Literally a hidden gem in The Hague. We arrived around 19:15 and were welcomed with such genuine warmth by Gigi, the owner of the restaurant. She greeted us with a refreshing welcome drink, I forgot what it was exactly, but from now on there’s nothing I’d rather have on a warm summer day than that drink… Each course of our 4-course meal was served with such care and passion. Gigi let us decide the pace of the evening, ensuring we never felt rushed. In fact, it quickly stopped feeling like we were in a restaurant at all, it felt more like being welcomed into Gigi’s home. The atmosphere was so inviting and warm that we completely lost track of time. Every single dish was incredible. It was our first time trying Kenyan cuisine, and it blew us away, so full of flavor and soul you can taste the love that went into making everything. And to top it off: free unlimited refills on the main dish. The drinks were another highlight. Each cocktail and mocktail offered unique, rich flavors that were unlike anything we’d tried before. Beyond the food and drinks, it’s the little touches that show Gigi’s heart. Each serving plate was decorated with a handmade origami flower. On the table, we found a bowl filled with thoughtful conversation prompts to spark deeper conversations, perfect for dates or close friends. Around us were books, small treasures, and rich decor that made the space feel alive with personality and care, and gave plenty of interesting conversation topics. We stayed until around 23:00 and ended the night with a lovely chat with Gigi. I can honestly say we’ve never been treated with such warmth and authenticity in any restaurant before. Im not sure at what time Gigi closes the restaurant, but even at 23:00 she didn’t give us the impression that we were overstaying our welcome. If not for the food and drinks (though you should come for those), then come for the experience; the soul, the care, the love and the unforgettable hospitality that Gigi offers. She does everything by herself, from welcoming the guests, to cooking the food and waiting the tables. We will definitely come visit again Gigi, we are incredibly grateful for your passion and hospitality!

An experience I will always remember! We randomly knocked on the door and despite a "no walk-ins allowed" sign, the beautiful owner welcomed us inside. She just asked us to be "very patient" since she is in charge of the whole restaurant and she cooks everything from scratch! After realizing I am vegetarian, she kindly offered a Veg friendly adaptation of the menu. She made us feel very special from the very fist interaction and it only got better when the dishes were served. Every single course was an explosion of flavors, very very recommended. A slow, tasty and warm evening... with great music too! Thank you!

My mother and I came across the restaurant more or less spontaneously and wanted to move on because we would have had to make a reservation in advance. But Gigi the owner opened the door for us and then offered us to eat here anyway, saying it might take longer because we didn't call in advance, but I have to say the service was great and the food was great in terms of time and taste. The atmosphere and furnishings are also really nice. The music was at a pleasant volume and was appropriate. We were very positively surprised and very full afterwards. We would definitely recommend the restaurant.

Went there for Valentines Day and wow, what a great meal - but what particularly showed was the love of Kenyan food and hospitality - we had a great night. Highly recommend as someone who has lived in Kenya - it was a slice of home.

We really enjoyed our night! The food was good and the service was great. I had the vegetarian menu and it was very flavourful, I was happy that those dishes could shine on their own. It truly felt like an aunty is taking care of you. We will definitely visit again!

Don't get spooked by the price range, you will get your fill and then some! The restaurant is run by a very strong Kenyan lady who serves and cooks the food for 20+ people! She was nice and patient all the way, some of the best service I have had in Den Haag. This was my first sampling of East African food and I want more. Amazing stews both vegetarian and meat based. You sit down for a four course meal and the dishes get better and better. The main course can be refilled as much as you like! The interior is colorful and detailed, without ever overstimulating. Something that has happened to me often in restaurants. My Ugandan friend told me she felt she was back home. With the interior, music and authentic cooking. So do yourself and your friends a favor and get yourselves a table. You will not regret it. And tell the lady Sacha said hi :)

My partner and I had a really good time at 3Stones. You get 4 courses of food and complimentary tea. Food tasted really authentic (except the dessert, which I am not sure was Kenyan but tasted good too). You are made to feel at home with a warm welcome from the hostess. She also took care of our dietary restrictions. We would recommend it 100% and would go back soon!

The service was as you would expect from the Africans: Open, friendly, helpful all staff sincere in their manners. The layout is nice. A few tables on the ground floor and up a few steps a larger area with nicely spaced out tables. With enough heritage on the walls which together with the African music makes for a lovely vibe. The food was plentiful and for a nice price. Starters of a samosa filled chicken and a filled vegetables with ample salad accompanied. Main was chicken in a (santen based) curry, same for the peas. The mild beef stew was very very tasty. Served with chapati and kardemom rice this all went down a treat. Enjoyed an African Mango beer during the meal and the tea bar was also well stocked to help with my banana ice cream as desert. All in all one to check out if you like authentic Kenyan cuisine. Enjoyed it and will be back :) To further add we couldn't eat everything from not mains and were offered a doggy bag. They also do take-out if you don't have the time to sit and dine. Very tasty and nourishing dishes! The owner took into account my boyfriend’s dietary restrictions and took it seriously, this was very much appreciated! At first it seemed like the portions weren’t that big but at the end we were so full! Definitely recommended if you’d like to try some new cuisine and learn more about a new culture.

This restaurant feels like you are eating at someone's home. Delicious soul food with many different dishes and very friendly service. I found it very relaxing that there is a fixed menu. No stress of choice! We even received seeds of Kenyan vegetables to sow in the garden. We will definitely come back!

Very hospitable reception. The atmosphere and decor immediately put you in a Kenyan mood. The menu consists of traditional Kenyan dishes, all of which are tasty, in our case accompanied by a Kenyan Tusker beer. The dishes are authentic and beautifully presented. The quality of service and friendliness are exceptional by Dutch standards. Price-quality ratio is excellent. All in all, highly recommended.

From the moment you step in, you are warmly welcomed with a friendly smile. You get an 8-course menu, which is recomposed every week. The dinner starts with a delicious amuse and gradually builds up to the main course, where the meat can even be ordered for free, so you never have to go home with a 'half-empty' stomach. The food is incredibly delicious, I have never experienced such an explosion of taste as this and everything is prepared freshly and from scratch. The dessert was also delicious. I will definitely come back another time and am already curious about what will be on the menu!

We visited mawematatu, I was very surprised by their concept, go visit their site 😉, it's the best African restaurant ever to visit. The restaurant does Kenyan and Zanzibarian food, I felt at home, not only because of the East African favors, but the ambiance was also East African. We have adored. Don't forget the delicious, gluten-free beer with several flavors.

Overall a great experience. The food was amazing and the portions looked small but were so big and generous we couldn’t even finish it even if it was so good!
