Vlaams Friethuis de Meeuw in Landelijk gebied Katwijk

After a long time, I finally got to enjoy a gluten-free frikandel and a gluten-free kroket again – and what can I say: a true culinary delight! This is exactly what you'd expect from a Dutch chip shop: cozy, authentic, and with a lovely outdoor terrace. I especially like that they also offer gluten-free dessert options – so there's truly something for everyone. A definite recommendation and five well-deserved stars!

The best fries I've ever had. The staff is super friendly.

The Flemish Fries House is located right on the main coastal road and a busy bike path. Outside, there are picnic tables (on a raised platform) where you can enjoy your order. Inside, you can place your order, and a pager will be given to indicate it's ready. I ordered two small fries but received two large ones (and later realized I'd paid for the large ones). My beloved frikandel speciaal had no cut, so the sauce slid down the side. The staff, in my opinion, are very young.

We love stopping by after a walk on the beach and tucking into a huge family-sized portion of fries! The best fries we've ever had!

Super delicious and lots of vegetarian and vegan options for snacks and sauces, fantastic! Nice outdoor seating at picnic tables. Parking is limited, but we managed, even though it was busy.

If you're in Katwijk and don't feel like fish but you do fancy Flemish fries, this is the place to be!

Delicious food, and cozy seating.

I've been coming here for a while now, and I'm always amazed at how good the fries can be. To be honest, there's a bit of inconsistency. They don't always make the perfect fries. But usually, they're spot on: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Real fries, just the way you hope they taste. As far as I'm concerned, De Meeuw is among the best in the Netherlands when it comes to fries. And despite the occasional fluctuations in quality, I keep coming back.

The staff was very friendly, especially the cashier. The food was fine, the fries just needed a bit of salt. The atmosphere was okay, except there were a few kids outside who were against Eminem and were yelling about Gen Z and canceling, which unfortunately ruined the atmosphere.

The burgers and soft serve ice cream are a dream. I'd go back anytime.

Hands down the best burger I've ever had. The truffle and bacon burger is highly recommended.

The fries are very good; I can't remember having better. The snack was excellent. Fast service and a good price. I would definitely eat here again if I'm in the area.

The staff is fast and friendly. The fries are out of this world, so delicious. The (open) kitchen is super clean. Highly recommended when the weather is nice, as the terrace is perfect for sitting outside.

After a tip here we had a bamischijf, hogweed and fries, 3 times great, ice cream for dessert. The sun also came out for a while👍

Good chip shop. We've tried a variety of different things, and everything has been good. The portions are quite large. Definitely recommended. It has good seating and a restroom.

Amazing! It's an unassuming little shop, but it's a real buzz 😄 typical Dutch fried specialties and soft ice cream. We pre-ordered and were able to pick it up on time, within 25 minutes.

A gold honest guy who sells good snacks. Prices and portions are really great. Many snack bars are expensive for what you get. Not here! Favorite in the area!

A very nice and pleasant place with great croquettes and one of the best fries we have ever tried! Plenty of choices. The staff is very welcoming, helpful, and nice! It was a real highlight of the day!

Delicious snacks and fries, lightning fast friendly service

The fries are great, nothing to complain about. The soft ice cream too. However, the burgers are so incredibly bad while they don't have to be and the price they ask for them is ridiculous. Brioche bun, even toasted, lettuce fine, tomato, sauce all in balance. But then comes the chicken burger itself. A 10 for 2€ chicken separator meat-like burger from the AH freezer (no, absolutely not chicken fillet) for 7+ EURO. KFC zinger burger with a decent crispy crust and chicken fillet is around 5€. What an unnecessary cost saving by putting the cheapest wholesale nonsense on such a nice bun. The hamburger ditto. Everything is fine, top even except for the meat, the cheapest ham-tasting dry piece of nonsense "meat" burger. How good the rest is is in such clear contrast to the "meat" that is dumped on the burgers and the price of such a burger that does not match it at all. Sorry for the language but this is really not acceptable. Make the burgers €3.50 then it is at least correct. 2 stars because the burgers bring the average down so much.

Delicious fresh fries and that is actually the most important thing in a snack bar. The location is nice especially with nice weather. It was very busy, so they have less time and attention for you, but it runs like a train and you don't have to wait long for your food. Definitely recommended!

Very nice! Really good fries, but also Bami, Frikandel and burgers were very tasty at a good price. Despite 3 people in front, 6 minutes for my order. Everything packed well, sauce in the toof instead of mushy. It's a shame that this only exists for us on vacation. Be careful: Flemish mayo is sour, which wasn't our taste, but you have to try something.

Probably the best chip shop in Katwijk! Excellent fries (!!!), a great selection of vegetarian snacks, very friendly and fast service and, above all, excellent cleanliness! (Unfortunately, my photo doesn't show the appetizingness as I would have liked to show it). UPDATE (after 2nd visit): Also recommended are the burgers!

A very good cross-section of Dutch star-rated snack culture! No matter what you choose, fries/bitterballen/frikandel special, everything tastes amazing🌟 To top it all off, compared to the Golden Seagull :) the ice cream machine also works very reliably 🍦 Clearly recommended, very friendly staff, the food is even brought to your table. The restroom is very clean and free! A chip shop like the ones we'd been looking for in vain the days before!

Excellent fries, there is room to eat your order indoors. Great if you visit in the colder months or less nice weather. For frikandel lovers with a big appetite, you can order an XXL variant. Peanut sauce could be a little less bland, but that is a matter of taste and preference. Extensive menu, so something for everyone.

Read many good reviews and put it to the test. Fast friendly service and very tasty fries (with vegan mayo) I even ordered a vegan croquette👍🏻. And it remains a cafeteria, so the atmosphere is not five stars, but that is not necessary at all. You can sit comfortably there and that is already a plus. So if you go for fries…. The seagull.

When we go to the sea from the Ruhr area, a visit to Vlaams Friethuis is a must for us. The service is always nice and friendly, the frikandel and fries are super delicious. Small parking space in front of the door.

I was here today based on good recommendations. I wasn't disappointed! Great service and very tasty food. The fries are awesome! The best I've ever eaten. There was also the special burger, which was also very tasty. Good and fresh meat. Together with a can of Fanta it cost EUR 14.60, which you could easily pay by card.

Tipped off by Molencaten employee. Walked over after checking Google. It is actually a small stall, with an extension with heating in winter. Small, but well served, mainly by young people. Delicious food and a warm seat. Potato fries are highly recommended.

Nice little tent. And you won't regret the fries, not too hard, not too soft. portions are manageable. Staff is very friendly just like the owner. Just go for dinner or takeaway. I recently saw that you can also order online in advance. Enjoy your meal

I was actually a bit disappointed. I had a chicken sandwich with majo and peanut fries. The fries are tasty, but the kipkorn had a sweet taste. As if it had been fried in the fat of the oliebollen. The peanut sauce was that of the Chinese. Not such a success for me.
