Amsterdam's best kept secret. Went here with friends on our last night in Amsterdam, and so happy we could end our trip here. Amazing ambience, good/chill music, great and creative cocktails, and awesome staff. It's located in Amsterdam Oud West, so a little outside of the city centre, but still walkable(or by tram). And because of this, less crowds. We went around 8pm on a Saturday, and easily found space downstairs in a nice comfy area with benches and ben bags(felt like we had our own VIP section). Highly recommend.

There was a man working behind the bar. We visited him twice and he told us he was busy. The third time he took our order and his attitude was mean. First and last time at this place.

For a black space thats for black people and minorities i didn’t feel safe. You could really feel the favoritism within the service and its sad really!

Just happened to ‘stumble’ upon Bar Bario for a after dinner drink (as we were ‘kicked’ out of the Restaurant Soil at 10 PM on a Friday night because it was ‘closing’ 🤨) with my friend. What a lovely atmosphere, kind, open, warm, not pretentious. The kind of bar I remember of the ‘old days’ in Amsterdam (I already live here for more than 35 years:). Also heartwarming to see the openly expressions of support to Palestine at the walls. I dropped my AirPods unfortunately, to find it again the next day as it was safe with the personnel.. 🙏 Recommend this already to my Son (of 18) and will come back…

Had good expectations because I heard nice things. Unfortunately the service was really sub par and we feel like we didn't get the menu and event time frame that was advertised on the socials and paid for.

Wow, what a shame! I’ve been looking forward to checking out Bario for a while and last night a bunch of friends and I finally went there. The place itself seems really nice but unfortunately the experience was completely ruined by the grumpy and very disrespectful bartenders (mainly the black-haired, short girl) We eventually got to speak to other customers at the bar and found out that more people were having the same experience as us. It is unacceptable to work in gastronomy (a job you chose to have yourself) and without any shame show so openly that you are annoyed by your paying customers. When i go to a bar/restaurant i see the staff as the face and representation of the business and if im welcomed with such attitude, it affects my whole opinion. I would love to give it another try but i really don’t want to be treated in such way again, so that was it for me at this bar.

Had an amazing chai latte here, thanks to the wonderful Riam! The service was quick, and the atmosphere was incredibly friendly. Definitely a must-visit on your next trip to Amsterdam!

My friends and I stopped in for a drink one afternoon. This is a nice, relaxing bar with delicious drinks and great service. If I lived in town, this would definitely be a regular place for me to meet friends to catch up and grab a cocktail. The owners have done a great job in making it a neighborhood, community-focused, safe place. Cheers!

Excellent queer bar with lovely staff, good wine, drinks and draft beer selection as well amazing food. Facilities were super well kept! Head here if you want to have a great time

Best bar in Amsterdam, by and for beautiful people. Very welcoming and inclusive atmosphere (unless you’re a hater, I guess). The cocktails are amazing, you need to try Sierra’s espresso martini. The music is always on point, and they have a really cool art exhibition space.

The absolute best bar in Amsterdam! I’m forever amazed at their ability to create the (much needed!) space that prioritizes black and POC queer and trans folx in every creative way possible: from neurodivergent inclusive reading groups to vibrant photography expositions and pop up food kitchens. Not only are you safe to just ‘be’ here, you’re invited to ‘be’ in community - this place is a home for us, by us. Thank you Sierra and co. for constantly reimagining what a community bar can truly look like.

I would like to leave a review in response to Nofar Efraim (the person who left a review accusing Bario of racism and antisemitism). As a Jewish woman myself, I never ever experienced antisemitism at Bar Bario, this sort of behaviour goes against everything this establishment stands for. This is one of the most inclusive bars I’ve ever been to. The atmosphere is amazing and the prices are totally fair—especially considering the high-quality products. I am assuming that Nofar felt intimidated by Bario’s support for the Palestinian struggle, something that unfortunately, many people wrongfully view as antisemitic behaviour. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth, and again, as a Jewish woman who stands with Palestine (and is proud of her Jewish heritage), I am debunking this absurd accusation and hope that such a review won’t stop anyone (Jewish or not) from visiting Bar Bario and miss out on a great experience. Sending my love to the owner and staff, and thank you for spreading awareness and inclusivity.

Bario is easily one of my favourite places in Amsterdam. Coming here feels like a homecoming, with friendly faces you always recognise and a vibrant atmosphere that’s is always changing and showcasing new talents and ideas previously unknown. They serve cocktails and mocktails that are to die for, I always ask who ever is working the bar what their favourite one is and I’m never disappointed! 11/10

Bar Bario is an inclusive bar that has a reputation in Amsterdam and further afield for representing the rights and voices of marginalised people, including victims of war crimes and queer women of colour. We adore their work and are proud that Sierra has assembled a community of love and care, and we work with to make our LGBTQIA+ community safer through workshops and campaigns. Thank you for building this special place and letting us be part of this important project.

This is one of my favourite places to go to for chilled vibes and amazing cocktails made by the staff. The space is cosy and the staff are gorgeous and warm human beings. A welcome space for the marginalised black and POC community. Reading the reviews, it seems that there are a bunch of entitled z1oni5ts and white folk coming to a space that prioritises black and brown queer POC and are frustrated that they aren’t centred. This isn’t YOUR space. You’re a visitor so act accordingly. Just because you take up space everywhere else, doesn’t mean you get to do that here also. Support this business with a genuine heart but leave your ridiculous prejudices at the door.

As someone who's lived in Amsterdam for many years, this is one of the few places that I call an absolute GEM in this city. From the fantastic, out of this world cocktail menu, to the superb and incredible staff, the vibe of the whole place is just inviting and relaxed and makes you want to live here. I've had more spicy tequila shots here than I have had tequila shots in my life, made random friends with whom I could go drunk dancing and also in depth in discussing world politics, watched gay series on the beamer and visited art expo's. There is no place like Bario, and Amsterdam is lucky to have it!

It was really nice to visit a space that didn't shy away from showcasing their progressive views and standing for what's right. Was pleasantly surprised by the pro Palestine posters and stickers in the bar. The mocktail and the food were pretty good too!

Was there for a birthday party and the staff let a homeless man that didn't buy a drink or anything stay in the bar and this person stole my friend's bag. Be ware of your stuff there

My friend's bag got stolen there and when we ask the bar staff for help, they informed us that this is a frequent occurrence and this happened at least 4 or 5 times already. Be careful with your stuff there

I noticed how 'nice' she was towards people with color, and how unfriendly she was towards white people... Not the best experience.. I ate here last week, coming from the US and I found the female host/owner of this restaurant not friendly at all. i am a person of colour. Extremely rude and very unorganized. Next to that the food was not that great. As a person with Caribbean roots myself I expected more. Wouldn't recommend it.

I’m not even kidding this is top 3 bars I’ve been to in the world. First of all, the staff there are extremely kind, welcoming, and warm. Sofia at the bar is soooo sweet & cool and makes INCREDIBLE drinks!! Secondly, the Trini food they have is to die for! No joke it’s loaded with flavor, it’s comforting in Amsterdam’s rainy and cold climate, and it makes you feel so full and joyful afterwards! Get the stew chicken; you will not regret it at all. Lastly, the atmosphere and vibe is just soooo extremely life-affirming. It is clear a lot of thought was put into this space, and I’m really happy I was told about it! It is truly a safe and invigorating space for Black & queer folks in Amsterdam!!!!

Nice community space, with good cocktails. When I entered there was no one behind the bar. After waiting some time to order a drink, I asked someone if they know who is the bartender. They pointed to someone standing next to the bar. I asked her if I can have a drink. They were another guest at the bar. After some time the bartender arrived. They pulled me over to explain that I was reported by the guest. What I did was racist, according to them, because the skin color of the guest is the same as the bartender's. She was nice, explaining it calmly, and responding to all of my questions. This place is fun but too sensitive for me to return.

Sat there for 10 minutes, barista was having fun with friends, nobody even trying to serve us so we just packed and went out. It has a cool vibe though if you are one of the “family members” and hang out with barista.

Zoooo! De service van de bardame is alles wat niet hospitality is. Zo onvriendelijk en ongeïnteresseerd kom je niet vaak mensen tegen. In de gids op tafel staat dat je ze moet waarschuwen als je je niet comfortabel voelt (vrij vertaald) nou, dat voelt echt niet veilig daar. Het zou om 'love' gaan in de bar. Niet echt dus. Alleen love voor de mensen die de bardame interessant vindt. Onwelkom gevoel bij de bar. Het eten was lekker

Bar Bario is a creative hub in Oud-West that is an Amsterdam pioneer. Owner Sierra and their amazing staff have been instrumental in creating a safe space for women, the queer community, and people of color. They were a real pleasure to collaborate with when I coordinated a photo exhibition and film night.

Very cute, vibey. Definitely not a cocktail bar so don't go expecting mixology or anything lol. But you feel really welcomed from the second you sit down and that on its own is worth a lot I think! Update: has become a repeat visit for me and they now do tons of events and really engage with the community. Bumped to 5 stars :)

Really cool place, good vibes and nice peeps. Had a really good time! Loved the invitation for safer spaces policy at the beginning of the menu, well written and on point. Need more places like this! (One small thing though, had two cocktails and both of them were a tad too sweet to my taste, I’d go easier on the sugar 💖)

Really nice bar and expo, cheap cocktails

A nice and chilled bar for cool hangouts and meeting new people. It is spacious with multiple floor seating areas. It also has an art exhibition space adding up to its cool vibe with a touch of the art scenery.

Unique and important space! It feels like a true community space for (bipoc) queer people. They organize meaningful workshops, there’s an art gallery, and other pop-up events. I can definitely recommend swinging by and meeting new people. Staff is incredible! They make the best cocktails.

Amazing bar with good drinks and great cocktails for a fair price. They have regular special evenings, such as queer speed dating and talks/performances. Note that this is a bar by and for POC queer people. Everyone is welcome, but be respectful of taking up space. And some of the events are specifically for POC.

Great simple cocktails. Super friendly staff. Overall passes the vibe. When you get hungry they don’t have a problem with you going to some neighboring fast food places and bringing the food back to the bar. Which I find really nice and gives it an extra „home“ character. If you get bored there’s a couple of really fun card games lying around as well :)

We live locally and it is our go-to spot for a drink. 5.50 euro pints!
