Fijne, overzichtelijke menukaart. Goede bediening en een hele gezellige sfeer. (Zeer aan te raden is het aioli dipje voor bij je pizza korst 😁 )
