I wanted to use the toilet here, but I had to pay €0.50 in cash. The boy behind the counter was very friendly and checked this for me with a female employee. Unfortunately, she reacted very rudely and unfriendly. I didn't have any cash with me and suggested paying by card, but that wasn't possible either. In the end, I walked on to find a toilet somewhere else. It's a shame, especially since the boy himself was very friendly.

Very friendly staff, nice cup of coffee with a chocolate and a liqueur. You can also eat there, but we haven't done that yet.

The decor here is so cozy. Completely in the style of the miners. This makes the experience extra enjoyable. Normally I'm not such a fan of eating *in* an indoor shopping center (I prefer actually looking outside), but... this is big enough to forget that that isn't the case. The experience grabs your attention.

Grand Café Bickels!! What a nice place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch; the themed decor alone is worth a visit with a delicious cup of coffee (it was really good!!). You immediately feel transported back to the Limburg mining era. There are artifacts everywhere, and be sure to check out the toilet; even there, you still feel like you're in the mines 🙃.

Bickels has improved significantly over the years. In the early years, you often had to wait a long time before service arrived, often so long that I got up and left without ordering anything. Fortunately, that is no longer the case lately, and you are served quickly and courteously. The food is good, the staff is friendly, and the decor is inspired by the mines, featuring various names from the mines. Bickels is a place you definitely must visit if you are in the Makado. I ate at Bickels for the first time today, August 10, 2026. As a descendant of a miner, I am super proud of this restaurant because they honor the coal mines of South Limburg in the spirit of all miners. The food was very good, the service was very friendly and fast, and prices are normally not excessively expensive. On average, including drinks, we spent €25 per person. Bickels is simply highly recommended.

You sit down to grab a cappuccino. Then someone walks by and asks you to order. "No, I can't do that, someone will be with you shortly." After waiting for fifteen minutes and seeing 3 other tables (which were occupied after ours) being served, we got up and walked away. It's a shame; they have pretty good cappuccinos, but if they aren't even capable of keeping track of the order of arrivals, then forget it. However, full attention was paid to the cutlery buckets, for which someone came by at least three times to keep them filled. Wrong priorities in my opinion. This wasn't the first time, by the way, and I see more reviews like this. Shame, shame, shame.

Yesterday we went to eat at Bickels. We've been here often and never had any complaints, but yesterday the service left me speechless. First, we received criticism because the table was shifted 2 cm because the sun was shining in our faces. We were not politely informed that this was not allowed; we were told that they don't move tables because we have to get past... we are talking about 2 cm... Next, we ordered food; the food there is always delicious. The food was served neatly, but immediately there were at least 10 flies hovering over our plates. We walked to the bar to ask if they had anything for this, since you couldn't eat; everyone was bothered by it. The girl behind the bar laughed and said, "Yes, this is a known issue and we can't do anything about it, so that's just how it is." I asked if that was her answer, and she laughed. Scandalous. Afterwards, when settling the bill, we were asked if everything was to our liking. We explained the situation, and it was indicated that they have been struggling with this for weeks. We pointed out that they could respond to customers in a friendlier manner. It's a shame that no compensation was offered, but that they were actually happy you're leaving. I'm totally not used to this from Bickels!!!

Waited a long time before someone came, staff were friendly though But I won't be drinking a glass of wine there anymore; for the price you have to pay for it, I find it very meager. I spoke to the staff, but that was the instruction they were given. So for me, just a cup of coffee then.

Hadn't been there for a while. The food was fine, but the menu had been significantly shortened. It was 5:30, we were practically finished, but I got an unwelcoming feeling of being told to pay and leave. No, not worth repeating.

Very unfriendly staff, they literally chase you away. You sit down, want to order something, and they harass you. They just say they don't want to serve you because others have been waiting longer. Real whiners there, simply incompetent.

Never again. Croquettes exploded in the pan and you get them on your plate floating on a layer of grease. Sent them back and the second one was the same story.

Usable if you're hungry, but nothing special. The portions of fries are large, but that doesn't improve a mediocre burger. They really need an upgrade to real beef instead of those compressed commercial wholesale things... anyway, understandable in a way, of course, but just a shame because that's why I'm not going to recommend this one.

The employee then grabbed everything off the table and walked away without another word, leaving us completely bewildered. So arrogant and so unfriendly. We left immediately, while other customers looked at us as if we'd been kicked out by the staff. Another couple, two tables next to us, had seen everything and decided to leave immediately because they had been waiting 40 minutes for a sandwich, as they told us outside. Because this treatment had left a bad taste in our mouths, we called them; it was the manager himself who was growling at us. Yesterday, I decided to give this place another try: the tea was lukewarm, almost cold, and the cola glass had lipstick marks and greasy fingerprints on it. It didn't look like it had been washed off at all. Staff told me this was absolutely impossible: "Quite a lot of people complain that the tea is just a bit too hot, and we warn you about that," and the dirty glass said, "Oh, that happens sometimes, I'll bring you a new glass." After a new glass was slammed on the table, we got up and declared that this was really the last time, never again!! What a terrible thing.

After sitting there for 15 minutes, I decided to ask if I could order something. There were 8 tables occupied by people; the rest were empty. I asked a young man if I could order something, but he responded rudely and said, "We are coming to the table." If it is busy, I can imagine having to wait; however, there was little going on. They won't see me again being so unfriendly and having a lot of staff walking around but not anyone coming to ask if I wanted to order something.

I can't go higher than two stars. We had a simple toasted sandwich with minimal toppings and three shrimp croquettes (the three of us didn't even reach the size of two decent croquettes. Two slices of bread, which were nice and fresh, and only one tiny tub of butter, which was so hard you had to slice it because spreading it was impossible! To top it all off, we had some mixed greens (including the stalks), some grated carrots from a jar, and all without tomato, cucumber, or anything else to brighten it up. Oh yeah, definitely no dressing on it, so perfect for the goat at the petting zoo, but not as a side dish on your plate), along with a diet Coke and a glass of milk, the cost was over forty euros. With a 10% tip (just because I always do), the total came to around €43! Including €0.70 for service. Was it worth it? Well, no, for that price, I expected a bit more!

Long wait times to order. Staff does everything they can to avoid seeing you. Prices are ridiculously high. Absolutely terrible, never coming here again.

The service is a bit of a letdown. They come to your table to take your drink order, and then you never see them again, so you just have to be patient... The food is always excellent.

It's incredibly expensive... truly ridiculously expensive. I think the pea soup was from a can, and the sausages were see-through, without black bread and bacon, but with a dry half slice of bread and a mini roll, and I paid over €10 for it. A toasted sandwich cost over €10. The three of us had a light/small lunch, so we didn't eat much (we were still hungry) and had two drinks each for €60. I don't mind paying a bit more, but this was truly outrageous, truly outrageous. I'll never go back. They don't get enough for so much!

My companions and I had a wonderful time. Unfortunately, the service and the staff's attitude left much to be desired. The food and drinks were practically thrown on the table, and there was hardly anything pleasant to say. The drinks we ordered were also gone three times. The flan was very tasty, but given the experience, I won't be returning.

A charming spot for a bite to eat and a drink. Unfortunately, the soft drinks were out of stock; things like iced green tea and apple juice were gone. Ordering the pie also didn't go smoothly; one of the pie slices we ordered was forgotten when they were served. The staff rolled their eyes when we pointed this out. This didn't come across as very customer-friendly. Despite the delicious food, I wouldn't recommend it.

The food is excellent, with fresh ingredients and plenty of it. Served by friendly staff who form a real team. The "background music" was a bit too loud for my liking. But that's probably just a personal thing.

I had a hamburger with my son. The service was friendly. The coffee was good. Unfortunately, the hamburger wasn't. It looked nice, but the meat was cooked way too hard. Bone dry. Such a shame, because the decorations were really good.

We always have a cup of coffee when we go to Bickels. As far as I'm concerned, the last time was the day before yesterday. It was over €7 for two (relatively) small cups of coffee. Hey! We're in Limburg, not the Randstad! Even at Van der Valk, you get more coffee for your money, and then you only pay €6.20 for two cups. As far as I'm concerned, Bickels can go to hell!

Great place for a good meal. The staff is helpful and very friendly. The reference to mining and miners feels nostalgic, and the whole interior exudes the atmosphere of how it must have been back in the day. I'm not a big fan of eating at Makado, simply because there are no windows and no outside contact. In the case of Bickels, it's an interesting fact. 😏 If you have to eat there, Bickels is the best option!

Tables not clean, staff won't come to your table even when you call. You don't get a spoon with soup.

We waited an hour for a healthy sandwich and a grilled cheese sandwich. They crammed in as many tables as possible, even though the kitchen apparently couldn't handle it. The sandwich and the grilled cheese sandwich were also subpar. This really ruined the atmosphere at the table. We'll never go there again.

Today we wanted to go for a drink with our children, grandchildren and foster children. We were not approached very friendly and were immediately told that we had to make a reservation in the future so that they could let the staff work instead of going home. Got up and left with 13 people. Then not. We are welcome everywhere but not here. They apparently do not like to earn money because there was hardly anyone there. How busy. The children were immediately taught that you do not welcome customers like that and then chase them away.

Today Saturday June 7, 2nd time we were here. But this time we didn't like it at all. We were there around 2 pm. They were just closing the upper part. There was still enough space there. That way we saw that they didn't work with gloves and no hairnet. We saw even more things happening that actually shouldn't be allowed. Too dirty! Then the food arrived. I had ordered the veggie burger, but a Mexican burger arrived. A veggie burger could have arrived but that would take a very long time. Ok, then the Mexican burger. I commented that I wanted to be compensated. It was reasonable. Burnt though. My partner's sandwich was cold! They didn't ask if it tasted good. Nothing! When paying, I commented that we were not satisfied. The employees probably slept through their customer service lessons, especially the young man who helped out today. Conclusion: very bad business. We won't go there anymore.

Saturday 24 May I went shopping in Makado and had lunch at Bickels in between! It was busy that day and luckily we were able to get a spot (a couple left before us, which freed up the table). After acting quickly and taking off our coats, we looked at the menu. Not much later a young man came to take our order. We wanted to have a drink and something to eat, but this time we could only pass on the drinks, he came back later for the food. In my opinion a strange approach, but he kept his word and came back. We took our order and he said that it was very busy in front of the kitchen and that it could take a bit longer. The drinks arrived on time, but I would have liked the radio silence afterwards about our lunch to be different, we waited more than 30 minutes for 2 sandwiches, in between to give the table some more attention would not have been an unnecessary luxury. I went for a warm chicken sandwich and my table companion for a brie sandwich. It tasted great, although the bread with the chicken was very soaked with sauce, for me this could be a bit less. Fortunately, paying went quickly, I had asked for this when they came to collect the plates. Before we really left, we went to the toilet and it looked great! The style of the shop was continued in the toilets and that appeals to me very much!

Welcoming place to have a drink. The menu is not big on drinks. We make do with what we have and make the most of it. The service is very good. Very helpful. Not speaking Dutch properly, the dialogue went very well. Located in the gallery, it is wheelchair accessible. I did not consume any food.

Had a great meal in a cozy restaurant. The atmosphere takes you back to the time of the mines. One of the few places where this era is still maintained. The staff is friendly and the price is fair for what you get.

Had lunch here for the first time. I had a 'gratinated onion soup' for a whopping €9.75 and my husband had a Club Sandwich. My onion soup was served, in a flower pot! Baked with lots of cheese. Underneath a thick piece of dark baguette. The onion soup itself was extremely salty! And certainly not home-made, but from a pack or can. Was a huge disappointment. As well as the Club Sandwich! Moreover, the service was far from friendly. The exception was a younger girl that there did serve! We will certainly not return after this huge setback!

We wanted to try a different restaurant. During our previous visit to the shopping centre we looked at the menu to see what was available. We went there this week to try the place out for the first time, we thought we would have a nice meal. The location is beautiful and is neatly maintained, we can't say anything about that. We ordered our drinks from a colleague. As a customer we couldn't find a meal on the menu, we asked if it was still there. I think there was a new menu, which looked neatly presented. They said it was still there. Great! After we had decided what we wanted we asked if we could order. A colleague will be with you soon. Our food was taken by the colleague who was the epitome of friendliness. Because this was our first time here we had a request / question about our meal (which is understandable if you are coming for the first time?). When we asked, a strange face was pulled, we checked if this is possible? We got no answer to this, we asked again. Is this possible? “Yes, I have to add it! It was said in a not so friendly tone” this is where it went wrong. Wanted to order my meal, indicated that I did not see it but your colleague said that it was there anyway. Is this correct? I asked politely. “Then you already have your answer!? If my colleague said this” with a rather aggressive undertone. At this moment the colleague left to Just ask what exactly my meal contained. Is the customer not allowed to ask anything then? The customers next to us immediately said after leaving colleague, now she is in a bad mood, what an unfriendly country girl if she has to make a living from this! That is what we thought too….. When we returned, the colleague indicated that we wanted to pay for the drinks and did not want the meals. Not a single word was spoken and she did not know how quickly she had to leave. “Have a nice day” said again with a dirty undertone. The customers next to us immediately started shaking their heads and shrugged their shoulders. Well, they said, great service here. After our wheelchair was unfolded, I walked over to her and asked, are new customers always treated like this? According to her, there was nothing wrong with the service she had just given, she had never heard of this before. I indicated that you can ask the customers on the left of us, you will hear it yourself in a moment. I also said that this is a great shame for this beautiful business. We wished the ladies a nice day and left. After such a first impression, you will not see us here again, nor will we recommend it. A listening ear and friendly service does not seem too much to ask, does it? We can spend our money anywhere. We were very disappointed with this service, unfortunately it ruined our day out. Service left much to be desired. It was very busy granted but we had to wait so long to get our bill and leave. We were sat at a cleared table for 15 minutes. Asked two different servers for our bill to be told their colleague could cash us out, which was not relayed to said colleague.

Sad that a woman is sent away because she wanted to bottle-feed her baby while sitting for barely 1 month. And while the restaurant is almost empty. Many looked surprised after this action. I had the club sandwich and was curious what it would be for €17.50. That was very disappointing. Lots of salad and little meat. But the worst part was the huge slice of tomato 🍅. It looked like a disk of wood. Not being able to cut these, let alone eat them. When I reported this after eating the rest, they said that I had eaten the rest. Sure, don't wait another 20 minutes. No more Bickels for us when we are in the Makado.

We went here for a sandwich. I don't remember what it was called, but it was with bacon and onion. We waited at least half an hour for one sandwich and then it turned out to be a regular sandwich with bacon and onion in a bowl next to it. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth waiting so long for it.

Nice Grand Café. Completely in the style of the mines that used to be in this region. To visit the toilet, you descend via the elevator, so to speak. Attention to detail and lunch was good too.
