Ronduit onbeschoft personeel, jonge dames met een hele grote brutale mond. Eten is lachwekkend zo klein zijn de portie's, maar wel de hoofdprijs betalen. Arrogantie ten top,de klanten komen toch wel wordt er gezegt.

Review: Unfortunately, another unpleasant experience with the owner of this restaurant. Upon arrival, we politely requested a table in the shade on a sunny day, but this was firmly refused. The shady spots turned out to be reserved "for potential larger groups," which ultimately didn't show up. When we moved our table slightly closer to the shade, it was clearly not appreciated. The owner's tone was gruff and unwelcoming. It's notable that the staff is generally friendly and helpful, but the owner's attitude consistently puts a damper on the visit. He doesn't seem to enjoy his work much, which is a shame, because the food is otherwise excellent. All in all, we always leave here with mixed feelings. It's a shame that the owner's customer service is consistently lacking.

The food was varied and excellent. Very good salads. Very original. Very good service and location.

It's as if time has stood still. The interior is still the same as it was in the sixties when I first went. A beautiful, authentic pub. We had an excellent cappuccino and a delicious tuna salad and waldkorn bread roll. The service was provided by friendly ladies.

We were in the area for a graduation ceremony. We hadn't made a reservation. Upon entering, we discovered that all the tables were essentially reserved. We indicated we just wanted a quick bite and then would be gone. We were greeted very politely and were finally allowed to sit down for a quick meal. The staff was super friendly, helpful, and accommodating.

If you want to sit down for a nice evening with a nice drink, you should definitely visit Cafe Tolhuis.

Het eten was heel lekker. Het was alleen jammer dat wij na twee uur aan de bar moesten zitten ,vanwege een tijdslot. Vind ik persoonlijk heel vreemd, omdat dit niet aan ons verteld is. Ook op de website kan ik dit niet vinden.

Funny place, in the middle of a crossroads. Nicely decorated brown cafe, food was good but also a bit expensive. Too bad they allow dogs in the dining area, not fresh.

A neighborhood cafe where you can eat well and sit on the terrace with the sun. I came there in my high school days and apart from the food, fortunately nothing has changed.

Super nice atmosphere, just cozy and even on the terrace it is wonderfully relaxing because of the space and the heaters, without them being a nuisance. Food was received promptly, richly stocked and of good quality. The staff is also approachable and friendly. Het Tolhuis is a very nice restaurant that I would like to return to.

Very nice and cozy cafe! Nice large bar, bookcases full of books, many photos and paintings on the walls and musical instruments on a ceiling beam. Delicious food: bavette on a bed of vegetables with wedges; the seasonal snack. The service is good. Oh and the truffle(?) that you get with your coffee is absolutely delicious!

Het was echt enorm goed! Een steak tartaar zoals ik hem zelden heb gehad. Vers van het mes, zeer smaakvol. Uitsmijter met kaas en spek: helemaal prima. Lekker brood en meer dan genoeg. Echt een aanrader. We komen geregeld en het is altijd goed!

Very cosy place! One of the few traditional bars/kroegs left around these days. Living in England now, I've come to appreciate this style just like the English pubs. Used to live in Hilversum, and now I only visit now and then and always look for cosy places to sit with my laptop and do some creative work. This place is one of my favourites - inspiring vibe, super friendly staff and the food is delicious too. PS, I also love the free bites handed out on Froday afternoon. :)

Wat een verschrikkelijke tent is dit. Borrel met oud collega’s. Van te voren gemeld. Gezellig met 20-25 man aan / rond de bar……not. We werden dwingend en chagrijnig gevraagd om te gaan zitten aan een tafel. Hoe dan. Nee hier kom ik /komen wij nooit meer. Dit personeel heeft van horeca echt helemaal niks begrepen!

Very tasty food, service is excellent. It has become very expensive and the downside is that you don't get any vegetables with your dish, except for a stray carrot.

Lekker dan. Om 19.30 gereserveerd. Totaal vol en geen tafel vrij. Geen contact te krijgen met de bediening. Onverrichter zake vertrokken. Daar ga ik dus niet meer heen.

This is how it should be and many occasions can follow this example. Very hospitable reception. Delicious food and a better hostess (Florence) is difficult to find. I will definitely come back here and this is highly recommended! Thanks and see you next time!

Ate here last Wednesday and last Wednesday. A satay bali and my daughter a prawn pan. It was delicious. Nice atmosphere and good service.

Tolhuis should be the example for every cafe around the corner. Do you fancy a nice breakfast... They have it for you! A good lunch... They do! Enjoy a nice drink... The drinks board will be in front of you within 2 minutes! Have a nice dinner... The menu is full of tasty dishes and of course the dish of the day and the satay are not missing! The wine choice is very good and for a reasonable price. You'll even have money left over for dessert and coffee and a digestive. Inside it is a cozy brown pub, outside a great terrace, but on a busy road. Have something to look at 😁 One thing is a shame... They have taken the chorizo ​​bitterballen off the menu, these need to be put back on the menu Oh yes, they don't take reservations, but there is usually room.

Wonderful to have a nice 'bite' here. In addition to the delicious menu, I come every week for a bite to eat a day/week. One party every time. I would therefore like to keep an eye on the announcement for the new menu 🥂

Heel vreemd we waren met 8 personen en kregen de speciale menukaart voor groepen. De andere kon echt niet we waren met teveel mensen. Wanneer we 3/5 hadden gedaan en daarna bij elkaar waren gaan zitten mocht het wel. Gekke gedachte… personeel ( bedienend ) vriendelijk achter de bar iets minder aardig die vond de tafel van 8 echt een verschil met een tafel van 3 en 5. Ik laat het gaan maar kom niet meer terug

For NL good service. At a crossing, always something to see outside. They have heaters on outside terrace. A huge plus point, it means I also will go there in colder days. Quite small. Typical Dutch. Good place for typical Dutch food and Drinks.

We had a GREAT time at Café Tolhuis! We came early in the morning as we needed to find a spot to work remotely and spend the day as we were visiting houses in Hilversum during our lunch break. We got coffee in the morning, lunch (super good Satey!) and since we really liked the atmosphere and the staff was lovely we also stayed for a couple bottles of wine. Thank you for this day and we will come back soon!

Another delicious meal at the Tolhuis. Delicious sandwich with spreads for the main course of the Tolhuis. Meat, fish and salad and of course a delicious dessert. Friendly and pleasant staff. Price/quality is definitely worth it.

We came here on a quiet summer afternoon to have a drink because we had heard positive experiences of this 'nice' café. After having placed an order for two different mocktails with difficulty (due to traffic noise) and a long wait, after another ten minutes we looked at where the service was. The woman turned out to be making private calls! The man at the counter said it was a shame, but offered no apologies. Didn't take it over either. Meanwhile, a new guest came in. After 20 minutes of our arrival, the woman, while cursing at the man, finally arrived with our mocktails. Whether we wanted to give our opinion about the mocktails. The mocktails were bad and tasteless and definitely not worth the price. That was also communicated. After paying, the long-waiting guest, who came in after us, was approached through the open window (?) by the woman for the order.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner were really good, reasonably priced and the staff were fantastic! 10/10

I came because there was a cafe very close to the hotel I was staying in Hilversum. I am very pleased. The waiters were very charming. Bitterballens and shrimps were delicious. thanks!

Worthless experience. Waiting for first drink after asking, waiting again for card after asking. Greek salad was not Greek. Bag of lettuce with three cubes of white cheese (no feta!) and 3 olives. The whole bag together is less than €3. Shameful to charge €17.50 for this, Thai daily special also below standard. Not enough rice for a complete meal. Too bad... I wanted to impress our friends because I think highly of you as a neighbor. Vicarious shame.

Long wait after arrival for first drink, only after asking. Then wait again and ask for the map. Then: Greek salad looked like a shake-out bag of greens from Albert Hein with three pieces of white cheese (no feta) and three olives. Far from Greek! It's outrageous to charge €17.50 for this. Thai dish of the day contained too little rice for a complete meal. Too bad, not recommended now. I hope for the quality of yesteryear.

A top café with a nice atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious coffee. I ordered the apple pie and got an apple pie that was very tasty. Really recommended to get coffee here with friends. There are plenty of seats outside, unfortunately it was difficult for me to get inside with the electric wheelchair, but otherwise a great place!

Tolhuis is a cozy old Hilversum cafe. Now that it is part of a larger catering group, it is unfortunately no longer what it used to be. In particular the food is very average. Staff absolutely friendly. The 4-person table is a 2-person table with 4 chairs.

Nice opportunity for a snack and a drink, which is why my parents celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary there. I stopped by here in the afternoon to pay for their first drink. It was going to be completely fine. In the end my parents had dinner there and all the drinks were on the bill. After calling and discussing it, and possibly sending a screenshot from the bank(!), they suddenly remembered. Very crazy..

Wij waren op doorreis en zijn gestopt omdat we een aantrekkelijk terras zagen zonder grote verwachtingen. Welnu: deze zijn overtroffen. Zeer vriendelijke en gastvrije bediening, leuke lunchkaart en mooie open wijnen. Aanrader!

Great comfortable place, nice food, reasonably priced and very friendly service.

We were walk in without reservation, after some deliberation they put the 5 of us on a table, I heard one waiter express concern about the available space to which the other simply said, they should have made a reservation. If they didn't have space for us they could have just said so. No need to be rude. They were in a rush the entire time serving us. But at no point did they indicate that we needed to be gone before a specific time. Until the waiter just showed up with a bill. The food was fine, but checking the bill around 50/60 a person without going overboard. Too expensive.

Was altijd een leuke en gezellige tent met vriendelijk en servicegericht personeel . Helaas is de bedrijfsleider HP vertrokken en holt het achteruit. Bot en onvriendelijk personeel die woordje service echt niet kennen. Van regelmatige bezoeker nu maar even verder kijken. Jammer.

Leuk wilde even gaan eten met 4 personen. Niet de eerste keer. Bel op voor een reservering om 27:00 wordt er gezegd bel om negen uur maar terug want ik heb het nu te druk en wordt de verbinding verbroken. Wat een waardeloos gedrag.

De lekkerste carpaccio. Superlekkere bal gehakt, ja echt ontzettend lekker eten daar, ook vriendelijk personeel, niet zo gek dat er altijd mensen zitten, wanneer je ook kijkt, ondanks dat het parkeren daar best lastig kan zijn

Het Tolhuis, daar hebben we op de laatste zaterdagavond van oktober fijn buiten kunnen genieten van een paar wijntjes, we werden uitstekend verzorgd door een zeer vriendelijke bediening en ik werd verrast aangesproken door "Lieve" een aardige oud leerling, die heel sociaal vaardig aangaf mij te herkennen van een vroegere schoolopleiding, ik vond dat zo attent, we gaan vast nog eens terugkomen, bedankt en de Groetjes van Hansch

They don't have a menu in English, but the waitresses were helpful in translating and choosing your order. They serve really delicious things and the apple cake was amazing. The decor of the pub is very cozy and the atmosphere inside is very homely. It's great that we could experience a visit to a place for locals before leaving Hilversum

Vandaag heerlijk geluncht. Mijn keuze viel op een salade niçoise waar de Fransen nog wat van kunnen leren. Alles klopt in het Tolhuis, de sfeer, de crew en de keuken maken het een feestje voor elke bezoeker. Een aanwinst voor Hilversum 😉

Their food is really really good. Hands down the best toasties and best burgers in town. My 7yo and 4yo love the Angus beef burger. They normally do not eat the vegetables in the burger but they ate them here so I am thrilled to bits. Great place to expand kids’ palates.

Great place. The grilled cheese might be the best I've ever had in a bar/restaurant. The waitress was very friendly and helpful, and when we asked for some tap water it was not a problem (we've encountered several places in Holland where they only served Spa Blauw). The place is situated between two local roads, which makes for a lot of traffic, but we weren't bothered by it. There also seemed to be a lot of locals coming in for their daily coffee/beer etc, which is always a good sign. In short: great stop for a cop of coffee/tea or quick lunch!

Gezellig interieur, fantastische biefstuk met truffelsaus gegeten. Kan me niet herinneren dat een biefstuk mij zo goed heeft gesmaakt!
