Delicious bread, great price, friendly people. Hopefully they will stay for years to come

As a person who has a strong preference for warm meals, bread is definitely not at the top of my preference list. I only eat bread (on the go) if there is no other option.

The staff is very friendly and a good option for those on a budget, of course, but personally, I think it's a real shame that the old bakery is gone (bankrupt). I really don't like this second-rate bread from Van Maanen. Even toasted, it's not good. Now I have to drive to get fresh bread. This bakery is within walking distance for me.

Unprofessional behavior at Bakker van Maanen Katwijk I walked into Bakker van Maanen in Katwijk, looking for a sandwich and a cup of coffee. At that moment, I was wearing my wolf costume. Not for Carnival. Not as a joke. Just because it is comfortable, warm, and — let's be honest — I love it. And there is nothing strange about that. What is strange, though? That I was laughed at. By the staff. At first, I thought I was imagining it. A smile, a remark, a look. But no — it became increasingly clear. Whispering to each other. Chuckling. Someone said out loud: “What is that person wearing?” Excuse me? Let me make this clear: What someone wears is none of your business as a bakery employee. Especially not if that person simply enters politely, orders calmly, and wants to be treated with respect. I didn't ask for an opinion. I came for a croissant. This kind of behavior is unprofessional, inappropriate, and downright childish. Laughing at a customer because of their clothing isn't funny — it's embarrassing. For you. The service was substandard. I left the croissant untouched. If you can't be treated normally in a wolf costume, what does that say about the people behind the counter? I left the rest of my croissant lying on the sidewalk in front of the intensely overcooked baker Van Maanen. I am never coming back here.

A very loud, large room, as I noticed during my visit. Some of the tables were still greasy, and there was crumbs and pieces of cake underneath them. The coffee was okay, and so was the cake. What shocked me was seeing a female employee, dressed in her own clothes, take a slice of cheese from the refrigerator and eat it, while other employees carried the cake from the refrigerator to my plate. After that, I wouldn't eat there again. The service was generally okay, but unfortunately a bit chaotic and rather slow.
