Top spot!! We stayed three nights and enjoyed a completely different dinner each evening, but all three were fantastic!! At the table, you can choose how you want the bread baked: with seeds or flour! The accompanying wines are also highly recommended! The service is very professional, yet relaxed and friendly. And in the morning, you're also spoiled with a very extensive and delicious breakfast! This three-day stay was a gift for my husband's birthday. We hope to enjoy it again together next year. I've eaten here twice now, including one night. I can only say it's fantastic! I've eaten at several Michelin-starred restaurants, but I've never had such a wonderful wine and food experience. The service is also very friendly and up for a laugh. The hotel room was small but very warm and cozy—you really don't need anything more. Beautiful wooded location.

Great food, compliments brigade

Yesterday morning I drove past on my way to Holterberg for a walk in the woods with our dog. We were staying in a safari tent in the woods for the weekend, looking for some peace and quiet. I had actually ruled out making a reservation because of our dog. When I decided to inquire personally that morning, it turned out it was possible. They arranged for us at a dog-friendly table (friendly to us, nice and quiet, and friendly to the glassware and crockery 😄). After a walk in the woods, with sand under our shoes and clumps of moss in our golden retriever's hair, we received a fantastic welcome. We enjoyed it; the food was incredibly good, expertly crafted, surprising, and beautifully flavored. The service did exactly what a restaurant experience should be: feeling completely at ease and enjoying great food, wine, but most importantly, each other. Team Swarte Ruiter, thank you! You truly made our weekend complete. Michelin star? You get a ninja star from us, because you kick ass! See you again!

The restaurant is tastefully decorated. A warm welcome awaits. The à la carte menu was delicious! Our favorite dishes included pumpkin with porcini mushrooms, beef tenderloin, and beef cheek with porcini mushrooms.

One night, good rooms, great breakfast, good food with a star if I understood correctly

The dinner was very good. You could sit on the terrace or inside. The breakfast is sensational! The rooms are rather underwhelming.

Had a lovely lunch. Beautiful lunch dishes, special amuses. Beautiful location. Too bad so few people enjoy such a delicious lunch!

It was definitely worth the drive to eat here (had to drive for over 1.5 hours but definitely worth it). It is a very beautiful area and has a hotel but we only went to eat. Opted for the 6 course menu. It is neat but not fancy, pleasant service. Very nice dishes with nice techniques, surprising wines. I definitely recommend this 1-star restaurant

Don't dare to draw attention to this pearl because you can still just sit down... with a maximum of 2 people. Hospitality is of paramount importance here, but the white brigade does not compromise on this! Everything was right! Enjoyed to the max!!! Top service with beautiful dishes. Comfortable rooms

A really delicious meal with wine and champagne. Definitely recommended.. very small minus point, there was quite a noisy group that was a bit predominant..

We have been coming to this hotel/restaurant for 15 years because of delicious food, wine and good sleeping accommodations. We booked the "Holten's glory" package: 6 course dinner and overnight stay in a luxurious hotel room. The kitchen definitely deserves a Michelin star. So we can be brief about the food: it's just fine. Beautiful flavors, excellent wine pairings, and beautifully presented. Also nothing but praise for the breakfast. But an arrangement is about the total package. In our opinion, the service in the restaurant and the houses do not deserve the star. It starts upon arrival. When booking, make sure you make a note that a "regular" customer is coming. These are your ambassadors! The pace needs to increase in the restaurant. We sat for about an hour and then only had the appetizers. And we were quite hungry! During the evening we have the impression that a standard tune is being played with a certain distance. There is little interaction and time for the customer. The "luxury hotel room" needs a major update. There are strong predominant scent sticks in the room. Probably for a reason? The water reservoir of the Nespresso coffee machine is calcified. There was a pastry in the room. Wonderful, but there are two of us? The bathroom also has a toilet. We don't think that's very fresh. You have to shower in the bathtub and that is all quite cramped, with an old shower head that keeps dropping down. Our suggestion: take out the bath and put in a walk-in rain shower. There is one (too) small sink and paper drinking cups. Paper drinking cups, this is really not possible. The room has a small TV that hangs almost from the ceiling. The only positive thing is the bed: it is wonderful. As far as we are concerned, the experience was not up to par, and you can expect that for a Michelin star and a hefty price. Unfortunately, we will not be returning here after 15 years.

Enjoyed the arrangement de Swarte Ruijter. Had a delicious dinner with beautiful matching wines. Dinner extended with the cheeses, a more than good choice. Friendly staff who also like to answer questions and have a chat. Beautiful spacious room. Breakfast very extensive and tasteful. In short, enjoyed and pampered.

I prefer to review De Swarte Ruijter as a restaurant rather than a hotel. Sleeping was secondary for us here. The food was delicious, tasteful and beautifully “plated”. With six courses we went to our room well-filled. The interior of the restaurant is atmospheric. All in all five stars. Service is friendly but could be a bit more attentive and knowledgeable in the area of ​​drinks for a star establishment. A non-alcoholic assortment consisting of more than one (by the way delicious, let this be an encouragement) mocktail is not an unnecessary luxury these days. Then the sleeping, great rooms and a nice bed. The bathroom (lovely shower) may look a bit old with the small tiles and the large heaters give the whole a somewhat less sheik feeling in my opinion. Certainly in view of the atmospheric interior of the restaurant. In short, we had a wonderful evening and a great breakfast the next morning. Well, here's another tip: at breakfast, there could be a bit more explanation of where things come from (unless the yoghurt comes from the AH shelf, in which case it doesn't), that makes for an extra special experience.

Top location, in the middle of nature. The garden rooms are located opposite the restaurant and from your room you can walk straight into the woods. Dinner was really delicious, including the appetizers. Dishes could have been a little more exciting, but that is a matter of taste. However, the breakfast room/bar and the rooms may be renovated. Overdue maintenance here and there and just not chic enough for a star restaurant. But we certainly enjoyed this beautiful location!

We really enjoyed the 7 course dinner with our culinary club. We didn't sleep here. We have been around for 25 years and this was really special. Refined dishes with flavor explosions. Top! Thanks to the nice service.

What a beautiful location in an equally beautiful environment. The food is a fantastic experience that lives up to its Michelin star. The amuse-bouches in particular are worth an extra mention. A balanced wine choice. The hotel rooms are right next to it. The breakfast was also very good. The area is beautiful for a walk. Top location.

Enjoyed the dishes and the atmosphere again.

Because we were blown away by the food and gastronomy the first time (3 years ago), we were happy to go back. We sat at the table on Friday evening at 6pm. First of all, the food was once again delicious and fantastic. That's definitely worth a star. While the gastronomy was really good the first time, this time it was unfortunately substandard. Not star worthy. We believe that if you eat in a star restaurant, both should be correct. We had an 8 course meal and were there for 5.5 hours. The last 2 courses took 2.5 hours. People who came in an hour later (yes, also 8 courses) were already having their coffee before we got dessert. We shared a cheese board, but the other people also had a cheese board each. It was fine to wait for good food, but this did not go well. No drinks were served with either the cheese or the dessert. Wasn't asked. We got up after dessert because after 5.5 hours of waiting and delicious food, we were fed up. I had a half glass arrangement. I indicated this disappointment at the checkout and that was the worst part, there was only an "oh yes". That will then be 450 euros. We looked at each other and both thought the same thing. This was Swarte Ruijter for the last time. At least say that it is annoying for us or have a cup of coffee on the house or come up with something. Until recently it was our number 1 star restaurant but unfortunately downgraded to we won't be back. Sorry for the star chef, he deserves the star!
