Perfect stop on my bike tour towards Aalten and Bredevoort 🚲 Stegers is right in the middle and looked very inviting even as I cycled past. Although it was busy, the seating was comfortable with plenty of space between guests. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive. ❤️ After a few kilometers on my bike, I didn't need anything fancy: fries with mayo and ketchup, a latte macchiato, and a Coke. 😄🍟☕ Everything was delicious and just what I needed for my little break. I felt completely at ease and would definitely stop there again on my next bike tour through Aalten. 🚲

Great Snackbar - good vibes, good snacks, nice people

It is a pleasure to be at Stegers in Aalten. We had dinner on the terrace there, amidst a lively atmosphere. I chose a schnitzel with gypsy sauce. The schnitzel was a good size and perfectly cooked. My wife chose salmon, a beautiful fillet served separately so it wasn't swimming in it and you could add it as needed. She was also very pleased with the taste. There were plenty of side dishes, and even the vegetables, which can sometimes be overcooked, were still nicely al dente. Stegers employs good staff, customer-oriented and friendly. The atmosphere on the terrace was truly village-like – everyone knows everyone, wonderfully relaxed. In short, a restaurant to recommend.

Since the new owners took over, the snack bar has gone downhill terribly. In the past, a meatball sandwich was actually a meatball sandwich and very tasty. Now they have small things that are cold, very greasy, and inedible (factory meatballs). You order a salad. It just gets dumped into a chip container with a lid—yes, indeed, a chip container too. Pff. This is just so terrible too. The moths are now eating it up in the bin. But what I find worst of all is that when you report it, they do absolutely nothing about it. Such a shame. I miss the old Stegers enormously. Friendly and helpful to the customer. There were always solutions. No more food from the snack bar of this company for me.

It was a great success. Haven't eaten this well in ages. Everything was delicious. The soup, the meat, the vegetables, and the desserts. We have been there before and will definitely come back often if it stays this good.

It was accidentally overlooked that I eat gluten-free, but the staff picked it up incredibly quickly and were very helpful. I could tell they knew what they were talking about and acted accordingly. So, I had a delicious meal at Stegers!! Thank you for this, and I will definitely be back!

Stopped with a group from the cycling club for lunch on the terrace...great fried eggs and omelet!

The last time I was here, the restaurant mostly only had croquette or schnitzel menus, nothing else special. If I want a croquette or schnitzel, I go to a snack bar, not a restaurant 😂. The waiter didn't seem to be having a good day either. Antisocial, slow, and it took ages before he asked us what we wanted to drink. We skipped it and went to Krul. At least there they had proper dishes and not snack bar food with a sandwich and some lettuce 😂😂

Had a delicious meal yesterday. The spareribs were delicious and the rump steak was cooked exactly as I requested. And, old-fashioned style, a bowl of fries, roasted potatoes, salad, and fresh vegetables. Friendly hosts.

We had a lovely time sitting on the terrace and received friendly service; the service was good. The food was fine, the asparagus soup with salmon was top-notch. The schnitzel with mushroom sauce was good; my advice is to serve the sauce separately on the side instead of pouring it over the dish, as that was too much. The carpaccio was good and beautifully thinly sliced; my tip is to finely chop the sun-dried tomatoes and distribute them instead of serving the pieces on top whole. The spareribs were fine and the side dishes were great. So all in all, a great place☺️, good food and very friendly staff.👍

Stegers used to be great! Now it's a disaster!! And they do nothing about complaints!! Review of the Stegers snack bar. Some items that are available in the restaurant can also be ordered in the snack bar. I ordered a steak and only discovered upon arriving home that it was incredibly raw and cold. The fried mushrooms I ordered and paid for were also missing! Filed a complaint with Stegers. But they are not taking up the complaint. The previous owners really cared about the business, which was doing well back then and always had good food. Since the new owners took over, things have gone downhill fast there. What a shame!

Had a really 'old-fashioned' delicious meal. First drinks with bread & spreads and bitterballen. Then asparagus soup, a main course with fries, roasted potatoes, various hot vegetables, fresh fruit, and dessert and/or coffee afterwards. Nice location, relaxed service.

We had a delicious meal here and the food was very good. My granddaughter wants to eat out here more often! The staff even joined in our guessing game. It was a lovely time.

We had a delicious and enjoyable meal at Stegers! There were eight of us, and we all had a very tasty main course. I went for the schnitzel, which really suits Stegers. Luckily, I could now choose the smaller version instead of the 300g one. It came with tasty vegetables and delicious potatoes. Once the fries were finished, they were quickly added to our plate. We sat in the conservatory and were served in a friendly and hospitable manner.

Super friendly service, good food. We'll gladly come again.

On Thursday, I got 2 schnitzels, 2 fries, and 1 container of hunter's sauce from the cafeteria. €33. Seriously? If it's good, you'll forget the price. But... The schnitzel was greasy and tasteless, we threw away the sauce; it tasted like soapy water, and the fries were overcooked, but that's about it. Bland fries. We won't be back.

Too expensive, and all the good staff are leaving, and why? I only hear complaints from everywhere.

It was honestly not good. There was a strawberry and a kiwi on my cordon bleu?! The chicken was super dry, the schnitzel seemed to be swimming in butter...

We all opted for the three-course menu. The food was delicious. It was great that, in addition to the delicious fried potatoes and fries, salad and vegetables were also served. The schnitzels were generously doused with sauce. A bit too much, actually. It would have been better to offer the sauce in a jug. That way, everyone could decide how much they wanted.

A wonderful, pleasant, and cozy place to just sit down, have lunch, or grab a bite to eat. Several options are available, but each has its own unique character, and this one is definitely not to be missed!

Stegers still has a kind of old-fashioned charm 😀 A wide selection on the menu, and certainly enough on your plate or in the accompanying bowls. This restaurant, which also has a separate snack bar, is a household name in our village, and who doesn't know it? ☺️🤗 We hope they'll be the face of the Markt for years to come, with their charming building and terrace 😀 Review updated on September 9, 2025: Unfortunately, they were taken over in 2025, and things haven't stayed the same since. The quality and flavors aren't as good as before, and it's clearly cheap! 😞 I've updated the stars based on my current opinion as of September 2025.

I had to wait and see whether it would still be that good after the takeover, but it was really great!

A quick review specifically about the cafeteria/snack bar, since it's really been a mess since the takeover. Where a plain schnitzel used to cost around €9.00 (I don't remember the exact amount), it's now suddenly €14.00. At the snack bar... The sauce is, of course, and rightly so, even more expensive, but it shows that the new bosses want nothing more than to use the customer as a cash cow. The meatballs have also been a disaster since the takeover, and the homemade fried potatoes, unless they're back now, are also no longer available. All in all, there's nothing left of Snackbar Stegers' original identity, and well, after all these years of enjoying it, I'm done with it. If I do go to the snack bar, it'll probably be for a croquette and fries at most, but I can get those anywhere in Aalten. What are we doing? I thought it would be helpful to mention this, so that people who order by phone don't suddenly encounter surprises at checkout.

Got food from the cafeteria. The schnitzel looked like it had been microwaved. What a dumpling, absolutely disgusting. Not going back.

The food is traditionally good! You get a lot of extras with your main course. Something I think is appropriate, but you rarely see it these days. Highly recommended! Also, very friendly and welcoming staff!!

Best restaurant in Aalten and the surrounding area👍👌 The main courses are served with all sorts of side dishes, such as fried potatoes, warm vegetable salad, fresh fruit, fries, etc. Eating out the way it should be, and all included in the price. Many restaurants could learn from this. Stegers, keep it up😁😁😁 The price-quality ratio is fantastic!

We went for dinner tonight; we've been coming here for years. It was always good! And the service was great. After tonight, we can't say that anymore. Long wait. Had to ask for drinks or the menu for dinner. It was raining, and there was no covered area for smoking. So we stood right outside the door. We were turned away and given no option. Rude staff. They won't see us again. It's a shame they came several times a month. Things certainly haven't improved since the takeover.

It is really good food, great service, and very fair prices

We have been ordering here for about 26 years, unfortunately the quality has deteriorated after the takeover. A crying shame! The fried potatoes have been replaced by cheaper slices, seasoned and prepared differently. The spareribs are tasteless, the schnitzel drier and without lemon. We have now found a good replacement, Vivaldi. But we really continue to miss the delicious creamy potatoes! I also do not really understand why you should change such successes. I would rather pay 2 euros more per container than pay the same for pre-packaged slices. A real shame.

We will definitely come back again.

For 23 years we have been picking up orders from Stegers or going out for a nice meal. Nice atmosphere and always good food. Today we ordered food from Stegers and the new owner. Crazy about Stegers spareribs, ordered these. They were very thickly fleshed but tasteless. I missed the delicious herbs and the spareribs from the grill where the meat slid off the bone. Now I think from the oven and with a very small amount of herbs but otherwise very tasteless. The well-known chicken cordon blue from Stegers is also no longer there. It tastes different and there is no ham in it anymore. They also forgot to give us part of the order. Since we have been picking up from Groenlo for 23 years, you don't just drive back to pick up the forgotten items. No, the spareribs that Stegers was famous for have become disappointing. And certainly not worth repeating. Very disappointed in the new kitchen quality of Stegers.

Sinds april 2025 zit er andere eigenaar op dit restaurant. Gelukkig is de kaart niet veranderd. Nog steeds lekkere spare ribs en vriendelijk personeel.

Had a delicious lunch with the whole family

As a French speaker who speaks a little Dutch (Belgian style!), I was very pleased with the service and the food! The staff were careful to use more common words when I didn't understand what they were saying. Thank you to them.

A very nice, clean restaurant with super delicious food❤️. Fish and salads were very well prepared. And the last time I had such a delicious chicken soup with so much meat was 15 years ago at my grandma's. Highly recommended!

Always friendly staff and good food for a fair price, worth taking a seat on a terrace

You have to wait a long time for good things. The food was very tasty and the portions were large, but we had to wait an hour for it and we were almost alone in the restaurant. The people who came after us got their food before us. Another thing I found really strange: I ordered a salad from the lunch menu, but I had to change it because everyone at my table had ordered something from the dinner menu. Or everyone had to order something from the lunch menu. Really not possible🙄

Had a great Schnitzel, the staff is really personal and friendly, concluded with a delicious Irish coffee. Hopefully this formula will continue to exist

When I am in Aalten I usually go here and everything is always fine, this time too the food was good and the fries were tasty and hardly any hard pieces, and an excellent presentation of the satay (see photo)

This afternoon lunch and latte macchiato. Dinner tonight. Fried salmon and chicken satay. Finally, dessert: banana parfait and macaroon pudding. Delicious to eat your finger with. Friendly staff

A bit of a bad experience the last time at the takeaway. Incomplete order and did not receive everything paid for. There is no apologies upon collection, but only upon payment. Not in order. Food was also less than previous times. And it was not exceptionally busy at the takeaway.

Had a lovely lunch here. In addition, the coffee and apple pie from baker Vaags are delicious. As always it was well taken care of. The service was very friendly and hospitable. A large terrace with many shady areas.

Stegers is a household name in Aalten. The menu and decor have changed little since I came here as a child with my parents in the 1980s, but that's not a bad thing. Not everything has to be innovative and hip, sometimes something is good as it is. Recommended: fried mushrooms, snitzel, steak, pepper sauce. Portions are large and plenty of side dishes. This time we were here for our Christmas dinner with family. Delicious surprise menu, friendly service and the children could run around on the market square between courses.

We had dinner, it was really tasty. A delicious popon and carrot soup. And as a main course a pork tenderloin with champion cream sauce. I think it is recommended for everyone.
