A nice old style bar. With very efficient but abrupt servers. I ordered a low alcohol beer and got looked down at because of it. I noticed them do this to a senior couple too. It is not the experience you want. The atmosphere between guests was great.

Not a place I'd recommend for tourists who don't speak much English. One day they treated us well, the next they treated us like dogs, with zero patience and no cooperation whatsoever, even mocking us. Anyway, I guess it's just the people; we just happened to get the odd one out that day. Otherwise, it was fine.

Very rude and obnoxious waiter. We stopped here and needed to use to restroom. The waiter was very unpolite and ordered us to leave. When we said we were willing to order something, he said they were too busy and wouldn't serve us. There are thousands of other places in Amsterdam, I would definitely avoid this one.

Extremely hostile environment. I would recommend this place to someone I don't like. Very scammy. My friend and I needed to use the bathroom urgently, so I asked at the bar. They said no unless you order something. And were pretty aggressive about it. I was clear that we weren't going to drink anything, but they kept pressuring. Sure--I asked for a Heineken and they only offered their larger sized glasses (I didn't realize until after). 5,50 for something neither of us is going to drink as we were headed on a boat tour next. Then, when I get to the WC, there is a sign on the door that says 1 EUR for non-customers! So I overpaid by 4,50 because in the end, my friend didn't feel comfortable using it at all with the atmosphere. And he was pressuring her to get something as well.

They were incredibly rude at this place.. I went in for a drink but went to the toilet first.. they were shouting and screaming at me.. I got my drink.. they made me sit down in front of the whole restaurant.. very rude and disrespectful.. lucky I didn’t smack the old man in the face..

Always our starting point for a pub crawl through Amsterdam is the Martelaarsgracht. It's a lot of fun.

Just popped in for a coffee on our last morning in Amsterdam. Good quality coffee in a nice old pub in the old part of town. Couldn't get anymore European if you tried.

Stopped for lunch. Before heading to the train station. Ask the board tender if we could bring our luggage in. He said no problems shut down when the waitress showed up. She said whose luggage is that when I told her it was mine. She said that was going to be a problem. Once I looked at the menu and saw how sparse their offerings were, I looked at my wife and said, I don't think we need the attitude, let's find somewhere else when we got up. I nodded to the woman and said we're going to find somewhere else. Thank you, she referred perfect. I think she was very happy for us to leave. Thank you, national.

Oldest bar in Amsterdam. The bartender was perfectly brash and the server was lovely. We had the meatballs and cheese tray which was fabulous. Sit outside on the sidewalk and was completely moved by the energy of all the beautiful people of Amsterdam.

It’s a charming and cozy café, perfect for a tired traveler looking for tea and a quick snack. 🤩 The place offers a lovely view and is conveniently located near the train station. 😍 We ordered the Dutch cheese, which was delicious but quite a large portion, so unfortunately we couldn’t finish it and the remaining wasn’t packed for us to take away.🤨

They have such a volume of work that they don't even look for a table! As soon as I entered, they sent me to McDonalds!! Unpretentious!!!

We wanted to use the restroom because the kid had to go to the toilet urgently, but the bartender wouldn't let us. I will never go through that door again, and I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends.

Great place to visit, chat along with the bartenders and locals whilst having a nice drink in between visits. Came here a couple of times during the visit and would recommend for anyone to stop for at least a drink and a chat

Awesome. That old school "bruin cafe" experience in what's, supposedly, the oldest pub in Amsterdam. Whether it is, or not, a great place. We went there twice to sit outside, enjoy a drink and do some people watching. Always something to see outside, staff is great, friendly, they dress the part as well. Recommended!

Very unpleasant waiter, rude attitude

Not a good place for tourists, racist. I'm just realizing they wouldn't give me food. I had a beer there and regretted the bad experience of going in. The gray-haired man at the bar was very unpleasant and rude. Not just with words, but also with his hand gestures. Don't go there if you don't want a disgruntled and disheartened staff to ruin your day. There are plenty of other places that will welcome you with open arms and you won't regret spending your money.

Very rude barman: “are you not raised well” excuse me? This barman has a problem, i have no clue what it is. I come over more places nearby, everything around is friendly, but this guy and the workers there, so rude.

I was on my holidays and the man behind the bar was horrible. He came over and told the group I was with that we must order more drinks. The bar was empty. If I could give 0 stars I would.

After a long day of travel, we stopped in for some much-needed food and ordered the classic Dutch pancakes and coffee. The food was good—warm, satisfying, and hit the spot—but not particularly memorable. What stood out, however, was the excellent service. The staff were friendly, attentive, and easy to chat with, making us feel right at home. It’s a great spot to relax, enjoy a drink, and take in the street scene outside. Whether you're people-watching on the terrace or having a casual conversation with the bar staff inside, the welcoming atmosphere makes it worth a visit.

I'm giving it one star because it's not possible to give it a zero. A terrible experience, very, very bad service, rude people, and it's also very expensive. We ordered a couple of bottles of water and took three to the bathroom. They treated us horribly, saying we couldn't go in and that we had to pay an extra euro per person. When we left, they laughed at us and made fun of us.

The atmosphere and service were very nice. The prices were very reasonable. If you want to drink something in a nice atmosphere in Amsterdam, I would say don't bother looking for another place.

Ordered with my family some plates: tomato soup which came straight out of the microwave with soup powder. Burger with fries which tasted like I would not be even able to describe in words. Avoid this place, unless you like bad food and throwing your money away

Don’t go here, tourist trap prices! I ordered a large apple bandit beer for over €12, one beer! Even for two beers it would have been too expensive. I think it is downright antisocial to ask such prices. In New York I even paid less for a beer

We always had breakfast here, a really quiet atmosphere, right close to Amsterdam's central station. I can highly recommend the ham sandwiches and the mini pancakes.

This is our go to place as soon as we arrive in Amsterdam. Service is outstanding and super friendly. The atmosphere always makes you feel welcome and wanted. Ideally situated opposite Amsterdam Centraal. Oh and the Affligem Blond is to die for…if at nearly 7% it’s not exactly a session beer 😂

Atypical and "authentic" place a few steps from the Central Station. Don't hesitate to have a portion of apple pie / Chantilly and a coffee ☕️: it is certainly worth that of another much more famous place! Attentive and pleasant service.

We always go there during our stays in Amsterdam and then every day. We love the atmosphere of the old café there and the really friendly gentlemen and the young lady who work there. We will always come back.

01.2025 We were here twice. On the first evening the team was better, friendlier. The Irish coffee was great. The Amstel Bock is delicious. The Borrelplank with Kaas&Worst was great. On the second day the waiters were a bit grumpy at first, but they improved. But. The bitterballen mix was terrible Go to Majestics and eat them there.

One of my favourite bars where you can sit outside and watch all the people walking and biking near Central Station. A small bar inside with sand on the floor like the old days. It even has original Delft tiles around the fireplace. Good toasty sandwiches and drink selections. Thw friendly staff makes you feel welcome.
