Chinees restaurant De Draak in Amsterdamsewijk

Had dinner with friends last Saturday after the Christmas market. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the Tipan (cast iron platter). Very friendly staff. Lovely waitress. We will definitely be back.

A truly unique restaurant with friendly service and a pleasant, affordable rijsttafel (rice table). A lovely atmosphere, a typical Chinese-Indonesian restaurant, cultural heritage. Located across the Spaarne River, in a lesser-known part of Haarlem. +/+ Pleasant, fast, and welcoming service. +/+ Good stir-fried food. +/+ Real napkins. +/+ Perfect draft beer temperature. +/+ Very clean, well-appointed restrooms. -/- No aquarium.

Not recommended... tastes bad, stiff with binder. First and last time.

Nasi Goreng, roasted duck (it looks like there are bits of fried chicken underneath the duck), noodles, two wonton soups, mini spring rolls, and pangsit goreng (the latter two fried to a rather dark brown). The food could also have been a bit warmer. It's not that far to Haarlem Noord.

A Dutch-Chinese restaurant, don't expect authentic Chinese flavors... I ordered a Peking duck. I got a fried duck breast. Anyone who's ever had Peking duck knows it's not the same. But for the average Dutch person, it's probably fine. Unfortunately, I was really looking forward to the Peking duck...

What happened here?! Used to live in this neighborhood and always got their lean Babi Pangang and Koe Loe Kai. The sauce of the Koe Loe Kai is supposed to be red/orange, sweet/sour and have a light ginger flavor. Now it has turned into some brown, thin/thick chicken broth smelling and glassy looking sauce and this is just too rancid for words....yuck yuck! The so-called lean variant Babi Pangang is supposed to be well done so that you should have a delicious roasted flavor through the sauce. Now when I got home there was a limp crust on the Babi and the rest of the meat in between was almost half like snot if not fried, but with a dark, but also nothing/watery tasting sauce. The meat seemed to be cooked rather than fried on the inside. When I dissected the Babi, half of it was snotty meat, the other half was like the liposuction of the cook's belly fat??? Too bad this, should not/should not be possible. This Chinese (according to so-called Dutch standards) is now, in my opinion, the worst Chinese where I have ever gotten food in my life! We grew up with Indonesian cuisine, so we really know what we are talking about, how it should taste. If it is now only a rancid Chinese restaurant (so not a Chinese Indonesian restaurant), then please remove the Indonesian names from the menu! We do not want to be associated with this crap!

I found the nasi goreng bland and sticky. The chicken smelled burnt. The fue yong hai was completely flavorless. The egg was very overpowering. There was no meat at all. This is my second time. Unfortunately, I won't be ordering from here again.

Vandaag wilden we na een wandeling eten bij de Draak halen. Ruim een uur gewacht op ons eten. Was geen spannende bestelling dus dit duurde wel heeeeel erg lang. Een meneer voor ons was nog steeds niet aan de beurt. Achteraf waren ze zijn bon kwijt dus hij zat daar voor Jan met de korte achternaam. Maar wel betaald. De sfeer was in het begin nog lacherig maar die sloeg later toch om En in het restaurant zaten hooguit 10 mensen die ook al begonnen te klagen waar het eten bleef. Het eten was okee, niet bijzonder. Wij halen er niet meer. Klaar mee.

I placed an order at De Draak at 6.24 pm: the mini menu with rice, satay, bapi baping and Koe Lu Chicken. I also ordered Ha kau. It was delivered within 15 minutes. To my disappointment, the food was lukewarm upon arrival and the Koe Lu Chicken was very tough (old). The bapi pangang and the rice were also lukewarm. The rice was very sticky. It wasn't tasty. The ordered Ha Kau turned out to be 6 dim sum pieces without sauce. The bowl was broken. It looked like the food had been under a lamp for days. Very dirty! I will never order from here again. Restaurant does not respond to complaint emails.

Ooit een top restaurant onder de Chinezen. Nu een draak van een restaurant. Eten koud, kipballetjes verbrand, pangsit zwart, alles dreef in het vocht, zonder smaak, soep koud, bami besteld kreeg koude nasi, teruggegeven, nieuw bami schaaltje gekregen, echter die stond al ruim 15 minuten klaar op de toonbank dus: koud Zelfs de koffie en thee waren koud. Vroeger altijd kroepoek of cassave bij binnenkomst nu niets, Rijsttafel voor 4 personen is hooguit geschikt voor kleine eters. Veel te weinig. Parkeerkosten 10 Euro. Geen achtergrond muziek. Licht in toilet kapot. Kortom: Nooit Meer

It's like a Chinese restaurant should be, spring roll or Beijing duck, everything is tasty and a cozy atmosphere

Voor 19 kensen eten afgehaald vanwege verjaardag. Het meeste eten was wel prima, maar de kipsaté kon je geen saté noemen.... was gekookte kip zonder kruiden.

Ordered Babi ketjap with noodles. Noodles are fine and simple, but there is nothing extra, no meat, no fried egg on top. The meat was not tender and there were more vegetables in the container than meat. It is also not just a 'sweet' dish as I expected, but it has gone quite a bit with spices. This would be too spicy for my grandma! While you expect a sweet dish. When I order this from other places, there are no vegetables at all. I was disappointed and I won't order from here again.

Delivery was on time and the dishes were super tasty.

Vandaag een portie nasi goreng en een loempia afgehaald. Het was druk alom 17:30 uur en moest daarom ruim half uur wachten. De nasi was goed maar de loempia niet. Te lang gebakken waardoor zwarte uiteinden en daardoor ook het vet naar binnen gelopen waardoor de inhoud vermengd is met het frituurvet. Zo'n loempia had nooit verkocht mogen worden. Ook als het druk is moet er wellicht een tandje bijgeschakeld worden om de wachttijden te reduceren en kwaliteit te leveren.

I find the noodles. Very good ..best to do this Chinese but not the best in Haarlem, rating 7.but sufficient.

Love Cantonese Chinese food but totally different flavors. Dim sum was not tasty on the inside, seemed to have been left in the freezer too long, tasted like rotten. And much more expensive

Eten was koud, restaurant zo goed als leeg. Volgens personeel was het erg erg druk. Er waren 2 tafels bezet. ——————————-

Excellent food! The duck was cooked just right. The teriyaki chicken and the fried rice really had that made from scratch taste. All around fantastic dinner. We finished with jasmine tea on a cold cloudy day and it was perfect!

Bad! There were 6 bay leaves (of those large ones) with 1 bowl of rendang meat Indian rice table for 2. That bowl also only contained 1 flavor of beef. There were no eggs present, which is normally found in the gadogado. There were also no prawn crackers included. The bowl with nuts, cabbage and lichees was missing. Lost 50 euros for this nasty mess

I asked for noodles + foe yong hai for 1 person, I got enough for 2 days. I have now paid 18 euros. This is a bit of a scam.

Excellent experience! The restaurant exceeded all my expectations. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a stylish interior that immediately set a cozy tone. The service was friendly and attentive. The highlight of the evening, however, was the food: every bite was a flavor explosion, perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. Special compliments to the chef for the innovative menu choices.

Picked up €50 worth of food, never again. The satay sauce was extremely salty, the babi pangang was dry and the sauce was nothing to write home about. The tomato soup tastes very chemically and the tjaptjoy chicken tastes like water. Been a loyal customer for years but never had such bad food. If you call to report it, you will not be taken seriously and no leniency will be offered.

Food is good. Tried the Peking Duck, Szechuan Beef, and Prawn with Garlic. Service is good. Shop renovation is authentic for a Chinese restaurant.

I had it delivered again, normally perfect, but this time lukewarm, bland, and fewer shrimp than before. It says that they are among the best, but I think it's a shame that they are declining.

Very good restaurant! I have eaten here often, and also “real spring rolls” upon request! Nice and honest people who serve quality! Everything you order is perfect here, especially special requests are accommodated. If it is available, the lamb pieces with black pepper sauce are delicious. I've been here at least 30 times and will definitely keep coming back. I don't agree with most of the negative reviews, but it could be that it's too busy and the kitchen takes a little longer. The chef is a very good one and cannot break iron with his hands. Ate here years ago and the food was delicious. Now I decided to order again and waited 1.5 hours for my food babi pangang which did not taste like babi pangang and all sauces taste the same... the only thing that was tasty was the prawn crackers, it's a shame if you spend almost 40 euros like that.. You would think that you can't mess up much with a satay, but even that was boring and not special. If I had made it myself it would have been even better

Delicious food after some shopping. When we got home (Almelo 🫣) we discovered that we had left groceries there. They sent it to us without any problems. Super sweet.

Ordered an Indian rice table today, could not order more for 1 person. The answer was that the kitchen could no longer handle it. So (almost) required 2 people, but ordered. Bami pangang was no longer the same as usual, chicken was not really tasty. And we had to wait a very long time for our food even though it wasn't busy at all. The dragon is no longer what it used to be.

Keurig op tijd bezorgd. Goed warm. Maar niet lekker, sauzen leken allemaal op elkaar, zeer vlakke smaak.

Vroeger kwam ik 2x inde week ,het eten was veel lekkerder toen ,nu viel het me tegen laten we het daar op houden

Uitgesproken smaakmakers. Wel lekker maar net iets te veel saus. Eerlijkheid van product mag iets meer naar voren komen.

I was really impressed with the Singapore Noodles!!! Really authentic Cantonese Chinese food and the prawns were cooked perfectly. The portion sizes are also good. Service was great. We couldn't believe how quiet it was on a Friday evening as we were the only ones there, and we really couldn't figure out why because the food is incredible.

Cantonese family from Guangzhou, wife and husband migrated 30y ago. Husband was a 5star restaurant chef in China . The Peking Duck is v unique. and all dishes not too greasy and very authentic. Prices very reasonable and decor is wonderful. Highly recommended!

Eten was lekker maar jammer dat ik zo lang moest wachten voor dat er iemand kwam om het tweede drankje op te nemen

Tipan rijsttafel is heel goed, in t bijzonder ook de wantansoep!

Nice food and friendly staff. It is quite busy as they also accept take away orders, yet the service is relatively fast and responsive. All in all, good experience.

Heerlijk met mijn moeder gegeten. Hadden Chinese rijsttafel maar was echt genoeg voor 2 personen. Soepje vooraf en daarna kleine gefrituurde lekkernijen. En toen leuk opgediend alle andere lekkere gerechten. Was echt top

Do you know that the chef of this place once attended and won numerous Chinese cuisine competitions? This place is truly a hidden gem in that the chef does this with his full soul and passion. He is realizing the his dreams and who are we and where will we be if we are without dreams?

We had a lovely dinner here with friends and family. The food was amazing and the service great. Would definitely recommend if you’re in Haarlem. It’s a rather old fashioned restaurant but certainly a gem!

Wij hebben bij de Draak besteld en afgehaald. Door de enorme variatie van onze wensen duurde het langer dan aangegeven maar de bediening was erg vriendelijk en het wachten was geen straf. Het resultaat was het dubbel en dwars waard. Zeker een aanrader en wanneer we weer Chinees willen eten een adres om te onthouden.

Heerlijk gegeten bij De Draak in de Amsterdamstraat, Teriyaki met kip is genieten, top! Bediening is goed, lieve mensen, kip saté is tevens heerlijk Gr. Roy
