Very mediocre chip shop. I'm from Eindhoven myself, where there are definitely a number of much better ones. Shame!

Delicious fries and snacks!! After a day of DIY work, we wanted to grab some tasty fries. Gluten-free, because my wife has an allergy. So De Smickel in Veldhoven is the perfect place to go for that, and for other snacks too, by the way. It was late Saturday afternoon, incredibly busy; the long line of people waiting was even standing outside, which says a lot. We were able to place our order, which would be served on the spot. Despite the massive crowds, the waiting time was only 25 minutes, very acceptable. And the fries? Delicious!!! A nice crispy crust, golden brown, well cooked, and nice and warm to boot, as were the other snacks. And what portions: simply amazing! Very friendly staff too, who work hard. Hats off to you!!!

Had a delicious meal, very cheap, and a very tasty frikandel. This is also a top-notch cafeteria; I will definitely come back here.

Good cafeteria with a wide range of products! Everything is tasty and there is plenty of choice. It is also nice that you can sit there comfortably. Definitely recommended!

The cocktail sauce was spoiled.

We were here on 29-08-2026 around 17:45. At first glance, it made a good impression. Takeaway customers were on one side and seating on the other. The table was clean, and ordering and paying were done via a QR code. Given the pleasant crowds, it seemed like a good choice. Despite the busyness, the order arrived reasonably quickly. A plate of fries (yes, yes... chips...) with satay sauce, and my better half had mayonnaise. It seemed as if the sauces were on the bill; they were very meager. Lots of small pieces of fries (yes, yes... chips). The Bickyburgers looked good but were lukewarm. If you held the bun, your finger would disappear into it. Probably old buns. The burgers were very greasy. The two strawberry milkshakes tasted very much like vanilla. That was because it really was just vanilla, even after stirring. None of this was cheap. A shame... I would not recommend eating here. Perhaps at a quieter time when things are right. Who knows.....

Before the renovation, the service was better. Since the renovation, something always goes wrong with the order (eating inside, ordering and paying via QR code on the table). They always forget something; you have to walk to the counter, and the staff doesn't pay attention to the customers sitting there. Yesterday they forgot our drinks, satay sauce, and mayonnaise. They have French fries and shrimp croquettes here. That is why we come here to eat.

We got the food from the other table.

We had ordered fries to eat there, but they were so hard that we couldn't finish them. (It is already difficult to find good and tasty fries anywhere within Veldhoven, but these are really the worst lately.) On top of that, four of the staff were sitting at a table next to us, loudly telling each other who was the drunkest and what they were all drinking. It was no longer a pleasant experience for us.

Picked up a few frikadel sandwiches with mayonnaise. And for the umpteenth time, the mayonnaise is nowhere to be found. Don't know why, but since the renovation, it seems to be getting worse.

It happens regularly that what you order online is incomplete. They are not among the cheaper chip shops, so being a bit more accurate with delivery would be nice.

Bad. Wanted to get a soft serve ice cream half an hour before closing time, but the machine was off. They casually told me that no ice cream was available because the machine had already been cleaned. If you are open until a certain time, you should be able to buy everything until that time. This is not the first time we have had a negative experience here.

As far as I'm concerned, things are going pretty downhill. Things have been going well for a while, but in the last few weeks, it has been getting worse and worse. The last 5 times, the fries were very bad; it looked like they had already been thrown back into the oil multiple times. So hard, almost burnt. Had to throw away more than half. If you mention it, you get fries that are still half raw. Also, ordered sausages are paid for but not given to you. Unfortunately, today was the last time I went there; it was too bad for words again, just burnt junk.

Ordering through a computer. Zero human contact. Went somewhere else so no opinion about food.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch with fries and stew. The fries were fresh and delicious, and the stew was also very good! It was nice and quiet around 3:00 PM. It was served quickly, and we enjoyed it.

Good for a quick bite to eat. It's not about the atmosphere. I think the price-quality ratio is out of balance. The service, on the other hand, is very good.

Picked up, and unfortunately, the fries were lukewarm to cold. The burger was also raw inside. This is apparently becoming the norm. A shame, because it used to be excellent. And there was no way to call to find a solution.

Ordered quite a bit again today. The quality was very mediocre. The fries were cold, and the Burgundian Croquettes I ordered weren't delivered, but they were disgusting flour croquettes that went straight into the bin. In short, they won't be seeing me as a loyal customer again. There are plenty of better alternatives nearby...

Today I ordered a hamburger, a sito stick, and a croquette. The hamburger was dry, not warm, and not very flavorful. I've had a similar hamburger before, which was good. The sito stick was overcooked, causing it to burn.

Normally always very good, but today I ordered French fries and they were way overcooked. When I reported it, all I got was an "oh." For the price, I think you should expect a bit more service.

Had a delicious meal, everything beautifully renovated. Top-notch place. We must cherish cafeterias like this.

Cheap staff here turns out to be expensive; young (inexperienced) employees show no responsibility, resulting in poor service and quality...

Ordering food via the kiosk works perfectly. You write your name correctly on the receipt, and the wrong name is called out twice, so I ask to see if it's the correct name. "No, it's a different name," I tell them. Another employee has to come over and call out Maurice. That's how it goes, and you get the wrong sauce on your food. So, that was once, but unfortunately, not again.

The food is fine. The staff are too young and lack overview. There were 5 (!) of them working; I had ordered via the self-ordering kiosk and made eye contact a few times with one of the employees (who was clearly chewing gum) while I had been waiting for a long time. At some point, I just asked where my order was. Response: There is something wrong with the self-ordering kiosk. No apologies. One of the employees (an adult woman, perhaps even the owner?) made a comment about them having to ensure everyone placed their order with them because there were problems. Still no apologies. By then, the kiosk was switched off (they do that immediately if something goes wrong with it, and if you know there is trouble with it and someone has been waiting for a long time, surely you just ask if anyone has ordered yet??). My order was entered, and I still had to wait a quarter of an hour (!). You think you're just picking up some food quickly. For us, this was the last time here.

Very unprofessional, very young staff present who seem to have a lot of fun in the kitchen but are not bothered to prepare a correct order, and this while the restaurant is completely empty so there is no crowd at all. The fries were brought to the table incorrectly twice.

Poor service. Young staff. You ask for French fries and get a family-sized portion of regular fries. They don't dare dip the soft serve ice cream in the hot chocolate, so you get a soft serve with absolutely no chocolate on it, and there was no ice cream in the cone. The staff doesn't help each other; they just stand there looking at each other. A real shame.

We had a wonderful meal here, and the service from Matthijs and Koen was fantastic. We'll definitely be back!

Good food and very quick service, highly recommended to sit inside

The fries here are delicious, you won't find better fries! I live in 't Look and go there three times a week. The staff is super friendly and the service is fast, plus they have a great sweer. If you're going to get fries in Veldhoven, do it here!

Nice place, but the fries were overcooked.

What bad by far the worst snack bar in Veldhoven. My son farmer's fries a hamburger and a hamburger from the fat a gahaktstaaf special with tomato ketup instead of curry, 35 euros. Fries satay sauce we do not have only war sigh then make war without onions and mayo, hamburger buns were maybe fresh a week ago but now really not anymore, half of the fries were still raw, the gehaktstaaf special no onions, my son a nail in his fries I threw my stuff away it is just a disgrace and that on a Tuesday never go here again bah how dirty and bad.

Had to wait 25 minutes for two snacks... Which ended up being served drained in sauce (the meat was good from what I could taste). The tables were dirty, barely any space to go to the bathroom cus everyone was piling up at the cash register. I don't know why they decided on this layout but it doesn't do it well, eating there was uncomfortable to say the least. I won't be coming back here despite the fond memories I have from before the renovation.

Don't go here on Sunday!!! Waiting 55 minutes for 1 (in words one) large fries. After all the misery, we went to get a bag of oven fries from the adjacent AH! A poor old woman was in front of us. She had to wait 45 minutes for a hamburger. And there is not a single employee to speak to customers. This is a top-shelf mess.

When we get fries we always go to Smickel. Order and pay online, choose a time and go. They always meet the time you specify. They have a wide choice, but they especially fry the fries well. Not too soft but nice and crispy. The staff is very friendly. It is wise to order online because it can be quite busy.

Good food, place could use a makeover

A quiet moment on Friday afternoon; the order was taken quickly and I was soon brought a plate with belze mayo and a frikandel special. Well-cooked fries: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The belze mayo is really great! And the frikandel especially richly topped. The place looks clean despite a busy lunch hour just before I came in. There is a ball pit at the back of the store as well as a number of tables where you can sit. The toilets were also clean.

That's really incredible! 2.50 for a frikandel is ridiculous! And then pay for 4 others.

Since the owner is no longer in the kitchen, things have gone completely wrong. There are about 8 people in the kitchen, only 2 of whom are working and the rest are staring. Orders are made individually instead of preparing for upcoming orders during packing. The staff is nice.

Excellent cafeteria, large portions of fries. Ordered Belgian satay. Unfortunately it was served raw, the employee apologized and 2 new ones were served that were perfectly cooked

Very bad fries. Completely fried fries. It looked like they had been in the grease 3 times. Really not edible. Very disappointing. Croquette was completely limp, as if it had been removed from the fat for 5 minutes.

Well-done fries: one half is so hard that you can mix concrete with it, the other half is dark brown and can go in the trash.

Matig eten. Standaard friet en snacks zijn ok. Hamburger in combinatie met parmezaanse kaas vond ik niet lekker. Stoofvlees en saté erg matig waterig. Niet voor herhaling vatbaar. Portie hoeveelheid is goed, eerder veel. Friet is goed gebakken.

Top Cafeteria. Great food, Quick service.

Prima gegeten. Besteld via internet en op de opgegeven tijd opgehaald, goed systeem.

In een opwelling van:"Hey zin in een frikandel speciaal?" Zijn we hier beland. Frietje en reuze frikandellen besteld. En ik weet niet of het de aardappeloogst is, maar de friet was dus echt niet lekker. Verre van zelfs... Frikandel viel ook behoorlijk tegen. Smaakloos dik ding wat verzoop in de saus en uitjes. De opwelling werd helaas een teleurstelling.

Prachtige zaak met heerlijke spullen. Mooi zitten, snelle en vriendelijke bediening. Goede parkeergelegenheid voor de deur. Ook telefonische bestelling en mogelijk. Een aanrader dus.

Heerlijke friet en de snacks zijn ook erg lekker.

Snacks erg goed, friet vind ik persoonlijk minder, heel erg hard gebakken.

We bestellen hier wekelijks met ons werk. Wordt op tijd bezorgd, bestelling klopt vrijwel altijd en het eten is lekker.

Zeer gezellig ingerichte friettent. Eigenlijk meer een restaurant. In de zomer heerlijk schepijs en softijs.

Veel friet zaken in Veldhoven maar er zijn er maar een paar die echt lekker is. Dit is er een van.

Kwam voorheen elke maandag twee schotels halen. Altijd goed. Maar nu vind ik het erg slecht. Vandaag wederom. Klein portie shoarma maar aan één kant was deze hard en zwart, bieren schnitzel zaten misschien 8 champignons schijfjes bij en de friet was niet om over naar huis te schrijven. Hard en leek wel of deze vier keer was terug gegooid. Bij de bami zit net zoveel sla als een ander menu. Ik mis daar de aankleding als kroepoek bijv. Was de vorige keer ook maar wilde ze toch nog een kans geven. Nu rij ik om naar een ander want is toch ver weggezakt

Altijd vriendelijk. Extra handig: er is een app waarmee je online kan bestellen. Meeneemverpakking in papier ipv in plastic, top! Open op feestdagen, joepie! Slechts een beperkt aanbod vegetarische snacks, anders gaf ik zeker 5 sterren.

Niet duur en een fatsoenlijke portie

Prima restaria, keurige zaak. Zeer uitgebreide kaart. Wat duurder dan de gemiddelde snackbar, maar het is ook een wat luxere zaak.

Heerlijke friet. Ook rasfriet super lekker. Goede saté met heerlijke satésaus. Voor herhaling vatbaar.

Altijd prima geweest, maar man man man wat zijn jullie afgezakt zeg. Het is zo'n beetje iedere keer een ander probleem voortaan. Is het niet de friet die slap is, dan is het wel het ontbreken van een of meerdere snacks, of een bizar kleine hoeveelheid friet. Iedere week dezelfde bestelling, maar je weet helaas nooit zeker of je wel genoeg zult hebben. Erg jammer. en dan zou je denken: ''waarom bestel je dan niet meer?'' simpelweg om het feit dat werknemers niet precies lijken te weten wat een kleine friet en een grote friet inhoud.
