My sister and I picked up food from them, and the next day we were both seriously ill. We even went to the hospital. It was probably food poisoning. The food is terrible, they're unhygienic, and you pay way too much for shit. The so-called boss has been stringing us along for a week. He promised to get our money back, but so far we haven't received anything. Don't eat here unless you want to get sick.

I had the moin moin and some plantains. Great choice. The pepper soup was also a hit. Atmosphere was okay. It was a Saturday so they had old school music playing. Also, make sure you factor in it takes sometime to get your food.

This Nigeria/African restaurant has been my favourite eating spot whenever I am in Amsterdam. The service and food is delicious 😋. I will always recommend it whenever you are in Amsterdam or around.

Very nice rice dices and lovely service. We were there with two small kids, they had a blast. They loved the spareribs, yam and the music.

I have only ever ordered jollof rice and chicken here and it has never disappointed. The food is really tasty and the portion of rice is quite big. The average wait time is typically 15-30mins for the food. Additionally, the music there is really loud, so everyone is screaming to talk. Furthermore, I think the restaurant staff can do a better job at catering for customers who are on their own. They give priority to pairs or groups of people in terms of sitting, ordering and just checking if everything is okay. Finally, there are always (older) men who don’t respect the peace of a lady on her own, and it’s always annoying if you just want to enjoy your meal in peace.

I enjoyed the fried yam with tilapia. Great service. The ladies need to learn how to smile more. Both ladies didn't seem happy to serve. The gentleman has always been nice during all my visits there.

My friends and I were hoping to enjoy some delicious West African cuisine, and we certainly did. The atmosphere was delightful, and we felt very welcomed. It was incredibly kind of the waiter to offer us a student discount. I will be sure to share my experience and plan to return soon.

firstly, the food was very lovely and also very filling. You can tell that it is fresh because they took a while to prepare food. I ordered “fried rice” with fish and as you can see in the photo of the menu, there is a side of plantain. unfortunately, you have to pay extra for the planting. Their waitress said that it was on the menu for presentation purposes however this is fourth advertisement. Just an advice, maybe Update the price to compensate for the sides of plantain or taking new photos without the plantain but then again, I understand the presentation is not gonna look the greatest.

My dad and I were in Amsterdam for work and decided to order lunch from African Kitchen. The food was delicious, fresh, and very well prepared. Latifa was warm, polite, and incredibly friendly. Highly recommend!

Good food, nice place but a bit too expensive. The same plate you can have it for max 10€.. we paid for 2 plates and 3 drinks 81€. Compare to other places where you can have all for 50. The location is great but kinda far .

Super long waiting time for a take away order

The food was incredibly delicious and cheap. The staff very professional. The whole ambience and the interior design were very well though, including the TVs. The only reason why I am putting 3 stars it’s because the music was not loud enough.

I had to wait 2 hours! I ordered at 5pm, I wanted it to arrive at 7, and then I get an email at 7 that it will be delivered in 2 hours. Terrible! Then I get an attitude at the phone, saying “yeah yeah it’s on its way” don’t order from here if you don’t want your food at a normal time. My friend warned me about it and I should’ve listened.

Ordered food yesterday 08 June 2025. Waited at least 3 hours for the food. A bit difficult, but didn't mind that much. The worst thing was the food Sloppy packaging, the goat meat and beef were very dry and hard. Not edible. The calf rib was even worse, not juicy, it looks like they let the meat dry in the sun. The prices don't lie. You pay a huge amount for food that you can't eat, only the rice was tasty. I never say never I won't go there again. The staff could also be a bit friendlier. The restaurant also looked like it hadn't been cleaned. The music made the wait a bit more pleasant.

I had one of the best fufus I’ve had in a long time — maybe even the best! As someone who grew up eating fufu, I was genuinely amazed by the quality and taste. The texture was spot on, and the sauce — wow! Both the chicken and beef were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I brought my girlfriend along, and it was her first time trying African food. I was a bit nervous about her first impression, but she absolutely loved it! I was honestly surprised (again) by how good everything was. On top of that, the service was fantastic. We were in a rush and ordered ahead, and everything was ready exactly on time. The reception was warm and welcoming. Huge compliments to the kitchen and the staff — keep up the great work! I’ll definitely be coming back regularly.

Sorry but what is this? Very pricey for a meager plate half filled with jollof and tastes like nothing. No salt or pepper on the table. No nice presentation of the plate, no vegetables or anything. We asked for fish with the jollof, but after 45 minutes we received a plate with 3 small tough pieces of beef. I said we had ordered fish.. “oh fish is gone” Also without atmosphere. Decorate the restaurant with beautiful paintings from Africa, play nice African music, The girls at the counter were friendly. That was the only positive.

I have made reservations since April 7. I'm not from the area and I thought I would come here for dinner with my kids and mother on April 27. You see the promotion everywhere. Final score: our order placed since 4:15 PM. At 4:30 PM there was still no drink, so I had to get up to ask for it myself. 5:10 PM asked where our order was and how long it would take because the children were hungry. Then you are told sorry, I forgot to pass the order on to the kitchen and it still has to be made. I paid for the drinks and left. 0 service and a waste of time to drive 1 hour thinking we are going to support our fellow Africans. Never this again. Work on your service and behavior.

I definitely do not recommend!!! We are very disappointed. We drove 50 kilometers especially for this restaurant in vain! The previous time the food was sour, but I did not comment on it because I understand that it can happen. Today we placed an order and after about 2 hours of waiting we still did not get the food. The young slim waitress with short hair always looks like this job is a punishment for her! She does not want to serve customers and cleaning the table is very difficult for her. The place is not pleasant, the people sitting next to us were very irritated by this service. The lack of any organization and service. The prices are expensive and the restaurant is not very clean. The funniest thing is the message written on the door not to stay in the restaurant longer than 2 hours. When during this time the food was not even delivered! the big boss should be ashamed of his employees and disrespect for the customer. we will definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!

Good atmosphere, nice service, very good food. Relatively expensive, but quality comes at a cost. Only the reservations thing still needs to be revised. Other guests had to make way for our reserved table.

Average food and non-existent service. They gave me a dish that tasted like soap, yes, soap... and when I asked them to exchange it for another one, they charged me for both. A shame of a place.

I love coming to this place but I do not love being taken for a fool and being ripped off. I ordered from the fufu dish menu Afang soup which clearly states its 21 Euros on the menu. When I went to collect the dish I was charged 28Euros. When I asked why they said additional charge for the fufu which I knew was bullshit because its a fufu dish and states 21euros on the menu. I've recommended this place to so many people and come back many times but after this disrespect I won't be eating there again. The prices are high as they are without being ripped off when you get there.

Listed closing time is 12am I arrived at 11pm and they were ready to close up. After a long winded back and forth about what the actual closing time was they unlocked the door and allowed me to dine in. What followed was an annoying and underwhelming experience. They refused to serve the food I ordered, the waitresses asked me about 4 times about my order and if I would prefer something else then they refused to prepare the swallow to go with the soup I had to beg to order, because they had already started cleaning up Then once they actually served the soup the waitress said oh we can make gari for you. Well it’s too late now dear you’ve already done everything to discourage me from ordering what I came to order. after all of the back and forth the soup was just ok, nothing special They offered me some food on the house for the shambles service I received and initially I declined then I changed my mind and they said oh sorry the food is for the kitchen staff after all so you can’t have it. Why offer in the first place? The service was terrible the soup was average and I won’t be returning or recommending

Food is good, service has always been decent but pity that some of them can't own up to their mistake and would rather blame and argue with the customer. A lot to learn in terms of customer service. Disappointing.

There is no need for a reservation hence they don’t respect it and once you are there you don’t have any place to sit and have to wait for hours

First time visiting the Netherlands, we were craving African cuisine, as this is the ONLY one in the whole of Amsterdam we decided to give it a try. Ordered fried rice and chicken with plantain…instead of fried, the rice was rather watery and boiled, tasteless and the chicken was off Ordered jollof rice with fish and plantain…rice was manageable, 4.4 over 10, not all the plantain was fried, back and front, the fish was awful! Imagine paying about 20€ for this dish, we were given the down head of fish, horrible. Ordered beef suya, not sure what kind of beef they use, but it was hard and with no taste. To crown it all, the food was cold! I mean who delivers food in Amsterdam winter weather in some plastic bag? Quantity was okay, hence the 1 star rating. No napkins or cutlery offered, I called to complain, was told “I had to pay for it” but no where on the website did I find this option. Well we ate with our hands as we were in a hotel. 80€ went to the bin, painful in this hard economy. NEVER ORDERING FROM YOU AGAIN!! You need to do better, and provide tasteful meals please, this is shame on the African cuisine.

One of my best and favourite african restaurant. The foods r sumptuous and worth every dime. The taste of the suya is outta the world, don't forget to try it, you will be awed. We enjoyed every foods we ordered. Of course, the staffs r gracious, liberal. I will be visiting again and again.. On a side note: they r very busy on the weekends thus I will strongly recommend making a reservation before visiting during weekends.

The food was delicious I thought they were complete dishes but once I went to pay I realized that they charged the rice separately for each portion at €10 I think it is a lot for a rice I have visited other types of better category restaurants and I have never paid so expensive a rice and if it takes more than 30 minutes for the food to arrive, the rest is fine

Honesty above all! One thing is to say to a client, “Sorry, Sir, we are unable to honor your reservation. You were scheduled for 7 PM, but some clients have overstayed. Please wait for X amount of time.” (If that works for the client, they’ll wait; if not, they won’t.) But it’s a whole different thing to hear, “Sir, you called to cancel your reservation.” Who cancels a reservation and then drives 30 minutes to get there? I am one of those who have been loyal customers since Gein. If you can’t manage your schedules, hire competent people to do it. Telling a customer they called to cancel their reservation is the worst excuse. Here’s what actually happens: For as long as I can remember, this is the first time I’ve been asked to book online, and the confirmation was flagged – this never happened before. When your business grows, avoid disrespecting your clients. Be honest with your customers and with yourselves. I wish you all the best moving forward.

A very good menu of African dishes The taste is top notch. The only downside might be, not available seating area during busy times. It’s wise to call, to ensure availability of places to sit. Online service is also available for you to order any dish of your choice and it can be delivered.

Food can be too salty and we think it is too pricey for the dishes. For a small fish talapia with simply fried banana and Yam, some stray peppers and onion salad with a little sauce and a small bowl of extra sauce you pay around 30.00 euros. Which is quite pricey. MIND YU WAS NOT BUSY AT ALL...Music can be too loud so you can't even have a normal conversation.Unfortunately the tables are also very small and the service will have to know if an order is taken that it will not fit and therefore you have to make preparations. (too young service who clearly have no insight whatsoever). Order your ugusie, count a small bowl of meat, you will only get ugusie and you will need a pounder Order yam separately and pay for this small ball, which is around 8.00. Ridiculously expensive *PRICES ARE TOO EXPENSIVE for the menu's portions ... Do not recommend this place! Purely because of the prices and the fact that the food can be salty, the service makes you wait while it is quiet

The food is tasty, music good. Only too few staff in the service, so we had to wait 2 hours for our food. We also had to ask for something to drink. A real shame and certainly an area for improvement. The food was really great, so it alleviated the extreme hunger a bit🙈🤣 and despite the fact that it was so busy, the staff remained hospitable and friendly. So it's really worth it to have a delicious meal here.

Optamos por tres platos: Waakje con carne de res (una mezcla de frijoles y arroz con especias suaves y trozos de carne a la parrilla en una salsa picante] , arroz Jollof con pollo (un arroz especiado con cebolla y tomate) y una Tilapia entera con ñame y plátano) . Todos los platos eran muy sabrosos, no demasiado picante (algo bueno). Especialmente el pescado era muy agradable, adelante y comerlo con los dedos, está bien aquí y mucha gente lo hace. Para una comida con un toque muy interesante podemos recomendar este restaurante

What a poor representation of African Culture. The staff seemed distracted, got my order wrong then argued that it was what I ordered. The stew was like raw tomatoe, the egusi was like a child's poop! It was a horrible experience! Other restaurant guests were given cold food. It was just horrible!

I‘m so disappointed, seeing good reviews here, I ordered so much food but unfortunately it had no taste at all.The Suya smelled and tasted raw and I had to trash them all. I have no words for the rice. What a waste

Was supposed to receive delivery, driver no where to be seen after going downstairs after doorbell rang. Later when I called to ask about where about I was told an elaborate story about how I was not home. Had to collect my food cold. Staff were quite rude with dealing with this.

Things changed , the food was much better when they were still in the old place. Even the staff changed and not friendly anymore. A place I used to eat very often or even took always away, turned around. For me a no go again.

Had the most amazing jollof rice with chicken and plantains. Got the spicy pineapple chutney was crazy. Finished all my food so quick feeling so happy, chutney was great.

Pepper soup and a side of plantains. The soup was just like how they make back in Nigeria! The plantains were sweet and soft like it should be but could have been a bit more golden brown. The atmosphere is comfortable and puts you in a great mood.

I love the new environment of African Kitchen. My friend and I went there just last week Saturday and he was excited about the place and the food. We pre-ordered, and before we got there, within a few minutes, our food was ready, and we enjoyed our meals. I ordered fried rice with tilapia while my friend ordered fried plantain with tilapia, which tasted so delicious. My friend ordered beans stew separately for his plantain, but it didn't taste like how he wanted. We later ordered suya beef, but it wasn't enough seasoned, which didn't let us enjoy the suya vibe.Overall, the place is nice and comfortable for a romantic date. I will visit there again if possible
