Simple yet creative food in a spectacularly beautiful surrounding, with one of Groningens modt mesmerizing views on the terrace directly opposite to the hanging kitchens and the idyllic canal and the Vrouwenbrug.

The café's special atmosphere makes guests feel at home immediately upon arrival. Tastefully decorated, it offers a wonderful view of the canal with its flower-adorned bridge. A lovely terrace also invites guests to linger in good weather. There were four of us and we ordered four croquettes plus drinks. We didn't see a menu, and the waiter didn't offer one. Unfortunately, the waiter couldn't recommend a beer from the available menu. Our chosen drinks were served promptly, but one of the two Belgian beers we requested was out of stock. Unfortunately, the waiter couldn't recommend a suitable substitute, so one guest was left with only a "makeshift" solution. A real shame! We then waited about 30 minutes for our food. Far too long! But the excellent quality of the food, the stunning taste, and the lovingly presented plates quickly made us forget the wait. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the meal. Unfortunately, due to the wait time and the "beer problem," I can only give it four stars. But we would be happy to come back!

Waited almost an hour for our food, and it took a long time for anyone to come to our table at all. The food itself was ok, but not really worth the price. Could have made it better at home.

Slow service, double espresso and wine ordered. Got some espresso and half a glass of wine. It took more than fifteen minutes for the ordered item to finally arrive.

Service good. Sad food, just like that of the previous owner! If you order a healthy roll, you will get egg salad on it instead of egg! Most disgusting sandwich I've ever had. After 1 bite I was done with it. Taste of my money

If you are looking for a gluten-free lunch (sandwiches/pastries), you can go here. On the terrace outside you have a beautiful view. We had to wait a while, but it was definitely worth it.

We wanted to have lunch at Brasserie de Daame. It was Saturday but there was plenty of room. The people who were there were already provided. It took quite a while before we could place the order. We both ordered ginger tea, my husband a pancake and I a cup of soup. After waiting again for quite some time, the lukewarm soup arrived. In the meantime, the girl who had taken our order came to ask if we had already ordered… Just when we thought we had to wait (too) long, the pancake arrived. If I had waited until then before eating the soup, it would certainly have been cold. Too bad everyone. It looked so cozy. There were plenty of staff around. I counted 5 and there were probably 1 or 2 people in the kitchen. But the coordination was not going well.

When we enter, 2 ladies from the service, who hardly say hello to us, they are having a lot of fun and chatting away. This remained the case throughout our stay. The order was taken, but nothing of cordiality could be detected. The baguettes were delicious, chocolate milk could have been a little warmer. It is a beautiful place, with a view of the hanging kitchens. If the service had been a little friendlier to us, we would have been super satisfied. (well, the stairs could have used a cleaning too)

Been here before, knew in advance that the service was not always great and that things did go wrong. This time, however, it took the cake. Ordered a piri piri chicken sandwich (without tomato) and a friend of mine ordered a 'De dik damster' burger. They work with handhelds and it is not because they have such an extensive menu that the dishes cannot be found in the system, you would say. Waiting half an hour, waiting 45 minutes... it turned out something went wrong. The cook himself came to our table with the comment; what was your order? I mentioned that I had ordered the piri piri. The gentleman looked to see if he saw water burning... “is this half a baguette?” To which I replied: “no, an Italian bun.” After all, I have ordered this sandwich many times. I just added again that I wanted it without tomatoes. After an hour and a half, nothing at our table, no communication, nothing. I went inside to complain to the employee inside. The order was still in her system as a chicken pesto (the cook at the table also mentioned this earlier). It should be noted again that I ordered a piri piri chicken sandwich, again without tomato. She would go after it. About fifteen minutes later the food was finally delivered. In the meantime, one of the employees provided a free round of drinks, which was nice. Then I got my piri piri chicken sandwich, but you guessed it: the tomato was on it in full glory. I did not mention this at checkout and did not think it was the worst part of the day. By the way, the employee resolved the matter nicely by taking both sandwiches off the bill and giving us a 25% discount on top of that. This was nicely resolved, I don't want to say anything about that. Something can go wrong anywhere, that's not the worst thing. But during that hour and a half you expect some communication / explanation of the situation. You really don't have to expect smooth service at Aan Tafel, this was previously known. But this was another fiasco of the highest order. Congratulations again for the handling. More such employees and perhaps extra help in the kitchen and things will start to run much better there!

The entrance was not very warm, but they had seen and heard us coming in. Still, we had to wait 20 minutes before we could order anything, then we had to wait 20 minutes for our cup of tea. When we ordered our sandwich, which we also had to wait half an hour for, the waitress wrote down the order on her private phone under notes🙃. One person in the kitchen and one in service is really not enough for good service. The pesto chicken baguette was topped with chicken fillet instead of the tasty pieces of chicken I expected. I really thought this was a major drawback. And the healthy sandwich lacked a boiled egg. All in all a disappointing lunch. A twelve hour soup with soup could not be ordered, that was only possible during the weekend.... but for another customer there was tomato soup....🤔🤔🤔🤔. At the end the table was cleared while a friend of mine was still eating. Let's go next time the pavilion. You may pay a little more, but you will get good, smooth service and good food

Very bad. Dirty tables. The food was undercooked. For the price you get very little food. The price-quality ratio here is not right at all. If you say something about it, it is not the brasserie's fault but the customer's fault. You then pay the full price. We will never come here again.

Intriguingly dramatically bad. Unimaginative piece of brown baguette, 4 tiny slices of goat cheese on top, a little arugula placed next to it. Only the honey, which the chef(?) was generous with. Furthermore, it was an empty white plate, nothing unmade, not even a slice of tomato with a lettuce leaf. The steak sandwich had a reasonable taste but was not warm enough. And we waited an hour for all this. Second drinks order did not come. There were several people with complaints when we were there. pay 30.50 euros. The place on the terrace is nice to sit, but we will never come here again.

Fijn, netjes restaurant op een mooie plek naast de gracht met uitzicht op de vrouwenbrug en hangkeukens. Ze hebben veel soorten fuzetea en een uitgebreide lunchkaart. Voor volwassenen is er ook veel keuze uit alcoholische dranken waaronder bier. Wel een nadeel is dat rond 15:00 de keuken dicht is waardoor ik 2 keer geen tosti of uitsmijter kon eten. Als je in Appingedam komt raad ik dit restaurant aan.

The restaurant is beautifully located at the Hanging Kitchens of Appingedam attraction. We sat there in the best weather, sipped delicious cocktails and ate a fantastic baguette. We were able to admire these attractions in peace and quiet. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We liked it very much.

Strange that some reviews describe nice and friendly staff: we encountered disinterested - even rude - staff here! What a shame that such an operation simply milks tourism in such a beautiful place; They don't care if you come in or not, they don't care one bit. You can be happy when you ask something that you still get an answer, even though they show that you are only perceived as difficult. Admittedly, the coffee and cake were fine. But because of the inhospitable bluntness, I won't come back here again.

On this sunny day I thought I would have lunch with my children. Then I thought a high tea would be great. All small snacks and a nice cup of tea for mom. Called in the morning and after consultation with the kitchen, a high tea could be prepared. (otherwise we would just come for lunch) but really great. I enjoyed it, and so did the kids!! We will definitely do this more often.

We had made a reservation for a High Tea on May 11 for our 35th wedding anniversary. After waiting 45 minutes on the terrace, it turned out that it was scheduled for a week later. The owner called on Monday with an excuse that this should not have happened. We have been invited to attend the High Tea at their expense. Unfortunately, the appointment on Friday is no longer on our wedding day. But definitely a great service. To be continued May 17 agreed for High Tea. We received a great welcome, a beautifully set table. We had a delicious meal, everything was super tasty and excellent service. Because our appointment on our wedding day had gone wrong, we were offered this High Tea by the owner who recently took over the restaurant and we were also surprised with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. We will definitely go here again.

Well, what can you say about this... The microwave/steamer and wholesaler is the chef here, food comes from the wholesaler's packaging and the flavors do not match, just heat it up from the packaging and it appears freshly prepared from your own kitchen under the guise. your plate. On the terrace you hear the microwave beeping continuously. Owner has another dubious cafe where drinks are served to minors. Very sensible that this owner should stop having clearly no background or experience in the catering industry.

Beautiful location on the water. Very friendly service. Unfortunately, no plant-based options whatsoever. Everything contained meat, fish, cheese or eggs. So just had a few drinks and left quickly.

The lady who helped us was not aware of the pastries that were available. They smeared the coffee and got a new one. We had to ask if the tea box could be returned so that we had room on the table. It is very expensive and the quality of the pastry was terrible, just like the taste. All in all, definitely not recommended to go here.

Lukewarm beer from the tap, Mexican burger that has little Mexican flavor and unsolicited with a diamond-shaped brown baked bun, not very convenient with a round hamburger...I think a lot of it comes from the microwave as it kept beeping while we were sitting on the terrace. Our glasses were empty when the sandwiches were served, but unfortunately the service quickly left before we could order new ones, a missed opportunity. When we pointed this out at checkout (where we had to wait a long time for someone to come), the response was a shrug...a one-off visit for us.

During a walk, my son and I stopped here for coffee and cake. That turned out to be a perfect decision. I drink cortado everywhere in Europe. And I can say from the bottom of my heart that the cortado (cortados, I couldn't stop) was the best I've ever had. Fantastic. The walnut caramel cake was delicious and paired perfectly. In short, if you think "why should I go to Appingedam?", then the coffee at De Daame gives you a decisive reason.

Today I had a delicious #gluten-free lunch at the table at De DAAme! Here in the area it is sometimes very difficult to have a carefree lunch, but here it is certainly possible! Nice extensive menu, delicious choice of coffees and other drinks and let's not forget the beautiful view of the hanging kitchens😍! Highly recommended! We come here often!

Had lunch here recently, staff were friendly and helpful. However, it all took a very long time. After a long wait, our lunch was finally served, but it was delivered to the wrong table. When they found out, it was resolved, but one of the guests at the other table had started eating from our order. This had to be made again, which made it take even longer. The staff wanted to resolve this nicely by offering a free drink, the intention was good, but we had become so hungry due to the long wait that we no longer felt like it.

An excellent restaurant with a terrace on the water, which is very pleasant on a warm summer day. The young lady who took our order spoke to us in a friendly and patient manner. The owner also took the time for a chat while our bouncer was being prepared. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys an informal dining experience and the customer's well-being is at the top of their priority list.

Coffee, cake and service all top. But charging 1.50 for a glass of water is really not okay in my opinion. Not with two pieces of cake and two coffees.

Appingedam has it, not just the historic hanging kitchens, no, also a real kitchen opposite, namely that of Aan Tafel Bij De Daame, including a terrace on the Damsterdiep. ('Daame' is a play on words: in the Groningen language Appingedam is called 'Daam'. So you learned something new for free.) I like to, and often, come to the Daame for coffee (try the 'cortado' es) , or something else, sometimes to meet up with friends and eat the 'Fat Damster'; the service is a sworn team of passionately working young women, who spoil the guests with their smiles. An oasis and pearl at the same time, which Daam can be proud and happy with.

What a lovely terrace and they also have nice coffee and tasty pastries. So an ideal spot in Appingedam.

Had a delicious vegetarian sandwich there yesterday. Officially it was half a baguette, but I thought that was too big, and was happy when the serving girl suggested taking a third of a sandwich! Together with a cappuccino...delicious. Definitely worth sitting outside on the terrace. You are looking at the "famous" hanging kitchens! 😉

Admittedly, I was on the phone during the first part of my visit, but to then not ask me what I would like to eat is strange, to say the least. It wasn't particularly busy inside and they could have just said "I'll be right with you, ma'am." Too bad, don't come there anymore. The comment afterwards was that I didn't see how busy they were. That's probably true, but I also want to be one of those guests who keep them busy. I was in no hurry and with the right communication I would have sat quietly. Maybe with a drink?

Beautiful location with pleasant people serving. Friendly and helpful. The map offers enough space to make a choice. And also affordable, which is not unimportant. Service runs quite a few miles up and down stairs. You can also sit inside. In our case, it's lovely outside. The empty plate illustrates that it was a tasty pancake😊

The terrace on the water is nice, even on a rather cold Sunday morning. We were early, so it took a while for the (somewhat small) bacon pancakes to arrive, but they were tasty and crispy. But why smoking was allowed on the terrace is a mystery. Because yes, that's where the first cigarettes were lit. It's unhealthy, it stinks and it's gross for other visitors who come to eat. That is no longer possible in this day and age of a smoke-free generation, especially if you come here with children...

Outside with a great, historical view, we enjoyed delicious hot drinks and of course, as is common in the Netherlands, good Pannenkoeken with cheese and apple. Friendly service and very tasty, well-prepared food. A nice cozy place in Appingedam!

Prime location with a beautiful view of the hanging kitchens, and a fairly simple restaurant menu (toasted sandwiches, hamburgers, pancakes, etc.), but very tasty. It started with the special hot chocolate (I had one with after eight flavor) and special coffees (latte with salted caramel), really great. Then ordered the burgers. Huge whoppers, really nicely baked and generously garnished. With the tastiest fries I've had in a long time: just crispy enough, not too dry, not too greasy. And add real mayonnaise... Delicious. And all for a very reasonable price. Very friendly service, who occasionally makes a mistake, so keep an eye on whether what you get is correct. But that didn't spoil the fun, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Unfortunately we don't live nearby, otherwise we would come here very often!!! Recommended!

I tried to have lunch today, unfortunately the menu was given to me quickly, but I didn't see anyone after that. I waited 20 minutes, then paid for a Coke. There were 2 behind the bar, no one came. When paying, I indicated that I waited in vain for service, but was not responded to, except with the comment, "see you next time". Special....

Delicious food, but unfortunately a meat salad with a vegetarian menu. Bit stupid...
