Delicious coffee with good pastries

A lovely café right in the city center. Delicious food, whether for breakfast or coffee. Always worth a visit. A large and tasty selection of dishes and cakes is available.

We had lunch here because of its reputation and since we were staying in the area. The staff is unfriendly and unyielding. If you ask if something can be served on your sandwich, it is very difficult. The quality is mediocre; the rolls are pre-baked. The cheese is from the supermarket instead of the local cheesemonger. The roulade also consists of sheets of meat that you buy at the supermarket instead of a fresh, whole roulade. For the rest of our holiday, we went to get our bread and other treats from the bakery in Hollum (baker P.J. de Boer).

We had coffee and cake here with our children and grandchildren; excellent staff, good products, and good service.

Waitress who really enjoyed her work and also did her utmost to take a good photo! ;-) everything looks delicious and it is a cozy place to sit.

Yesterday, my wife and I went there to enjoy coffee and cake. The cake was okay, but the service was very poor and unfriendly. I've never experienced anything like it on the entire island, and we come here often. I always try to order with my limited Dutch and be extra friendly, but with the lady at De Jong, I was completely unresponsive. To top it all off, my second coffee was forgotten, and we were ignored. Inside, the other staff members seemed nicer, and it wasn't even that crowded. So, apart from the location in the middle of a lovely little town, it was a truly forgettable experience.

Delicious food and a nice atmosphere. The sandwiches are made fresh for you. The ginger tea was delicious. Staff very friendly and up for a joke. They should cherish this lady.

⭐ 1 star is actually still too much. What an incredibly bad experience. The staff was extremely rude, unfriendly, and not customer-oriented at all. As a customer, you absolutely do not feel welcome. A little normal interaction and friendliness seems too much to ask here. We will never come back here again. Truly a place to skip from now on.

Nice and cozy terrace, but the pastries were a bit disappointing. The Apple Carré was not available on the regular menu and the warm apple turnover was served cold. Service was fairly cool compared to other places.

Pricey, but good products, and that’s what matters, of course! Recommended: sugar bread. Truly delicious!

Kindness really does cost nothing... Two pieces of cake were supposed to be wrapped separately, but were then charged extra... Outrageous!

Breakfast, lunch, or just a delicious pastry with excellent coffee. The staff were a bit reserved at first, but polite, and later, especially on day two, friendly and even full of humor.

After the first encounter, I didn't want to go back. Mediocre quality and a rude waitress who probably thought she was very nice, assertive, and cheeky. I thought I'd ended up in a banana split for a moment :-) but unfortunately, Frans Bauer didn't show up! After that, I just kept driving to Hollum (bakery P.J. de Boer). Significantly better quality and service.

Unpleasant and rude employee who thought she was being funny. Mediocre quality. After this experience, I kept driving to Hollum for a delicious cappuccino and a tasty pastry. And let's not forget the friendly service.

I have rarely encountered such unfriendly staff. Children are practically swept out of the store while trying to order sandwiches.

Simply delicious, absolutely great

Coming off the boat with 3 people, you want to get coffee and cake there. Also wanted to use the toilet, but that was refused; we left and didn't order anything either. Unfriendly staff. We walked on to fish restaurant Metz, where we could get coffee and use the toilet, and even got a second cup for free. Extremely friendly man. Thanks fish restaurant. Had lunch there. Half the menu was unavailable. The waitress was coughing profusely. Not great for working in a bakery. She wasn't particularly interested either. The sandwiches weren't anything special.

It's always wonderful to enjoy a cappuccino and delicious pastries from a real bakery at a real bakery. Just those delicious aromas are enough to make your mouth water.

Update: insulting service, from 5 stars to 3. I asked for oat milk... the waitress was laughing at me with the other people at the table next to me, making a face 😳. I had not expected that. She was insulting. Food is ok. They were a lovely place long ago. They are very pricey as well. Not for good reason... Oh, the coffee and cookies are so good. It is a bit pricey, but this coffee is so good. Ameland highlight sweets and coffee. In every city centre in Nes, it is clean. 2019.

Interesting cakes but not much choice for a hearty breakfast, more like tarts and the like.

It's a shame, such poor service for such good products, and on two occasions! But as a top dog, you can afford it!

Very tasty pastries and bread 🍞

Unfortunately, I'm not satisfied with this bakery. We've been coming to the island for years, several times a year. But every time, this bakery is a disappointment. The service on the terrace takes a long time, and you get the feeling they have to help you with a sigh and a groan, and would rather you were gone. Children, in particular, are not welcome here. The sandwiches are sparsely filled and far too expensive for what you get. It's a shame.

Pricey, and the quality isn't exactly something to write home about. The bread is good, the croissants are downright awful. Soggy and seemingly not fresh. A Frenchman would burst into tears eating a croissant like that.

The first time we were here, we felt treated downright rudely. We also found the sandwiches mediocre, especially compared to the bakery in Hollum. Because we were staying in Nes and the other bakery was closed on Mondays, we picked up sandwiches again later. This time, we received friendly service with a smile. Waiting isn't a problem then!

This is the bakery of Ameland. Delicious bread and great service. Highly recommended.

Average tasting food. Inefficient service that took too long to just grab some premade items from the bakery and bring them to a table.

Too sad for words. A filled cookie costs €2.80, served on a small plate. We had two. Now, when I buy a cookie to take away from the same display case, it's suddenly €0.60 cheaper in the same store. So, getting €1.20 in one go is a bit much. After asking, that's the service. It's too sad to have to make a living this way, baker!

Next level bottle-pulling: 7 euros for a double espresso. Bye!

This "piece" of cake for €4.20 is a disgrace!!! As a customer, I feel like I've been ripped off, to say the least!

The terrace was occupied by two people at four-person tables. We were kindly offered to sit with other guests, but the waitress said that wasn't possible because they could only charge by the table. The couple was then kind enough to pay, so we could be considered "new customers" and served after all. In my opinion, that's not customer-oriented behavior. The waitress at the bakery also seemed visibly annoyed. Apparently, they don't need to be friendly; the customers will come anyway... very disappointing for us.

Delicious cakes, cream puffs, and nut cakes are highly recommended. Friendly service. The rolls are only puffy, industrial rolls (it feels like), but at least they're open at 7:30, while all other bakeries don't open until 8:00-9:30.

Sat on the terrace with a cup of coffee and tea and of course a delicious pastry. Definitely worth it.

I ordered a small cake for my mother's 70th birthday. The communication beforehand went smoothly, and today I picked up the cake – I'm thrilled! It looks absolutely stunning. In my opinion, the value for money is unbeatable! And it tasted incredibly good. Unreservedly recommend it!

Lovely weather and had a cup of coffee outside at De Jong with a piece of cake, which was good to eat as usual. Tip, just ask for 4.80 instead of 4.20 for a normal slice of pastry. Inflation has hit hard here, but it won't be long before it's a piece of cake. Service 100% top, compliments

Unfriendly and bitchy service. If you asked for oat milk for your latte macchiato, you would roll your eyes. It's Monday morning and not much is going on, but we still wait half an hour for two simple drinks.

We had our wedding cake made at this bakery. Delicious three-layer whipped cream cake made entirely to our wishes with photo and fresh autumn fruit. Everyone at the wedding found the taste and texture of the cake very tasty, compliments to the baker!

Always have a cup of coffee and a pastry at De Jong upon arrival on Ameland. With nice weather on the terrace, now inside for the first time. It was pleasantly busy, coffee and a deliciously crispy Paris profiterole arrived quickly, so we had a nice snack. Only the price is so-so, but we're done. And enjoyment is important. A great bakery. There is a wide variety of rolls, croissants and bread. Honey cake and speculoos are also great. The staff is very friendly and customer oriented. I arrived at the bakery 10 minutes before opening time one morning and the boss opened the shop and served me, even though the preparations for the day had not yet been completed.

We ordered a sandwich inside and sat down on the terrace. Then we had to leave and we couldn't get a plate because it was “to go” for the same price. It's a bit strange that for the same amount of money you are not entitled to a spot on the terrace (which is not requested). Food was fine.

Incredible story about yesterday's bread in the store there. It is the same price as the fresh bread. Arguments: otherwise we can close and some people ask about it. Male owner rude before, now again a rude lady with short hair. The ladies who serve on the terrace are very hospitable and they have delicious pastries.

Nice location in the center of Nes. For some unknown reason, no one was allowed to sit inside. There is an extensive menu so there is something tasty for everyone. However, I think the prices you pay for eating on location are too high. Picking up a pastry costs €3, but on the terrace you pay €3.95. There may be a bit of a price difference, but I think 30% is really on the high side.

I really wanted an ice cream today and stopped there. 4 types of ice cream in the counter. Something should have clicked. 3 balls in a cup with cream. Strawberry, mango and stracciatella. None of the varieties tasted like what they were supposed to. By far the worst ice cream I've ever eaten.

Management doesn't make much sense, it seems to me. Asked whose turn it was and sighed deeply when I wanted to order something. The apple cranberry pie slice that I received turned out to be black on the top and I had to throw it away. Came there every year, but will look for a different bakery from now on.

Staff were giggling behind the cash register, were not interested in taking action and did not know how to maintain a professional attitude. When we wanted to order to take away, we were able to take a seat, but later when it was clear that we wanted to take it with us, we suddenly had to go to the store. The colleagues were gossiping about us. And finally, the sandwich is very poor. Shame!

Delicious cake and delicious coffee

The products are really good and very nicely presented. The staff cannot be surpassed in terms of unfriendliness. The display was full. But we didn't get eight tiger rolls. Just a note, we have to pre-order the quantity.

Addition: Order is accepted, paid for and only half given out. Additional customers will then be served. When we asked after waiting 20 minutes, we were told not to yell and that it would be one after the other. A saleswoman was visibly angry that we bought all the pieces with banana. Great selection. Tastes really good. It's a hefty price, but it's worth it for me on vacation. We'd love to come back.

Been here for a drink. I order a coke, my friend would like a beer and asks what kind of beers they have. The lady at the counter replied "we are a konditorei sir, don't you know what that is?". Regardless of whether we know what that is or not, we don't ask. The older hostess with glasses could use a lesson in service.

The food is fine, but you get the feeling that you should be grateful to be able to eat here. First the tables are cleared, then they say that they will come to take the order, but after 10 minutes no one has been there. When you go inside and ask if they forgot to take the order, they are annoyed. Response, we have only a few employees. Fine, we understand, but please remain customer-friendly. We won't come here again.

Together with my mother and my husband, I celebrated my birthday on my native island. And where is the best place for coffee and cake? Of course at the De Jong bakery in Nes! The weather was nice, so it was nice to sit outside on the terrace. We were served by the milkman's daughter (sorry I don't know your name 🫢) It became a small party, partly because of her. Thank you for your kindness, my mother was so happy that you still knew her 😘 See you next year! Another tip for de Jong, the window frames need a lick of paint 😉

I asked very politely if I could order tea at a table inside and breastfeed my baby because it was too windy on the terrace. The older lady behind the counter shook her head and said not possible. Then I left totally irritated. And definitely won't be coming back.
