Restaurant De Beren Emmen in Wijk 40 Emmen-Centrum

An annual tradition for us, vacationing in Drenthe, to eat at De Beren in Emmen. This year we spoke to the same waitress as last year. It felt like coming home and sitting down at the table. The food was great again!! We hope to see each other again next year.

We dined here at Christmas. It was very cozy, the restaurant was beautifully decorated, and despite being busy, the atmosphere was wonderful thanks to the good acoustics. The food was delicious, and the service was fast and very friendly. We'll definitely be back.

We were there for lunch, no wait time and we were seated right away. Drinks ordered pretty quickly, but ordering food took quite a while, people who came and sat after us had their food orders taken and given before us. Food was okay, the calamari’s were so thin and crispy there was no calamari left in them, and they were also served with no sauce so it was very dry. The club sandwich was just the ingredients on a toast bread, not what I would call a club sandwich.. the omelette was also fine but again just omelette with the ingredients with some bread. Was not impressed by the club sandwich, as that was not it. Staff were friendly and atmosphere was quiet and nice.

I'm a huge fan of a woman who works there (long braids). She complimented me on my nails, and I was sold. Haha, no, she was really good. A genuine woman. She worked hard with a smile.

Went to Emmen. There was a cozy Christmas atmosphere, even though it was busy, you barely noticed it. The food was delicious.

We received a friendly welcome and were helped at the door. I'm currently using a walker. My husband and I enjoyed the sharing menu. They constantly asked us whether we wanted the next course immediately or whether we wanted to wait. We were given plenty of time to enjoy our meal.

We had a lovely dinner at De Beren tonight. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and super friendly 😊. The seasonal dessert, custard crumble with stewed pear, is highly recommended.

We really enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere is great. Emmen has a play area for the kids, which they really enjoyed. They also had the chance to color, and the staff was friendly. The wine was excellent, the food was wonderful. I can't think of a reason not to go back... Classy.

Beautiful location in Emmen, we had a nice spot by the window. The food quality and service were excellent, but the Albert Heijn offer wasn't exactly a winner in terms of price/quality/quantity, but that's not the bears' fault...

Nice location and good food, wide choice.

It looks nice inside, but the service is poor. Upon entering, we were told we could sit wherever we wanted, so we did. After a minute, someone rudely told us that where we were seated was reserved. Normally, this wouldn't have been a problem if they had put a "reserved" sign on the table. I ordered the steak cubes, but I don't recommend them, as they should have called it "mushrooms with steak cubes" on the menu. It contained four small pieces of meat with a little bit of bell pepper and onion, and 90% mushrooms, and I hadn't even ordered the mushroom sauce 😓. After pointing this out to the same waitress who had previously sent us away in a rather unfriendly manner, nothing was done about the complaint. And it's worth noting that for a 27-euro dish, you'd expect a bit more meat and better proportions. After this experience, I'm certain I won't be returning. Very disappointing.

In a word, amazing and the food was superb. We had been to Emmen.

Are you arriving there on a Thursday evening at 7:15 PM? A 40-minute drive, yes, we could have made a reservation. Anyway, the short answer was barely in: "NO ROOM NOW!" I counted 7 empty tables 🤨 without saying a word, but turned around, and there you were.

First, I have to get used to "The Bears 2.0." I'm still sensitive to the old "Western" setting with 10,000 plush teddy bears... but that's a matter of taste. In terms of physical taste, I found my Angus burger very greasy (the bread was drowned in it and not medium as requested). But then again, I didn't find any on-site, so I can't complain here either. My wife had the exact same dish, but less greasy. The taste was good, as were the apple pie, coffee, and desserts. No complaints about the staff.

If you would like small portions (gyozas were the size of my pinky), the food not been served in a period of 45 min since you ordered on a Thursday which still not a busy date and been charged overpriced (gyozas and one cocktail for 30 euros) then this is your place. I ordered and full menu and walked out. I complained for the long waiting and the waitress was rude and careless. Walk a little farther then you will find Barcelona great place nice ambience and GREAT FOOD. Don’t waste your time and money in De beren

We ate at De Beren in Emmen yesterday. There were four of us and we chose the sharing menu. The food was fine, but we do have a few comments. We only got one container of fries, even though the menu says you get fries with every sharing menu. The waitress also said, "The other container will be here soon." It never arrived. With dessert, we got one container of hot chocolate suitable for the dame blanche, but there wasn't a chocolate container to dip the churros in, as the menu stated. What I found disappointing was that we weren't asked if we wanted another drink, even though I had already finished mine by the beginning of the main course. My table companions had finished their drinks after the main course, and even then, we weren't asked. This was despite the fact that the plates were neatly cleared and we had put all the empty glasses and bottles together.

We went there unexpectedly, called, and told them someone in a wheelchair was coming along. No problem at all. They opened the door for us. The staff were wonderfully friendly. We had a shared dining experience for the first time. I can only praise it highly. The food was absolutely fantastic. Kudos!!!

Great food. Friend eats gluten-free and this was taken into account very well. The service was neat, nice and helped well with advice. In short, it was a very positive experience! Would like to eat there again. The cocktail was good by the way!!

The food was definitely delicious. When we arrived, we were politely assisted and explained how to split plates and the menu options. After our main course, no one paid any attention to us or the corner where we were sitting. After we finished our main course, we sat with our used plates for over half an hour, and in the meantime, no staff came until we went to the check-in table ourselves. I also noticed that the table across from us wasn't cleared until after we weighed ourselves. I understand that with fewer staff, you're slower, but if you already indicate that you only serve people with reservations and have fewer tables in use, you can at least be considerate of your customers and the surroundings. However, the food we received was incredibly delicious.

After visiting the adjacent zoo, we had a delicious meal at this restaurant. Because we'd visited (proved with our day ticket), we received a 10% discount. The staff was very friendly. They were very considerate of the children. They provided coloring pages and crayons, which were provided from the start. There were also games and a play area in the restaurant. The food was also delicious. We enjoyed our meal and had a wonderful time.

We had lunch at the bears last Sunday. I had a good time last time, so I ordered the same thing again. Until I saw something in the food, sure enough. A fly (fruit fly), whatever it was, and later another one, and another one. I reported it. Oh yeah, sorry, that's not very tasty. Would you like a new sandwich? No thanks. Brrr. Yeah, sorry, we're having a bug problem. (HOW?) I'll pass it on... Okay, what else?? I was already fed up. We got to the checkout. Sure enough, everyone walked away, and we could pay someone else, and of course, the full amount! No €2.50 discount or anything. (I don't care, though), but this just wouldn't be right... Ugh... so you're going to eat here!! Be careful!! They know about the bugs, but they're not doing anything about it???

A few weeks ago, we enjoyed a 3-course meal at De Beren with 4 adults and 2 children. It was our first time since visiting Wildlands. The welcome was fantastic. Patricia gave us a thorough explanation of the menu and the composition of the various dishes. The 3-course meal is highly recommended. The food was delicious at a more than reasonable price. We went back the next day because we enjoyed it so much. It's a shame Emmen is too far for us, as we live in Maastricht, otherwise we would definitely have eaten there again.

The service was subpar. We wanted to move from outside to inside, but no one offered to help us bring in the plates, glasses, and cutlery. Having to do everything ourselves, a bit strange? Then the waiter asked an 8-year-old if he'd like another drink (while everyone else was busy bringing everything in), with no adult present. Of course, a child said yes. It was also difficult to ask the waiters at the table, as they never looked. The waitresses were also rather snooty. The restaurant is spacious with a nice interior, including a play area for children, but the poor service will keep us from returning.

Unlimited spareribs eaten. Really super tasty, literally to lick your fingers. When it was just gone, they asked if you wanted to order more. Every round you had to choose which flavor you wanted. Friendly, smooth service. We will come back again.

Disappointing experience – service far below par We have now been to De Beren in Emmen twice for lunch, but both times we left without ordering anything. We waited for over fifteen minutes, but no one came to our table to take our drinks. That was reason enough for us not to return after that. In the weekend of 28/29 June 2025 we were back in Emmen and got an ice cream at Toscana. We sat down on the wall opposite De Beren for a while, and what we noticed then confirmed our earlier feeling. A female waiter with dark hair and a ponytail was walking around visibly grumpy. She could not smile, she constantly looked sullen and radiated no friendliness at all. It seemed as if she was only there for the money, not for the guests. Very unpleasant to see, especially in the catering industry where hospitality should be central. The interior of De Beren is fine and the location is good, but that does not outweigh the bad service and the unfriendly attitude of the staff. Fortunately, there are enough better restaurants in Emmen where you are helped in a friendly and quick manner - such as the restaurants at the church or at the library. Super delicious food! Three course menu that was very enjoyable and if you like desserts this is definitely recommended!

Today we ate with an unlimited spareribs voucher. Delicious spareribs. Spareribs are all marinated the same, only different sauces. My favorite is ketjap, my husband barbecue sauce. I didn't like the fries, but my teenager wanted another portion. Raw vegetables were included, but apparently forgotten, and we didn't ask about them.

This is a great place for a bit of upscale dining with kids. It has a small indoor playground, something to draw on at the table, and super friendly service. The food is definitely better than at a chip shop, but not pretentious. Highly recommended.

What a great experience at Beren Emmen! The staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable - you immediately feel welcome. The food was really delicious, everything super fresh and tasty. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cozy and warm, a really nice place to sit. Everything just felt right. Definitely recommended and I would love to come back here again!

We were not given water with the wine, they said yes, I will get it, then you get a shot glass of water and if you want more you have to buy a bottle even though you already have wine.

We like to come here regularly. Unfortunately this time it was disappointing. Ordered two of the same main courses (Tenderloin tips). Taste was fine, but on the dry side and one had more garnish on the plate than meat. So that's not recommended as far as I'm concerned. Always a cozy tent.

We had lunch here with my boyfriend, I ordered a cocktail, which was brought to me spilled, i.e. the waiter poured my cocktail while he was walking to our table, and they just put a glass on which my cocktail was dripping. The food is not bad, but the service is not very good. We waited for 15 minutes until someone came up to us and brought us a menu with food, because there was only a menu with drinks on the table.

Beautiful and atmospheric location. It is very affordable, especially with the three-course menu. The choices are less extensive than if you order separately from the menu, but it is much cheaper and still roughly 80% of all dishes are available. I still had choice stress. The portions are large and you certainly do not leave this restaurant hungry. The staff is friendly. It did seem to be understaffed, which sometimes made it take a bit longer. But you could not tell from the friendliness of the staff. Our three-course menus: Carpaccio - Salmon - Creme brulee Rib fingers - Spicy crispy chicken - Creme brulee We both enjoyed it. You can choose nice extra sides. I found the chicken itself more sweet than spicy. But the taste was no less. For all this in combination with 3x cola zero and 3x a sprite we spent just over 80 euros (10% Wildlands discount). Really very reasonable.
