What a fantastic location for dinner! Everything was top-notch: a cozy restaurant, friendly service, and all the dishes were deliciously prepared. It was so nice that the chef even came to the table to ask how everything was going. It was a fantastic evening!

It's always delicious to eat here and it's cozy to sit, but last time we were here we had the Balkan menu, and it was fantastic! The starter is nicely varied, and the main course is a delicious piece of lamb, super tender and well-seasoned. And so much so that we enjoyed it again the next day. The super-friendly chef came to the table to carve the meat and explained everything. He and his team did a great job again; we enjoyed it and will definitely be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Balkan menu. We were warmly welcomed by the chef. And with the main course, we even received a brief explanation. Very helpful! We were given the leftovers, which we enjoyed the next day. Thanks, chef.

We love eating here because of the friendly and good service, the delicious food, and the very nice owner...it's a cozy and pleasant place...definitely recommended, with a good and tasty menu. There was also a game menu, and we ordered dishes from that today.

With a table of six, it was beautifully set and decorated for a birthday. After drinks, we ordered delicious warm rolls. The main courses were all different, but perfectly presented, hot, and well-prepared. Plenty of fries on the side 👌🏼 The service was good. Desserts also had plenty of choices, and the taste was excellent. In short, a wonderfully flavorful evening.

Had a delicious meal for a reasonable price. Vegetarian options are also recommended. The chef personally came to the table to ask if everything was to my liking. The tournedos I ordered was exactly as I requested – top-notch. The appetizers and other snacks "on the house" were excellent.

Varied menu; unfortunately, there was a problem with the tournedos, but it was neatly resolved. The food is delicious, but I'd like to see more vegetables. Beef stew is highly recommended.

We were invited, very busy, very hot, many flies!!! Had to wait a very long time for our drink, had to wait a very long time for our dishes. Which were mediocre! We had ordered wine, when we had almost consumed our main course... The wine came!! No, it was too pitiful for words, and your good money! Really too bad! I thought it was a children's class behind the bar, what fun we had.

For a regular bistro very nice food. A few surprising drinks and for once some variation on the menu instead of the standard cheese and shrimp croquette. The chef who came to ask if everything was okay was very much appreciated. In short. A nice address for the bistro kitchen

You immediately feel welcome and completely at home. If there's anything you could complain about at a high level, it might be the fries – homemade would be the icing on the cake, or they could easily be left out altogether. But that's complaining at the highest level – we'll definitely be back! 5 stars What a top-notch restaurant! The Bistro d'ouwe Leeuw in Hoogerheide has a wonderful setting, super-friendly service, and dishes that aren't just delicious, but also presented with a lot of love. You immediately feel welcomed and at ease. As we really want to say, we want to pray for you - and then you'll miss the fries. Huisgemaakt zouden ze het helemaal af maken, of ze may have been removed. This is really high level. Wij come zeker terug!

Very warmly welcomed. Extensive menu with seasonal suggestions. For some reason my table companions had to wait a while for their fries which (was announced) was a shame because their main course had been there for quite some time. If that had not been the case, I would have given 5 stars for service. The food was very tasty, not 5 stars because the stroganoff sauce was very creamy, the mixed grill was small compared to the other dishes. We really had a fantastic evening, to go back.

On Thursday evening, March 6, 2025, around 9 p.m., we were looking for a place to have a drink with a small group. At all restaurants in the area we were no longer welcome, or we could stay until the last diners left. That could mean that we had to leave in 5 minutes. At d'Ouwe Leeuw we were welcome and we could sit quietly. It was cozy, we felt the hospitality and the service was very friendly. Top!

So many delicious dishes to choose from, here you can really enjoy food in a friendly atmosphere.

We had a lovely meal here last night, with good friends. Nothing was a problem for head chef Dino and the staff to accommodate our wishes and that of the kids. The menu was traditional but broad, they also had a range of wild game options which went down as a real treat for us kiwis! Honestly eveything was delicious and I cannot wait to go back! Kids comment: Awesome desert and they even had a menu in english 😁

I had some comments in an earlier review of mine, but I ate here again a few weeks ago and it was simply fantastic!!! Good food and nice service. The cook came to the table to ask if everything was to your liking, and I was genuinely surprised that they knew from the last time. People often say when it is not good, but if it has been good it can certainly be said. In short, Chapeau and keep it up! We will definitely come back again.

Delicious food again. With 2 teenage kids who love the prawns. Friendly staff, absolutely not pushy. Dino is really a top chef. He also comes to visit the guests after finishing his cooking. Definitely worth going back again.

Because we had a very good evening at the Ouwe Leeuw earlier, we went back this week with friends from America. The food was delicious again, the staff was super nice, but the service was so slow that it bothered us all evening. It took a very long time before we were helped, and something was repeatedly forgotten. Hopefully this is a temporary problem!

The kitchen handles allergies well. There is an allergen menu, but they make every effort where they can to adapt the dish to the customer's allergies. Very nice to be able to eat like this

Uitstekende Bistro, vriendelijke en vlotte bediening, gezellig ingericht, Gevarieerde menukaart met o.a. vegetarische en exotische gerechten. De presentatie van de gerechten is bijna kunstzinnig te noemen. Prijs kwaliteit verhouding goed, wat u kunt verwachten van een kwalitatief goed restaurant. Last but not least... het smaakte uitstekend!

Gisteravond met voor mij dierbare vrienden, weer hier gaan eten, en oh wat was het lekker, ook hun waren totaal verast, door alles, niets op aan te merken, en we hadden niets hetzelfde, alles verschillend, was echt TOP

Had a lovely meal here with our family yesterday evening. It was our first time taking our children here. They really loved it and they tasted the quality and difference with restaurants they knew. A nice experience for them and they indicated that from now on they really don't want to go to the all ypu can eat tents🤣 But they like this much better It's been a while for us, but the food is so delicious, everything goes together. You can eat there at your leisure and the atmosphere is good. We always eat 3 courses here and you really get your fill. The house amuse is also really delicious and gives that extra something that sets them apart from most restaurants in the area. My son, who wants to become a chef, was even allowed to take a look in the kitchen with the chef. Very nice chef, he was also very friendly to his staff and this ensured that everyone was very comfortable. And you see this in everything. We are huge fans of the restaurant and I really cannot name a negative point.

You leave hungry. Such small portions and for high prices. And not even very good quality. Now my hunger was gone when we received our main course only 2 hours later. We used to like coming here, but not anymore.

Heerlijke gegeten, op de kaart voor ieder wat wils. Helaas het afrekenen duurde wat lang, nadat we de rekening hadden gekregen geen contact meer met de bediening, zelf maar naar het pinapparaat gelopen ( dit was niet de eerste keer, erg jammer is toch vervelend).

Met een groep gedineerd bij Bistro d’Ouwe Leeuw. Bistro d’Ouwe Leeuw is gevestigd in een mooi vooroorlogs pand. Het beschikt over een (overdekt) terras en heeft eigen parkeerplaatsen op het terrein. De bediening is vriendelijk. Het beschikt over een uitgebreide menukaart met zowel vlees, vis als vega. De prijs/kwaliteit verhouding is prima. Voor een avondje tafelen ben je hier aan het goede adres.

Lekker gegeten bavette bleu chaud, de bakwijze was niet gekend maar toch dik in orde. Dessert proeverij viel goed mee. Jong team, doe zo voort.

Een bijzonder gastvrij restaurant, en een goede keuken.

Absolutely delicious food. Probably the best we have eaten anywhere in The Netherlands. Impeccable, friendly service. A nice ambience. Totally recommended. We loved it here.

Geweldige dag gehad bij bistro d’ouwe leeuw, bijna 4 uur daar gezeten en heerlijk gegeten. Bij binnenkomst aardig gegroet door de bediening en gelijk drinken aangeboden gekregen, mooie, uitgebreide kaart met veel keuze ook bekeken. Na wat bedenk tijd hadden we als voorgerecht de gamba al ajillo, en de gamba’s plancha (wat eigenlijk een hoofdgerecht is) genomen. Voor de hoofdgerechten kwam een lekkere amuse met huisgemaakte humus, waar alle lof voor toe te reiken is. Ook heerlijk brood met wat knoflook olie verkregen. Voorgerechten waren heerlijk, waren de saus van de gamba schulpen af aan t likken, goede porties ook. Daarna een wijntje besteld, een mooie uitgebreide wijnkaart voor de vino a campo gegaan, zeer goede keuze. Voor hoofdgerecht lieten we de chef wat kiezen, hij had de kogelbiefstuk voor ons aangeraden. Ondanks dat ik in het begin skeptical was over de keuze, aangezien hij een beetje doorgaans klonk, was het misschien wel de lekkerste biefstuk die ik ooit op had. Dit gepaard met huisgemaakte pesto, een mooie opmaak en een lekkere portie friet, zorgde voor een geweldig hoofdgerecht. Voor het dessert een proeverij en irish koffie, ik had gevraagd om bij de proeverij een kleine tartallette mango toe te voegen, waar naar geluisterd werd, net als vele andere kleine aanpassingen die we konden maken bij ons eten. De desserts waren subliem en zagen er ook nog eens geweldig uit. Verder nog een praatje kunnen maken met de klanten en het personeel en een hele mooie avond eraan overgehouden. De bistro d’ouwe leeuw is een echte aanrader voor heel de zuidwesthoek en noordwest België. Gezellige sfeer gepaard met vriendelijk personeel en geweldig eten zorgt voor een 6 sterren restaurant in mijn ogen. Chapeaux!

Ruime parking ! Vriendelijke ontvangst, verzorgde en correcte bediening. Mooi interieur. Menukaart heeft ruime keuze !i. Lekker en smakelijk eten!! Mijn kalszweriken als voorgerecht : super goed klaar gemaakt en erg lekker krokant. Babette seignant gebakken : in één woord perfect. Echte aanrader.

Wat een blamage. Onze 10 jarige huwelijksdag hadden we qua diner toch anders voorgesteld. Na een belletje konden we terecht. Om 18:00 uur zaten we aan tafel. Vlotjes kwam de bediening die alleraardigst was om het drinken op te nemen. Niet lang daarna werd dit ook gebracht. Na het zien van de menukaart een keuze gemaakt. Eerlijk is eerlijk, mijn tournedos was prima en op een fraai opgemaakt bord opgediend. De mixed grill van mijn vrouw zag er ook prima uit. Echter was er een stuk vlees bij die gewoon rauw was. De bediening liet op zich wachten en geruime tijd zag je niemand dus het melden was lastig. Maar goed we gingen over op het dessert. Ijs beste mensen waar praten we over. Schaaltje paar bolletjes ijs erin wat chocoladesaus erbij of over en slagroom. 45 minuten wachten en er was nog altijd niks?? Ook geen communicatie over dat het om wat voor reden dan ook wat langer duurt. Als het nu afgeladen vol zou zitten dan heb ik er nog deels beeld bij. Er zaten 11 personen buiten. Wanneer ik meldde de rekening te willen kreeg ik de melding dat het dessert met spoed zou komen. Nou dat hoeft niet meer. Niet lang daarna kwam er iemand anders om te zeggen dat het dessert er nu aan komt. Nou dat hoeft niet meer. 2 uur en een kwartier en we zijn één gang opgeschoten. Wij zijn vaker hier geweest en nog nooit zoiets meegemaakt.

Zeer vriendelijke bediening. Het eten prachtig geserveerd en heel lekker. Niet te overmatig. Dit was onze eerste bezoek aan het restaurant. Hier komen we nog terug...

Heerlijk gegeten. Goede kwaliteit en tegen normale prijzen.

Zaterdagavond het aspergemenu in Bistro d’Ouwe Leeuw geproefd. Alleen superlatieven passen hier als omschrijving voor zowel de aspergesoep als het witte goud. Het hoofdgerecht was zonder meer royaal. Als toetje de panna cotta met bosvruchten. Inclusief wijn, water en koffie net boven de 50 euro p/p. Dit wil je gewoon echt niet missen. PS: dit was mijn 5e bezoek. Mijn vorige reviews zijn helaas verdwenen want “overschreven”.

Een echte aanrader, heerlijk gegeten in een prachtig restaurant met topbediening.
