Great place to chill with a beer

Everyone who worked here was just the kindest people you could think of. My friend wasn't feeling well and they took care of us like family. Wow! Thank you so so much 🩵

got harassed by some random man who wanted to prevent me from going to the appropriate restroom for me, will never visit again. this place is most definitely not lgbt friendly

A little dingy inside but a great outdoor terrace right on the canal! Great space for people watching and enjoying a cold beer on a hot day. The vaasje of Amstel was only €3.40 which is the cheapest I’ve seen this close to Centraal. Really friendly server and fantastic location. Will be back for a cheap brew and beautiful view

Terrible service, I can’t recommend.

My girlfriend and I just left this place moments ago. Although the bartender was nice and talked about how he loves everyone, when he walked away a local man with a bald head became very threatening. I couldn’t hear him because of the volume of the music, so I decided to walk closer to be polite and try to entertain what he was saying. He went on and on about how I disrespected him and said if he was a younger man he would have ended my life. I went back to my seat and tried to ignore him but he kept yelling at us. He then asked us our names and said he was putting a gypsy curse on us. He then got up and started walking towards us. We felt trapped and considered leaving without paying for our own safety. Eventually the bartender came back from wherever he was and we were able to cash out and leave before he made whatever move he was planning. Worst experience we have had while here in Amsterdam. Stay away from this place. It’s not safe. Atmosphere

What a boozer. Great night after going for a quiet cigar on my own. Invited in by Eileen and family. Made pals with locals and a couple of newly arrived Scottish lads. Stayed out way later than intended but well worth it. Proper warm and friendly. Can’t recommend enough!

Good beer, friendly staff and cute dogs

I give it 5 stars. It is not a place for your typical tourist. This is a drinking hole for the locals, they get together, come and go. Which adds to the charm. So it feels dutch in an area that is full of tourists. The beer and food snacks were great. The barman is a sweet guy. If you wanna just sit and sip a beer with the locals this is the place. You can sit outside or inside. Great drinking ambiance.

We had a lot of fun, the staff have been very friendly. We will definitely be back.

€16 for two pints of Heineken, felt discriminate against tourists as it has been described as a 'local' drinking spot. So much cheaper, even in tourist traps. Avoid at all costs.

We walked out of a place that tried to charge us €17 for 2 hot drinks and we came to this place and decided to stop, we was chatting to the lady behind the bar and told her this in the conversation and she said she was ashamed and not to have a bad view on the city and how not everyone here is going to try and rip you off, she said the tea was on her and what a lovely gesture that was, we will definitely visit again when we come back to Amsterdam, shame we didn't find this place on the first day.

I visited Amsterdam last December, the weather was freezing so I decided to grab a beer. I walked into the first pub I saw and I'm so glad it was Schumich Café. Had a great chat with the staff, and even got to meet a local artist and his dog. Everyone was very friendly, the atmosphere was wonderful and the beer was good. Looking forward to visiting again <3

This is a great place. Assan is a super-friendly bartender. Great place, not touristy. We keep going back.

Came in for a quick coffee and it was great. The staff were great and welcoming and it has an amazing view.

Me and my friend loved it here, it's been quite some time since we were here, July last year wasn't our exact dates it's just the only date that TripAdvisor would let me put in for some reason. I just felt the need to write a review due to some of the reviews I have read which wasn't the case for us at all. We was made to feel very welcome, we had a great day and night in here, met some lovely locals. Eileen and one of her locals/friend Willie gave us great conversation, good laughs and a great time. We introduced her to our favorite drink (baileys and Jameson) which luckily for us she was well stocked up with! I witnessed Eileen looking after a couple of young stray lads who had got lost from their group, if my son was ever to go to Amsterdam with a group of friends and he got lost I would definitely tell him to head here. Thanks for your hospitality Eileen! Hopefully we will make it back some day soon. So glad your business survived the lockdowns, would've been a shame to see one of the oldest bars in Amsterdam dissolve this way. Keep on keeping on!

Wondered in looking for a quick drink - ended up staying nearly two hours. Great man behind the bar, friendly atmosphere even with only a few people in and a history you could sense I look forward to my next visit greatly

Es ist eher eine Eckkneipe, die auch Café anbieten. Aber der schmeckt Erstaunlicherweise sehr gut. Die Lage ist gut. Und im Innenraum und WC war es sehr sauber. Und die Thekenkraft sehr nett. Nur keine abschließbaren Klotüren. Da sollte man aufpassen 😁 Aber bei jedem Besuch in Amsterdam, sollte man dort hingehen und sich einen genehmigen.

We took two beers, 3.80 each on the menu but when I had to pay the total bill was 10 euro. I asked for an explanation but the owner told me that the menu was old. So why are they still on the tables? Plus. One the beer had some things inside and I asked for a new one, he went nuts and after telling me a lot of useless things gave me a new beer. I'm very disappointed about this treatment. Never be back.

Echt Amsterdams café! Super gastvrij. Boven de bar prijkt “Vergeet hier je zorgen”. En zo is het! Als PSV familie vonden wij de Ajax poster uit ‘71/‘72 wel jammer, maar ja. 😉

Eine Empfehlung für jeder der eine nette Kneipe in Amsterdam besuchen möchte wo es ein gutes Bier gibt, super Bedienung und stimmungsvolle Musik dazu. Waren mit eine Gruppe von 20 Personen da und hatten sehr viel Spaß

Such a great experience, my couple and I were there when there was a birthday party. Despite we were not related to the celebration, we felt included. Good vibes, good snacks and beer. There's a feeling of being in an always lovely and friendly place. I felt in love with Amsterdam, and Schumich Café was the topping on the cake. Just don't miss it!!!

We stumbled into this little cafe/bar, We were glad we did. Friendly place. We had lots of laugh in this little gem sure made us feel welcomed. Staff there Uncle and Nephew served us. They have a picture of this guy that looks like Keith Richards poster on the wall. I said to the Bartender is that Keith Richards he laughed no but he says he does a few gigs here and maybe we will get to see him. Sure enough he walked in just for a few. We enjoyed this gem we went back the second time. When we came back the second it felt like we were family. We got warm welcome hugs.

Lovely place for a drink by the canal. One man behind the bar and he did a perfect job! Drinks came out quickly and always took our order with a smile, really friendly guy. Would definitely recommend and come here again during my stay :) also affordable prices, 4euro for a wine! Cheaper than london

El mejor lugar de Amsterdam, un café bar con una atención única, un diamante en plena ciudad al que hay que visitar obligados. La cordialidad y cariño es inigualable. Con mi marido vivimos un momento muy lindo y acogedor.

Friendly and skilled owner. Business already in third generation. Clean interieur, although dark. Which only adds to the feeling of this bar.

Absoluter Pflicht-Besuch bei jedem Trip nach Amsterdam auf ein frisches Amstel vom Fass. Ich mag den Pub und das Ambiente. Er ist sehr zentral gelegen und trotzdem eher von Leuten aus Amsterdam frequentiert. Ich habe immer tolle Gespräche geführt und eine tolle Zeit gehabt. Preislich vollkommen okay, 0.5L vom Fass kosten 6€. Nur Barzahlung. Paar kleine Snacks, und wenn es nur ein paar Nüsse sind, wären toll. Dann trinke ich auch mehr ;-) Bis zum nächsten Mal!

What a wonderful bar with wonderful people running it and going to it. We just wanted to find a place to have a beer for not too much money and not too much noise and ended up hearing the most beautiful stories and meeting the people behind it. Eileen the Barkeeper is a True Icon, a wonderful woman with some of the best energies I’ve ever encountered at random. Thank you for a more wonderful evening than I would have imagined. I will be returning! <3
