Babel in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

A pesar de las críticas negativas más antiguas, probamos este café en el 7o piso de la biblioteca por recomendación de nuestro guía de Bike Tour. Básicamente es una caminata, consigue tu comida y paga y luego siéntate en la mesa que quieras. Así que es un lugar fácil para entrar y salir si tienes poco tiempo. La mejor parte era la vista desde la zona de cubierta al aire libre de Amsterdam y el canal de abajo con vistas al museo de ciencia Nemo y barcos. Tengo té helado con menta fresca, naranja y rodajas de limón que era bastante bueno. También tomé un croissant con la mejor mermelada de cereza que he probado. Los sándwiches se ven deliciosos. Recomendaría este lugar y creo que las puntuaciones medias no están - hasta - actualizado para este restaurante!

Heerlijk gegeten voor een betaalbare prijs. Vriendelijk personeel en schoon restaurant. Ook een fijne plek om alleen te eten.

Terrible experience and do not recommend! We ordered burgers and have been given a call back device while waiting for the food. We then waited at the balcony area. The device didn't blink or ring at all the whole time, and suddenly the chef guy rushed in, speaked VERY RUDELY and loudly "Your burger is ready! Come get it!". He had his back to us and facing another table while shouting. We didn't know he was talking to us. 5mins later, he came in again and this time, shout at us Very Rudely again "YOUR FOOD IS READY! COME ON!!!"... This experience was horrible! Plus the burger was dry and now reading other comments said this guy lick his fingers while preparing food..OMG! I will NOT buy from this place ever again!

The two vegetarian Holtkamp croquettes (extra charge for the vegetarian version, so old-fashioned), were not served on a sandwich, but on a soggy bun. And really: nothing else at all, a completely bare plate, no salad or garnish...

We got some leftovers from ToGoodToGo, there were barely any staff around but when we found someone service was instant. Good food and a good price. Directions were a bit confusing but we made our way there.

A jerk of a chef, who wouldn't hesitate to serve you something disgusting, if you are lucky enough to order anything from him at all. Highly recommended for those who like to be fooled.

The atmosphere itself is lovely, and the view is beautiful. The coffee and pastries are nice. But I would highly discourage anyone and everyone from eating or drinking anything other than that. I spend 35 minutes waiting on one small bowl of fries. The whole time, I watched the chef lick his fingers and then not wash his hands. He then proceeded to grab fresh vegetables, meat, and other ingredients with said licked fingers. Not once in those 35 minutes did I see him wash his hands. He just kept licking his fingers like that was going to make them "clean." This is ridiculously disgusting.... I'm never eating here again. Plus, he was incredibly rude and yelled at the customers.

Never experienced anything like it before; you get yelled at when you ask where the napkins are. The food itself is mediocre. Too bad, this location deserves something better.

Some of the staff is rude, and acts like youre bothering them by ordering. The food was bad: Dry burger, and melanzane was the worst I have had. It's a pity

Una experiencia gastronómica muy inesperada dentro de la biblioteca principal de Amsterdam. Las ofrendas de alimentos eran frescas y únicas, con ofrendas calientes y frías. Personal amable. El comedor es tranquilo, limpio y bien organizado. Asientos en mesas, sofás / sillas cómodas. La terraza al aire libre con sus increíbles vistas es una ventaja adicional. Un lugar encantador para descansar y repostar durante un día ajetreado de gira.

Excellent place to enjoy a meal in the middle of a quiet environment. The food alternatives are varied and good. The incredible view. Recommended place.

Great place to visit while in Amsterdam ❤️

Didn't see any vegan options. Secondly, they advertise that all their meat/animal is halal. Halal is religious slaughter that's much more traumatic for the animals because the animals are conscious when their lives are ended. This kind of slaughter isn't normally allowed in the Netherlands, but an exception is made for religious reasons. I don't know why this place chooses to make all meat dishes with halal meat when the people who demand such meat are a minority in the Netherlands as well as among the customer group this library serves. I would have gotten a drink here to enjoy the view but I don't support a business that offers this kind of animal products. They should be serving the public and they clearly aren't. If you do eat meat but don't observe any religious rules, please avoid halal because of how bad it is with regards to animal welfare.

Pouca variedade, demasiado cara e sem grande apresentação. Algum staff é simpático. Vale a pena subir pela vista e para um café mas não para comer.

Fairly cozy restaurant with tasty dishes. However, I still don't know whether you can pay at both cash registers or whether one is for the food and the other for the coffee and tea bar. Barista and cashier were very friendly!

Had a really disappoing experience. We ordered 2 burgers with fries. My partner got a decent amount of Fries while i got a quarter of the amount. Asking for more fries just got me a rude reply. For the quite pricey meal i expect more, its quite pretentious concept doesn't fulfil the experience

I love coming here for the view and to read a nice book. Grab a coffee, eat a cake or drink a smoothie, or get a sandwich, just stay away from the burgers. The burgers are really really basic. I mean the chicken burger is litterally a thin disk of ingredients pressed together that do not even look like it has chicken in in it. The regular burger is also basic. Even the fries are basic. I long for the times when it used to be La Place and it had such a good buffet of nice quality delicious foods. All I can say is that it is time that they step it up a notch in the burger department.

Several experiences now. Today I had to wait ten minutes while two people wanted a cup of coffee in front of me. Three cups of coffee in ten minutes at the city bar.. It had to get busy 😱 Due to the long wait, my ordered sandwich was now cold. Really a no go

I was so excited to come to Babel because it's on the 7th floor of the OBA Oosterdok (the large public library, which is really gorgeous). The restaurant is beautiful; you can grab a coffee and work or read with natural light and plants all around. You can also sit outside and overlook the city. The food itself is just okay and a bit overpriced. It's worth it for the beautiful atmosphere but just grab a coffee or snack.

Very expensive for a community funded library food corner. Croissants are more than €10 for 2 little kids. Next door there is the AH, where 4 croissants are just about €1. It’s almost 10x more expensive!

Altijd leuk om hier te eten: lekker, gevarieerd en mooi uitzicht. Jammer dat de portie ramensoep nu kleiner is, maar het was wel lekker.

Estuvimos comiendo en la planta 7 de la Biblioteca. Las vistas de la ciudad bien, pero limitadas por la propia arquitectura del edificio. El restaurante bien climatizado y tranquilo. La pizza regulin. También pedimos dos Pita falafel regulin tb. Una hamburguesa de pollo bien, acompañada generosamente de patatas fritas. Un lugar para hacer una parada y reponer fuerzas.

Super friendly staff, perfect view and good food. It seems that the restaurant at the top of the library is still a hidden secret on plain sight. 🤪 A nice terrace and some cozy tables inside give good space to relax and enjoy coffee ☕️ or food 🍔 🍟. It is self service to fair prices. Very cool 😎 and definitely worth a recommendation.

Food was overpriced and not that tasty. Also, the coffee was pretty bad 🫠

Good point : the view Another good point ? Can’t find … Almost no choice if you go for diner (burger/pizza/salad) And Not really cheap : almost 16€ for 1 burger/ fries and 1 soda. But the food taste OK btw Recommandation : only if you’re around the corner and looking for something fast with view over the canal (not 360° btw)

Vroeger zat hier een 'La Place' restaurant. Tegenwoordig heeft de OBA een andere uitbater, 'Babel'. Ik moest 3 keer knipperen met mijn ogen toen ik de prijzen zag. Prijs/kwaliteit is erg mager. Er zijn echt veel betere plekken in de stad te vinden. Jammer dat juist een publieke instelling kiest voor zo'n matige uitbater met zulke hoge prijzen. Niet aanbevolen (behalve voor een snelle foto van de Amsterdamse skyline)

This is basically a food court with limited selection. The view is pretty limited also. Got a few photos, but nothing to speak of. I would not recommend.

I like the view and the decorations, but they used to have a bigger menu and now they have very limited options

Mooi uitzicht en op bepaalde plekken zit je goed. De banken zijn echter zeer glad waardoor je telkens wegglijd. We hadden 2 chocolademelk besteld. Kostte 4€ en de helft was schuim. Met recht belachelijke prijs voor wat je krijgt. Echt een afrader!

The building is beautiful modern architecture. The food court/restaurant replaced what used to be La Place. Nicely designed with a cosy feeling. Try to get a seat outside if the weather permits. Gorgeous view of Amsterdam. A cost effective way for a roof top view instead of going to the Skybar in Doubletree. A wide variety of food to choose from. Judging from other bad reviews, I played safe and choose the pizza. It's grilled in a stone grill kitchen adding some "burnt" flavor, which is a plus point. There are also halal options if you are concern about that. All in all, food was just normal taste. Staff wasn't friendly but the view compensate for that. If you're not keen to eat, go there for coffee & cakes and enjoy the view.

Good place to have dinner, and business meetings as it is very central and easy accessible for any means of transportation. Great view too. Food is moderate good staff very friendly and speaks several languages.

He visitado Babel en OBA varias veces mientras visitaba Amsterdam y para mí es un verdadero favorito. Un entorno tranquilo y encantador, excelentes opciones vegetarianas y veganas saludables. Nunca he tenido un problema con ninguno de los empleados y el área del restaurante siempre ha estado impecablemente limpia. Los precios son competitivos, recomendaría una visita a Babel y esta magnífica biblioteca.

Este restaurante es terrible! Mesas sucias, la comida es demasiado cara, especialmente porque hay estudiantes aprendiendo y necesitan almuerzo. Ejemplo: un capuchino pequeño es 3, 50. Esto no vale la pena, ya que hay autoservicio y los empleados no te dejan sentarte a menos que compres algo. No puedo creer cómo la biblioteca de Amsterdam aprueba esto. Me sentí incómodo sentado 10 cm al lado de otra persona. Están tratando de poner tantas tablas como sea posible, no irían allí de nuevo.

Het was fijn om daar te zitten. Maar de soto was verschrikkellijk. De mie was tot pap gekookt, de bouillon die daar op ging was koud en smakeloos. Wel veel groenten maar nier goed voorbewerkt. Zo zaten er diikke peulen in, mer haren . Bah wat vies. En dat voor 9 euro!

Prachtig uitzicht!! Mooi restaurant! Leuk plekkie voor eventueel een meeting met een lekkere holtkamp taartje erbij! Appeltaart zekers aan te raden met slagroom natuurlijk! Leuke afwisselende acties per maand.

Fijne plek om te werken, goede koffie en gezonde lunch opties. Vega pokebowl, zelf samengesteld. Voldoende stopcontacten.

Heerlijke koffie met Holtkamp gebak! Veel gezonde en vega mogelijkheden in het restaurant.

La vue est sympa. Par contre niveau qualité nourriture et service, ça laisse à désirer. Je rejoins les avis précédents.

Fantastic restaurant. Friendly and service minded chefs and fresh food at very reasonable prices. The sandwiches could perhaps be somewhat cheaper, considering the close proximity to central station.

Coffee was awful. Fresh juices were sour or bitter. Chai tea was horrible, weak and milky like the coffee. All food and drinks were expensive as well. The view was nice on the balcony but honestly you can go to the balcony on the 7th floor and enjoy it without purchasing overpriced awful drinks. La place that was here previously with the same concept was a lot better and it was just ok. Next time i want a coffee at oba i will try the new ground floor cafe.

Je zou denken dat het restaurant van de OBA, de publieke functie van een bibliotheek indachtig, ook mogelijkheden biedt voor mensen met een wat smallere beurs. Mooi niet! 4,50 voor een kleine kop soep en 5 euro voor een broodje kaas of een tosti, dat zijn prijzen die niet onderdoen voor het Leidseplein. En daar komen ze je tenminste nog aan tafel bedienen. Hier moet je, als in een bedrijfskantine, zelf met je dienblad heen en weer. Het is dat er in de onmiddellijke omgeving van de OBA weinig goede alternatieven zijn dus wie vaak in de bibliotheek is, kan bijna niet om Babel heen, maar eigenlijk is het belachelijk.
