Saray Turks Restaurant in Binnenstad

Ordered it yesterday through Thuiszorgd. Really enjoyed it! It was delicious and tasty. The portions were just right. Delivered on time. I also got some extras :) so sweet!

We went here for dinner with our one-year-old son. We waited maybe an hour and a half for our food. We had soup and bread as a starter, which arrived fairly quickly. However, our son had already finished his meal a while ago, so after an hour of waiting, we asked him what was going on. Yes, it would be here soon. After an hour and a half, we packed our things and went to the cash register. We were asked to pay 17.50 for bread and soup, and our colleague told the boss in Turkish, "They forgot to tell us." And we understood that, while they told us in Dutch, "Yes, it will be here soon." Suddenly, the man was able to sort it out quickly. No, thank you, and never again!

We were here with a couple of friends on a Sunday evening. We chose the "all you can eat" option to sample the best of the starters and main courses – everything was delicious and very plentiful! The menu also offers an "all you can drink" option – however, the waiters apparently don't want to sell it. When we wanted to order after our aperitif – Prosecco, bread, and dips – the waiter annoyedly pointed out that we were too late. Despite a large number of waiters present, we usually had to wait a long time for our drinks. Wine service was also not available, despite the high-priced selection. The Turkish tea for dessert was charged for, something we're not used to in Turkey. Overall, a very delicious but expensive evening, where the service was disappointing.

The restaurant initially makes a promising impression. The ambiance is tastefully designed, the starter is well-balanced, and raises expectations. But the main course was a bitter disappointment! The meat was of extremely poor quality – dry, tough, and we had the strong impression it had been reheated from the day before. The bulgur rice was sticky, and the other main courses we ordered didn't seem fresh either. Our criticism on site was met with no understanding, but rather with justifications and inappropriate arrogance. The manager's statement was particularly irritating: When I pointed out that the food served had nothing to do with authentic Turkish cuisine, she replied that it "wasn't intended for Turkish guests" because they "cook at home anyway" – a particularly condescending and questionable remark. We have truly never experienced such poor food offered at such a high price. Definitely never again!

Beautiful restaurant, very friendly staff, you really have to love the food. The tapas lacked flavor with cold white bread; the white sauce was the best. The meat dishes had a lot of sauce and were quite fatty, and some potato slices with the burger. The baklava dessert came with no ice cream, so it was rather plain. A cup of tea tasted much better. But like I said, you either love it or you hate it. Not for us again. But absolutely a very nice restaurant!

The €34.95 mixed grill per person wasn't worth it. Where you'd previously received a generous platter of meat, including a generous portion of kebab, it was now just a few meager pieces of meat on skewers. The preparation wasn't medium as requested. The price, quantity, and quality were below par. The other two dishes were okay.

We've been dining at Saray regularly for 30 years now. We've never really had anything to complain about, everything is always top-notch, but on Friday night we had a very unpleasant experience. At 6:15 AM we were enjoying our starters, although the main course had already been served. By 7:30 AM, we still hadn't received a plate of food. When we pointed this out to the staff, they replied that it was very busy. I pointed out that it wasn't busy at 6:15 AM, and that four tables after us had already been occupied. I got into a discussion with the staff, saying they hadn't forgotten us, but that they were very busy. They did let me check their screen to see when they'd entered the information. Finally, someone came from the kitchen to say that it was very annoying that we had to wait so long, but that our food would be on the table within 60 seconds. This ultimately took another 5 minutes. We were quite irritated by this point, especially since we had friends with us who had never been there before. Not a great first impression. We were told we could choose dessert at their expense after our meal (very polite). However, after our plates were cleared, the menu didn't arrive, and we left after 10 minutes. It was busy, but again, by the time we placed our orders, it hadn't arrived yet. I also find it inappropriate for the waitstaff to argue with customers. If they had said, "We've forgotten you a bit, but I'll add urgency," it would have been a completely different story. The food was otherwise fine, and there was more than enough, but the whole evening had a bitter aftertaste. We won't be returning anytime soon.

Fairly pricey but delicious food

Why 1 star simply cannot pay with a gift card on Saturday, this is announced in a tone of voice "you idiot, that's on the site" but you guessed it, it's certainly on Saray's site!!! But it is DEFINITELY NOT on the page to which you are sent from the gift card in question. So simply you will never see us again because there is a huge difference between being right and being right, I really felt belittled!!

Went to Easter Monday, the food was fine, but I thought the atmosphere was very short and surly, even though it was not busy. We as regular customers are now dropping out. M v g Koostra family.

Unfortunately I got sick from the starter. The prices of a number of dishes on the menu do not match the bill. Unfortunately, when paying we had to pay more for the main course than stated on the menu.

It was a lukewarm bite. We were 7 people and it doesn't matter what you order, you all get the same vegetable stew with your lukewarm main course. I had the leg of lamb right out of the bag as I remember it from my short time in a Mexican kitchen. Actually everything was lukewarm and dull. Starters were tasty, staff was great and the seating was quite comfortable.

Delicious food, but the 'all-you-can-eat promotion' is a bit misleading. You get three courses. There is a lot of time between dishes, so you don't really have the chance to order anything extra.

There was a feeling of doubt in the beginning. Very busy, it was difficult to hear each other. Still the food is very good though. Lots of variety, very tasty preparation and fast and friendly service. Yes, ultimately recommended. Maybe I'll come back at a quieter time. It's not the cheapest place to eat.

Op donderdagavond met z'n tweeën gegeten bij Saray in Leeuwarden. Ons eerste bezoek daar. Keurige ontvangt, groot restaurant met veel ruimte rond de tafels. Ruime keuze uit voor-, hoofd- en nagerechten. Prettige, ongedwongen sfeer en dito bediening. Heerlijke gerechten! Nette prijzen. Snelle bediening. Wst wil je nog meer?

Spending a weekend with the two of us in Leeuwarden for my birthday. We visited here on Friday evening and enjoyed a 3 course dinner, because we also had a Wonderbox voucher.

Had a lovely romantic dinner yesterday. The vegetarian dishes were really delicious this time too. Very neat, smooth and hospitable service! Good portions. We always go home satisfied and well-filled. Even with the gift card promotions. Until next time.

Spent 18 euros for 4 super small snacks as a starter. The quality was hard to find this time. Added three small bowls of sauce which didn't go well at all. Here too, the price/quality is completely out of proportion. We canceled dinner and went elsewhere to eat.

Met 2 personen uit eten geweest. Het eten was opzich prima. Het personee l vriendelijk. Heel erg jammer dat bij afrekenen wordt gemeld dat de dinner cadeau kaart alleen op door-de-weekse dagen kan worden verzilverd. Staat bij online reservering op de site. Dikke pech wanneer ke zo op zaterdag komt binnenwandelen. Daarnaast bestel je 2 x een gerecht met aardappeltjes en groente. Krijg je met zn 2en 1 set. Bestel je een schaalyje aardappeltjes mij. Wordt die doodleuk ook nog eens in rekening gebracht......

We went here for dinner on Sunday April 28. Opted for the all-you-can-eat meal of 2 hours for no less than 33.50 p.p. excluding drinks. When the 2 hours were over, they still had to serve the last regular course after which you could finally choose something from the menu. The wait for the food between courses was ridiculously long (over an hour). In the end I couldn't even finish my food and had to leave hungry because otherwise I would miss a performance. Even though I have indicated several times that I did not have too much time. When she finally served the main course, I immediately asked for the cheese items I had been served again, but then did not receive what I had ordered and agreed upon at all. Really can't say enough about this restaurant. The food itself was not very tasty either. For example, the lamb chop was in a very sour sauce. Extremely disappointed that I had to wait more than an hour between dishes, so I didn't even leave with a full stomach. Especially considering how expensive this was. Also reported it at the counter, but they didn't do anything with it either. I'll never come here again. 1/5

Delicious three-course surprise menu. Always good and great food again. We indicated that we would rather not eat lamb and received a chicken dish instead. We were packed again 🤗

We had a very lovely dinner here and I was surprised about the lamb I ordered - so tender and juicy! The starter Turkish bread with spice butter was delicious too. The proportion was really generous that we almost couldn’t finish them.

Food fine, service a bit below par. Young ladies in the service, some of whom speak little English. Atmosphere is substandard. As if I'm sitting in a community center having something to eat.

My husband and I love Saray- it's our favorite place to go. The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The staff is always kind and helpful, even with my very basic Dutch (I am a native English-speaker learning Dutch). I highly recommend the meze plate, sigara boregi, and Saray (lamb) kebab. Oh, and the macaron ice cream sandwiches are AMAZING.

I have eaten here 8 times over the years and I have always had a very good experience in terms of food and service. the staff is friendly and the food is very tasty! The restaurant is very large, but it is beautifully and attractively decorated I will definitely be back, see you next time!

We ordered yoghurt dip with bread as appetizer. For main we got mixed grill and kebab (not pictured was the sides: bulgur, salad, and crispy wedges). The moment you enter the main dining area, it feels like you’re transported to Turkey. The wait staff are very attentive and quick but not rushy. The food oh man.. the food.. high quality meats, big portions, and suuuuuper flavourful (forget about the salt and pepper on the table! you dont need them!). Definitely good value for the price!

Attentive service and nothing to complain about the food, it came at the right pace, was varied, hot and more than enough. We had the six-course tasting menu. It was quite full here on Wednesday, which says enough about the popularity of this restaurant, which has been located here for many years.

Today my husband and I visited this restaurant. It was Saturday, the hall was full, but we had booked a table in advance, so they found a free one for us. The staff is very friendly, fast service. My husband and I ordered a dish for 2 people, they brought us 6 types in turn from starter to dessert, it was tasty, but a lot😂

We had a delicious meal yesterday, portions are more than sufficient, everything tastes good. Staff is very friendly. Despite the crowds, we received our food quickly. The inside seems a bit dated and it was noisy. However, the food and staff were perfect, which I think is more important. This is our second time now and we will definitely come back.
