Very disappointing experience. We wanted to change our main course within a minute of ordering, but according to the waiter, that was no longer possible. My pork tenderloin, which was supposed to be medium, was fully cooked and tough. My girlfriend ordered shrimp but received salmon. After sending it back, there was even a piece of salmon left in the new dish. The male waiter was very difficult about everything and was not customer-friendly. Unfortunately, not recommended.

We are in Winterswijk for a midweek trip from Amsterdam and thought we'd go for some delicious Italian food. The food is tasty and the service is amazing! We were served by Jetta; thank you so much for your sweet smile and lovely service. If we are in the area again, we will definitely come back.

Ended up here by chance for lunch! And we are critical because we own a hospitality business ourselves! This restaurant deserves more stars than indicated on Google! We came back for dinner! We think this is worth writing about. Stijn helped us, as did a girl from Kosovo 🇽🇰; they deserve a big compliment. Anything is possible, nothing is too much trouble! If you want something different from what is on the menu, they don't make a fuss; anything is possible! Just as it should be! The food is good and flavorful! Definitely recommended!

An atmospheric restaurant with very friendly staff. We ended up on the terrace at Villaggio on Sunday after a walk through Winterswijk. After a drink, we ordered lunch; there was something for everyone: salad, pasta, and I had a delicious hearty fish soup. A piece of bread with the fish soup would have been nice, but despite missing the bread roll with the soup, I had a wonderful meal. The staff from Kosovo were very friendly and helpful. And Stijn deserves extra praise; a top host, cherish this young hospitality professional. In the evening, we decided to go for dinner again. We had a delicious meal again; naturally, there are small points for improvement, but no downsides. But for the second time, we went home with a good feeling as a group of four. We would love to come back again. And especially for Stijn, you are a star.

Good and tasty food for a great price for such a location. Service, however, was very chaotic. We were offered new drinks 3 times within a few minutes, even though we still had some. Several tables were completely forgotten and some dishes were served to the wrong person or table. Update June 2026: the service is now really much more attuned and was very attentive.

Starters excellent, main courses somewhat less so. The ravioli was a mushy little pot; the taste was okay, but not what you expect ravioli to be like on your plate. The ordered tenderloin tips were suddenly steak with wine sauce. After pointing this out, it was taken away, and suddenly, two minutes later, they were tenderloin tips. Not all sides were seared; the wait staff did not respond adequately to this. Later, we were only asked if we enjoyed the meal, but there was no further response from the wait staff. It tasted good, but not everything was right.

We had such a lovely experience at Villaggio. We were there last week with my partner, and it honestly left such a great impression on us that I felt like I had to come back and write a review. The food was fresh and delicious, the atmosphere felt warm and cozy, and the service was amazing from start to finish. A special mention for the staff coordination of them was just perfect. Everything ran so smoothly, they were always attentive, smiling, and made us feel really comfortable. You could tell they worked as a team and truly cared about the guests. Definitely one of the best places we visited in Winterswijk — we’ll for sure come back again

The appetizer took a long time to arrive. It tasted good and was okay, though. The price of €30 for two is, like everywhere else in the world, totally overpriced. The toilet flush didn't work. The soap dispenser at the sink was empty. It took a while to take our drinks. We only got a server after asking several times. The emergency exit lighting wasn't properly marked or working. There was also a sign indicating that the direct exit was the right way out (just intuition). We felt like we were intruding rather than being welcomed as customers when we entered. The food took 1.5 hours to arrive after we ordered it. The dish with three different meats was overpriced. The quality isn't what you'd expect for €30. And I should mention that the side dish cost an additional €5. The server was constantly bumping into other servers, which I found unprofessional. That's why I have to express my dissatisfaction. The fried potatoes were just lightly fried potatoes without any bacon. I think the place is overpriced for the service and quality you get.

We went out for dinner with our children, aged 11 and 9. We had reserved a table for 6:00 PM and were on time. We were greeted warmly, and as soon as we sat down at our table, the (I think) owner came to greet us kindly and took our drink orders. We looked at the menu and ordered an appetizer, pizza, and pasta. The appetizer arrived reasonably on time and tasted fine. However, we had to wait a very long time for the pizza. Well over an hour. I then walked to the cashier to ask if it would still take much longer, as it was already past eight. Upon inquiry, they said it would take another 5 minutes or so. The owner came to the table to apologize for the long wait, and we very politely received a drink on the house. The children were also allowed a dessert on the house after the meal. Unfortunately, our children were already past their meal because it had taken too long, so they couldn't finish the pizza. We didn't wait any longer for the table to be cleared, paid the bill, and left. We had an ice cream at home. Unfortunately, after reading the good reviews, it was a bit of a disappointment for us. It is not the friendliness of the staff that is the issue; the long wait with 2 children and sitting in a restaurant for over 2.5 hours to eat a pizza... that is unfortunately a bit of a letdown for us.

We visited this restaurant several times during our vacation – three times in total – and it has definitely become our go-to spot! 😊 The pizza is simply incredibly delicious, but the pasta is also a real highlight – everything is fresh, tastes amazing, and is prepared with so much love. We tried several different pizzas and were thrilled every time. It's a true family-run business, and you can immediately tell that they work with heart. The owner personally pitches in, is incredibly attentive, and goes out of his way to anticipate every guest's needs. Even if you sometimes have to wait a little longer for your food, it's absolutely worth it – because everything is freshly prepared, and you can really taste the difference! We especially want to highlight how child-friendly it is: We were there with four children (ages 7, 7, 11, and 16), and we all felt completely at ease. Another big plus is that the staff speaks German. For us, this restaurant is an essential part of every vacation – a visit is an absolute must! We're already looking forward to our next visit. 🍕❤️

We came here to celebrate our daughter's birthday and spend a lovely evening with the family. As soon as they realized it was her birthday, they warmly congratulated her. We were given a wonderful round table and received excellent service. The food was delicious. As a birthday treat, they even gave our little one an ice cream with "fireworks." We can wholeheartedly recommend this place and will definitely be back.

That was our first and last time there. The "salad" consisted of a few arugula leaves, some tomatoes, and a bit of filet mignon. There was no Parmesan cheese at all. Charging almost €16 for that was outrageous. I can't comment on the rest of the food because we didn't receive it. We left after an hour and a half.

Since there isn't a huge selection of good restaurants in Winterswijk, and we've had several disappointing experiences at local pubs, the decision for tonight was clear: pizza! 👍 Our wish was granted at Restaurant Villaggio on the market square. We each got the pizza we wanted. Okay, a real Italian pizza looks and tastes different, but we weren't disappointed. This pizza was tasty, the size was fine, in short: good value for money, recommendable. The ambiance in the restaurant is a bit, well, okay, and we were full.

The four of us arrived spontaneously without a reservation. Although the restaurant was very full, the owner still managed to find us a table without any fuss – we thought that was fantastic. The owner and the entire team were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and very accommodating. You immediately feel welcome. I've been here several times and the food is always delicious, and this time was no exception. The quality of the dishes is truly excellent, and we'd love to come back for that! Last Saturday, we had a 7:00 PM reservation through Social Deal. We arrived half an hour early, but there was no room, even though there seemed to be tables available. When we returned at 7:00 PM, we had to wait standing for about 20 minutes because there wasn't a table available for three people. That felt very unfriendly, especially since other guests who arrived after us were able to be seated immediately. Apparently, a reservation through Social Deal carries less weight here than other guests, which is a bad thing. Tip: place a few stools at the bar where guests can wait and offer them a drink. Or don't offer Social Deal at all on weekends when it's busy. Because this was an extremely disappointing and poor welcome.

The food was, as usual, very good and delicious. The service and atmosphere were also good, a full restaurant with good service.

The food and service are abysmal! Long wait times, the beef tenderloin tips were incredibly tough and riddled with sinew (it probably wasn't tenderloin at all, but rather rump steak cut into goulash-like chunks), the meat, which according to the menu was supposed to be deglazed with brandy, was instead smothered in a mushy, pre-made sauce, and the side vegetables were almost raw and cold. When we complained, which was only possible after 10-15 minutes due to the staff's constant absence (and we were obviously already eating because we were so hungry), we were met with a shrug – apparently, we had already started eating… All in all (we've definitely had much better pizza elsewhere), not recommended!

Yesterday we dined at Villaggio with our almost two-year-old toddler. The restaurant had a good Google review. We were staying nearby in a hotel and called fifteen minutes beforehand to see if they had room for us, which luckily they did. It turned out it was almost full on a Sunday evening, so we were lucky. We received a very warm welcome upon arrival. We were given a spot near the back with a lovely view of the entire restaurant. The atmosphere was very atmospheric, with beautiful wall decorations and lovely lighting. It immediately felt cozy. We were greeted by the owner, a super friendly man. We were very impressed with all the service. He was kind to our daughter, brought crayons and books, and they came by frequently to ask how everything was going and if we wanted to order anything else. For our starters, we shared the caprese and the bread basket. Both were very good. The bread basket came with three spreads, of which the aioli and the herb butter were the best. While clearing the appetizer, we asked if our daughter's main course could come first. This was arranged immediately. The owner even mentioned that the children's portion might be too big for her and asked if she could join us for dinner. It was very helpful, so we ordered the children's portion of spaghetti bolognese (it was indeed too much, but she enjoyed it!). For our main course, we had the pizza carpaccio and the ravioli with ricotta and spinach. Neither were particularly flavorful, so we had to add some salt and pepper ourselves, but it was delicious. The ravioli was quite rich because of the cheese sauce, but it was truly homemade, so it was delicious. Unfortunately, we couldn't have dessert because our little one was in bed, but through the open kitchen, we had already seen that everything looked delicious! Thank you for a wonderful evening, and who knows, we'll see you next year!

The outdoor seating area was quite busy today, thanks to the beautiful weather. There were three servers, two of whom were very young and presumably inexperienced. After being treated like we didn't exist for at least 15 minutes, we asked if we could perhaps order something. No apology, just an approving nod. We ordered coffee, tea, and apple pie. A tiny cup of coffee (€3.60) and the tea arrived promptly, but the pie (€5 per slice) unfortunately didn't arrive until we were almost finished with our drinks. At least the pie with caramel sauce was delicious. We overheard several other tables complaining about the disorganized service. We even had to ask for the bill several times. Next time, we'll go back to our usual spot, which was unfortunately closed for renovations today.

Drove here from Marveld for takeout pizzas because of the good reviews, and it is certainly true; real Italian chefs, so pizza as it should be. The dishes I saw passing by while picking up looked so delicious too. I will definitely visit this restaurant when I am in the area again. Very friendly people with a passion for Italian delicacies. Price/quality was above expectations.

Don't go here! The staff here borders on the despicable. They treat their guests like dirt. We (father, mother, and 5-year-old son) arrived here at 8:30 PM after a somewhat chaotic day. We were greeted kindly by a couple of ladies. Given the time, the first thing we asked was politely if we could still get something to eat, even though it was on the late side. After consulting amongst ourselves, we were told that it was possible. However, we were asked to order only pizza or pasta. (So no elaborate meal with starters or complicated dishes.) We didn't mind this; we were just happy to be welcome. So, after some discussion, we picked out a table together. There were several other tables still eating. We were given the menu and immediately ordered drinks. While we waited for the drinks, we quickly looked at the menu so we could order as soon as the drinks arrived. We made our choices clear pretty quickly, but at 20:37, before the drinks had arrived, some young guy suddenly came up to us and indicated that we were no longer welcome; the kitchen would close at 8:30. (It says 21:00 everywhere, and we had even politely discussed whether we were allowed to eat there.) We pointed out that we had discussed it, but this guy wouldn't listen; we had to leave. No reason, not even a lame excuse, just "too bad, move on!" At that moment, our drinks arrived, and we just politely declined. Ridiculous behavior; then update your times online, or simply let us know upon arrival that you can't or won't stay for "X" reason. Even IF there had been a miscommunication, treat your guests in a decent manner. This is not how you treat people. Fortunately, the competitor on the same square was very hospitable.

We ate at the Villaggio today, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The food was exceptionally delicious—fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you'd expect from a good Italian restaurant. The restaurant itself is also beautifully decorated, with great attention to detail and a cozy atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. Special praise goes to our waiter, Sven: He was attentive, friendly, and accommodated all our requests. As a guest, you feel completely in good hands. Overall, everything was truly outstanding—we'd love to come back!

Unfortunately, the service was very slow, even though the restaurant was barely busy. People who had arrived before us still hadn't had their food when we left. Ordering more drinks wasn't possible either, since no one came. I don't want to know what it's like when it's full. Prices, okay.

The food was disgusting, the spaghetti was awful. We had three kinds of spaghetti, and all three were tasteless and unappetizing. We also had a lasagna that wasn't lasagna at all—lots of cheese and very little sauce. We pointed this out, and they said, "The sauce was pushed to the side." The issue wasn't resolved and wasn't removed from the bill. It was also very clear that the staff had finished with us very quickly. The staff were very rude; I would definitely not recommend going there. I've also read several other reviews, and they all say pretty much the same thing.

There were a lot of staff but still had to wait a long time, had to ask a few times if we could order. Nice location but otherwise 0.0 appearance, unloving service, no eye for what is happening, dirty tables, take an order, but do not clear tables when new visitors arrive. In the toilets the refills for the soap dispenser holders were dumped, little effort to put them in the holder, then they work too. The pizza was quite okay, but given the whole entourage not worth repeating.

Am Samstag 10.05.2025 auf dem Markt in Winterswijk wollten wir etwas Essen und Trinken. Wir setzten uns in den Außenbereich ,wurden jedoch nicht von den Service Kräften beachtet. Ich machte mich bei einer bemerkbar und dieser nickte mir zu. Neue Gäste die nach uns kamen 2 Tische wurden Zeitnah bewirtet. Nach ca.10 Minuten Sprach ich einen anderen Mitarbeiter an, dieser ging jedoch weiter. Nach ca. 15 Minuten Sprach ich erneut die Servicekraft an ,bei der ich mich vorher bemerkbar machte. Das Essen war uns nun vergangen und wir bestellten Getränke. Der Mitarbeiter befand es jedoch nicht für notwendig den Tisch der Vorherigen Gäste abzuräumen und brachte ca. 5 Minuten Später die Getränke. Beim Zahlen machte ich darauf aufmerksam, dieses wurde nur damit abgetan das viel zu tun sei. Absolut mangelhaft. Besser noch keinen Stern ..

Delicious food. A delicious fillet steak in red wine sauce. Good to see that there are more choices besides the good pasta and pizza. A cozy restaurant, friendly staff and large terrace.

The ribeye was nice, just not cut well with some tough pieces occasionally. Lots of balsamic vinegar all over the plate. The pasta was not very tasty. The tiramisu was very tasty. Music was a bit too loud.

The two of us had a delicious meal here on a Saturday evening. Made use of the 3 course menu, all courses were beautifully prepared and well seasoned. Friendly staff, working with a smile, the girl who cleaned the tables worked hard and very neatly. The menus also felt fresh, unlike some restaurants... All in all a very positive experience.

Found the restaurant via Googlemaps. We were given a very warm welcome and were lucky to get a table even without a reservation. The food was served promptly even though there was a lot to do. The pizzas were very, very tasty. I can more than recommend Pizza Calzone. The service was very attentive. Can't understand the criticism from other users that the service staff are young and inexperienced. Of course you can't do everything perfectly straight away, you just need experience. Would definitely go there again

Als iemand met jarenlange ervaring in horeca en gastronomie - ook als gast -, laat ik me niet snel imponeren. Maar dit restaurant wist me compleet te verrassen! Vanaf het moment dat ik binnenkwam, voelde alles perfect aan. De bediening blonk uit in attentie en professionaliteit; zonder dat ik iets hoefde te vragen, kreeg ik niet alleen de lunchkaart, maar ook de dinerkaart aangereikt, een glas water naast mijn wijn, en zelfs onze hondjes werden verwend met een bakje water. Dit soort gastvrijheid is zeldzaam en maakt direct indruk. Het eten was een ware traktatie. De carpaccio was perfect op temperatuur en vol van smaak. De gegratineerde champignons met prosciutto en parmezaan crème waren ronduit onweerstaanbaar – ik weet zeker dat ik die bij een volgend bezoek weer bestel. Ook het pane della casa met dips en de spaghetti napoletana stelden absoluut niet teleur. Elk gerecht was een feestje voor de smaakpapillen. De warme, gezellige inrichting en de open houding naar onze hondjes toe maakten de ervaring compleet. Dit restaurant heeft niet alleen 5 sterren verdiend, maar ook een plekje in mijn hart. Wij komen met veel plezier terug!

To be honest, I am no longer easily impressed - due to years of experience - but what a wonderful surprise! The service was excellent. Without asking, in addition to the lunch menu, the dinner menu was also provided, water was served with my wine and our dogs were given water. Fantastic. Furthermore, the food was absolutely delicious; the carpaccio was tasty and at a good temperature, I will definitely order the gratinated mushrooms with prosciutto and parmesan cream again. The pane della casa with dips and the spaghetti napoletana; everything was excellent. All this and the cozy interior and the fact that our dogs were also welcome mean that I can only give 5 stars. We would love to come back again!

Het slechtste restaurant in Winterswijk waar we tot nu toe hebben gegeten. Eten zelfs terug laten gaan. Slechte haas biefstuk ooit.

On the occasion of my mother's 75th birthday, my parents had invited the children and supporters for a weekend in Winterswijk. They thought it would be nice to have eight of us out for dinner at Villaggio. As a starter we ordered two baskets of bread with sauces. The warm, elongated, small rolls were delicious, but 14 euros for the two sparsely filled baskets with six small rolls each (maximum 1.5 per person) was quite pricey. It took at least twenty minutes before this starter was served. While serving, the waitress accidentally let the three bowls of sauces slide off one of the two plates and they ended up on my mother's blouse. Can happen. A cloth was brought and an apology was offered. My mother had two grease stains in her blouse. She indicated to the waitress that she was very sorry about her new blouse. No further attention was paid to this. After a while the main menu was served. People were not proactively asked who wanted to order a second round of drinks. We had to indicate this ourselves even though the drinking glasses were almost empty. One of our table companions had ordered a Gorgonzola pizza with salami. It had thick slices of sausage on it and the waitress called it a Chorizo ​​pizza. When we told her it had to be Gorgonzola with salami, she walked with the plate to the open kitchen, discussed it for a while and came back with the same plate and now called it a pizza Gorgonzola. No more word about the sausage which was clearly still Chorizo. When half of the table companions already had their main menu, it took too long before the other half got their food. The first group had to wait at least 5 minutes to start eating at the same time. One tablemate had ordered a salami pizza. The salami was spread over the pizza in triangular dots the size of each 1/4 salami slice. I had a pizza Diavolo: salami, bell pepper and chili peppers. Also here are the triangles of salami, but relatively very few. Paprika predominated. From a restaurant pizza you expect a somewhat crispy, thin base around the edges. At Villaggio, the pizzas are squishy with thicker, soft edges. Another table guest had ordered steak, medium done. The steak was far from medium, leaning more towards rare. The accompanying vegetables amounted to two cauliflower florets, a broccoli floret and a few carrots. The potatoes were about five potato wedges. All this on a large plate of €23, which is too expensive for my taste for what was on the plate. Finally, during checkout, I told another waitress and a man who seemed more 'in charge' about the incident with the sauces on my mother's new blouse and the fact that there was no discussion about how to handle this . The two employees initially seemed sympathetic, nodded in agreement, said that this was not possible and I expected a correction of this indifference. However, there was only one more 'sorry' and the man joked that I could bring a few extra mints for the departing group. No responsibility was taken for the damage caused. The consistently negligent handling of this situation by three employees in a row was downright disrespectful and unprofessional. I see more comments about this restaurant in customer reviews on this and other sites. I also see the determination with which these reviews are countered in some places by the restaurant owners with every now and then a smart-aleck sneer back at the reviewer. This fits in with the overall image of disrespect and unprofessionalism that we also felt at Villaggio. Next time we will definitely walk one door further for a better Italian dining experience in a restaurant where they know how to keep an eye on the customer when it is extra necessary.
