It is always a delight here; beautiful menus, lovely seats in the restaurant. Great for celebrating birthdays 🎈, very cozy, they even come and sing for you. But also cozy in a little alcove, enjoying time together and swooning with each other. Certainly also great service with sweet, kind women and men. A solid ten from me... Hope I get to enjoy it there for a long time to come ☺️

No surprises, no disappointments, but also no moment where you want to cry out, "Wow... this is amazing!" with tears in your eyes. And sometimes that's perfectly fine. The atmosphere is pleasant. Cozy, warm, and typically Greek without veering into clichés. You're comfortable, it's lively enough, and you don't feel like you're eating in an empty room—always a plus. This is the kind of restaurant where you can quietly catch up without having to shout over the music. The menu offers everything you expect from a Greek restaurant. A wide selection, familiar classics, enough options for everyone. You don't have to worry about your favorite dish being missing. That said, it stays safe. No exciting excursions, no surprising twists. Just solid Greek food. The food is good. The meat is perfectly prepared, the side dishes are excellent, and everything tastes as it should. But… it's just missing that little something extra. Those deeper spices, those intense flavors, that feeling that would make a Greek grandmother angry if it wasn't perfect. You won't find fault here, but you won't find any fireworks either. The service is friendly and correct. Not overly present, not absent, just right. I’ll be honest, food was amazing as well as the service and the space - zero complaints there. On the other hand the prices in my opinion were abit above what they should have been. Some specific dishes in my opinion were heavily overpriced like the Halloumi and the Tzanziki - Otherwise no complaints

The mixed platter seemed like a good way to get to know the restaurant, but it was a huge disappointment. All the meats, from chicken to lamb, were dry and had little to no flavor. A missed opportunity. The two stars are mainly for the service and atmosphere, but the food wasn't good enough to make us return.

Yesterday I was there again to celebrate our friend's birthday. The atmosphere in this restaurant is reminiscent of dinner at a Greek friend's house. It's truly something special. The hospitality of the people who work there makes you forget you're in a restaurant. The food is exquisite 🩷

Do not recommend. Bad food quality, for greek standards. High prices. Rude waiter. They saw that i did not like my meal, but they did not even ask why.

Located on Kruisstraat with a (sheltered) terrace where we sit down, Athene serves a number of classic dishes that aren't common in Greek restaurants. Great! It takes a bit of searching to find the gems from a menu of over 120 dishes and elaborate desserts. We share dolmadakia (€9.70), prepared without rice, but with a filling of finely chopped veal in béchamel and tomato sauce. Slightly salty, but a very tasty regional twist on the usual rice version. Then follow two oven dishes with braised lamb: 'Lamb - Macaroni' (€23.50) and 'Stifako' (€24.80). Both are in tomato sauce and come with salad and fries or rice. The macaroni turns out to be orzo: it looks like puffy, overcooked rice, but it's a neutral, filling dough dish. The stifako, with shallots in a tomato sauce with cumin and onion, among other things, gives a wonderfully slightly sweet twist to the buttery-tender lamb. The rice is seasoned with tomato sauce and capers. The salad doesn't quite measure up to the other dishes. I'm baffled as to why they don't serve a simple Greek salad. Unfortunately, it's a traditional Dutch dish: lots of salad dressing, mediocre tomatoes, just like my grandmother used to serve in 1985... The interior also looks from that period, which isn't a problem at all. Numerous alcoves and decorative elements provide a sense of privacy, and for once, there's no sirtaki from Zorba the Greek. The service? Friendly, and they talk about the dishes with pride and passion, especially when you ask, "Dolmas, aren't they Turkish?"

We have tried many Greek restaurants but first time eating at Athene and we both enjoyed it a lot! First of all, the service is great, all the staff were really friendly. We ordered tzatziki (which was amazingly creamy and flavourful) and moussaka (also very tasty) as we weren't that hungy. Overal I would come here again for sure (:

We had a wonderful meal here! The tzatziki is very spicy and full of flavor. I had gyros with rice and also tried souvlaki, which were all very tasty. The owners are very friendly! The service is quick and the food is delivered quickly. Prices range from 15 to 30 euros. The street itself is a bit noisy, but that doesn't detract from the food! Highly recommended!

The Feta Saganaki here is absolutely delicious. It's still the best of all the Greek restaurants I've been to. And after all these years of trying my favorite dish everywhere, Athens is still number one! The staff is also friendly and the food is affordable.

First visited in July 2025. The service was excellent, and the staff are very customer-focused. The food was delicious, and of course, a Mythos was a nice accompaniment. Never been before? Go for it! Parking is a bit of a challenge, but the restaurant is worth it!

The service was polite and prompt. Unfortunately, the food wasn't quite right. Despite clearly stating my allergy, the allergen still ended up on the plate. I asked for additional information about what definitely wouldn't contain the allergen and adjusted my menu accordingly. It was, however, quickly corrected immediately. The fish was very dry.

Everything was very delicious with fast service and a warm atmosphere. The only issue was that the music was a bit too quiet – it could be turned up a little. 🤏

Wij komen hier heel graag! Je wordt altijd goed ontvangen bij binnenkomst. De gerechten zijn altijd heerlijk en goed bereidt. Snelle service maar als je lang wil tafelen kun je dit ook aangeven. Je kunt de tempo zelf bepalen. De gasten en het personeel zorgen voor een prettige en huiselijke sfeer. Bij vertrek staat de heer of vrouw des huizes altijd klaar om je te bedanken en te groeten.

Excellent Greek restaurant. This cozy restaurant is located in the extension of the Woenselse market. Very friendly authentic owners. Parking is in principle paid. The menus are more balanced than usually Greek. Smaller portions, subtler flavors. Salad was unfortunately substandard. Price is average.

Great as always! Here you are always welcomed so warmly and enthusiastically upon entering that it feels like coming home. That is why I have already awarded the staff the first big 10.👍🏼 The truly delicious ouzo as a welcome drink is of superior quality, and is seen by me as the start of a perfect evening and I enjoy enjoying it.👍🏼 I almost always order the mixed grill for 2 people here, and therefore always force 1 of my table companions to eat with me.😏 The gyros here is absolutely the very best you can get. But also the Suflaki, Suzuki, bifteki, in fact everything is incredibly tasty.👍🏼 The Greek salad is perfect!👍🏼the rice and fries... Perfect!👍🏼 And wash everything down in between with a delicious glass of Samos, Sjonge Jonge Jonge😋👍🏼 Fantastic! Of course, I usually don't finish it, and whatever is left is neatly packaged to take home. But if there is room for dessert, you can also enjoy delicious ice cream sundaes or how about a Frappe? The cold coffee served as it should be. I can't stop talking about this restaurant. It is definitely one of my top 10 places to be. And since it is always pleasantly busy here, I am not the only one who thinks this way. The staff works very hard here, and always with a beautiful smile. The food was great - I probably wouldn't know what Greek food is supposed to taste like, but it was a great experience. The Keftedes (meatballs) were juicy. There was also a cheese pastry that melts in your mouth - divine. All in all - the food was great - as was the atmosphere and friendly staff. The place was well lit and it felt like I was in a Greek monument. It's a great place and I would definitely go there again. Did you like it?

We went to Athene for a family dinner. Ordered Pikilia for 2 people for starters and Kreta Schotel for main course, which comes for 2 people. The portion sizes are large and were enough for our 4 persons family - 2 adults, 2 teens. The restaurant is in a busy location and finding parking nearby might be a challenge. We parked a few lanes away. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice. It was crowded when we visited but we did not have to wait since we had reservations. Some of the seats are in a tight space. We were moved to a more spacious seat on request. The servers are very nice, cordial and cheerful. All in all, we had a pleasant dinner in Athene.

Years ago we regularly ate here to our complete satisfaction. Ever since service dropped, we avoided Athens. To give them another chance, we reserved a table at the end of November. A big 10 for the staff: Friendly, attentive and fast. The salad was perfect both in taste and presentation; more variety in the bowl and the plates with wilted lettuce leaves were gone!! The tzatziki and the house red wine were fine and exactly as we remembered. The Crete dish unfortunately put a damper on our evening out. The gyros was topped with mushroom sauce (how Dutch do you want it in a Greek restaurant?) and the pork tenderloin and lamb chops were also floating in it. Fortunately the souvlaki was spared. Fries and rice in one bowl is also not a success unless you want fries with tomato sauce. Unfortunately, we will be away for a while...

The food was good, although I thought the giros were a bit too salty and seasoned and the amount of fries was moderate. Those who turned out to be regular customers received significantly more. And the price for the mayonnaise is ABSURT. €1.50 for 1 person, such a very small bowl!!!! That doesn't matter.

Went here a few years ago for the last time when it was still good, now unfortunately the food has deteriorated very much, the service was very slow, 2 tenderloins were sent back because they were badly overcooked, like the soles of shoes. She did try to get this on the bill, luckily we noticed. Then we waited 20 minutes for the bill and they accidentally forgot to give us change, so we had to go back after 20 minutes. Unfortunately, it is no longer the place it once was

We ordered the 2-person fish dish and the 2-person kyklades dish and some sides. Portions are really on the small side. And that did not match the price. Staff was nice and the food came quickly. Unfortunately, Gyros was a bit on the bland side in terms of taste. Salmon was again a bit too salty. Other than that it was fine.

Super gezellige avond gehad en de bediening was kei vriendelijk en heel attent en het eten was heerlijk we hebben van 17:30 tot 21:45 gezellig van het heerlijke eten genoten we hebben echt een top avond gehad met zijn 3 personen €165,- kwijt voorgerecht hoofdgerecht voor 3 pers en 1 nagerecht ik vind dat echt geen geld voor zo’n heerlijke avond dit is echt de moeite waard

Lang niet meer geweest en ik dacht we gaan er weer een keer eten. Helaas teleurgesteld. Geen salade of groente bij de gerechten. Paar frietjes op je bord. Had voorgerecht maar moest zelf om brood vragen. Griekse yoghurt voor € 6,50 kan je beter thuis eten. Prijzen enorm maar ook minder op je bord. Er zijn Griekse restaurants in de buurt waar je meer krijgt voor je geld. En waar het goed eten is.

Delicious Greek cuisine, good prices, cozy atmosphere

Had a mixed experience here. The meat dish was tasty. However, the meat dishes are all very similar. You shouldn't expect too much from salads and baklava. Especially nice if you want a plate with a lot of meat. The waiter served dishes whose names she did not know.

We have enjoyed coming here for years. The tenderloin in particular is highly recommended. There is always a pleasant and warm atmosphere in the restaurant. The warm lighting, wine and authentic background music complete the experience. The staff are excellent and the owners as well.

The food here is very tasty!! I have been coming here for dinner for a number of years, which is a kind of tradition to come and eat here with family!! I always order the same thing and I can say that this is the tastiest saganaki with reserved jam. Not all Greek restaurants do that, I can tell you!! If you don't know what it is, I would say try it out. Furthermore, the bifteki is delicious!!! In my opinion, this is a good recommendation for a Greek meal!!

Sunday evening 1 October 2023. Ignore the 1 * reviews, the food was good and the service was friendly, especially from kyria Elena. Yes, the main dishes come without a salad or fries, just with rice. If you need more, order more. Or better not, because the desserts (pasta ferrero, chocolatina) were heavenly !

Zondag 24-9 hebbenwe bij dit restaurant gedineerd. We gaan wel vaker naar een Grieks restaurant maar dit was echt slecht. Het eten had totaal geen smaak, de gyros weinig en droog gebakken het vleesspiesje taai en zonder smaak, het bolletje rijst met tomatensaus, echt goor hoor. Er zat echt een vieze bijsmaak aan. Veel te veel zout aan het vlees.

Average restaurant, grilled meat was pre heated, over done, poor quality. You worked out in 1.5 hrs.
