Excellent pub for a drink with friends, accompanied by some delicacies (even typical ones, like Dutch Bitterballen)

The interior design is very nice, but that's where its advantages end. Local stink, but we decided to give them a chance, maybe beers are fine we thought, but unfortunately not :( Drinks was expensive and tasted like it was past its expiration date. I do not recommend this place.

They charged me 31 euros for 1 mojito and 1 pint of cider. Nearly 20 euros for 1 cocktail. Utterly utterly ridiculous pricing, only redeeming value is good music.

A pitcher is supposed to be 180cl. Yet we only got just over 3 x 40cl glasses out of one. The glasses have measures on them. The pitcher doesn't.... dont buy a pitcher.

This is a spot I visit every time I go to Amsterdam. It's enjoyable to sit outdoors under a heater, sipping coffee and hot chocolate. Amsterdam's busy pedestrian traffic is right in front of you. I deducted one star because it's very expensive. But considering its location, it's acceptable. An Americano and hot chocolate (with cream) cost 13 euros.

I had no idea this place even served food (so I won’t comment on that part). We first tried another pub nearby, but it felt way too posh and pretentious. Then we walked into Cafe Zwart and it was exactly what we needed — perfect vibe. The playlist was unreal: every single song was a banger. First time in my life I genuinely loved every track that came on. Drinks are definitely on the pricier side, BUT they are MONSTROUS in size. My wife and I ordered double whiskies on ice and what we got was basically ¾ of a large IKEA-style tumbler filled with whisky — not some tiny rocks glass. So yeah, you pay more, but you actually get way more booze. Great value in that sense. The staff was incredibly friendly — huge shoutout to Pedro behind the bar, and the whole team (including the lovely barmaids) was smiling and super chill the entire time. Sure, we were in Amsterdam and a bit high, but even without that we would’ve had a blast. We’re honestly shocked this place only has 3.6 stars (as of Dec 2025). From us — a very honest 5 stars. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the city.

Caffè Zwart is a café located in the heart of Amsterdam, overlooking Dam Square. The place is very well-kept and clean, with warm and welcoming service that immediately puts you at ease. We had the pleasure of drinking two Trappist beers (for breakfast ☺️) at a very reasonable price, especially considering the central location, the beauty of the place, and average prices in Amsterdam. We highly recommend this place for a pleasant break, ideal for enjoying the center of Amsterdam while watching the world go by from the square.

€11.20 for two small coffees this morning is a complete rip-off. This bar is a tourist trap.

Great coffee. However, our cups were taken away while someone in our group still had a drink. Then they immediately threw the bill on the table. Very poor.

Drinks are extremely overpriced. Payed 16 euros for a couple of coffees. In about 10 seconds after we payed, they said that they will close the outside area in 10 minutes. It was pretty obvious that we will be outside before we ordered anything by asking for an ash tray. AND INSIDE WAS FULL. But musics were pretty good lol.

The place was comfortable and cozy, the attitude was calming. We’ve got only beers, so I can’t tell you anything about food. But I was really surprised at the price of beer, 8€ for 0,3 glass, come on, it’s too expensive.

The fries were incredibly good. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect! Unfortunately, the drinks were ridiculously expensive.

Great little bar just off dam square

Drinks with Bittergarnituur €30 1 wine, 1 beer, and bitterballen Wine €9.50 Beer €8.40 We ordered a small beer and received a small vase. We are Amsterdammers through and through, but it was quite expensive! The staff only spoke English. Unfortunately, the wait was long.

One 0.5 Beer costs 12.50€. We Come from munich and are used to wiesn prices, but this is insane.

Well located if you want to rip off your wallet: 4 beers, two glasses of wine, a Pepsi, and some croquettes... €75. No wonder they come to Spain and get so high... Either you have Frenkie De Jong's salary at Barça or find somewhere else.

There's something about these kinds of places that's impossible to explain. The smell of fresh wood, the murmur of conversation, the soft bass of music coursing through your spine. The staff works as if they're dancing, and the customers move along. Sometimes you forget that this is just a café. It feels more like a second living room, one where no one judges.

Coffee is way too expensive, avoid it. Almost €6 for a 20 cl iced tea... €20 for two for only two drinks. I strongly advise against it if you don't want to get ripped off.

Without a doubt, one of those places that makes you want to stay. Perfect for enjoying a delicious meal and some drinks while taking in the unique view of Dam Square. The atmosphere is charming, the service friendly, and the prices surprisingly reasonable for the area. An experience worth repeating!

Yesterday, there was a sudden downpour, causing people to quickly seek shelter. I watched in astonishment as the staff, shouting and even cursing, chased people away. The awning was retracted, and later the umbrellas as well. This resulted in people (including customers) getting unnecessarily wet. I walked in with my friend and was told, "We are closed." When it turned out I was Dutch, I was allowed to sit down, where I was served a still beer and a weak coffee for 12 euros. As an Amsterdammer, I'm truly ashamed of these kinds of places.

The place is way too expensive. To give you an idea, the palace next door is cheaper... 18.50 for a cocktail and 10€ for a bottle of water. And the iced tea is 6.50 for barely 200ml, I don't recommend it!

Barely polite servers and exorbitant prices

Drinks are very expensive. A wheat beer costs €12. We were once asked to pay a bill that had already been paid. We were thus robbed of €36. Not recommended!

This place now holds the new world record in incoming-new-customer-ignoring-time. By a big margin. It’s been half an hour (and still counting) since I sat down here. The lady here came around a couple of times, even taking orders from persons sitting at the next table and I was really curious how long can she keep it up to look right passed me. Impressive. The price of beer in here is ridiculous, still after coming home not sure if i was scammed. Had to take the glass home with me to make it worth it. Then again what do you expect being this close to the red light district.

A very cozy atmosphere, and centrally located. However, the prices for all drinks, for example, are overpriced. Unfortunately, the value for money is good here. The staff could also be a bit more attentive and friendly.

Went there on 29th of April evening for a drink. Lady came up and asked what we wanted but we asked for more time. She snatched the menu away and asked us to leave now if U don't order. Was literally sitting there 4 minutes before getting asked to leave. So rude, never had that in all my life.

We had time here for a drink before our guided tour started. The Tulip Spritz was THE drink! Pretty and delicious. We were thrilled and recommend him. It's expensive, but we treated ourselves to it as a holiday souvenir.

Worst (and most expensive) coffee I’ve ever had. In addition, service was not good at all. The waitress was rude.

We were there for two evenings at the weekend with 15 girls and it was just great. Delicious cocktails and a great bartender who even reserved the bar for us for the second evening.

We paid just under 35 euros for 2 cocktails, at least half of which consisted of ice, which is really extortionate as tourists are excluded because the restaurant is very centrally located on the busy Dam. The waiter only came after half an eternity to take the order. This is definitely better in Amsterdam

Our go-to place in Amsterdam! The atmosphere was great, and the staff was very friendly. It was a bit pricey indeed, but we had a great time. We only had finger food, which was decent.

The cocktails are super tasty, but a bit expensive.

Antisocial shop. Nuts 7 euros. Pitcher beer 30€ and the pitcher wasn't even one but only 1.6 liters, almost half a liter less than a pitcher should be. But the staff on site shot the bird. Open until 4 a.m., at 3:45 a.m. the music went off and the lights came on and you were told to leave immediately and the store closed. Antisocial and never again.

Lovely little pub right outside the palace. Flora (sorry if I spelled this wrong) was absolutely lovely, very nice to talk to, and very attentive. The atmosphere is great and the Irish cider is as well. Has outdoor seating and ashtrays, if you like to smoke as you drink. Would love to come back on my next trip :)

Det var länge sedan vi besökte Zwart då var det skaplig atmosfär men lite dyrt. Nu då? Ännu värre trångt halvdålig service och ännu dyrare. Vi avråder ett besök här, det finns mycket trevligare ställen i närheten

If you don't smoke weed and are tired of alcohol, this is the only place that has decent coffee until late at night. The service is very good, all the employees are friendly. The price is a bit expensive because it is in the center. But it is the only place in Amsterdam where you can drink quality espresso.

The food wasn’t that good but most of all, the waiters seemed very inexperienced and were sometimes rude. Our orders came out wrong and when trying to help the waiters to solve our order, they suggested to double-check our orders ourselves next time. Our order ended up taking over 40min.

This place was very disappointing. Besides the waitress that didn't seem to take our food order and ignoring the signs of trying to order. the food is also very VERY exspensive. 5 euro for basic drinks like cola and 5 up to 7 for coffee. I'm from the Netherlands as wellbut this shocked me and my partner. The food was mid. Not delicious or wonderful. Simply just... Meh.... The vibe the staff gave us was like no one actually wanted to be working there. Next time I will avoid this place. It did became a fun thing to meme about to my partner and friends.

One of the best places to catch a fútbol match in the area

Café très bien situé dans le centre d’Amsterdam. Malheureusement, nourriture de qualité moyenne et servie à table dans une barquette en aluminium comme si c’était un plat à emporter. Autant aller ailleurs dans un fast food (et payer moins cher) ou dans un autre restaurant pour être servi dans une vraie assiette, il y en a plein aux alentours.

Tourist rip-off of the highest order. Prices are extremely expensive and alcohol is so extremely diluted with water. A jameson whiskey costs over €8 plus coke €6.. (as a mixed drink) you get alcohol diluted with water. In my opinion, the map is deliberately described in a confusing way. However, the vodka and pineapple juice I ordered didn't come in separate glasses with all the other mixed drinks. For the others, for example, Whisley came in a half-filled glass and the Cola. I ended up just sitting there with a pineapple juice. Vodka was by no means in there or came separately. We talked about it in a questioning and friendly manner and the waiter accused me of saying that it wasn't my problem, but that the money was my problem. I just wouldn't let myself be taken for a ride and that was certainly his problem. Never again and highly unprofessional.
