A truly lovely place to enjoy a delicious meal! Everything served was well-seasoned and beautifully presented. The service was friendly and attentive, without feeling forced. The atmosphere at Toussaint is also just right: cozy and lively, yet you can still have a quiet conversation. We left feeling very good and would love to come back again!

Coffee very tasty! Service very slow but sweet. Baguette with avocado and tomato laughable. 11 euros for this is obviously not normal.

Cosy atmosphere, nice foods & drinks.

I was really disappointed with my visit. For $20 I expected fresh food, but the baguette was stale and very hard to cut with the completely dull knife. The cinnamon roll was also served cold and didn't feel fresh. Although the coffee was okay, they didn't provide a spoon for the sugar, so I had to clean the knife with a serviette just to stir it. It felt like paying for leftovers and was not worth it.

Interesting place. Good olives and bitterballen. Nice and quiet space in the center of Amsterdam. Also, prices are acceptable. Lovely!

The place has a terrace and the area is very quiet. The food is fresh and delicious. They have a very extensive wine list. You can also have an aperitif.

The terrace is lovely! We had the entrecôte, one with the pepper sauce and the other one with the Parisian sauce, both of them were delicious! For dessert we had a the chocolate mouse which was amazing and not too sweet. All in all a 10 out of 10 experience

I have never eaten anywhere so badly, and I have quite a lot of experience. Salade Nicoise was just a few lettuce leaves with very little else. Stewed beef with fries was a few pieces of meat (not stewed beef) with a few fries, and no vegetables. The service wasn't very quick either. We ended up eating somewhere else afterwards. It's a shame, because we were sitting outside in a nice atmosphere. It's not the location's fault. Never again!

What a spectacle at Toussaint. It took 15 minutes before anyone even came over, and that interaction was meaningless: “here is the menu” and she was gone again. After that, we were completely ignored for another 20 minutes, even though it wasn't even busy. After 35 minutes without even a glass of water, we left. No one noticed. That says it all. If you ignore (or forget) guests for half an hour while they are sitting right in front of you, you simply shouldn't open your terrace. We won't be coming back here. Go sit somewhere where you are actually treated like a guest. Wilhelmina is just around the corner. They get the hang of it.

Lovely location to sit and the restaurant's decor is also really top-notch. However, the service is very negligent. We waited half an hour for a menu, and serving the dish also took quite a long time. Food fine, but nothing very special.

Too bad, not very good. We had to wait more than half an hour or two glasses of wine. There were a few lukewarm fries on a small flat plate. We left when we were served by an unkempt waitress. It is a shame that the new batch doesn't take the criticism to heart. The rest of the ambiance was okay.

To taste the asparagus here is to taste the stars. The servers were polite and welcoming, the atmosphere is tranquil, and the food is divine. My asparagus and chickpea dish is the best thing I ate in four days in Amsterdam, and my partner's tuna steak was perfectly cooked. I will be having dreams about Café Toussaint for the foreseeable future.

While on my way to you, I told you that the experiences the last FEW times weren't good, and we had to wait a very long time for a waiter. And, what just happened, 1:00 PM? We just left again, and now I'll put it online. See you never! A neighbor.

What a shame that such a nice café as Toussaint has changed owners! The fun, casual neighborhood café has been transformed into yet another boring “high-end” resto café. The service isn't what it used to be either (and neither is the music…). All in all, another piece of Amsterdam's soul is disappearing.

We went for dinner with 7. We had a lovely time on the terrace, so 10/10 for atmosphere. The food took a bit long, but the staff was super friendly and gave lots of updates. Once the food finally arrived, it was delicious!

Nice little eatery, great food and wine. We had to leave on time due to a performance, and they took that into account nicely.

So this is one of my favorite places in the world. It’s around the corner from my childhood home and holds a special place in my heart. As of June 2026 I can still confirm it’s the best corner in the city. Ask for a table on the terrace, order their wines, and explore the menu; everything is excellent. I went on a beautiful Sunday evening and they were packed. Service could be a bit quicker but overall very friendly and professional. The charcuterie and cheeses are second to none and their bitterballen are among my favorite in the country. Please go, it’s awesome and they deserve your support.

We had a lovely evening at Cafe Toussaint. Friendly and helpful service. The oysters were delicious, as was all the other food. One point of attention: the salad was a bowl of lettuce with 2 green beans; it really could be a bit more exciting.

It was good at first; we’ve been coming here for a long time, but since the owner changed, it’s been a disaster. There were three of us, and there was only one table for four. A woman (who worked at the restaurant) was sitting there all alone with a laptop. She seated us at a small table meant for only two people and added a chair. We were very cramped (for lunch). The menu was tiny (maximum 10 dishes), and the names were French without descriptions. We had to look up what the dishes were on the internet. I ordered a toasted sandwich, and the cheese smelled like someone had stepped on it. My mother had a small cheese roll. Nothing else on the roll. It really wasn't worth paying so much for this. A toasted sandwich, cola, two small cheese rolls, and two lukewarm cappuccinos cost €44. WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. The staff was uninterested too. Worst restaurant ever. I wonder how a very good restaurant became so bad.

It wasn't very good. The main course was the size of a starter. See photos. The taste was okay, but nothing special. The table was not set when we arrived. It wasn't set when we were allowed to sit down either. We ordered a bottle of white wine and it was placed on the table just like that, without a cooler. Upon inquiry, we did receive one immediately. The salad was also exactly that, with some red onion and mustard oil on top. The fries were more like steppe grass and a truly mini portion. The toilet was not clean. It was gender neutral, though. Not worth repeating.

Toussaint is a top location for a relaxed and laid-back afternoon or evening! We enjoyed delicious wine, snacks, and fish and meat dishes. The price-quality ratio is excellent. The salad and fries served are also worth trying. The new twist and menu at this café make one or more visits worthwhile!

We sat here really nicely in the sun, but otherwise I found it a bit disappointing. Everything took a very long time. A glass of tea and lemonade took at least half an hour. The food also took a long time, but well, if you get something really tasty, that's no problem at all. But I found this disappointing myself as well. The egg salad sandwich was literally just a thin layer of egg salad and two herb leaves on top, and it cost 10 euros... The other sandwich with sirloin steak wasn't very special either. Just pretty much medium for a fairly high price. Fine, but nothing more than that.

Truly worthless service. The new owner has terrible staff; you wait more than 30 minutes for your drink. You also notice the misplaced arrogance of the new staff. What a waste of such a beautiful place.

Has remained a favorite for years; cozy and relaxed with a wide selection of craft beers and wines, as well as some simple snacks and just plain, good pub food. Perfect place to catch up or read the newspaper—everything is possible!

I have eaten here quite often in the past. Back then, it was always fine. Tonight, however, was incredibly bad. The main salad was downright disgusting and inedible. The steak was also very mediocre with nasty pepper sauce. The wait staff's reaction was more or less a shrug. I am never coming here again.

We chanced upon this restaurant coz the one we wanted to go to was closed. There was an Italian across the street we thought to try but it was empty while this restaurant had some locals dining inside so my husband said we should try this instead. Service was great & the 6 of us really enjoyed our food! My daughter is a picky eater but demolished her ham & cheese, my croque monsieur was great & my boys enjoyed their roast beef sandwich. The potato & leek soup of the day was hearty & the french fries were very well fried & crispy! The calamari was good too!

We sat down on the terrace and were immediately treated wonderfully! A blanket, a heater, and water with our coffee. Great service. I'll be back!

I visited this place twice, the first time with a respectful lady it was good and great, but the second time with two boys it was bad on it 😣 they talk to each other all the time and the service was zero.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend that place.Very unpleasant atmosphere..especially when you speak English to them..The stuff was very grumpy.Our Dutch friend went to this place few days before and booked the table for us and they were nice but when couple of days later he brought us there, we felt very unwelcome..Looks like they don't like the foreigners there..because they were very friendly to the Dutch people sitting on the other tables and to us they gave nothing but cold and grumpy looks.The food was not good, steak was chewy and they didn't even ask how we want our steak to be prepared.Mussles are served without any kind of sauce and when our friend asked for a garlic sauce, the waiter said they serve their mussels without sauce, would be nice if they at least offered mayonnaise or even ketchup, as surely they have it in their kitchen.Will not be coming back here ever again.

What a fantastic place with truly un-Amsterdam service. In other words, the service was fantastic! As were the food and the location, by the way. We had a wonderful time sitting on the terrace in an oasis of tranquility. Thanks!

Great restaurant/café with a large terrace and enthusiastic service. Mainly locals, despite its location near Leidseplein.

Managed to get a table without booking it beforehand! The food was great, the wait was not that long, loved the steak and the beer.

A restaurant on a side street in Overtoom. Very quiet and pleasant. We were able to sit outside. The service wasn't unfriendly. We were allowed to sit after asking. The menu was interesting. We ordered starters and main courses. Thank goodness! The portions were very limited and the kitchen wasn't particularly professionally prepared. The prices are high and the value isn't worth it. We rated them too highly. We wouldn't come back.

This neighborhood cafe has been there for years. Pleasant atmosphere. Reasonable choice of drinks, kitchen somewhat limited.

They certainly weren't busy but it took forever to get our food. The servers were very nice but ...... The food was reasonably priced. We're not that experienced with French dining - it was good, not that great. We really enjoyed sitting outside. It was quiet and could have a good conversation. Perhaps some of the other menu items would have been better.

Super warm welcome by a nice young woman but unfortunately after her departure the service deteriorated drastically. The young man who collected our starters forgot to tell the kitchen to prepare our main course. He passed by our table several times without ever realizing that we were waiting for the main course. After 45 minutes we had to go inside to find out if we had been forgotten. That's not to mention the bread ordered and forgotten. Maybe it was just a bad evening for this server but it unfortunately colored our experience on April 27 at 6:30 p.m.

Man was exceptionally rude. We asked to get a table and he laughed about seating us and then walked away. We waited for a bit and then left. Skip this place and try many nearby spots w much better service

Great local pub to grab a beer and sit on the street. If the weather is nice the place will be packed with Dutch people.

Really didn’t feel welcomed there. It took quite some time to place an order for drinks and to get food menu. When we asked if we can order dinner, we were told that the order can be placed only in 10 minutes, because the kitchen is too busy. The restaurant was not full at all. Eventually we just left to get dinner somewhere else.

Qué hermoso y acogedor bistró. Tuvimos una fabulosa cena de San Valentín. Auténtica experiencia holandesa, gran servicio, deliciosa comida y un ambiente muy agradable.

A wonderful Amsterdam afternoon stop with hot warm mint tea and delicious fried octopus. Love it!

Small cafe, leaning against old brown. Nice varied snack menu and diverse range of drinks. Friendly help and delicious snacks. Holtkamp bitterballen, a glass of red port and a delicious rose.

We visited for dinner and the food is excellent. Delicious, lovely sauces to accompany and generous portions for both the starters and mains. Their drink "The best dam g&t" was actually a top tier g&t and definitely lived up to expectations. The food did take a while to arrive, so dropping a star for that, but would still recommend this place for a nice meal.

Maybe just the wrong meal choice, as I did see quite some positive review on the food. But we just had a breakfast there, and food was pretty ordinary and portion size is relatively small… we ordered avocado toast, maybe there was too much lemon juice added to the avocado smash, the overall taste was too sour. But nothing too bad, just nothing worth to be appraised either unfortunately.

Nice staff, it is located in a very quiet street with plenty of space, the coffee and the bitterballen are delicious. I often come there for a cup of coffee and a beer. The terrace is partly covered with quite a lot of greenery around it.

Café Toussaint is a lovely café just away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The kitchen does a really good job on taste and quality. A nice neighborhood café where you can have a drink on the lovely terrace, but also enjoy a good meal. And the staff is really great! Attentive, sees everything happening on the terrace and really takes care of you. A gem in the city. There should be more of that. Oh and you can also play pétanque there. Very hip nowadays.

Food was great. Service was friendly and helpful, though difficult to flag down for ordering. Cous cous salad was tasty and the frites were really good!

Un peu surprise de l'assiette de ravioli du menu du jour facturé à 18€50 et affiché à 17euros 50 et surtout voyant que QUATRE raviolis dans l'assiette. Le serveur nous a dit que la cuisine allait fermer et quil fallait commander, peut être qu'il n'en restait plus.... Autre surprise en voyant les sardines, ils mont amené une boîte de sardines avec 3 tranches de pain, je m'attendais aux sardines grillées...quelle déception, j'avoue que le pain etait delicieux, la salade semoule falafel fut apprecie de ma copine, et le camembert chaud en apero nikel

we often dined here, but today the shift was terrible, today we waited for our lunch, more than 40 minutes, toast with cheese and roast beef sandwich... Although other people received their order earlier, they arrived later than us... we paid the entire check and left... hungry!!! I'm ashamed of this attitude, enjoy our tips!

Eşimle akşam hafif birşeyler yemek için gittik. Mutfak kapanmak üzere olmasına rağmen sadece menülerindeki domates çorbasını alacağımızı söyleyince kabul ettiler. Fakat çorba görüntü olarak çok iyi olmasına rağmen çorbadan önce 3 cm uzunlugunda bir naylon parçası çıktı.... ardından ince ince 4 adet daha plastik ince parçalar ağzıma geldi.ve çıkardım...) çorba tabağının sadece 1/5 ini içtim.bu parçalar da o kısımdan çıktı... tabi ki bu noktadan sonra artık çorbayı içemedim.. ücretini ödedik ve ardından ordaki bayana çorbadan çıkan masadaki plastik parçaları gösterdik.. biraz şaşırdı üzgünüm falan dedi....ama olan benim akşam yemeğime oldu .Amsterdamdaki son akşam yemeğim bu şekilde oldu...üzgünüm ama burdaki yemeklerin nasıl yapıldığı ve hijeni konusunda ciddi sıkıntılar var!!

One of the most uncomfortable experiences I've had in a long time. My friend and I decided to stop on their terrace for a drink. We were immediately approached by one of the staff members and told very rudely we couldn't sit if we wanted to eat. "Only drinks!" We said it's not a problem since that's what we aimed for. But it seemed it was still a problem for them. I'm not sure if it was the fact that we spoke English or that we were two women, but 1 minute later, another staff member came to us and asked (in English) who told us we could sit there. We replied that it was his colleague (in Dutch, to his immediate surprise), and he turned and left. As this was not enough, they then proceeded to ignore us. They took orders from all tables next to us, even from groups that came later. Interestingly enough, the tables on each side spoke Dutch. One wonders what we did wrong... It's such a shame because the place and terrace looked lovely. Definitely not going back! P.S. Dear Toussaint staff, being kind to people doesn't cost you a thing. It's free even if you encounter English-speaking customers. Fijne dag!

The terrace is nice and spatious. I went there with a friend on a friday evening for *one* beer and even though it was busy there were a few tables here and there. We sat down in one of them but it definitely seemed like we weren’t wanted there - twice we were asked who had sat us there and were told we couldn’t order food (there was food in some tables around us and waiters carrying snacks every now and then). It took over 20 minutes for someone to take our order (again, only two beers). My friend and I don’t speak Dutch to each other but we can speak to a decent level having lived here many years. Alas, it seemed like that wasn’t enough. When we spoke Dutch back we were met with a skeptic “ah you speak Dutch” and he switched back to English. Every other table was getting served with a smile or at least some acknowledgement while we were ignored. When our beers finally came, they were delivered to the wrong table. Very few times have I felt this unwelcome in Amsterdam. Or anywhere, for the matter.

Nice location but slow serving time, Mixed irders, food came in different phases and not correct. Waited an hour for an omlette meanwhile other tables arriving later got their orders faster. They told us that the food will be ready in 2 minutes (twice in 30 minutes).

I was very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. We had to wait an extremely long time for our food, and when it finally arrived, it was not good at all. Additionally, the waitstaff were unprofessional and inattentive. I do not recommend this place and will definitely not be returning.

Very long waiting time on the food which wasn’t amazing

Even though the drinks, food and ambiance of the place were good, the service was very bad. When we went there as two young girls, the manager of the place was very rude to us and made us feel that we were not wanted there. When we asked for the bill, he picked us up from the table and told us that we had to come to the cash register, but he made everyone else pay the bill at the table. The other waiters were very cheerful and friendly. Even though I enjoyed the wine and food very much, the manager really spoiled our mood that day.
