We had dinner in Ouderkerk and now we had lunch in Laren, both amazing, see you next time

On June 13th, we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary there with dear friends. The food is top-notch, the staff is top-notch too; super friendly and helpful. It is certainly incredibly beautiful for us to look back on. Love from Henk and Anneke Westenberg.

Had a rijsttafel at Ron gastrobar. Started with some prawn crackers with peanut sauce. Nothing special, but nice to nibble on. Daging smoor croquettes as a starter. I found them very flavorful. A delicious Indonesian beer to go with it. Lots of small bowls on the table with dishes that were well-seasoned. I would have preferred them served a bit warmer, despite the warming plate. The goat and chicken satay was very tasty. Good grilled flavor and a good sauce too. All the dishes were really well-seasoned, by the way. There was also some white 🍚 and some fried rice, but that was... a bit hard. Dessert was served in a container with liquid nitrogen. Soft serve ice cream with red fruits and spekkoek. Tasty. The service was good and friendly, and the interior is warm and cozy. Certainly not the best Indonesian cuisine, but tasty nonetheless. So I would say well-spiced. Good food and good service. First time in Laren, normally we go to Oudekerk aan de Amstel.

Waited well over an hour for food

I went out for dinner here with my husband on a weekday evening. I found the online reservation a bit inconvenient because you have to tick 'experiences'. I had no idea what to expect from that, as I hadn't been there before. We chose the rijsttafel. The starter and dessert were created by the chef. All courses were incredibly flavorful and clearly prepared with a lot of love. The only downside was the table, which was actually too small for the large rijsttafel. Otherwise, we enjoyed ourselves immensely and will definitely be back!

We had a delicious meal in a very cozy setting. We always want to eat early, so it is a bit emptier than if you come later, but that has to do with the fact that, as you get older, you can't sleep with such a full stomach. We feel the service has deteriorated slightly compared to the past. Some of the former enthusiasm seems to have disappeared. We found the kitchen quite noisy, but there was a good atmosphere and you could tell they enjoy their work.

What a shame! We chose Ron Laren because the four of us had something to celebrate. On Easter Monday, it turned out there was suddenly a modified menu. That wasn't a problem in itself, but neither the starter nor the dessert turned out to be anything particularly special. The rijsttafel (Indonesian rice table) was less extensive than expected. The portions turned out to be very small, so we ordered some extra -> immediately added to the bill. The service was a bit flat, too easygoing, ‘on autopilot’. The reservation didn't seem to have gone through properly; we had to ask for an explanation of the dishes…. After previous very good experiences in Oudekerk and Bloemendaal, we had expected a bit more overall. In short: maintain the quality, befitting Ron's establishments. Especially considering the prices being charged (100 euros per person).

We had a delicious Indonesian meal with very friendly and helpful service. The price was a bit of a downside. We had received special gift vouchers from Ron Gastrobar worth 100 euros and had to pay a digital deposit of 50 euros in advance. In the end, we had 25 euros left from the voucher. Since we do not live near Laren, this was a bit disappointing.

Pleasant, not noisy, and excellent food. Beautiful rijsttafel for 2 people with gluten-free dishes.

We had a delicious meal. We were seated on the first floor. Very cozy. We had the fish rijsttafel twice and the regular rijsttafel three times. More than enough food and everything was tasty.

I was very positive about the food. Although it was quite expensive, we enjoyed the flavors of the Angus Rijsttafel (rice table). The service was very friendly, but it took an awfully long time to get our food and drink orders. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and you can chat peacefully. What I really found unacceptable was the price of €7.50!! for 750 ml of Aqua Panna still water. It was immediately offered when it was brought to the table. The purchase price was less than €1.30. Later, I ordered a carafe of tap water, which turned out to be free.

Cold food and very poor service, we felt uncared for. We paid way too much for what we got. A shame, because expectations were high.

Wow, what a wonderful experience we had for our 5th anniversary at this lovely restaurant. Delicious food, a taste explosion (you don't have to be Indonesian to know what good food means), friendly staff and service, and everything was taken care of down to the last detail. From snacks to rice table dishes and delicious desserts. Thanks to the staff for the lovely atmosphere and surprising ambiance (special thanks to Melissa, you made our evening magical). We'll definitely be back.

Great, let's start with that. Beautiful restaurant, clean and with an Indonesian atmosphere. We had the rijsttafel (rice table) with a snack, a bottle of wine, a coffee, and a chocolate. Total: €119.50 Friendly staff and good communication. We started with a croquette with a delicious sauce. For the main course, we had a rijsttafel (rice table), what wonderful flavors. Everything was presented beautifully and neatly. The flavors of the dishes complemented each other beautifully. The perfect Indonesian flavor you're looking for—not too spicy, but a pure sensation. We were celebrating our 5th anniversary, and upon arrival, there was a lovely card on the table. As a surprise, we received a kind of cake with an elderberry filling. Very fresh and delicious. Thank you for this fun and wonderful experience. We will definitely be back. Keep up the good work, fantastic.

Great service, delicious, and plentiful food. The Rijsttafel (rice table) for 4 was excellent! We ordered coffee for 3 people afterward, and we received 4 slices of spekkoek (one person didn't want coffee). Now, that's service! We'd love to come back!

I've eaten here five times now. Unfortunately, the quality seems to have clearly declined over the last two visits. The flavors have become flatter, and the stew started to crumble. This is often the case with stews that have been stored for too long. A shame, because this used to be a top restaurant for me. Out of curiosity, I also ordered Ron's FEBO croquette. With two big names and a price of €9, you expect a serious croquette. Instead, you get two mini croquettes, slightly larger than a bitterbal. The flavor is probably fine, but they're so small that it's over before you can really taste them. As a result, it feels more like a gimmick than a real dish. The service is young and not very experienced, but serious and friendly. The downstairs is beautifully and exotically decorated, but the upstairs is unfortunately much less inviting. We had requested to sit downstairs, but that wasn't possible due to the size of the group. A shame, especially since we had made a reservation a month in advance.

What a disappointment! I have a lot of experience with Indonesian cuisine. This restaurant is reputed to be of high quality, so my expectations were accordingly. Unfortunately, the quality of the food is so poor that an average takeaway shop is better than a rijsttafel here. - The restaurant: It has a cozy and inviting atmosphere. But for fine dining, it seriously lacks finesse. You get a bare table with an electronic light on it. No fancy table setting with a tablecloth and beautifully folded napkins. - As a starter, you get a bowl of prawn crackers and emping mixed with a bowl of satay sauce, but this too is not neatly presented. - The staff is very young and takes a long time to subtly get their attention. We didn't receive any explanation of the dishes once the rijsttafel was served. Payment after the meal is made at the table itself. Simply not elegant. When I got to my coat, I had to search for it myself, and only then did the staff realize I needed help. My coat was handed to me but not put on, which is a real shame. We ordered the 'Agus' rice table. Unfortunately, it was terrible. The three fried dishes were tough, and the meat or fish dishes (not sure which one) were so dried out, as if they had been sitting on a warming plate for a day. The fried plantain had a crust that was too greasy, tough, and thick, and was quite cold. Another striking feature was the flavors of the dishes: none of them were consistent! The rendang and babi ketjap were completely lacking in flavor. The stew was incredibly tough and difficult to eat in all the dishes. The kipsatie and saté kambing tasted far too "smoky," and the kamping sauce didn't complement the meat, so you missed its unique flavor. The sajoer lodeh was watery, and the vegetables were uncooked. Such a waste! There was no flavor of the familiar peteh beans. The side dishes were also subpar, with the boemboe (meat paste) used seeming to come from standard packaging. No depth, no umami, but far too intensely salty/sweet/spicy, yet the depth of the spices was missing. The dessert was enjoyable and delicious. A fine restaurant for the average Dutch person. But if you're looking for a good Indonesian tasting experience for a connoisseur, I'd go elsewhere.

The next day, you'll receive an email asking you to write a review. This is for an internal system, even though they say it's available online by phone. This ensures that negative reviews never appear online. Here's my review: €150 for a few appetizers, served by students at a table still caked with remnants from previous guests. The food is kept warm in the kitchen under heat lamps, which meant half the dishes were lukewarm and some were even ice cold because they hadn't been removed from the refrigerator in time. All of this had to be eaten at a table that was far too small for the rijsttafel (rice table). Furthermore, we were served the rijsttafel first and then had to wait for plates—a clearly incorrect order. The amount of rice and nasi (fried rice) was also very limited. Some dishes were certainly tasty, but the prices are absurd in relation to the service, the quantity of food, and the quality you provide.

We've had amazing Indonesian food twice already! The slightly higher price is more than worth it!

I had dinner at Ron Gastrobar in Laren with my girlfriend for my birthday. I really enjoyed it. The staff was very polite and unhurried, the music was great (not too loud, but also not too soft), and the food was yuck! Nice restaurant, but the quantity was very disappointing. There was a deal through Social Deal, but in my opinion, you don't get a full meal. You can upgrade on the spot, but then the deal is gone.

Recommendation: order a rijsttafel (rice table), but make sure you have an empty stomach. You get a lot! Very friendly service.

The food was absolutely delicious! The service was fantastic and incredibly helpful. We wanted to sit next to each other on a bench, and as soon as they had room, they were happy to move us to a different table! Now that's what I call thoughtful and accommodating!

We went again and this time we sat at the front, but you do feel the pull from the door. Otherwise, we had another delicious meal, and I'll stick with the following: We had the extensive rijsttafel (rice table) in a lovely atmosphere, with good service and a pleasant ambiance. Reservations are required, but the food is very good. Why 4 stars? Considering the price in relation to the portions, there are restaurants that do better. For example, two people with one egg is a bit meager.

The food is good, but the service doesn't live up to its reputation. Food comes before an aperitif. Drinks are forgotten and rarely asked for in between. Empty glasses aren't cleared away for the entire dinner. The Rijsttafel (rice table) isn't complete and isn't brought back until very late. And coffee for half the table arrives after everyone else has already finished their ice cream. It's a shame, I had higher expectations. We did get free coffee, as we later saw on the receipt.

What a charming location in the delightful, Christmas-themed village of Laren. Agus's Indonesian rice table was delicious, and the champagne was fantastic!

Cozy atmosphere, but the food was disappointing. We dined here yesterday. The restaurant is warm, tastefully decorated, and truly exudes Indonesian ambiance—which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, we were less enthusiastic about the food. We chose the Rijsttafel Agus (rice table). With the exception of the satay ayam, we found the other dishes lacking the right balance of flavors. Several dishes clearly deviated from the authentic Indonesian flavors we're used to, and we even found some too sour. We also felt that several dishes lacked the depth and harmony you normally find in Indonesian cuisine. All in all, the food was unfortunately disappointing. We realize that the flavors are probably fine for the average Dutch eater, but for those well-versed in Indonesian cuisine, our experience is best described as disappointing.

Nice restaurant with friendly staff, and it was so sweet that they sang for my bday! Noise levels are ok, service fine however a bit messy (ie having to ask for the wine of my wife 4 times), the food itself was good, although a bit depending on the saus sometimes. Highly recommended, would come back for sure.

The food was delicious. The welcome and service were mediocre. We waited a long time before being greeted, and after our drinks, no one was seen again, even though our glasses were empty. The portions were embarrassingly small. For a "normal" price, that would have been small. All in all, if you pay that much, you should expect more.

The quality and taste of the food are excellent, but it's a real shame that they use (small) containers. For four adults, this is very little. The quantity was therefore extremely disappointing. €40 per person for a rijsttafel (rice table) is not worth it. Such a shame...

The food was delicious. We had to repeatedly remind the staff to order drinks. The price-quality ratio is starting to get a bit out of whack, especially with drinks/wines (cappuccino €5?).

As a native Javanese, I simply had to eat here at least once, even if it's a good hour's drive. Absolutely no regrets. It was delicious, just as Indonesian food should be. We chose the Agus rice table, which is highly recommended. It was well-seasoned and had plenty of variety. "Our" hostess (Sophie?) still knows the ropes: polite, friendly, hospitable (and everything by heart).

Cozy place with friendly and helpful staff. The food was pretty good. The naananas (pineapple with rice porridge and something else) wasn't as good. The rice wasn't cooked through from the rice porridge.

The food, in terms of taste, atmosphere, and service, is superb! But the portions for groups are embarrassingly small... I see photos posted of a tray with a set menu for two people, but two trays with the same ingredients are served to a group of 10, 5 people per dish! With Indonesian hospitality, you always have leftovers, now going home with a rumbling stomach... too bad, 2 stars for the meagerness; otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars because the flavors were good.

Last weekend, we ate at Ron Gastrobar Indonesia in Laren for the first time, and it was a treat! We had a wonderful meal (it was truly amazing!). We had a great spot (a table for two against the wall by the bar). The rijsttafel (rice table) fit perfectly because they cleverly created a raised platform so we could add something underneath (and there was plenty of it). The service was friendly and professional. The restrooms and chairs were excellent. Paying the deposit wasn't a problem (it's understandable, and you have to pay anyway :-) This is highly recommended, and we'll definitely be back.

The food was quite good, the rijsttafel was good but not significantly different from the average Indonesian restaurant. So, the reputation is a bit overblown by the Ron Blaauw brand name, which is a good excuse to make the (not listed on the menu) drinks extra expensive. The service was friendly and fast...until you want to pay...

No chance! Paying a €30 deposit for a reservation, then being stuck with a 2-hour and 15-minute time limit, despite explaining my illness and tube feeding, so I can't eat quickly. It's all a hassle. (Very hospitable, and Indonesian hospitality is hard to come by.) It's a shame you've lost a regular customer of both the home boxes and the restaurant. P.S. Maybe recruit fewer social deal-loving customers and treat your normally well-paying guests fairly.

Everything is right about this restaurant, the service is excellent, everything you eat and drink is made with care. Recommended.

Recently took advantage of the Summer Deal. A (surprise) menu for two people including a bottle of rosé for €85. This is provided you reserve early or later in the evening and pay in advance. The food was very good and the service excellent. The only thing that bothered us was that you had to order the rice separately, which wasn't included in the deal. The main course consisted exclusively of meat or fish, so the rice was absolutely essential. This felt like a catch. Should have made the menu a bit more expensive, including the rice? Or communicate the menu beforehand, so you're transparent about what to expect.

We had a wonderful meal at Ron Gastrobar Indonesia in Laren. The welcome from Rachel was fantastic. Hospitable and friendly without being intrusive. Hats off to Rachel! Of course, our compliments also go to the chef, who ensured that every dish surprised us with the authentic flavors of Indonesia. We'd love to come back.

The food was absolutely delicious. It was very busy, but the staff did everything they could to bridge the wait for the rijsttafel (rice table). The food is delicious, but again, you do have to wait a while.

We had a lovely meal here. We made a pre-order, as there was no room left on our previous attempt. It's a bit odd that you have to pay a deposit when making a reservation. In our case, it was €30. I understand, but it doesn't seem very customer-friendly. Anyway, we ordered the rijsttafel (rice table) for two, and there were quite a few portions. If you order a rijsttafel at a Chinese restaurant, you can eat from it for three days, but that's definitely not the case here. I never go to those all-you-can-eat restaurants, but personally, I thought the portions could have been a bit more filling. I also found the portions of white rice and nasi goreng quite small. Of course, this is just my personal experience, and some people will find this more than enough. Not for me, and I'm not a big eater. However, the quality of the food was very good, and I can only be positive about that.

Ron Gastrobar in Laren had been on our to-do list for a while. The ambiance is beautiful and atmospheric. The high tables are a bit cramped, but luckily, a low table was arranged for us. We were served by Noor—and truly, every restaurant deserves a Noor! What lovely, hospitable service. The rijsttafel (rice table) arrived quickly and the flavors were excellent, only a shame it was served cold.

Opgegroeid in Indonesie, met ouders, grootouders en tantes die daar geboren en opgegroeid zijn, kan ik beweren wat rijsttafel betreft aanzienlijk ervaring te hebben. De katjangsaus was al een gedicht. Sate Kambing met geit en niet met schaap. Sate geroosterd op houtskool, zo als het hoort. Ongelovelijk. Personeel matig attent, tweede ronde bier duurde 20 minuten, maar ze waren wel heel aardig.

We had a rijsttafel here last month. The food wasn't bad, just a bit average. I expected more; you know, Ron Blaauw. The atmosphere was relaxed, though a bit dark. Initially, we had a small table, but luckily a larger one was available. The service was friendly, but a bit too obvious about routine for my liking. What bothered us quite a bit was the music. Not too loud, but it didn't fit the surroundings at all, and somehow it became irritating.

We zaten heerlijk op het terras. Het is een smaakvol ingericht restaurant en de bediening is reuze vriendelijk en voorkomend. We namen met z’n vieren rijsttafel Agus. De meest uitgebreide met vlees en vis. Helaas konden we in de Udang Peteh en in de Sajoer Lodeh geen petehboon vinden. Het was lekker, maar we misten toch wat uitgesproken smaken. Zo vond ik de Nasi Goreng niet te vergelijken met die van thuis, lekker maar voor mij vreemd. We waren euro 269 kwijt voor deze lunch. Tja.

Heerlijke rijsttafel met niet te grote porties zodat je niet te snel genoeg hebt. Het attente personeel gaf duidelijk aan welke gerechten het waren en in welke volgorde je deze het beste kon eten.

Met een Social Deal voucher maar eens een rijsttafel uitgeprobeerd. Deze werd op een ludieke rijsttafel geserveerd en was heerlijk. Het personeel was uitermate vriendelijk en gaf duidelijk aan wat alle schaaltjes bevatten Dat maakte alles af.

Ron Gastrobar Indonesia Laren is truly a fantastic experience! The Indonesian food is delicious - full of flavour, beautifully presented and prepared with care. We have been there several times now and it is a party every time. Extra special: during our last visit Ron Blaauw was there himself! That made the evening complete. What a disappointment! For a three-person rice table, you get exactly the same amount of food as for a two-person portion, except for the chopsticks. Then we are glad that we ordered a starter, because otherwise this would really have been too little. In addition, as a lady on the toilet, you can look forward to being wedged against the toilet bowl - i.e. in the left toilet. The right one is completely unusable for women who are a bit wider. Oh yes, and although that did not apply this time: if you come too often, the service conveniently forgets to serve the kroepoek as a welcome. So for the time being, not worth repeating for us.

What a great experience to eat here. Tasty dishes with top service. A definite recommendation

Never before had a rijsttafel served so quickly. The staff came to ask 3 times if we had made a choice. The aperitif was not finished yet and within 5 minutes the dishes were on the table. Very tasty, very sweet. Not very fresh; Atjar clearly not fresh and kentang not either. We decided to leave it at that. Within the hour we were standing outside, disillusioned.

We often visit Agus/Ron in Laren, even though we no longer live nearby. Every time the food is of an excellent standard and exceeds our expectations. The chef knows what a good taste palette means and that is reflected in all dishes. The staff is of an excellent standard and knows how to make it a very nice evening! Knowledge and expertise that you don't often come across!

Veel over gehoord en gelezen en nu met werkgever gegeten!! Wat een ervaring en van af hap 1 in het voorgerecht (black box, een aanrader) t/m het desert, één groot smaakpapillen-feest!!! Met collega’s beide rijsttafels laten uitserveren (combi vis en vlees) en van alle gerechtjes genoten!! Het toetje met de mousse in de vorm van een pinda zag er echt geniaal uit!! Heard a lot about it and now dined with employer. From the first bite of the starter (Black Box) to the dessert a great taste bud feast‼️dinner both the Rijstafel Danny and the Rijstafel Agus served and all dishes were top of taste. Lots of diversity, both fish and meat/chicken, everything completely in balance. Top dessert was the mousse in the shape of a peanut, genius. Friendly service, but make a reservation in advance. This way you avoid disappointment.

What a fantastic meal you can have here! We had the rice table with fish and meat. What carefully prepared dishes. Individually weighed flavours. Nothing was too 'thick'. The serving staff were friendly, quick and humorous. A place to come back to, chapeau! One point for improvement is perhaps the metal chairs. After more than an hour I got cramps in my thighs due to the high position of the metal tube at the front of the seat. After walking and stretching in the toilet for a while and exchanging the chair for an armchair, the cramp was gone.
