The grilled sandwich and croissant were baked far too long and were dark brown and black! There wasn't much filling between the grilled sandwich. The presentation wasn't very nice, just a container with pre-made dip. We had to wait a long time even though there were only two other customers in the restaurant. The staff walked around in wrinkled T-shirts, which gave a unkempt impression. They were friendly, though. After forgetting to give us cutlery, she quickly got it for us, but she didn't offer an apology. It's just a shame. It definitely means I won't be returning!

Ordered a cone explicitly without cream, as I am vegan. Received it with the cream and also had to pay for the cream (6€ instead of 4€).

You'll need to know where to park, but once you do, you'll find a nice spot for coffee or lunch. The bread is delicious. It's pricey, though. There are also few cookies and treats under 3 euros.

The almond croissant and apple bun (photo) are delicious, but the chocolate one isn't so good, and the snail bun isn't so good. The bread is pretty good.

Usually, before I eat anything, I take a photo first, you know, as a souvenir and for my Google reviews 😉 But this time I didn't even have time to reach for my phone! Everything looked so appetizing that it disappeared from the plate in no time 😅 Fresh, tasty, and creative. Plus, the decor is stylish, yet full of soul and flavor, just like the food they serve. Definitely a place you want to come back to!

Dirty place: clutter on tables, chairs, and the floor. Also, bizarre prices. A so-called cheese-ragout roll is the size of a currant bun and half air: only air under the puff pastry. It's suitable for your hollow tooth. And all that for €4.35. Tea comes in a single-walled glass without a handle. Not practical. Lukewarm coffee from a small bowl, also without a handle, not even a saucer. Well, what else can I say... great for baby boomers and yuppies. And for women of a certain ethnic background. They can drink tea to their heart's content there, out of sight of men.

On a very sad day, I had coffee and bought bread at this place. A bright spot.

We took out three different cakes, and they were completely different from the delicious tart dough we have had before.The crust was not a buttery tart, but a light one, very dry and not moist. 5.25 euros is too expensive for this quality. We will never buy cakes from this place again.we were very disappointed.

Vlaamsch Broodhuys offers so much more than bread. Crossaint was the best we've had in Holland. The cosy interior offers diners a warm place to brunch their your day, or sit out on the barge terrace with champagne by the glass. Menus in English and Dutch. If you can't decide get the mixed sandwich: 4 slices witha range of toppings. Whether it be for take away or eat in this is a bakery worth seeking out.

Paris breakfast was delicious, mmm, fresh croissant. Beautiful terrace on the water. Highly recommended.

Today we enjoyed a delicious high tea. Savory and sweet, both were equally delicious. The weather was beautiful, and we sat on the terrace on a barge by the water. Friendly service.

The wine was listed on the menu for 6.50, but the receipt showed 7.22. It was a bit odd, and after we reported it, they couldn't fix it. As a business, you do have some cash on hand, don't you? Looking at what we used and the bill, it was very expensive. We won't be coming back.

The breakfast was very tasty and good quality , however there is still space to improve the quality of the service. Bord and napkins needs to be standard served by the meal. Also needed to ask for a knife for the jam and bread. Coffee served without sugar.

I had lunch here with my friends and we had a wonderful afternoon. The service was fast and friendly. The food was fresh, and the sandwiches were well-filled. The building is, of course, stunning. I'd been here years ago, but after this experience, I've found a new favorite in Schiedam. Fantastic!

Vlaamsch Broodhuys (Flemish Bread House), I don't understand the name... for a lot of money, you get machine-sliced, wafer-thin sandwiches with even less toppings!! No garnish or lettuce on the bread, and the toppings just flew over it. This was my second time here... but also my last. Also, the tables and chairs are awkward for multiple people, and the decor isn't inviting. The service was friendly.

An establishment open daily with an accessible barge for breakfast or a snack. Delicious, charming. One of the places to be in Schiedam.

Unfortunately, I had a bad experience today at Vlaamse Broodhuys. I ordered a small breakfast (toast with spread), but it took an hour before I received my breakfast, and even then, it came with jars of jam, chocolate chips, and peanut butter that had already been used a hundred times by others. It was disgusting! I politely asked the staff why everything was taking so long, but they rudely said, "There are only two of us and we didn't know it would be so busy!" Sorry, but we shouldn't have to suffer because the service is truly 0!

it was a delicious experience. staff was good, coffee was tasty and there are lots of options. you should visit and dine in with that hospitality. And the place was so cozy.

The food is delicious, I took a banana cake home with me, it is very tasty. The service is good, I just didn't know that you have to pay only by card, it was a little inconvenient, because I wanted cash, but it's okay, you just need to emphasize it 🙏🏻 What an incredible terrace on the ship. Best pastry we had in the Netherlands. Worth the price for sure - especially the apple pastry. The coffee is great too. Outside seating on the boat is just amazing.

When I saw the food, it was 2 very dry slices that you could break your teeth on.

Service is slow and not very customer friendly. After ordering came after 10 minutes a cappuccino and a bland sausage roll total 8.50 € then you expect a lot. After asking for sugar and after walking past twice I think I forgot but got it myself. I will not come here again.

After 15 minutes after ordering the waitress came to tell us that the yoghurt was gone. After that the other order came immediately including a croissant with butter and jam. Waitress walked away there was no butter with the jam, asked her where the butter was, answer it is gone. But on Sunday at 9 o'clock butter and yoghurt gone employee should know and make it known in advance or when serving. Also totally indifferent react that we do not want to pay for the butter. Place is beautiful.

Super friendly service everything looks very neat and tidy. Together with my husband Enjoyed a cup of tea and a Cappuccino with a croissant and a small cake it was really delicious. The best was the sausage roll that really brought back memories from the past. When I was young my grandmother gave me a sausage roll at the bakery in the Bilderdijkstraat. After the bakery closed I actually never ate that same sausage roll again until today.

This is a super nice shop/bakery! Very friendly staff! Drinks and food are excellent! Highly recommended🥰

This afternoon we sat on the terrace with friends. Dave, who worked there, was really sweet and helpful! He really did his best and had a very nice energy. Made our afternoon a little more fun. Top service!

Recently I asked for some nutritious bread here. It was certainly nutritious, I haven't been hungry for a long time. That's why I bought a loaf of bread today. Grand mere multigrain. It has a lot of weight, so assume it will fill up a lot. 2x cakes were delicious, service was smooth and very professional. I also like people watching. The tourists next to me were very special. This is because I had to laugh to myself because the lady at the table next to me doesn't like bread. My 010 humor then makes me wonder why you go to a bread house at all. The staff helped her wonderfully with a nutritious, colorful salad. It was nice to see her enjoying her meal. So from now on I will make bread, beer and salad bar from it. There were also croissants (previous review) and chocolate rolls. Next time I'll try the beer. Can recommend it to everyone.

Thought I'd give this barroom a try. Spent almost 20 euros on two coffees and two cakes. When we wanted to eat them outside on the empty terrace, we were told that "take away" products should not be consumed on the terrace because the "difference in price with the menu was too great". Ridiculous, we won't be coming back here again.

I have to give 5 Stars for this beautiful bakery! Great handmade products, very nice presented and smart and kind staff. And the location is 200% the best I have ever seen for a bakery!! We stayed there for breakfast and it was great. If I will be again in Schiedam, that's the place to be again!

Had lunch here today. We had delicious sourdough bread with avocado, feta and roasted nuts. And a ginger tea. We also bought scones with jam and clotted cream. It was more than good.

Beautiful cafe and friendly staff. The kids enjoyed their croissants and hot chocolate. I loved the feta cheese salad and cappuccino. The sourdough bread tasted great too. The chocolate chip cookie was alright. The whole vibe of the place was amazing and the decor was on point. The cafe overlooks the canal. Real cookies (1 month old) were hanging on the ceiling - such a cute Christmas vibe.

Price-quality ratio is poor. You can put a nice story in the menu, but a ham cheese sandwich for 12.95 is too much of a good thing. Taste was good but the bun was too small.

Big. Good seats. We had an avocado sandwich and a pastrami sandwich. The latter was served as a sandwich. Very sparsely invested. With a bowl of sauce from a bottle. Disappointing whole. The avocado sandwich was good.

Geweldige plek om te lunchen. Heerlijk brood en royaal belegd. Goede cappuccino, alleen de latte macchiato is niet zoals het hoort: laagje melk, laagje koffie, laagje melkschuim, en dus niet schuim op koffie met melk.

We spontaneously decided to have our breakfast there. It was a great decision. The weather was nice and we were able to eat outside on the boat. The order took a while, which unfortunately cannot be seen as a positive. Especially since there was very little going on. The food itself was really tasty and I can only recommend it. If you're there, stop by. I can't understand the reviews that some people write that when they buy a to-go coffee and then sit down in front of the restaurant. To Go means taking something with you and not buying it cheaply and still using the restaurant.

Delicious bread, excellent service

I’m very happy with mainly the service, the bread and the cakes, pastries. There’s a ton of options to eat and take home. Haven’t tried the food (yet). The place is nice and spacious. In the good weather the seating outside is nice. Toilets are clean. The coffee is the only negative. The taste is subpar at best… The beans are not good, it’s overpriced, and the extra charge for alternative “milk” is bad practice. A box of vegan barista-milk costs the same as barista cow-milk nowadays.

We had breakfast in a beautiful environment next to the canal. His croissant was fresh. But you should especially try the bread types.

You have to dig deep into your pockets (€€€), but I still have to enjoy all the goodies here every now and then. All very tasty, one of my favorite places.

I had the egg-truffle salad sandwich, which they probably wanted to get into the Guinness Book of Records with, having the thinnest sandwiches ever sold for that price! I have eaten this dish before in Rotterdam and there they had cut the whole wheat spelled bread to the normal thickness, a world of difference. The egg salad was tasty. But you're not supposed to be eating some kind of toast for €12.95, right?

Another beautiful undiscovered spot in Schiedam

Just bought 40 euros worth of bread. Also had a coffee and a sandwich to go. There was plenty of space and a long reading table with magazines. Had to wait a long time for my sandwich so I sat there. Halfway through I asked if I could eat it here too, because I was quite relaxed. When half my sandwich was gone, I was asked to leave by a very unfriendly waitress because the price difference with what I had spent was too big compared to the rest of the place? Get a life, you are a bakery not a star restaurant. They didn't care that I had bought 40 euros worth of stuff. I immediately left white hot. Amsterdam practices here.

Had the koffiebroodje and earl grey tea. Both were very good, tea had a surprisingly nuanced flavour. The location is beautiful, especially if the weather is nice enough to sit outside, and the staff was friendly.

Vanochtend een flat white hier gedronken en mijn vrouw had een cola zero met een chocolate chip cookie. De flat white was zoals altijd fantastisch en ook aan de cola zero kon niets fout gaan. Het cookie was echter bikkelhard terwijl deze normaal lekker zacht met een krokant korstje is. Ook was de kleur donkerder dan normaal. Toen ik hier bij het afrekenen een opmerking over maakte, zei de medewerkster dat de cookies altijd zo waren en noemde ze me in feite een leugenaar. De juiste reactie zou zijn om de moeite te nemen even naar het restant te kijken, de overige cookies in de kliko te gooien en nieuwe te bakken. Naast de onaangename stoelen die je een houten kont bezorgen is dit voor mij een reden om hier niet weer te komen. Zeker omdat er een ruime keuze is in andere lunchrooms en bakkerijen.

Unfortunately I was asked to leave the store because I had ordered my coffee to go and wanted to sit down for a while. Apparently the rule is that you are not allowed to sit at a table with a to-go cup. I wasn't aware that these were the rules and I assumed I could sit for a while since I had paid for the coffee. Very unfortunate, especially since the place was almost empty. Nice place but poor service...

Cool, old building is now revamped as restaurant. We enjoyed different sandwiches and sweets for a high tea. It was difficult to get the attention of the staff to order. Plus, we got a lot of fish that the pregnant people could not eat.

One of the only places to get breakfast early in the morning in Schiedam, cozy seating, classic VB menu, and good coffee.

The breakfast here was wonderful. You have to try the different bread. They're amazing and the staff were friendly.

I always get my bread here! Christophe is certainly highly recommended. I can also be found here occasionally for a delicious lunch, delicious mackerel rillete or tuna melt. Also nice and friendly service.

Had a delicious lunch in Schiedam today. I think there are new staff working there, we were greeted kindly and were allowed to choose a seat ourselves. The food took a while, but everything is of course freshly prepared in front of you. You notice that they have invested enormously in this location. A completely different experience from a few months ago. Good job ladies!

Still only 2 stars, because every time I come here there is a long wait until you are helped and the food arrives. It seems like people are always understaffed here, or at least at busy times. You regularly see people come in but then leave because it takes too long. I often miss milk/sugar/cookies with coffee/tea and things are regularly forgotten. A shame, because the food and location are great.

The service today was very fast and the staff was very friendly. The location in the historic heart of Schiedam is also impressive. I would love to come back there again soon!

Gelukkig kan ik mij niet vinden in de andere recensies die ik voorbij zie komen. Wellicht nieuw personeel? Bij binnenkomst direct begroet door een leuke dame. Tafel uitkunnen kiezen en vlot bediend. Eten was erg lekker en prima voor de prijs die ik hiervoor moest neerleggen. Hier zal ik zeker vaker terug komen! Heerlijke middag gehad.

Very nice atmosphere, nice breakfast Artisan sandwiches. It is noticeable that the staff has no idea about coffee. Flat white was very poorly made.

Nice location and organic products. We have been coming here on weekends for a long time, but unfortunately in recent months customer service has dropped sharply. The staff has a good time together, but they certainly don't radiate this to the customers. There is also no background music anymore and the tables are full of waste. Despite it being quiet, the waiting time for a small dish (scones) is at least 40 minutes and for one sandwich 1 hour, this is unbelievable and unfortunately the staff does not think along with solutions. The sandwich dishes have been reduced in size, previously you got 2 sourdough sandwich slices and now there are only 2 half sourdough sandwich slices (so actually half a sandwich). What a shame because it really was a fantastic place. Compliments to the English speaking girl, very friendly and hospitable.

The new pontoon terrace is a real asset. What a lovely spot with a beautiful view. This is ideal, especially in the sun, right next to the water. The tuna salad (on bread) is really delicious, I always order it because it is so tasty. My tablemate had the 'surprise' bread and that also looked very tasty. Good coffee, tasty food. Only the service is a bit inexperienced and therefore sometimes seems a bit stressed, slow and somewhat clumsy... But the beautiful place more than makes up for that

For about a year now, saying "hello" when you come in is no longer an option. The young staff does not look up or around. The speed is also decreasing day by day and unfortunately some are not open to feedback. I have already run away several times because it took far too long before I was helped and I have also seen other people running away before. I certainly understand understaffing, but customer friendliness should not suffer from that. Too bad because the food, fresh bread and coffee are delicious!

We zaten buiten en wordt daar niet echt naar gekeken, alleen als je 1 bestelling wilt doorgeven en het bedienen daarvan. Of verder alles naar wens is even langskomen, dan kan je nog lang fluiten! We hebben om een high tea gevraagd. Een bediener heeft netjes verteld om wat voor soort hartig broodbeleg het ging. Bij de 2e ronde werd er niets verteld en een vork viel op de grond er zou een nieuwe komen, niets meer van de bedienster gehoord/ teruggezien. Op de menukaart stond nog iets heb ik netjes erom gevraagd of er nog een ronde was. Werd nee gezegd achteraf ging mijn zusje expliciet om vragen, werd er plots gezegd dat ze nog aan het bakken waren. Dit kan toch niet, wees duidelijk. Weet waar je over praat. Je bent daar om je beroep goed uit te oefenen en niet uit rond te hangen (ps het was niet eens zo druk ;).

Been several times and although we enjoy the Parisian Breakfast, we often have to wait a long time to be helped, and things are often forgotten. Too bad, otherwise a nice place.

I think this is a really nice location, but what I think is a shame is that the staff there has little regard for the customers, everything is forgotten, you even have to ask. Sugar was not there, apparently it had run out, I was given sugar water, okay, and the place was almost empty outside. There were some people on the terrace, but it wasn't very busy and then there was also a sausage roll for which I had to pay 5.95, which I don't think is right, but I saw afterwards that it's a pity about this place, I have also had other experiences here, hopefully things will change.

Every Sunday we try to get croissants here, but no matter what time we come, 9 times out of 10 they are gone. Today we decided to have breakfast on the terrace.....The employee smiled kindly, then went to a table after us and never came to us again. We just left, the employees are nice but have no idea what they are doing. Had breakfast on the corner, we'll leave Vlaamse Broodhuys for what it is for the time being!
