Good karaoke, but the equipment was limited. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was excellent. Also suitable for tall people.

Cool place with some local history to it. It used to be the Bijstand which had a welcoming atmosphere to all kinds of misfits. The Opstand has a cleaner look but is just as welcoming. Coffee is good, and there's a range of games available, organised activities regularly and locally brewed beers along others are served. They have delicious appetizers like their vegan bitterballen.

Kafe de Bijstand has become the Uprising. Fresher and still that beautiful 'pipe drawer' (long and narrow). Friendly staff for everyone, but I do miss the dark wall decoration with different bands on it. Walk by or even better, go inside the van Welderenstraat.

Wondering whether the transformation from 'Kollektief Kafee Bijstand' to 'De Opstand' would mean that the familiar atmosphere of the past had disappeared (as often happens during renovations), I recently visited the café, with the intention of having a cup of coffee. to drink the wrong drink while absorbing the atmosphere. My visit turned out differently: mainly a lot longer than intended. What a surprise! The interior looks fresh but not cold, neat but not frumpy and very tasteful in terms of the chosen colors and materials. A cozy seating area has been created at the back with many plants on the ceiling, where daylight enters through a skylight. The idea of ​​the different lampshades above the bar has been retained, but the old-fashioned pig bladder lampshades have made way for fabric lampshades with motifs and colors from the 1970s. Another positive change is the range of various vegetarian and vegan snacks, of which I chose the 'Thai green curry bites' to accompany the (completely unexpected) alcohol consumed. They were delicious. Some nice conversations with the friendly bar staff and three specialty beers (so no latte!) and then I returned home with a good feeling. Almost a shame that I no longer live in Nijmegen!
