Incredible food, very affordable, and Cato is very nice

I've eaten here several times now (mostly to-go) and I'm absolutely in love! From the service on site... ...to the food itself... ...a complete package of satisfaction. We're usually greeted not just friendly, but warmly, and my dogs are given a biscuit with a smile on their faces. I swear by the yogurt chicken with bulgur... but even the things I would never have considered for myself (e.g., crab salad) have absolutely won me over. Regarding price, there's only one word: FAIR. I'd give it 6 stars if I could! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You'll see me again.

Very nice and cozy place. They have books and a few boardgames that I guess you can borrow while you are there. The staff was very friendly. The food was nice, nothing out of this world. But the price is very affordable. Very simple concept - you order a base (like rice, potatoes, bulgur, etc...) and a topping (many types of curries). There are several options, warm or cold, with meat or vegetarian. The curry I ordered was spicy, but perfect for my taste (I'm not so tolerant to spicy food) I recommend it if you're looking for a quick meal for a decent price and I will probably come back.

Best place in town for great, healthy food!

Delicious food and really good value and portion for what you pay. 9.95€ for the large portion and it could last you several meals. You choose two toppings and two bases, with a wide variety of options from Vegetarian to chicken options, mostly Indian or Sri Lankan options. I chose potatoes and couscous as bases and daily dahl and Sri Lankan vegetarian dish for topping. They were all delicious! The restaurant is very cute with a small seating area and nice decoration

I studied in Maastricht. Every time I visit, I eat at Cato Cato. Feels like being young again and a bit like coming home. I love it

Amazing! -Not for posh people- I ordered the big portion (€9.20) which allows you to choose 2 types of "base" + 2 types of main toppings. This portion is very big (around 1.5kg I could say) for 2 or 3 people. The dishes are stored in the fridges and warmed up. Are asian style and very creamy. A lot of flavour and ingredients. The space is limited and the decoration is very "multicultural" and non-ordinary. The disposable dish they serve must be taken away after consuming: there is no place for garbage inside. I ordered a portion of cake (not in the pictured) and it was dry: not recommended for €3; only take the meal! I used to come to eat 1 a week. They publish the daily menu in its owners' instagram page: "catobycato". Very cute.

You can get a lot for little here. The atmosphere is special, not really a restaurant, but if you want a good portion of comfort food to warm up at home, you've come to the right place.

Fair prices for basic but tasty food!

"travel around the world without ever leaving your table" if you see this writing come in! not only is the food delicious but here kindness and attention to the customer are an added value. the portions are generous and the flavors a real surprise. Let the owner advise you and you will return many times! Also recommended for families, if the place is full, it becomes excellent for takeaway and there is a park nearby for lunch on a bench. Very nice and particular place, the quantity because that's what we're talking about is really a lot and the price is low, therefore excellent.. The portions are very generous and delicious, I recommend if you take the larger one share it because it's really big, even the medium one is very filling otherwise enjoy the environment 🤗

I paid €8 for a medium (vegetarian meal) portion. It was very tasty and I couldn't finish it because it was too big for me. I could choose the side dish. There was a selection of potatoes, couscous, bulgur and so on. Young crowd (presumably students) and honest food, really flavorful. Even my dog ​​was given a cookie. Very nice people! I would go there again and again.

Muy lindo pequeño lugar con super concepto : elegir entre un montón de casa - hecho posibilidades de comida (también vegetariano y vegano) y combinar, precio súper barato para porciones enormes, pero ambiente estudiantil y también clientes y casi ningún lugar para sentarse (tuvimos suerte de que la única mesa para 4 era gratis) , comida no completamente caliente (calentado en microondas) y solo desechable cutterly (una pena cuando se come en el lugar) - sería perfecto un poco más confortable 👌

Nice good quality home-style food.

The food was very disappointing. My expectations for this place was cozy home cooked food. But right after I ordered the food was scooped out of the fridge and reheated by microwave. The food was also fridge level cold when served. This is ‘home cooked food’ by a student. The dishes tasted like meat mixed with a lot of random seasoning. While there were a lot of ‘flavor’ it just felt messy. And the medium sized bowl was 80% carbs and definitely not worth 8 euros

I‘ve been at Cato lots of times and the food never disappoints! There is always something new to try and I don’t think I’ve had anything I didn’t like yet! The service is also soo friendly and helpful and just in general the vibe here is cozy:)

As I walked through the city, I was surprised to see a long line out the door. When I saw the reviews, I knew I had to try the food. I decided on take away food. The dishes here seem to change every day, inspired by countries all over the world. We had a curry with minced meat and noodles and chicken in sambal peanut sauce with jacket potatoes. It was so delicious! Absolutely wonderful homemade food at fair prices. We "only" had the medium portions, which was not manageable for one person. The service was very pleasant and friendly, something you don't often experience. Absolutely recommended 🫶🏻

Love this place! It’s uncomplicated and sells a very simple product. They offer 3 sizes of boxes and I must say the medium and the small probably isn’t worth it for the price, but the big box fed me for the next 3 meals I ate. If you’re a big fan of getting your moneys worth and you like to have a lot of protein and food definitely come here. Staff is friendly and based. Love that the restaurant is just complete chaos and looks like all the furniture is all over the place and was picked up off the street (probably not wouldn’t bring a girl here on the first date) but for students everyone should give this a try even if 9,20€ is pushing the budget for lunch. My only complaint was that even after being in the microwave for quite a while my box still had a couple of areas where the food was a little cold.

If you are hungry this is the place to go. Quantities are quite big and the flavours are bold. I really liked this place in it's simplicity. Their focus is more on takeout and you will see students coming here for an affordable meal. In my opinion one of those foodie gems, a bit sweet but decadent.

I work temporarily in Maastricht and because the overnight stays take place in hotels, cooking is very difficult. Fortunately, Cato exists, who creates world meals for a reasonable price. The food is great. the atmosphere is great and there is always a sincere chat! Highly recommended!

This might be my favorite place to eat or buy food, EVER. They have tons of options, all equally delicious and it’s ridiculously cheap. If I could eat here every single day of my life I would. The most friendly people too, this one guy grows a lot of the ingredients himself and cooks it every day himself. Amazing.

Cato by Cato has delicious food and a wide choice of ingredients. Almost everything can be mixed together, so you can put together a meal that suits you completely. Furthermore, it is very price-friendly, you can easily eat from the large box with 2 people. The people are super nice! The atmosphere is like a vintage diner and last but not least, the food is always delicious! You can pick it up or take a seat in the cozy, vintage thrift store vibe and then enjoy! Very student-friendly, useful if many people in a group have different preferences or allergies or something like that. Anyway, highly recommended :)

Such an amazing place! The food is really tasty and pretty cheap for Maastricht. There are always many options to choose from, both veg and non-veg. It's great that the meals are inspired by cuisines from all over the world. The staff is also super nice and friendly. The places itself is really cute and I loved the low-cost vibe, especially the use of cans as flower pots.

I tried Bulgar with sweet potato , lentils and spices. It tasted good. I took the medium option but wasn't able to finish it up. So , the small option would be fine for one person.

Affordable Delicious And good options!

As a student with limited lunch budget, Cato by Cato is our safe haven. It located near Maastricht Library (by walking distance) and it offers delicious-vegan/plant base cuisines with a cheaper price than the other resto in the area. The place is relative small so we usually take-away the food, but it has a unique-vintage style decoration.

Adresse découverte tout à fait par hasard en déambulant dans les rues de Maastricht. Ce que nous avons choisi de manger (poulet tandori pour moi et poulet avec une sauce aux cacahuètes pour mon ami, sur une base de riz) était absolument délicieux ! Nous avions choisi les portions moyennes et , franchement, c'était très copieux ! Une tasse d'un excellent Yogi Tea pour clôturer le repas. C'était parfait et rapport qualité / prix imbattable. De plus, accueil super sympa par le patron tout sourire. Une adresse sans chichi à retenir absolument !!! Nous y retournerons, c'est certain. Seul petit bémol : l'absence de toilettes

Good option for students looking for home food

As many have said, indeed a good place for a student to eat cheaply. The portion sizes are big, and considering that the medium one cost me 6.5, it’s well worth the price. The food is delicious, and there’s decent variety. There’s no wifi and very few places to sit, so it’s mainly a takeaway spot. Other than that, it’s very solid.

Vorige week werd ik door mijn eetgezelschap verrast met drie bakjes heerlijk eten van Cato by Cato. Elke maaltijd was verrassend lekker. We hadden een couscous/groente salade, een curry en een Mexicaans prutje (met appel). Jezus, wat was dat lekker allemaal. Zo smaakvol, voedzaam en gezond. Vooral het Mexicaanse bakje was mijn favoriet. En betaalbaar! In deze dure tijden kan je dat extra waarderen... Ik ben helemaal fan en denk dat ik hier wel vaker (per week) terug ga komen! :-)

Cato by Cato is mijn favoriete zaak om eten te halen in Maastricht. Sinds ik het ontdekte met een paar vriendinnen raad ik het aan iedereen aan en kom ik er regelmatig. Ze hebben veel vegetarische en een aantal veganistische opties. Het eten is super vers en enorm betaalbaar. Het is ook mogelijk om je eigen bakjes mee te nemen I.v.m. vermindering van afval. Je kan kiezen tussen bepaalde opties voor een basis en opties voor erop. Enorm studentvriendelijk dus. Ik kan dit echt aan iedereen die van eten houdt aanraden. Smaakvol en divers.
