What a terrible owner. Not hospitable at all. When customers sat down at a table, they were simply sent away because they were only there for a drink. He didn't think that was right; lunch had to be had, and then you were allowed to stay. It was 1:30 in the afternoon. What a boor of a man. Never again.

Wow. This place deserves a review. Beautiful terrace. Top location. But an owner who indiscriminately sends people away from the terrace at 2:00 PM if they aren't coming for lunch. Bizarre.

Brasserie Vrijthof 9 is located in Maastricht's city center and is very well connected to the public transport network. It's also easily accessible on foot and by bicycle. For those arriving by car, paid parking is available in the surrounding parking garages. The brasserie offers a large number of indoor and outdoor seats. The decor is modern and functional, with tables spaced close together. The service staff was friendly, efficient, and at least bilingual. The menu offers a wide selection of dishes. The wait time from ordering to serving was short. The food was very refined, delicious, and simply scrumptious! Food prices are mid-range, while drinks are on the higher end. The restrooms were clean. I highly recommend Brasserie Vrijthof 9.

Had lunch with friends this afternoon; there was a caterpillar in my scampi salad, so I politely reported it. The wait staff indicated they would pass it on but offered no further apologies. We paid the bill, but you won't see us back here!

Today, the four of us picked out a spot on the terrace on the recommendation of the bald man. He did ask us to bring our own cushions from other chairs so we could sit dry. (Okay, it can be busy... but the man didn't offer to do this for us. Subsequently, we ordered 2 cappuccinos, bitter lemon, and a hot chocolate with whipped cream. The coffee came with 2 chocolates. That is thoughtful. But unfortunately, these were past their expiration date; this can happen, and we pointed out to a colleague that they were past their expiration date. (He said he would pass this on to the boss.) Later, we ordered nachos to share; these had a distinctive taste. But okay, that can happen when tastes differ. However, after seeing the date and reading previous reviews, you do start to have doubts about the quality of the food. At the end, we wanted to pay, and the bald man told a lady in our party that she should put the salt and pepper shakers on the table first. (Again, something he didn't feel like doing himself... no service.) Because of that, we pointed out to the man the chocolate that was past its expiration date. That it is not polite to serve that in a hospitality establishment. To this, the bald man said man: yes that’s possible, so we still have a whole box. Downright a very antisocial and arrogant man; who does not treat his customers decently. Also the last time for us: Vrijthof 9. ADVISE AGAINST SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE. Spend your money and time at other hospitality establishments that do deserve it and treat customers decently.

One of many restaurants in the Vrijthof, but why choose this one? It looks very inviting, and the beer and wine selection is excellent. The carpaccio and tomato soup were delicious, the beef fillet steak with pepper sauce was good, and the fries with mayo were unbeatable. My wife also enjoyed the club sandwich. The terrace was packed during our visit, but this didn't affect the excellent service; everything was very professional. We'd gladly come again!

We ate here for the first time yesterday. The terrace was beautiful and well-maintained. The menu had a wide selection of food and drinks. We chose the satay, and it was truly delicious! People under 18 are served alcohol while others who are also under 18 do not receive any; I find this very unfair. Furthermore, I find a waiter here extremely grumpy, and this ruins the atmosphere and my day.

The worst experience I have ever had; please do not go here. Yesterday, my husband and I went to eat at this restaurant with our two children. We already thought it was strange that all the other bars were full except for this one, but we decided to go inside anyway. They seated us inside, right across from the kitchen. After waiting for 45 minutes, we finally received our food. After just a few bites, my husband and I noticed that something was wrong. The food smelled strange and had a sour, rotten taste when we tasted it. At that moment, we saw one of the cooks, a bald man with glasses, drop a piece of cooked meat on the floor while he was preparing another dish. He looked around and then placed it back on the plate to serve. As if that wasn't enough, we had to listen to him the whole time while he made slimy throat noises, as if he might drop something on a plate at any moment. When we told the owner—a bald man with crooked teeth—that the food was spoiled, he looked at us with disgust and said: “If you aren’t going to eat it, that’s not my problem.” He took our bill, threw it on the table, and yelled that we had to pay because our children were bothering him and he was losing customers because of us. Terrible service, spoiled food, and zero respect. After “eating” at this place, we had to go to the doctor because of food poisoning. Now we understand why there was hardly anyone there. We will never come back here again. Don’t go here if you want to end up like this.

The service is awful. Young girls are running around like crazy and being bossed around by a large, bald man. This man himself is very unfriendly, at best antisocial and rude. If you ask questions about the dishes, you're yelled at. Then you wait over an hour for your food. Definitely not recommended.

We made a reservation here in advance for dinner with a large group. It went perfectly. The food was good, we were able to sit comfortably together, and everything was arranged quickly. Highly recommended!

We ordered an omelet, which was a bit bland, but tastes differ, until my table companion suddenly found a hair in her mouth when she took a bite. Too bad, but it happens. We mentioned this to the owner, who, as mentioned here, responded in his own very unfriendly way. His chefs had short hair, so they couldn't do anything about it. When I pointed out that we hadn't put the hair in and that an apology, "sorry for you," would also be a good response, he said he could, but he didn't. The terrace location is great, but otherwise, not recommended.

Passing through town during the Christmas market season, we stopped at this bar; it was nice. The cocktails were a bit pricey, but that's to be expected.

When I was paying, he started arguing about the burger, saying it was red from the spices, and ignored the fact that raw and cooked tastes different. He then walked away with a cynical "Happy Holidays." What a nasty guy. And as I've read in other reviews, it's not the first time he's acted like this.

Tasteless food. Perhaps the spare ribs are good, because I saw almost everyone ordering them. That's probably the only good thing, right? My fish was absolutely unappetizing, and my waffle was still raw inside. The price-quality ratio is completely off! And the lady (hostess?) who showed the guests to a table could be a bit friendlier. I had reserved a table many weeks in advance, and when I arrived, there was initially only one of those high tables where you have to hoist yourself very uncomfortably onto a high stool. After much insistence, the lady finally showed me to a regular table.

I can't comment on the food; we didn't get around to it. It was an unpleasant experience. My friend and I had made reservations and were looking forward to a pleasant dinner. We arrived half an hour early, but were able to have a drink at a table near the bar. The atmosphere was tense, and the music was too loud. Then a young waiter, who clearly still had to learn, dropped a tray laden with glasses on the floor. The unfriendly manager didn't ask if the young man was injured but treated him unsympathetically, to say the least. We weren't impressed. We asked if we could have a quieter table at the back of the restaurant; but that wasn't possible! We had made reservations and already had our drinks! My friend confronted the manager, but he reacted unsympathetically and unfriendly to our customers. We decided to eat elsewhere. My friend paid for our drinks (which we hadn't really enjoyed) and, to my regret, gave a 2-euro tip. The boss returned with the change and pressed it unkindly into my friend's hand. "We won't be going there again; there are plenty of other options. Imagine if it were your boss."

The owner was very friendly upon arrival, but after a tray of drinks fell on the floor, the atmosphere changed. He was very verbally abusive towards the staff, right in the middle of all the guests. He even threw a wet tea towel at the staff. The staff were crying. The food (tuna steak) was very dry. I returned it, with the owner's comment, "That can go with it too." I went to Vrijthof 9 for lunch yesterday, but it was absolutely disgusting! The bread was so dry and disgusting that it fell apart, almost moldy. The food was put on the table cold. Speaking of the staff, they don't even ask if everything was to your liking; they're on their phones and don't even smile. And if that wasn't enough, I also got food poisoning here and have been vomiting all day today and have had a massive stomach ache. Definitely not worth repeating, and it turns out this isn't the first time this place has been perceived as so disgusting, with expired food being served, so do yourself a favor and stay away.

The omelet was very well filled and the bread underneath was delicious. Baguette with warm ham was fine; it could have been a bit warmer, but it was still manageable. Recommended. Nice patio. The owner isn't good at math: a small weizen (0.3L) costs €6, a large weizen (0.5L) costs €11. (The price of the large wasn't on the menu either.) When I asked the owner how many weizen he'd consumed when he made this calculation, he replied: None.

Yesterday I had a lovely day out in Maastricht and wanted to get a drink here. I ordered a hot chocolate with whipped cream. After taking a generous sip, I threw up. The chocolate milk was so far past its sell-by date that I actually got sick. I got a new one, which my partner drank because I skipped it after the sip that tasted like corpse. I did get an apology that sounded like a "I have to." I certainly won't be going back. I was really shocked. I really don't think it's okay, firstly, to sell a product so far past its sell-by date that it makes your customers sick, and secondly, how you're treated afterward. No, I'm really not okay with it.

Ik was met een groepje van 4 personen bij Vrijthof 9, dus naast jullie. Het was de avond van André Rieu. We zaten vrij dichtbij het plein en hadden een eet arrangement erbij. Vanaf het begin tot het einde van de avond zaten er een stel jonge meiden achter ons, vrijwel stoel aan stoel. De hele avond luidruchtig en veel drank ging erin.. Dus gaat gepaard met veel toiletbezoek. Veel mensen klaagden over hun luidruchtig gedrag. Vindt het onbegrijpelijk dat niemand van jullie eigen terras er niet heen kwam om ze aan te spreken. Er kwam zelfs een bericht op het scherm met de mededeling om stil te zijn. Dit heb ik nog nooit meegemaakt. Kortom onze avond was verpest! Via via heb ik ook gehoord dat er veel jong grut bij jullie zit, dit is geen probleem maar voor evenementen zoals dit moet er wel op worden gehandhaafd…

Drikkevarer kunne da heldigvis ikke ødelægges. Burgeren er den mest forfærdelige vi endnu har prøvet. Lige før MC D overhaler!

Last Saturday we had a great meal at Vrijthof 9. Without making a reservation we looked for a place to eat and drink during lunch. The food was good, the service was excellent and despite a full terrace the food was quickly on the table.

Au niveau des boissons c’était ok, pareil pour le service. Par contre… Nous avons pris la planche « Apéritif mixed » à 19€ Ne prenez pas ça !! Un carpaccio vraiment pas bon, 2 scampis pas cuits, 2 tranches de melon, et deux tranches toutes fines de saumon. Très déçus !!

Nice atmosphere during Maastricht's Mooiste on the Vrijthof today; the riders were cheered on by the people on the terraces and by the Samba band that was playing rousing rhythms across the street. Until the owner of Vrijthof 9 felt the need to thunder across the street and start shouting at the band to stop and leave; the band members initially seemed surprised by the sudden verbal violence, but when the man also became physically aggressive, the fun was clearly over for them. What an absurdly aggressive reaction from that man. And he calls himself a 'host'? Vrijthof 9, don't go there!

This is a super place for breakfast. We had fantastic service and the quality of the food was outstanding. Best value for money. Do not miss this great brasserie! We wouden nog graag een borrelplank, hij zei ons kan wat langer duren want meerdere mensen hebben die besteld, prima is niet erg. Delicious food for reasonable price

Wij waren met een groep van 10 personen waaronder 2 jongere kinderen. We werden vriendelijk ontvangen. 1 van de kinderen had liever iets wat niet op de dinerkaart stond, maar wel op de lunchkaart. Dit was na overleg met de keuken geen probleem. Eten was heerlijk en personeel heel vriendelijk. We hebben een heerlijke avond en goede ervaring gehad.

Too bad, we have eaten here more often in recent years, but it has really gone downhill. It was certainly not busy on a Tuesday evening and we were sitting next to the door to the outside terrace, but the head waitress was so busy typing on her mobile that she did not take the time to come and take the order for a hot meal. It really took an embarrassingly long time. She kept walking past our table without looking up from her mobile. So it immediately felt uncomfortable and not hospitable. The spare ribs had gone downhill in quality. Grilled much too dark and therefore very dry with barbecue sauce from a bottle. Too small a plate for spare ribs. If you serve two pieces of ribs stacked on top of each other, there should be room left to put the bones down, so that you do not have to stack them over your own salad. When paying, we had to wait a long time again, because the same waitress had to be called for that, but was too busy chatting on the terrace. So for the time being, not worth repeating.

Even though the staff was friendly, the food was really disappointing, it is not often that you leave the food and drinks behind, but even the blond beer tasted as if it had gone through a pipe that had not been flushed for 100 years and the chicken tasted as if it had been pre-cut in Thailand a week ago, really gross. A smile is free, but not at Vrijthof 9. What a mockery. From the moment we walked in, it became clear that customer service is not a priority here. No greeting, no smile, nothing. The staff seemed to have no interest in it at all. After waiting forever I was finally able to place an order. The beer? Not even a full glass. As if we had to be happy with what we got. And a kind word or a little help? Forget it. It also took far too long for the drinks to arrive, and when they finally did, they were placed on the table without any interest. It seems like they think you have to beg for a little service here. No atmosphere, no hospitality and absolutely no reason to ever come back here. Hopeless restaurant. A big disappointment for us during our weekend away.

Op een doordeweekse avond bezocht ik Vrijthof 9 in Maastricht, een restaurant met een prachtige ligging aan het iconische Vrijthof. Helaas bleek al snel dat de beleving hier niet in lijn was met de toplocatie. De grootste tegenvaller? De bediening. Ondanks het geringe aantal gasten leek het personeel vooral met zichzelf bezig. Ze stonden lachend en geintjes makend aan de bar, met de rug naar de gasten toe. Bestellen? Dat kon pas nadat gasten zelf maar opstonden om hen te benaderen. Dit gebrek aan aandacht en service is simpelweg onacceptabel voor een restaurant dat zichzelf als een kwaliteitszaak profileert. Ook het eten viel tegen. De entrecote was pezig en verre van mals, wat de eetervaring niet verbeterde. Voor de prijs die je hier betaalt, mag je op zijn minst een goed stuk vlees en een beetje zorg in de bereiding verwachten. Hoewel de sfeer en locatie van Vrijthof 9 veelbelovend zijn, laat de uitvoering zwaar te wensen over. Service zou een restaurantbezoek aangenaam moeten maken, niet frustrerend. Een teleurstelling, en zeker geen plek waar ik snel zal terugkeren.

Een van de vele terrassen aan het Vrijthof. Alleen nog een enkele bus die voorlangs rijdt, maar geen autoverkeer meer: een hele verbetering. Wij aten er verrukkelijke vlaai van bakker Peter Lemmens. Comfortabele rotan stoelen met dikke kussens. Prima service.
